212 Vip Black was released in mid-2017, during the European summer season. Looking from this side, it is practically impossible to understand the moment of its launch, when we know the fragrance. But we have to remember that cold seasons are much stricter abroad than in Brazil and it is in the hottest times that the best parties take place in roofs of large buildings or in open places. And 212 Vip Black is a fragrance designed for night use not only in theory but also in practice.
Carolina Herrera’s VIP universe began in 2010 with the female version, followed by the male fragrance, in 2011. After them, several versions – including limited editions – were released and achieved great sales success, as the brand always brings fragrances that count good stories and carry popular appeal, arousing the desire of the public.
212 Vip Black has opened a new chapter within this parties with lists full of selected guests, through a fragrance in concentration Eau de Parfum (the first of the line made for men) created by Anne Flipo and Carlos Benaim, great names in the industry. In order to achieve a sensual cocktail with nuances of amber and absinthe, besides layers of lavender and leather, notes of absinthe, anise, and fennel were put together at the top. Then, lavender (in the heart) and notes of musk and black vanilla husk, in the base.
On the skin, its behavior deserves one of those titles of “Champion of the club/dancefloor” or something of the type. 212 Vip Black has an output totally based on nuances of anise since the notes of absinthe and fennel also carry many facets of this one. And the anise, in turn, tends to have a slightly aromatic side, in contrast to its other side, that is sweet like licorice.
Honestly, the lavender did not make any difference during evolution. In contrast, the base sweetened by vanilla is present from the beginning, remaining throughout the evolution.
In terms of similarities, I don’t see any resemblance with the fragrance of Pure XS (Paco Rabanne). In particular, I think the latter belongs to a completely different category, in which myrrh is vivid. But this is subject for another review!
As I touched the point, I’ll give my opinion: for me, it is a mix of Polo Red Intense with Ultra Male (mainly, as soon as sprayed), with excellent projection and good durability, but almost no evolution.
Is it very different because it is an EDP? No. The other fragrances of the 212 VIP universe always functioned in a similar way and they were made in Eau de Toilette concentration.
To finish, it is worth emphasizing that the campaign had the photographic eye of Mario Testino and brought a young man as the main face, which deserves all the applause for it fits with the target audience of this perfume. And the bottle is identical to the 212 Vip Men Club Edition version, now in black color.

Such a generic sweet scent. It’s nice but there is nothing special about this. Average performance at best. I love anise and I don’t get much in this. It’s more like a sugary-candy smell that slightly resembles anise. Was really hoping for more from this fragrance. An avoid for now, especially at the current prices. But if this was a bargain bin price, like $30 or less, it could be worth picking up because it is a nice, sweet, croud-pleasing smell.

Uhm, quite honestly I expected much more from this one. The opening is very soft gentle kind of a scent with delicate absinth – not an alcohol punch in the face. But that’s pretty much it.
Luckily the drydown is way better with tender vanilla – not sickly sweet, mixed with lavender and anise. Slightly sweet yet still fresh scent.
But all I can say is – well, yeah, why not, smells kinda nice but nothing special I would remember. In fact I get a sort of Adidas shower gel impression from this. They also usually smell nice, but to my nose I would be searching for much more than Adidas smell in a perfume world.

It’s too Pure XS by Paco Rabanne (or Pure XS is like this one), but a little bit more strong (I prefer Pure XS, more sweet).

I got this some weeks ago, using it in some casual occasions in cold weather. I am not sure if I have one of the first batches, but since the fragrance only released in late August / early September, so I assume yes. My batch code (72051) date is July 2017.
So my impressions on this are positive. I can conclude that the vanilla note is very dominant and I am sure you will also smell the vanilla note as long as the fragrance lasts. At the beggining it gives me a sense of freshness, I don’t know for sure why, but very probably due to the lavender. You can also sense a light alcoholic vibe maybe due to the absynthe note too. But in general I sense the frangrance is vanilla based and it has a sweet vibe all the way from the beggining to the end.
To my experience, the fragrance is not a projection/sillage monster. Otherwise, it becomes somewhat of a skin scent after the seconf or second and a half hour. But don’t get yourself to conclusions this soon because the fragrance still lasts at least like 9h on skin. In one particular long use situation I went through I could still smell the fragrance without any effort after ~9h of application.
This perfume does not have Ultra Male specs (regarding projection or sillage) but it is also not one of those fragrances that disapears completely after 1h of application. I believe that this is one of those fragrances that can be used in any casual setting because the the scent is pleasant and easily likable, so in my perspective the young crowd party setting in the promotional ads can be ignored.
Oh, one important thing. Don’t be fooled by smelling this on paper because I could sense that smelling this fragrance on paper gives more a sense of freshness than what it actualy have on skin.

It’s more flanker to the last year 212 vip wild party. It’s kinda mix of wild party, less violet and less mango with absinthe added, and pure xs. You can find this synthetic fruity accord in the new CK obsessed too.
As judging the scent by its on, all the absinthe and anise in the opening is very nice but it still smells generic and unoriginal. In the middle it’s very harsh and synthetic in bad way, same as wild party.. and dry down is tone down middle notes. Somewhere it reminds gentlemen only absolute.. But mostly the dry down is very similar to the last year ‘wild’ edition. There is cleare tendency with this synthetic accord that is spreading in the market. Personally I don’t like it.

This is an aromatic soft spicy scent. The combination of its elements give me different impressions every time I wear it. Sometimes I get a bit of freshness similar to mint. Other times, specially by night, I feel it sweet, but not necessarily vanilla, as it is declared as one of the notes above. Other times I feel it a little harsh or boozy, specially at the beginning.
I think it has a nice longevity and it sticks into your skin for a long time. While the fragrance is drying down on your skin, definitely it gets better. Even though I have never heard of a absinthe as a note in perfumery, I don’t find this perfume specially innovative. For instances it remind me of different scents I have smelt before: Versace Eros, Chanel Allure Sport Eau Extreme among others, but somehow, I find this fragrance still stands out on its own terms and character. I’m enjoy it every time I wear it.

Just tried this fragrance at Sephora, so this is just my first impressions.
From the top, I have to say that it’s solid release by Carolina Herrera. Starting with the presentation: heavy and thick glass with that dark colour fading trough the bottle and the cap is magnetic. Well done!
About the scent: is 1 Million Privé with a boozy note. Nothing groundbreaking at all, but it will earn some followers. Even myself, I might get a bottle in the online discounters.

It’s already 2:00 am and I sniffed the paper tester again and the drydown is very similiar to… Ultra Male! Wow! This was totally unexpected! I’m already seeing this fragrance being at those “Top 5” or “Top 10” club bangers list for the fall/winter 2017.
And, quite honestly, it deserves some “club hype”.

Its a mix of already known hit market perfumes. Its not a bad scent but nothing good enough to worth a love. It has an Lolita Lempicka Au masculin vibe at the beginning with some absinthe. Then the absinth disapears and it turns to a mix of that sweet gourmandish fragrance that we all already know.

All I can say is that they know what they’re doing, Anise and fennel mix wonderfully together, they have similarities the way their oils smell.. both of are sweet more than spicy, plus I don’t think that this mix will resemble anything else, because this mix is not prevalent nor familiar.. just my opinion.
