Smells like the interior of an Eastern Orthodox church.
If i hadn’t seen the scent pyramid i’d think its olibanum and amber! very nice scent, very classy!

A daring sweet amber scent. for an amateur nose it is overwhelming. complexity of this fragrance is stunning and if you are confident enough it works perfectly. not safe for blind buyers for sure, but get a sample. you might love it as I am so in love with it

Zegna’s Amber Gold is like discovering an ancient bottle of perfume from another era. As if all the notes had been blended in a way we don’t really make fragrances anymore. Amber Gold is all about elegance & refinement.
What this Amber brings on me in its opening is a strong dusty and darkish rose that will reveal some earthy undertones. Like none of the fresher elements found in roses were kept here. This dusty rose bathe in a sirupy melange of incense and lightly sweet resins, aromatic, delicately leathery and maybe… a tiny bit animalic? I do agree with the petroleum impression mentionned by NickZee and YYY Delilah, but on me it is there for a very brief moment in the opening. From then on, this melange will get darker, deeper and the overall feel will lean towards something a little dry which is unusual for an amber fragrance, but always beautifully mysterious and in such a sophisticated way. Think elegant tweed, vast wooden library, scholars, philosophy, music, litterature…
I love this Amber Gold and admire the nose who created it (?) for having call to mind this so powerful imagery of another era, but still relevant today.
Notes from Zegna’s website:
Bergamot, rose, geranium, saffron, incense, davana (sweet, fruity herb) & lavender
Base: ambranum, benzoin Siam, vetiver, ciste (labdanum), sandalwood, patchouli, castoreum & musk

Gasoliney – yes that’s it! Just had to reply when I saw that! It just so is, isn’t it. It’s a while since I wore this, and I wouldn’t venture to review it in fine detail at the present; but one characteristic of it that stood out every time I tried this thick heavy (IMO) fragrance is that association with petroleum spirit type substance. Actually, this would be an excellent ‘epitome’ for the ‘Epitome of Ambiguity’ thread, as it is strangely buoyant and transparent, despite the thick-heaviness.
A couple of others I’ve found with that ‘gassy’ amber are the Atelier Cologne amber fragrance, and also the Jeroboam one … can’t recall the exact name of either ([something] ‘amber’ or ‘ambré’ [something]).

Excellent and love it! Right up there with the likes of Davidoff Amber Blend!

An excellent fragrance with woody notes. Longevity isn’t great at all. However, this is still a masterpiece.
Overall 7.5 out 10

Opens with a very daring leathery/gasoline edge, which is refined, classical and scary all at the same time. In the middle it is a sublime dark Amber fragrance with nuances of rose, before settling down to an equally good sandalwood base. It only takes 45 minutes for the Sandalwood to make it’s presence known, and from thereon it makes a show of its interaction with the other notes for several engaging hours until it eventually stands alone. There’s lots of dimension and complexity to this fragrance, it’s decadent and intimidating.
Performance is excellent for me, 10 hours plus. The 100ml bottle is very generous for a fragrance this decadent, the quantity reinforces the luxurious nature of the fragrance inside.
I have previously owned and sold 6 Zegna Essenze fragrances, but this is far superior to their previous releases. I look forward to years of special occasions with my bottle.

Very nice woody (almost oudy) amber, better than the Kilian one (and 3x cheaper)!
