I’m M/32. This one brings my thoughts to an 80’s powerhouse. Oh wait’ it is! Just not last centuries 80’s. I can’t get my head around the smell, but it’s very sharp, appalling and will really make you stand out – in a bad way. It’s somehting a dark witch would wear, fiery, spicy, loud. It’s a Femme Fatale, dominant woman type of perfume, not for girls but rather 45+ on the hunt and aiming to choke every person who gets near with the smell. If you like these kind of perfumes you’ll probably love this one though.
Not that I’d think anyone with a “normal” budget would be willing to blind buy a Xerjoff, I still have to say – TRY before buy. Also; the juice leaves pink stains.
If you’re looking for similar perfumes with even more bite, you need to try on Memo – Tiger’s nest and African Leather, they both smell of tiger balm and bug repellant, but if you like this Xerjoff chances are you will like those as well.
And lastly – Guys, and women under 40, please don’t wear this.

Details matter when you are the best at what you do. If you have not tried the house of Xerjoff, then your knowledge of perfume perfection might still be lacking some details. This house really embodied the expression “beautiful inside out;” they never settle for less.
1888 Casamorati is a fragrance so beautiful you’ll want to sniff it every second. It’s prominent notes are Amber, Carnation, and Sandalwood. Also, there are notes of Ylang-Ylang , Coriander, Pepper, Rose, and Saffron in small doses. A fragrance with excellent transitions; the combination of Amber and Carnation here is breath taking with Sandalwood balancing the sweetness nicely. The spices are not overwhelming, everything is just right. Signature worthy but I will wear this more in a semi-formal setting. Although you can pull it off anytime, any place, anywhere with more than 8 hours longevity. This is a perfect fragrance in my humble opinion.

I have to say this , this is probably, scratch that, DefinitelY , the most beautiful fragrance in the entire F world , words cannot describe how good this smells ,damn.

Fantastic. Actually, my husband wears it and I love it every time when he emerges carryng this cloud of sweet tobacco scented with slightly rotting roses and all sorts of violets, gardenias and peonias somewhere in the background. (I see no tobacco is mentioned in the composition part, but for me this perfume evokes before anything else fine, pleasant, deep tone of tobacco, more on the cigar side. He is a smoker, perhaps somehow 1888 blends with his acquired tobacco odour, which is not perceptible without Xerjoff perfume). Anyhow, no trace of cologne or usual sports-guy imposing smell here. Only deep register of full, rounded, complex, saturated olfactory feast. Drawbacks: price. Also, after year and a half it loses on intensity and complexity, like it is falling apart slowly. This could be the case, since I have feeling it is composed with essential oils, derived from real plants. Observed the similar phenomenon on some anonymous egyptian perfumes (not bought on the street), which smelled similarly irresistible in a totally non modern way, but started to fall apart after few years.

Cherries and cinnamon I can’t detect in this one, but I can smell it in Xerjoff Casamorati Bouquet Ideale. This one is like Amouage Opus III, made a little bit more masculine, so it is better for men.
JeeZy – :
Kurimu – :
am I the only one smelling cherries and cinnamon? coming here to read the notes I was very surprised to see it’s considered a floral fragrance… it reminds me of La petite robe noire, as I get whiffs of some kind of cherry drink/ cinnamon cake

I have been buying perfume since I turned 10 years old. I always wanted a perfume that smells like rich Indian incense before you burn it. When you open a box of incense, bring it to your nose and inhale deeply.
Xerjoff 1888 was my introduction to the house of Xerjoff and an opulent fragrance that smells like incense sticks.
Opulent, dramatic and so smooth.
I love it.

Absolutely delicious! I usually find unisex fragrances too masculine for me, but I feel very comfortable with this. It’s like a combination of root beer and the sexiest, spiciest gingerbread imaginable. It lifts my spirits. I can’t wait to try layering it with other fragrances. In the Casamorati line alone I think Bouquet Ideale and Lira might be good pairings for it.

A boozy floral arrangement reminiscent of a Spice Bomb. I’m not saying they smell alike, it’s just the first fragrance that popped to mind when initially wearing 1888. That carnation note is just on the edge of becoming a little too earthy and cloying but it stays right there. A few people mentioned this as a great versatile type fragrance that can be worn casually but I’m gonna disagree there. It just smells way too different. I wear this one when dressed up or when attending a more lavish type of event. And the sweetness lasts for an eternity. It dries down to a cocoa amber on my skin. Fantastic fragrance. And the heavy frosted bottle is killer. Like seriously you could murder someone 100 different ways with that thing lol.

This is how I wish all other florals would smell on me. Not even the carnation gets sharp and nasty. And the ylang, my other nemesis, just adds extra interest to the soft, cozy cloud (that’s not even too sweet). Very well done, and it still smells like a “regular ‘fume”, nothing strange or avant garde about it.

I get real pleasure when it’s dressed. Despite declarated strong notes as amber and sandalwood it is quite gentle aroma that elegantly wraps you up with a honey cocoon.
It is not sweet. It is strict and does not change in projection. It is brown velvet for Man.
serega59 – :
Wow, that’s all I can say about this one. Firstly, I’m a big fan of yellow florals so there’s no question this would appeal to me. This stuff almost smells like the most expensive confection you’ve ever eaten. It’s not a gourmand, but it almost comes off that way to me at least. You feel like it might taste good to eat, but you know it won’t.
Once I get a little more experience with this one I’ll update, but I feel like this could be a top 5 or even 3 scent wise for me. It is that good.
rookeftferb – :
I was expecting something really powerful going by the comments on this page. There is a vague similarity with Queen Latifahs Queen but you can smell this is made with top quality materials. I thought I could smell something alcoholic in there. The amber, carnation and sandalwood create this wonderful warm cinnamon hot toddy (christmas drink) aroma. The ylang, neroli and black pepper add a bit of kick. For the life of me I cant detect any coriander. It becomes a skin scent in an hour which is a big disappointment as I really like it but it does hang around for a good few hours.
My like has turned into a love. It is quite addictive.
germagster – :
I read these reviews, headaches and bad smelling, then I see Aqua Di Parma and Frederic Malle in some of your fragrances….serious?
Pavabirmvag – :
“1888” is a dense, opaque block of peppery spice, heady yellow florals and dark sweet amber.
In the upper layer I mostly smell a pungent ylang paired with a hot, searing neroli. There is a dry pinch and a cinnamon-like sweetness surrounding the florals along with a brash, sharp sandalwood. In the base I find rich oily patchouli, smoky birch and dense, waxy vanilla.
The colour of the bottle is quite apt, I think. This smells scarlet red to me, a large and in charge scent that leaps off the skin and wafts for yards.
It has a dark feminine allure to it. I’m reminded of a more complex, less headache-inducing version of “Lust” by Lush. Way more textured, dark and dramatic, but the similarity is there.
Not sure a man could pull this off, but an assertive, libidinous female? Yes, definitely.

I own around 6 bottles of Xerjoff and tested lot of fragrance from Xerjoff line and one of biggest Criticism is that Xerjoff does very good clones/Inspiration of known frags ( Mefisto/SMW,Uden/Chanel AHSEE,Naxos/Pure Malt) and its a valid Criticism also IMO however when it comes to 1888 that criticism does not stand as I feel it is one of most Original and beautifull Creation from house of Xerjoff .
As I Spray this frag i smell Spices (Pepper,Coriander) with some Floral ( carnation i think) . Opening is little Fem however i think it can be worn by men also however this opening last for few minutes only and changes as Amber comes into picture which makes it more masculine IMO. Projection of it is very good throughout and its never gets too loud or too subtle either which IMO is just perfect projection .
As it starts to dry down i smell Amber,Sandalwood ,Birch with bit of pepper fighting for its existence .This turns into a very sophisticated fragrance which any man or woman above 30 can wear all round the year and any time of day which makes it one of the most versatile fragrance i have tried along with Aventus. This is so good that i regret the fact i did a split of the same and should have kept all the juice 🙂 . Longevity is around 8-10 Hours .
Projection : 9
Versatile : 10
