Description

41 Burlington Arcade named after the new address of the shop in London is a dark aromatic fragrance with prominent licorice note, belonging to The Emblematic Collection.

“Named and dedicated to the new flagship at 41 Burlington Arcade, itself a contemporary paean to English refinement, the fragrance is the latest member of the historic Emblematic Collection.

Centred around Liquorice and the revelation of its sensual charms, darkly bittersweet and earthy tones have been sublimated with vivid notes of pink pepper from Reunion Island, West Indian Bay leaf from Dominica and Indonesian Patchouli. Floral transparent notes have been dialed up to deliver freshness and vivacity.

The fragrance’s daring individuality and unisex appeal perfectly encapsulates the eclectic spirit of today’s Mayfair. Created by Julie Pluchet who grew up in the bucolic French countryside, it brings a contemporary vision of perfumery driven by an innate intrigue of new olfactive territories” – the note from the brand.

Top notes: lemon, grapefruit, white pepper, citrus fusion, transparent flowers
Heart: licorice, cardamom, nutmeg, pimento
Base: vetiver, cedar, amber, musk, smoke fusion

41 Burlington Arcade will be available as a 100 ml Eau de Parfum. The release is limited to just 1799 bottles.

41 Burlington Arcade was launched in 2017.

To my nose, this is the big brother of Opus 1870. Quite similar, but 41 BA has more depth, its projection is soft and it doesn’t really last that long, considering the retail price. The pepper falls away after an hour or so and so ends the similarity to Opus 1870. The licorice is very faint and I don’t really get any smoke which is a shame, I’ve only had one wearing so maybe a bit early to judge. It is supposed to be unisex and I think it leans more masculine, I’ve no doubt there are ladies out there who will wear this, no problems. I managed to get it half price and I suppose I’m glad I’ve got it, as it’s a limited edition and I’m a collector.
I’m a bit disappointed in the packaging, it’s not like the pictures above, with doors on the front. It’s just a slide in/out box, a bit cheap considering the price. For a limited edition this could have been a real statement, but I think it just falls short. Unless you’re a collector or have got money to burn, I think there are better options out there for the money.
    Update on the packaging issue:
Just in case this might help someone out there.
I contacted Atkinsons and they advised me that there are two versions. The limited edition, with the fancy packaging, which was released last year. This retails for £180. Apparently, the fragrance was a success so they relaunched it this year in Atkinsons standard packaging, it is part of the Emblematic Collection and retails for £130.

Wowza!!! This stuff is pretty special right here. Atkinsons are brand which I’ve admired from afar for some time but never committed to purchasing…until now that is and 41 Burlington arcade is the fragrance to tip me over the edge. I’ve very nearly bought Old bond street triple in the past and then haven’t for whatever reason but that’s a decent, masculine freshie. I’d say this shares the same kind of fresh, citrus/musk attitude and is incredibly invigorating with one key kicker which is present right from the outset and that’s pepper. This stuff is a pepper bomb, in a good way the notes are so complimentary from the sharp bitter grapefruit opening, to the wet flint spark, earthy vetiver and peppery liquorice accord of the main body of this fragrance. It is straight up impressive and does put me in mind of Clive Christian V (I think it’s V…the pepper one anyway) and of course in the designer realm the now discontinued and sort after Marc Jacobs BANG! such is the peppery dominance of this creation. Somehow 41 Burlington manages to be simultaneously more classy and more down to earth and masculine than either of those. A perfect combination of things coming together, I like the brand, I like the notes and execution of the fragrance and I like the fact that it is masculine, without being inaccessible to the female crowd but in my opinion, it’s not exactly unisex. I like the unique nature of it too and a prime example of how to make a fragrance subtly smoky but show restraint. It’s really good basically. The performance was hard to asses from the first wear but it’s no monster and maybe you’d expect that from the price etc…but even if it’s poor I will let it have a pass because I really enjoyed it. My girlfriend complimented it and from distance too as the projection and silage was massive to begin with before dying down. Fresh but woody and extremely spicy, it’s a dream this one, I love it and will probably buy it.
