Description
Before fairy tales were found in literary form, the first fairy tales were handed down by way of the art of storytelling. A fairy tale is a short story usually meant for children and may contain the universal themes of love, obedience and kindness. Typically, the characters found in fairy tales are humans with special abilities, talking animals, poisoned apples, wicked stepmothers, fairy godmothers, dwarves, ogres, elves and other magical helpers.
Fairy tales are either original works from authors such as Hans Christian Anderson, Wilhelm Hauff and Oscar Wilde, or ancient folk tales such as the Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Cinderella which were passed down orally and subsequently romanticized and rewritten for children.
Within the fascinating world of fairy tales, a pumpkin becomes a carriage, a princess wakes up after a hundred years of sleep, a kind fairy godmother helps a poor little girl and a maiden who was as large as a thumb. We are enthralled by the belief of bizarre and wondrous things will happen to anyone with a good heart and we look forward to a happy ending also known as the “fairy tale ending”.
Without fairy tales, we would not have childlike naiveté and imagination. The strange but likeable protagonists and “fairy tale endings” depicted in fairy tales encourage us to muster our determination and strength to pursue the happy endings that we yearn to have. A World Of Fairytales 童话世界 was launched in 2014.
