Description
Alien Oriental is the subcollection of the Alien line from Thierry Mugler, where each creation pays tribute to a precious raw ingredient and is inspired by the Orient. The collection is made for “passionate lovers of rare perfumes and refined, elegant, raw materials.” After the Alien Oud Majestueux edition with out from 2015, the collection expands with the new Alien Musc Mysterieux, inspired by musk.
Alien Musc Mysterieux represents “an invitation to travel on a journey that highlights and enhances musk, one of the noblest ingredients in perfumery.” The oriental – woody – musk composition is developed by Dominique Ropion so that it retains the signature notes of Alien, like samba jasmine and cashmere, adding white musk enhanced by sensual vanilla, together with a mixture of spices and saffron.
The new Alien talisman bottle is inspired by the luxury of white gold. The fragrance is available as a 90 ml Eau de Parfum. Alien Musc Mysterieux was launched in 2017.

There is not much to say. This is the original Alien with a lot of musc, sweet and woody, a little resinous, sharp as well. I think this is a unissex smell, I can see a man wearing this one too. Strong and long lasting. Different from the mainstream fragrances. I like it. Just wish it wasn’t SO sharp.

I managed to get this second hand for a pretty sweet song and it was a total blind buy, but I knew it would be special. It is – but. I’m a fan of the original, and this does have Alien at its heart. The musk brings an incense to the mix that smells strongly of oud to me, and a slight smoke, both of which I love, but are apparently completely in my imagination, as they aren’t listed as notes.
After the initial blast, it is very reminiscent of strong musky Arabic perfumes, which I also love.
The reason I was hesitant to buy was because saffron doesn’t love my skin. That, unfortunately for me, is definitely there, and on me, it is consistent, although it mellows. But it’s still there in my drydown.
(Having never smelled this or the oud version of Alien, I actually had to look up the batch code to make sure it wasn’t a knock-off – it is authentic, so I am a happy buyer, even if I don’t love it!).
Layering with OG Alien keeps the longevity for me, sweetens it, and chills the saffron. My husband calls it bug spray! But he does like the original – go figure. Will wear from time to time, but do prefer the original, as it’s sweeter and beachier. OG Alien to me is a classic winter or very hot summer perfume with its sweet jasmine and vanilla.
Would be interested to smell the oud version myself, just to compare to this.
I can’t say if you love Alien, you will also love Musc Mysterieux. Maybe it will be better in the colder months. Worth it to have in my collection at the price I paid, but definitely would try before buying at what seems to be the going rate.

I don’t find this and Oud Majestueux similar, I mean Definitly there is the slightest resemblance between them but nothing to point out at!!
I prefer alien Oud Majestueux though, it’s more unique and more sensual for me!

It is not very good but i don’t know why but it made me feel happy. It reminds me old lovely days, it smells like a happy home. In the opening it is very similar Alien but then it turns a saffrony way. I don’t buy again but i’m not regretful for this time.

I like this a lot more than oud majesty but probably not as much as the original alien.
Alien the original (well as produced circa 2017) smells great to me. I do understand what people mean by sharp, and if you don’t like that aspect Musk is much more “stodgy”. It smells thicker and bigger although the projection and the strength do not seem as strong to me as the original alien. The smell is a lot like the original alien with more prominent musk, which isn’t super washing powdery, and doesn’t add a huge amount to the smell but the feel of the perfume is significantly different.
I didn’t care much for Oud Alien. It felt like a cask finished whisky – an oud sheen, top note I guess, that hits you at first but hasn’t enough time or impact to really change the overall experience, no actual maturation, as after 30 minutes you are left with the original alien just less well defined.
If you like alien but would prefer a softer delivery I think Musc Mysterieux is well worth a go, if you already love alien I don’t think the changes of this flanker will benefit your experience much.

When I first tested it on a paper blotter I thought it’s as if alien essence absolue is been layered with body fantasies sexiest musk so it’s not worth buying but all positive reviews made me decide to order a sample.I must admit that I was sooo wrong.this is a masterpiece!
Alien is very famous and is a best seller but I don’t find it revolutionary as I always expect from mugler.when I think of angel and womanity(though I hate them),I come to the point that alien musc mysterieux was a better choice as main launch instead of original alien.this stuff is mysterious and dark.I can detect alien DNA in it but it’s not as sweet or screamy.there’s something bitter, dark, dry and dirty in a sexy way going on beneath creamy jasmine.
When I dab it on my skin, spices or vanilla aren’t the first thing that comes to my mind.I think of jasmine and a warm and special kind of musk,as if it’s a musky leather note somewhere.I can really smell leather here and a smokey undertone.this isn’t my usual type of favorites but it’s addictive and makes me want to smell it more and more.it was strange for me to hear that my husband also loves it.he usually likes purely feminine fragrances on me and there’s a slight unisex vibe going on here.there’s something unique and magical here that most perfumes lack these days.
I can’t comment on it’s sillage before being able to actually spray it but longevity seems to be good considering that I can dab less than a drop each time.
It’s very expensive and difficult to find here and I’ve been on a terrible aconomic situation lately but I want a bottle as soon as I can afford
By the way I hated the oudy version and I don’t find them similar

Dirty, thick and dark, especially in this dégradé bottle which reminds of obscure atmosphere of churches and temples. Nowadays the best scents are not major launches but flankers because with them perfume houses can afford themselves to be inventive, provocative and experimental. This Alien smells like Gabrielle could smell if it was really referred to Chanel’s name, not a Chanel’s marketing research. Jasmine is prominent and the spiced musk makes a remarkable intrusion into the floral core of Alien. Balanced, bold and beautiful creation.

I really like this. It lacks the super sweetness of Alien but you can tell it has the DNA. I like it more than the Oud one I tested. I’m glad I splurged and I would say a safe blind if you like Alien and smokey vanilla. I can certainly pick up a powdery musk. It’s definitely smoked and the dry down is a soft smokier musk with a hint of Alien. Certainly similar in terms of smokieness found in Tobacco Vanille by Tom Ford. I love it.
Update: my second day testing. Very nice. Certainly the smokiness of Spiritueuse Double Vanille and Tobacco Vanille. It’s almost like Alien blanketed by Tobacco Vanille drowning out the sharp sweetness that sometimes makes Alien too much for some. Don’t get me wrong, I like Alien, especially after the first hour. I recently had a guy come up to me in the grocery store loving it. I don’t see this one garnering the same reaction as it lacks the projection of its Alien. It’s still strong but not as much as Alien. More of a neck nuzzled.
Second update. I don’t like what I consider the lack of longevity. I don’t see this as a top five. Even reformulated Coco lasts 2x as this. I have higher expectations for a perfume that costs over $150. Which sucks. I was hoping for a big, long musky jasmine vanilla musk base. Because the musk is nice.
I’d recommend layering Alien and then a smokey musk to get an idea of it. I’m don’t hate it and glad I have it. Just wanted it to be more.
I’m going to further test this with Alien and a layer and wear this on the other side and will update for the comparison. Maybe I just got olfactory fatigue.

This was another disappointment for me. Gave it away to a friend. I found it unbalanced. The notes imo don’t compliment each other.

Testing from a decanted sample, sprayed only once to the back of my hand.
On first spraying, this is quite unmistakably Alien DNA, with a very strong blast of spices, reminding me of Oud Majestueux.
Within ten minutes though, those spicy top notes have largely worn off, leaving behind a beautiful, creamy and musky jasmine underpinned by gentle woods. I think the creaminess probably comes from vanilla – this is most definitely not a gourmand or sweet vanilla. I detest the ubiquitous “laundry” type musks which find their way into a lot of perfumes. Thankfully that nasty cheap smell is not present – not that I really expected it to have crept into a Mugler creation.
I do not agree with the priority voting of notes on here – neither vanilla nor musk are the most prominent notes to my nose; jasmine is the strongest, as it is in all the iterations of Alien I have tested. I own FB of the original, Oud Majestueux, Essence Absolue, Liqueur and Eau Extraordinaire (and I love them all).
This is “softer” than Alien and may well be an excellent choice for people who find the original too much. Having only sprayed once, the sillage is moderate; normally I spray far more extravagantly, so would expect it to be at least heavy – if not enormous, when used “normally” (for me, anyway!).
I’ll edit this for longevity in a few days once I’ve given it a proper wear. For what it’s worth though, the single spray to the back of my hand is still very clearly present four hours later, so I would predict longevity to be very good, particularly on clothing.
Is it worth buying a bottle if you already have Alien or Alien Oud Majestueux? Well… Probably not. Will I buy a bottle? YES!

Before anyone else gives lulu169 a thumbs up for her reviews, please read the comment below which I have just cut and pasted from the reviews on her profile. This was on the Valentino Uomo Acqua Valentino page, but has been deleted, probably because it was voted down.
“I just keep smiling when getting exactly those reaktions from angry members here :DDDD I do it, folks, Im the one who vote before even smelling the fragrances just for the fun of it. so what? :D”
I have nothing to add.

well this one is a precious gem! expensove, for sure, but it smells expensive as well. starts off with a blast of warm spices mixed with vanilla and safron and and quickly develops into a slightly musky woody composition with soft jasmin-tea notes. good for winter for sure but i would dare wearing is at spring time as well. the bottle Looks precious on my vanity as well, like a juwel. geogeous!
Failakalaagog – :
When I see it in stores this spring I will sniff it for sure. I love TM line: all of them!
Last november I had the chance to smell the Oud one, what a gem, but the price of Euro 125,- was too high at that moment. But it was so nice.
I love to smell this new one.

Positively lethal!!!!
The perfume AND the review before mine.
THUMBS UP!!!

Remarkable.
It’s not out yet, but someone has assessed its longevity as “poor” – surely a first for ANY Thierry Mugler fragrance, let alone Alien?
And that’s aside from the apparently wild variations in sillage…
Thank you to the five people who have already voted to let us know whether they love/like/dislike this fragrance and when it is best worn (spring daytime is currently favourite, although it is also best worn in summer, winter and autumn and at night. Apparently).
It’s such a shame the contributors didn’t trouble themselves to leave a review, given their extensive testing of this new fragrance, for which reason I’ll take their recommendations with a shovel of salt.
ETA. This is not even showing on the Thierry Mugler website yet… I know, because I searched for it. (Thursday 16 February 2017)
