Yes,I can see where it smells a bit of inside of ships’ wood, plus a sort of body-scent vanilla that I’m loving less, but that burns off and leaves a lovely woody vanilla. Nice, but not exceptional.

I was very curious. Unfortunately it’s identical to the sort of amber musk oil you can buy comparatively cheaply at Whole Foods and other natural grocers. One dimensional and common.

i get a strong vibe of pencil shavings in the opening. pencil shavings on a pirate ship carrying large amounts of contraband madagascar vanilla back to britain.
i think this would be perfect for an anachronistic scholar with a dark sensibility. to me it echoes the final number n ine collection ‘a closed feeling’.
lovely and nostalgic. i would love to wear this when i’m in the right mood, but couldn’t see myself shelling out for a full bottle with the price tag it carries like an albatross.
(in sweden we have a term called “little-old” for a young person behaving or dressing well over their age. i can see this one being embraced by the post-harry potter yung uns into vintage fashion. in a scentrocentric parallel universe that is)

I like 7 Billion Hearts, but I don’t love it. On me, it is almost all resins all the time, which is fine, but I don’t find this interpretation particularly distinctive or interesting.
On application I get a fleeting blast of dry lovely vanilla that I wish would hang around, along with some smoke and a hint of pickle. Almost immediately the vanilla vanishes and I’m left with all dry woods and incense for the rest of the ride. It’s pleasant enough but I don’t get a lot of depth or complexity. Towards the end the resins go powdery on me, which again isn’t unpleasant but it isn’t exactly thrilling either.
I have the EDP version. Perhaps I would get better results with the absolute, but I’m not inclined to try it. For my skin chemistry, there are better options when I want a dry vanilla and/or resinous scent.

One of the first few entries of CB I Hate Perfumes, and one of the more popular, 7 Billion Hearts is a vanilla, woody, slightly spicy scent that is very agreeable in that it is not overwhelmingly any one of those descriptors but rather a pleasant cold-weather blend. It’s not especially a gourmand in that it’s not the often-criticized cake-like vanilla but rather a more subtle vanilla that’s well-blended with the other elements.
It’s a very pleasant scent and clearly well-crafted with consideration and patience, but my main concern would be performance, which isn’t tremendous. To clarify, I tried the EDP (water perfume), not the perfume absolute, and the EDP is priced at $135 for 30ml or $260 for 100ml (on the higher end of the CB I Hate Perfume line), so largely the question comes to how much you love it.
7 out of 10

Opening: Home Depot, flooring section..
Heart: Inside the not so hot Sweedish Sauna
Finish: Smoky pine tress.
7 billion lumberjacks would have been an appropriate name IMO.

Intoxicating scent, was a must buy for me. It is very much old wood, tar pitch, and the sea. This is what the inside of old ships smell like at the Mystic Seaport. For everyone else outside New England who is having a tough time placing this childhood scent, i’m pretty sure this is exactly what “Lincoln Logs” smelled like.

This is indeed a vanilla perfume, but it isn’t at all the sweet, confection-like vanilla that young women have been slathering themselves with since that Victoria’s Secret fragrance whose name I always forget popularized smelling like cake a few years back. This is a dirty, earthy vanilla, with a patchouli-like rankness, smoky, reminiscent of a firewood fire in the sauna, and dirt tinged with alcohol or shellac, like a messy outdoor project.
A softer vanilla comes through in the dry down, but 7 Billion Hearts retains its breath of grubby humanity to the end.

God, this is beautiful. There’s a woody note that strongly reminds me of something from my childhood, but for the life of me I can’t identify what. It must be a happy memory though, because wearing this makes me feel warm, safe and peaceful.
I see this as more amber and resins than vanilla, although the vanilla is there – and it’s not gourmand at all, it’s dark and raw.
The amber is just amazing. It’s soft and pure, there’s none of that chemical-y type of scent that often comes with amber scents.
It’s warm, smoky, woody, mysterious and has so much depth. You can smell the quality.
Excellent longevity, soft/moderate sillage.

This is the most refined amber I’ve ever smelled in my life, but there isn’t a ton of vanilla, whatever it says. Also the first time an employee at Scent Bar told me not to buy something because it was overpriced for what it is.

I love every minute of wearing this perfume. The smoke is exquisite. The vanilla is black. This isn’t a dessert, it’s an event, and it will last all night. The smell is both comforting and challenging. Not challenging in the way people describe an acquired taste, but challenging in that the smoke and vanilla continues to change shades as time goes by, and it demands that I keep trying to describe it. Physically it’s not a very loud fragrance, but it demands a strong emotional response. It’s like trying to ignore a very small flame flickering in front of your eyes, it’s hypnotic but small.
ZooLoo – :
This perfume haunts me in the best way possible. The opening is heavy with smoke and wonderfully dark vanilla, with a slightly medicinal vibe. As it settles into the skin it warms itself and the medicine fades away leaving a gentle, spicy, woody, smokey vanilla. I read a description once, of someone saying that it smelled like something that had been unearthed from a wooden treasure chest after hundreds of years… that about sums it up, assuming that chest was full of the highest quality Madagascar vanilla.
Projection is gentle, but persistent, reminding me how darn good I smell all day without suffocating anyone else. If I could bathe in this stuff, I would.
To my complete and utter dismay, I turned out to be extremely allergic to this perfume. After a few wears I started breaking out in a horribly itchy rash that lasted for weeks… So devastated. But I love this perfume so much that I refused to abandon it, instead buying a diffuser necklace and wearing it in a pendant around my neck. This masterpiece needs skin in order to really shine and divulge all its beauty, but I’ll take what I can get. This one is too good to give up on.
Edit: Forgot to mention this is for the absolut, haven’t tried the water-based.

I have the perfume absolute, not the water perfume, and I love it. It’s such a rich scent and I like wearing it on days when I might need a bit of aromatherapy. The water perfume is expensive, but I think I only paid around $30 for a little vial of the absolute, which has lasted a very long time. If you like the smell of pure vanilla, I don’t think you’ll find one that’s better.
raindrop74 – :
I like sultry and unique scents and 7 Billion falls easily into this category. This is not vanilla/amber/resins/smoke for beginners at all. The opening is strongly vanilla and amber accords. As it settles and dries down it is such a lovely intoxicating thing!
I adore this scent somehow, even though it isn’t typical of what I generally go for. I can’t quit sniffing my wrists. On my skin, the smoke tempers the sweetness.
I think CB is a genius perfumer, and what he creates is like great art.
