Description

After the two Zen versions, Zen is reborn in 2007 . This vibrant floral, with wood and spices, was designed by Michel Almairac. An opening of a zesty grapefruit note, sweet bergamot, orange, pineapple wrapped in blue rose. The heart features a generous floral bouquet made of freesia, gardenia, violet, lily-of-the-valley, Chinese rose, red apple and lotus blossom. The warm and sensual trail blends patchouli, cedar wood, musk and white musk, amber and frankincense.
The bottle is designed by Taisuke Kikuchi. Zen is available in 30ml, 50 ml and 100ml EDT bottles.

My bottle is the solid cylinder black. When I bought it a looooonnnnnggg time ago, was beautiful. Recently picked the same. It’s an Eau de Cologne. I am not informed of reformulations but it’s still smell dreamy. Not worn by a lot of people
Wore at night then and still wear at night.
It reminds me of Prescriptives’ Calyx, which I also own.
    is it a pineapple note?
I love Calyx for Summer and it’s strong. Zen is much softer
It does not remind me of Coco Mademoiselle at all. I own this also and my nose doesn’t pick up at all, at least tonight 🙂

I remember selecting this for my girlfriend at the time. It was amazing, charming, elegant scent and even though I didn’t know it was so similar to Chanel, now I know why I still keep getting the same smell (and remembering old times haha) in the street!
Shortly I think it’s very sexy and classy, go for it!

My sister has worn this for years, I think it’s a very lovely fragrance – it’s dense and pleasantly sweet

i was absolutely surprised of myself. it isn’t my style at all. I bought this fragrance for my daughter. one day my nose was caught by unrecognized scent. it was ZEN. I tried it on my wrist and slave.
    Finally, I love it.

    Somethigs wrong…??
I thought I was the only one that feels that this perfume is like a twin sister of Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel (mentioned by others too) and that something is wrong with my nose…
I imagined that Zen would be a more freshness perfume and that’s because of the name and the bottle.
I have never read that this perfume is “Floral Woody Musk” and I thought it would be something like DKNY To Go Women by Donna Karan.
    TRY IT before buying.
    Cheerioz…
    V
PS:My official sample is an EDP one.
I can assure you that my sample tube is an Official one and yellow – golden.
It has nothing alike with the mauve bottle of EDP that appears in the Fragrantica data.
    Confused…

Back when this gem came out I emptied several bottles, even bought the shower gel. A very special scent, not very common. But after a couple of years I wanted something else and said goodbye to zen. I do understand why some people think this smells like coco mademoiselle. But zen is, or better said, was a completely different perfume. Bought a bottle the other day, feeling like I could use some zen in my life again. Wow…..it has become so weak!!! It used to go on all day, was a perfume you could easily overspray. But now, spraying 15 times is fine and it is gone in a few hours… And now it does smell like coco mademoiselle, no strong mandarin orange (which unfortunately is what coco mademoiselle becomes on my skin) but overall pretty similar, just weaker. What a shame…. It does still last longer on clothes, but is has become a light summery scent, where it used to be the perfect warming scent for colder days. But oh well, it is what happens to all scents, apparently the mass doesn’t approve of strong perfumes which easily last 12 hours+ and could even be noticed in a bar filled with sigaret smoke anymore 😉 But if coco mademoiselle does not fit your skin chemistry and you like lighter scents, give zen a try because it still is special!

I’ve kind of hesitated to rain on this parade of positive reviews and ruin Almairac’s ZEN. I tested it several times and to me was just pineapple vinegar. Just that and nothing after. I was 100% convinced that I have a bad sample. Yesterday, I was sorting out my clothes on my rail and a pleasant smell, a patchouli a la coco mademoiselle hit me. I knew it was ZEN sample I tested on the collar of a shirt and today I gave it a new try, this time on my neck, on the skin and also did’t wear any other scented body lotion . I have also paid attention to it. And yes, this way I was able to feel it. it suits the reviews here. It’s a more easy to wear Coco, although Coco is something you just can’t miss and not recognize. This stuff is not fresh and clean like an aquatic fragrance. NO- I would almost say that stands together with a modern oak-moss overdose chypre. It’s mature but it doesn’t necessarily guide me to any Japanese garden, not to introspection or Asiatic culture, although is comfortable and easy to wear. However, the citrus note prevent me for going into a calming, peaceful mood. It’s for sure a safe office scent and could maybe work on yoga classes. For sure is not a fruity fragrance. Too bad is so ephemeral. I think you need at least 6 spritzes for a decent 8 hours longevity.

The perfume I applied to my wrist was light and ephemeral. It hardly lasted an hour. The opening was heavenly to my nose. I clearly remembered the scent of a white water lily – sweet and cool and immediately calming. I can see where the name ‘Zen’ stems from. However, the lily-part dissolved quite soon and gave way to simple, though inoffensive musk.

Ok, this is my story with this gem.I have never been “a one perfume” woman,I do not even have a signature perfume, even though at gun point, I might say “ETERNITY” 🙂 I wear perfumes according to the hour, the sky and the season. The morining, the evening, the afternoon. The New year perfumes cannot be “borrowed” post new year.. and so on. I have been aware of Zen for ages, but somehow it never spoke to me, I smelled it a couple of times but somehow it was always too “spacial”, a little like room perfume. That is until this June. On a rainy but warm afternoon I took a long walk to unwind from a day’s work. The walk took me across the bridge and all the way into the vicinity of a shopping centre just accross the river. Yes, it had been my intention to go exactly there. I had planned to buy a dress so I did that, I had coffee with myself and on my way out I stopped in Sephora. I didn’t really know what I was looking for except that I had a feeling that I needed something sober and adult, sth like Chanel but not quite that harsh. So, i spotted Zen. It was a moment like you lock your eyes with someone whom you have been overlooking for such a long time but now… there you are, and it’s a match.Even before I sprayed it on my wrist I knew I was looking for it. And then it hit me. The most pleasing warm, creamy, rainy scent ever. Now, listen carefully. How can an acquatic scent be creamy? But this one is. What’s more – it is warm. It flerts with all of these elements, it balances on the edge. No, I would never call this a girly perfume. This is a much more serious business, say, you are a teacher of literature at a city college and it’s exam session in June….perfect! It has the smell of books and wet hair, no it is not summery! It is on the verge of summer but quite there yet. It is a June and September fragrance and if possible, for humid weather. Wear it then and you will let it shine! And, read, people, read! 🙂

I get the comparison with Chance and Mademoiselle perfectly (both are better, by the way). Therefore…no originality.
The name doesn’t fit. At all. I get no calmness, no balance between notes, it isn’t meditation inspiring with all that chaotically mixed fruit with…everything.
It isn’t even relaxing. It is like a young girl putting too much make-up, too much jewelry and too much perfume trying to impress.
No flowers whatsoever… at least not on me. Headache inducing citrus-fruit-chouli.
It isn’t bad, but it is not the promised Zen, actually it is quite tiring..
I hope you enjoy it though as much more affordable copy for the Chanels, but it doesn’t last more than two hours.
The bottle? Again, just a brick, no Zen!
Maybe another name would inspire me to a positive description.

I am absolutely obsessed with this scent
    Underrated in my opinion.
Its a little like coco mademoiselle and chance but as others said its calmer.
Doesn’t have the soapiness, has juicier fruit and cedar that is so smooth and not too masculine.
The fruits aren’t too sour and the florals blend perfectly.
It smells rich and classy but not boring.
When i spray this i know i won’t be offending anyone and though i have only had this for a short time i have had many compliments, even someone comming in closer to sniff more.

On my skin I felt simmilarity with Coco Mademoiselle but calmer and freshier. I whish I could feel more citus on me, that would distinguished them more. It is zen of luxury, I really do like it. Longevity and sillage is also very good. The golden cube is cute, but a bit unpractical for a handbag. I thought I could recommend it as a safe blind buy, but reading others review, it looks that everyone have diffierent projection on their skin. For some there is a lot of citruse notes, and I feel almost none, for some is too masculine and on me it is pure feminine joy…Finally, the dry down is so nice and nothing like Coco M..Since I like it so much, and it as 3x cheaper than Mademoiselle, it is time to replace Coco for some time. I know they are not the same (and I appologize to all Medemoiselle lovers), but for me they have the same vibe.I can relocate the money difference to some other unexplored perfumes 🙂
Sillage is just about and longevity long lasting, I found test paper 4 days later in my pocket and it was still quite intense! 65$ for 100ml is bargin for this perfume.
I found it by accident, randomly trying, shame I never heard about it before!
    What a beauty!!!

I’m treating myself to wearing one of my favorite fragrances this evening. Anyone who doesn’t enjoy this frag must have been given a ruined bottle. It is a sparkling uplifting delightful absolutely heavenly fragrance. The notes sing in harmony. I adore it.

OK, so I heard SO many good things about this perfume. I get it, chicks, I get it, but honestly, I was all full of smiles when the shop attendant sprayed some. OH MY GOD, it was REPULSIVE! It’s probably popular with Channel users, it’s very masculine and cold, but the smell hit me in the face with a hammer. I’m hoping White Heat will be better. But then again, I am a fan of soft, sweet, fresh perfumes so perhaps I am just not part of the target group.
My advice: TRY IT FIRST, it is a very original perfume, especially for those with a taste for feminine perfumes.

This is such an UNDERRTED perfume!!! Is very unique and a bit mysterious in a good way. It smells zesty, floral, yet warm and seductive at the same time. Reminds me of shimmering, sparkling gold.
A little goes a long way!!
I would say a glam perfume ( not masculine at all like some have said, just dnt over do it).
    Scrumptious xoxo

On paper smells complex and intresting, while on my skin it’s very bitter, lineal, definitely a men’s colongne. I’m impressed by the huge difference.

After having read the reviews, I decided for a blind buy. And.. Well, it is not what I expected, and the fragrance does not make me zen at all. The opening is incredibly similar to Chanel’s Mademoiselle, indeed. Perhaps more advanced noses won’t agree, but for me it was pretty much the same smell and it is very common nowadays, a lot of women in my surrounding wear it. I could smell Zen for a very long time, probably around 6 hours and only then did it start drying down to something very powdery. It changed completely, it stopped smelling like the scent at the opening, and instead like totally different fragrance, which baffled me a lot. It is sophisticated, I must admit, but not sexy, pleasant I would say. I would imagine a confident person to wear this.

I went test shopping for fragrance today. I tried Narcisso Rodriguez, Emporio Armani Lei, Burberry, Bottega Veneta. I was not swept away… then the Shiseido SA suggested I try Zen Fragance for Women. I nearly swooned with pure pleasure! Zen is like a grand surprise that keeps on unfolding. It’s delicate, elegant, personal, purely delightful! I’m in love! My new signature scent❤️ To me, it’s thrilling yet understated.

A very great interesting scent! Definitely worth attention.
To me, it smells like Stella in Two Peony mixed with Tous Touch with a piece of grapefruit and a piece of pineapple dropped into the mix.

The citrus scent is very predominant with soft middle and base notes. It is a nice perfume with moderate body and intensity, matching its “Zen” name. The longevity is very good and after a day it had a nice, round drydown.

Reminds me of something between the original and new formulation of Givenchy Ange ou Demon Le Secret. Bright, faintly sparkling, somehow both sunny and watery sheer at the same time.

Go get you some! What a stunningly gorgeous combination of grapefruit, pineapple and amber. So versatile for any season, mood or occasion. When I’m feeling a bit down Zen uplifts me, when I’m feeling happy it just adds more sparkle to my day (or night). A unique fragrance for sure and others always compliment me on it.

  25. :

At first it is quite sharp citrus scent, but after a while it’s delicate floral. Then it vanishes, like base notes were not there. Not a bad scent, but not extraordinary either.

This perfume is the best I ever ever had in my life. Not only that it is wearable for day or night and it has very mysterious scent that develop into nice flowery but very very classy and catchy smell.
With my skin in just go very well and it smells forever. A lot of people compliments me.
As I thought I fell in love with Shiseido. I ordered Musaraki as I have heard a lot of compliments. Unfortunately, that one is very powdery, for my grandma…
If anyone could recommend me some good perfumes similar class like this one, message me!

I am Zen addicted. I have Zen, Zen Secret bloom, Zen Moon Essence. The only and the one is Zen, the classical. When the weather turns to hot, I start to wear Secret Bloom, which I feel more “creamy” (I guess because of Tonka beans) or Moon Essence, which is more fruity compared to classical Zen.
    Anyway I love all!

This is the ultimate all seasons scent for me. Nothing too loud or harsh, ideal for office or for a relaxing weekend with family. It is supposed to have loads of fruity notes, on me they are not that noticeable, I really would like to smell the apple as it would be a really great addition to the notes I can already sense on me when wearing it, it could be perfect, however it is not among my most beloved ones, I can still appreciate as a good choice for casual days.

Fragrance Review For Zen by Shiseido
    * The Reformulation
Top Notes: Grapefruit, bergamot, orange, pineapple rose.
Heart Notes: Freesia, gardenia, violet, lily-of-the-valley, hyacinth, red apple lotus
Base Notes: Patchouli, cedar, musk amber incense
A beautiful fruity Oriental. On me this fragrance opening turns a bit too fruity for my own tastes. I have yet to try the classic vintage Zen and once I get a hold of it I’ll review that one. This scent is grapefruit juice, citric, pineapple juice in a blender. It’s very fruit, but not sweet in the typical sweet-fruit sort of way. It’s a fruit cocktail, very concentrated. I think it smells delicious and I would drink it if I could especially because the aromatic patchouli in the base notes and the “green” florals of its heart strangely turn the whole thing into a perfume equivalent of a V8! This smells so healthy and good for you! It’s like a Japanese nutritionist just gave me a fragrance that will prolong my life, detoxify my body of any harmful substances, freshen my skin and give me a radiant glow. After the fruit scents dissipate, I smell the lily of the valley, the freesia, the lotus and the hyacinth in that order. They are little flowers of subtle sweetness and most of all greenness. These are not screaming attention grabbing flowers despite the gardenia. They’re like flowers in a print on a kimono. They’re clearly there you can smell them but they’re decorative and not jumping out at you. All the base notes are the type that give the fragrance oomph heft and long lasting life. On me the base note of amber became very pronounced. It turned everything into a kind of clean skin scent, not soapy just skin freshness. I also got a soft wood note the cedar wood. It’s really a beautiful well balanced well behaved peaceful fragrance. It’s composition is so, so perfect. It doesn’t get too heavy or too weak. It really does smell of Zen, of Buddhist temperance, contemplation, simplicity, order, and solitude. When I wear this I just want to be alone so I do wear it for myself and to comfort myself with the scent. Perfect for bed time, great for an afternoon at home by yourself or even with a loved one just being intimate or just relaxing in front of the TV or reading a book, whatever you do when you’re at home with no plan or schedules to keep that day or anywhere to go – like a classic lazy Sunday morning. This is really a beautiful fragrance. I was enchanted by it but I wonder just how the vintage one wears. We’ll see.

I think of a strong woman that is elegant, understated but really powerful. This perfume is very nice. But understated. Seductive with a slightly mysterious tone. Clean fresh and can be used during the day. it has a good staying power. Not much Silage. I will purchase a full bottle.

  33. :

I found this really nice and elegant feminin one that flirts to unisex during the top notes’ performance, but when drying down and rests, it provides its original feminin side. It is really clean, fresh and inoffensive smell at first, elegant vibe, pleasant, green i’d say and light; it’s NOT another fruity/sweet/floral one as so many female frags out there. Sillage is not a monster but longevity is quite good evethough the scent is staying close to skin (although the temperature levels always make tricks..)
    Discreet strength! Like.
Also nice bottling / whole design and promo.

I just can’t not love this. I bougt another bottle for over 50% off during cyber monday.I like the citrucy top notes – they wake me up, make me more alert. The base calms me down, and just smells so wonderful of non-sweet citrus, amber, cedar, and some notes that I’m not familiar with. You know when you see cuper-cute animals and get that cute-rage. Well, with this one I get smells-great-rage XD Both are because of too much positive emotions, which is just what I need when I feel stressed out or sad. There’s just something magical to me about this perfume 🙂 This perfume is multidimentional, and I really look forward to testing it out in different weather, to see all of its colours 🙂

  35. :

At first, this perfume seemed a bit strange to me. I couldn’t smell the different notes apart, and I generally have a problem with many citrus fragrance, as where I live, many cleaning supplies smell citrus. At first I thought I might have made a mistake, even though I had smelt this in store multiple times. I still decided to force myself to wear it for some time and see if I changed my mind… And I did 🙂 This is pretty!
The top note on me is mandarin. Usually, this note doesn’t last, but in this perfume, it definitely hangs around for some hours. Under this note, I smell something ambery-mineral, very smooth and soft; I still cannot make out any notes. It’s not flowery or fruity, as it might seem from the notes, except for the top mandarin note. It’s very balanced indeed. The whole wear-time this changed in a very good way – no weird yransitions or strange, chemical dry-down. It’s a high-quality perfume. Not loud at all, not intrusive, but Unfortunately not very long-lasting. I really like that it doesn’t have a musk-note, which is so characteristic for newer perfumes. Timeless and ageless

Favorite perfume ever!!! That’s my signature scent. It’s so sophisticated, deep, mysterious and sexy fregrance! However I can never detect the lemon, the pineapple, the lime, the orange or any of the floral notes. Patchouli, amber, incense, cedar and musk are very intensive and noticeable, especially patchouli. Very long lasting. It’s not too heavy and strong ,still sexy, attractive, delicate and sooo addictiveee!!

  37. :

    4 out of 5

A good example of modern Chypre perfume. Very reminiscent of Chanel Coco Mademoiselle, although less sweet and with a woody hint, and some vague Eastern vibe. A bit syntethical, perhaps. Zen is on the other hand, not zen at all. I think the name in this has not been very well chosen. It has some far-east quality, indeed, but not zen. Not simplicity, not naive joy, not refined poverty… If so, Zen makes me to think about the mysterious and flamboyant ladies in the imperial Japanese court at the middle age: Sei Shonagon, Murasaki Shikibu, Ono No Komachi…all in rich and heavy attires, the Juni-hitoe or twelve layered kimono, in many fantastic colors and enhanced with gold and silver embroideries, their long black hair loose, reaching the floor, their faces made up in white, all emanating faint, but delicate and persistent perfumes… Very refined women, and very cultivated and intelligent, too. Although very secretive and discreet.
Zen opens with a huge blast of citruses, tropical fruits and herbs, wich settles down then in a floral-greenish, very non-distinguishable heart. The base notes are very woody, incense-like and strong. The general feeling is that this is a fresh perfume, although rich and sofisticated, suitable for all times and ocassions. Extremely long lasting and with a very good projection. Not a masterpiece, perhaps (I think the previous White Zen was better, and, on the contrary of this, truly zen), but well made. A bit pricey, though.
The flacon is nice, although somewhat misleading, and not very practical.
Would have been Zen a film, it would have been indeed Teinosuke Kinugasa’s The Gate of Hell.

For patchouli lovers! Altough I’m not a big fan of patchouli as it can be too sharp sometimes, Zen is a fragrance where patchouli is used right. It’s like with Prada Amber and Jessica Simpson’s Fancy Nights,in those two patchouli is perfect. And so it is in Zen. Deep rich pathcouli with crispy and freh pineapple and citrus. really like it! Longevity is great too!

It is such an original and rich fragrance. If i had to define it with one word i would say ‘comfort’ . Reminds me the feeling of being in wooden houses with fireplaces in winter .I wouldnt wear it for daytime, or in hot climate. Surprisingly in contrast to all of this stable emotions it gives , it is still a sexy smell .

  42. :

    3 out of 5

I bought this blindly thinking just about the name. I hoped it would be a comforting, creamy, dreamy, aromatic masterpiece that makesme have that inner smile of understanding life just by smelling it. And its not!
Its a cheaper dupe for Chanel- Chance eau fraiche with its pungeant, spiked, high notes that pierce through my head. Nothing Zen about it. Fortunately, the sillage and lasting power are nowhere near Chance’s. After 2 hours, especially in warmer weather, poof, nothing.
Really wanted to love this. Hopefully, sooner or later, someone will create a real Zen perfume.

    An incredible fragrance.
At first my attention was captured by the Moon Essence version but in comparison the original won my heart so it’s on my wish list now.
I don’t relate the name of it with the mood it brings; ZeN should be cool and calming like a breeze high in the mountain on a crisp spring morning. This one here is so far from that: it’s an uplifting perfume for a joyous summer midday filled with laughter, quite warm and bright but also fresh and elegant enough for an urban setting.
The color of the packaging is a good match for the scent but I wish the bottle itself wasn’t that cheap looking. I love it anyway though.

  45. :

    Zen is addictive.
It is perfect for hot weather, summer, mingling in a party. It is perfect for a hot date, for hot-heads. It is a strong scent, determined to get you out of the ordinary, a scent that would not fail you.
In the meantime, Zen is zen. One sniff and you’re relaxed, at a pace with yourself, it’s like you remember, for just one instant, a moment in time when you felt the best, and you just smile to yourself, preparing to make the best out of it again. Zen is a promise to yourself.
I can barely wait for the hot weather.
[Zen is not citrusy at all! If fragrantica would use the note of “petrichor”, Zen would be one such perfume.]

I think the scent of this parfume is very difficult to describe. Im normally not a big fan of strong scents, but i must say i looove this one. I first got it as a sample and the spicy scent really made me feel like i was a mature woman (somehow like a strong and sexy business woman, it got that im-rich-and-independent smell to it if that makes sense) everytime i wore it. Normally im into fresh and fruity scents and i hate strong scents but this one got me because its so unlike any other scents out there. So i got the full size for when i want to feel more mature and more lady like:) definately try it out next time you walk by a parfume store, i think this is a scent you either love or hate.. I definately love it!!;)

I love this perfume although it doesn’t last on me, seems to disappear after 2-3 hours which is disappointing. I find it very similar to Coco Mademoiselle. I like the price, but not sure if I will buy this one again. I’d probably rather pay more to get Coco Mademoiselle which lasts longer than get this one again.

  49. :

    3 out of 5

I got this as a sample with an other shiseido perfume.
Wow, just wow, it is a soft and light perfume, very subtle. It opens with a very fresh floral note with some pineapple in it. It is not as citric and sweet as other fragrances. It has a very soft and floral opening. In the middle it opens with a very floral-peppery scent that has some soap like notes.
Lotus hyacinth and lotus are the main notes in the middle.
In the end there is a nice more spicy-balmy note.
yes it is a perfume with some greatness. It is marked as female. I think it is in the end unisex with more female notes but not typical female notes. because if sweetness is more a female quality in perfumes, then some other perfumes of this house are also female whereas they are marked as male.
But this is a great creation. And great perfumes are mostly in the end unisex.

Quite nice, full of many fruits and flowers. There’s fresh spiciness in it. I enjoyed the composition of patchouli and amber in base notes. Top notes were okay but didn’t blow me away.
It’s good – feminine and quite elegant. Wearable.

If you like the sweet-fruity-floral-on-a-bed-of-patchouli genre, the 2007 version of Zen may appeal to you.
I found it rather uninteresting and slightly irritating; worse, after about 5 hours, in combination with other ambient scents (say in a restaurant) it turned sour and strangely dirty.
If you fondly remember the previous, dry, resinous, cedar-y version of Zen, wait until Christmas, when Shiseido releases it as a limited edition. It is absolutely unrelated to the aforementioned fruit cocktail.

When I smelled this for the first time I thought WOW, this might be one of the perfumes I LOVE at first smell and I still love it even after a few hours.
It’s clean, elegant and fresh and good for everyday wear or even as signature. It is subtle and not overpowering. Good for the modern, sweet and sophisticated women.

l got it yesterday as a gift and was surprised l like it very much!!! Before l have tried it a lot of times but never was curious to wait the development on my skin. l have to admit for my taste is not the perfume to fall in love with the first sniff. Sometimes we are so enthusiast with top notes when we try one perfume and in this way we make a choice, losing the opportunity to give a chance in some other perfumes which doesn’t draws our attention in the first sniff .
This happens to me with this perfume!!!
l spray only twice and it has a great long lasting power on my skin from yesterday in afternoon until today in morning smell the same. ZEN is very pleasant, comfort, fresh and absolutely relaxing. l love citrus smell but in extremely fresh, a little bit sharp-strong but ZEN is different ,the citrus here is more comfort and well blended with other notes especially with patchouli. For patchouli lovers ZEN is something they must try!! My best perfumes with patchouli l love are 1- Elle YSL and 2- Midnight Poison , l have also Mademoiselle and Chance Chanel but l dare to admit l can put ZEN in third place!!! l love ZEN because is more comfort for me ,one perfume to wear in some days we don’t know what to wear…something is too strong …something is to fresh …maybe too sweet …and YES, ZEN IS PERFECT !!! l am glad this one works with my body chemistry and l can feel the development of the perfume especially after one hour when the flowers appears more dominant and after hours everything is well blended in a warm comfort and sensual way.

I very much wanted to like this because it seemed unique and fresh, but hadn’t met my expectations. It is a fusion of grapefruit, bergamot, peach, pineapple, blue rose, freesia, gardenia, red apple, violet, lily of the valley, hyacinth, rose, lotus flower, patchouli, cedar, musk, white musk, amber, incense and marine plant. It turned out to seem quite old fashioned with too much bergamot, through which I couldn’t smell much of anything but some citrus, the scent at first is extremely strong, not smooth at all, but vanishes quite quickly. The fragrance seemed somewhat ordinary and not trendy. The bottle is also ridiculous and completely unconvenient to carry in the handbag. It’s not a fragrance I would purchase at all.

I love it! No need to spritz too much. Ones or twice is enough. If you had a bad luck with Zen, maybe it was not the original.

Maybe it is the power of suggestion but I do feel ~Zen~ when I wear this fragrance.
I enjoy wearing it to work because I feel it grounds me and gives me a peaceful serenity. I can wear it day or night and feel positive and quietly confident.
Many reviewers have commented on the pineapple note. IMO the pineapple doesn’t turn it into a fruity scent, more that it adds a hazy shimmer to the incense underneath.
It goes on my love shelf.

I’ve used this master piece twice already. I can’t use it anymore because I know I would hate it.
I am still in search for a perfume that makes me happy the same way. I bought “untold” Elizabeth Arden, and it was a big disappointment

While it lasts, it smells wonderfully. Moderately citrusy, sweet, warm, woodsy. Stays close to skin. Very classy. Alas, the staying power is not good. At least for the money.

One of my all time favorites along with my cristalle, bois de iles, black, so pretty, etc. Given all other reviews, I will definitely say this scent succeeds based on its compatibility with the wearer’s chemistry. On me it is just glorious…so subtle and elegant in a Japanese lady kind of way and yet so present. Tons of “you smell wonderful, what scent are you wearing?” and lots of surprised looks when I say Shishiedo Zen.

I used to work with a lady colleague who always stood up among us by her both fashionable and gallant style. Knowing that, it surprised us that she stopped taking a bath regularly. She did mentioned that currently uses ZEN, but I didn`t link it with ZEN….until one day I tested it, among others, in parfumery – RECOGNIZED IT instantly >>> unbearable feeling of stale sweat in full swing…and after a month or a two, an poor woman passed me on the street smelling the same…..So it is not all in your skin type, there`s something in your really bad bad choice!
