Bought a sample because I’m mulling a FB of Himalaya, so I thought I should give this a shot first to see if the similarities are all they’re cracked up to be. My verdict: they’re obviously similar, but Himalaya is by far superior in quality. I’ve always found that cheap fragrances tend to belie their lesser quality in the dry down and XS is no different, and a deal-breaker for me. I’m no expert, but the base of this smells like it’s made of the same stuff found in other super cheapies, e.g., Love & Luck. I could really care less if XS came first, Himalaya comes off far more natural and pleasing (think of the difference between real maple syrup and Aunt Jemima), especially over the course of 8-10 hours. No offense to Mr. Rabanne and XS supporters, but the differences are significant enough to merit shelling out more $ for the Creed version, although not at the outlandish retail price.

Good stuff. A bright, transparent fragrance that’s very suitable for casual wear and office wear alike. It is light & refreshing & elegant & aromatic, I do love it. Smell-wise somehow close to D&G One EDP without tobacco note in it

This is a great smelling timeless scent in my opinion. Its very affordable and offers a classy composition for the money. Ideal for a formal or office environment. Would make a great signature scent for a person 30+ or a younger person who likes a bit of old school flair in their scents.
I get bergamot, mint and rosemary in the opening, as the scent dries down the musk, woods and vanilla come through smoothing the composition beautifully. I usually wear 4 sprays and get 6+ hours with good sillage throughout.
No doubt Creed Himalaya was hugely inspired from this scent and while I think the Creed does smell more refined Paco Rabanne XS certainly holds its own against a scent 10x the price.
Essential classic scent for those looking for a classy masculine citrus.
    9/10

Is this Creed Himalaya? No, Creed Himalaya is XS. After wearing this side by side for 3 days.
Just like Mont Blanc Individuel and Original Santal.
Creed was obviously impressed and took inspiration from this to create Himalaya.
Ok, Himalaya is more natural, richer, greener, woodier for 2 hours. After that they both merge to a same scent.

    Scent
Bergamot, Rosemary opening to Sage and Rosewood heart to Sandalwood Ending.
That exact transition is why himalaya smells like this.

A cheaper alternative to Creed Himalaya (and it was created before Creed).
It used to be one of my favorites in the early 90s, when I was 20. I wanted to retry it 30 years later but the 2018 version is reformulated and smells more like Eternity by Calvin Klein than the original XS. It is less angular and has lost an important part of its masculine character. Maybe more wearable for 2018, but less metallic and strong.

XS Paco Rabanne smells fresh (herbal/salty bergamot), rich sharp and pungent, love that old skool vibe about it.
The character of this fragrance is sophisticated, serious and confident, not the sweet young playful type. It’s perfect for the mature man and also for work settings or any other setting for that matter. Amazing cooling affect in the high summer day time heat which can make this scent addictive. Projection and longevity is above avarage. Absolutely fantastic fragrance.

I bought this as a blind buy when I saw a 2016 bottle (judging by the bottle design and batch code) for £15 for 30ml. I did a quick bit of research before buying and most are saying that it’s a clean, masculine scent and pretty good quality and man were they right!
upon first spray I get a nice fresh scent with a bit of citrus, but not overpowering, which starts to dry down and bring in the rosewood and sandalwood and a far amount of spice which again is not overpowering and keeping the scent smelling clean and fresh. I’ve been wearing this for 2 hours and I’m still able to smell it very clearly as it is quite a strong scent.
I’m not going to say that this fragrance stands out from the rest, because it doesn’t. But if you are looking for something fresh for everyday use in work, this would actually be one of my top choices along with Dior Sauvage or Prada L’homme. I’m even tempted to say that it could be good for an all year round casual scent as the spice holds up nicely and I think would be suited well during the colder months.

    Reviewing a bottle from 1998.
Well, it’s clean, masculine and fresh yet cooling and somewhat synthetic. Starts off with a green opening with pine plus a hint of mint and transitioning into violets, which give off a slight metallic feeling. After this juniper and musky cedar with a bit of sandalwood come into play and give a touch of an amber-y base, joined by a huge dose of oakmoss that – surprisingly – doesn’t make it feel dated liked other scents from around this time. The strong oakmoss may of course be due to the older bottle.
In short, a fruity floral with great projection.
I’ll have to compare this with a bottle from stores today, to see what the similarities are.
Edit one week later : Just tested the new version in a local store today – the scent is almost identical, only has the oakmoss almost disappeared making it much less “butch” and more contemporary. Still a great scent with decent projection and longevity.

This is heaven. It’s almost the same as Creed Himalaya, which i felt has this feminine vibe that i disliked. XS is basically the same smell, just with a more masculine edge.
Mountain freshness to counter the high summer heat.

Being a fan of PRPH I gave this one a try, a blind buy that wasn’t a hit in my book. The overall smell is nice but I get zero longevity/sillage from it.

The whole city (Bergen, Norway) smelled of this nice male perfume back in the 90th. And, I think it’s still a “fantalastisk bra” scent =))

This has been my dad’s “signature” for years, much to my dismay. It smells delicious for a pork marinade, but not at all for an adult man. The aromatic nature of the fragrance is so aggressive that it never “settles”, it fills the air and insists on being noticed, which is a quality I have never admired in men’s fragrances. Yes, it is a fresher smell than the more common clouds of over-the-top male scents, but it just doesn’t smell like a man to me.

  14. :

This is honestly one of the most repulsive fragrances I’ve ever smelled. It was a blind buy, and a horrible one at that. I would never put this on my skin, as even the slightest sniff of it makes me recoil in disgust. As soon as I got it, I put it up for sale on eBay. Now, Black XS, on the other hand, is a different story. I love myself some thick, rich, fruity Black XS.

I got hold of this to sample it almost entirely because of Gerard Anthony’s involvement.
Unfortunately, I don’t like this one at all, despite loving several of Anthony’s other fragrances. The juniper and rosemary for me are quite aggressive, and the blend leaves me a bit nauseated. In general, I find this fragrance a bit too reminiscent of pine-freshener, a bit cheap smelling. Disappointing. Overall the feeling for me from this fragrance is ‘hostile’.

    I really enjoy this.
I bought it because a 30ml/1oz bottle is available for £13 at Home Bargains in the UK.
I’ve ignored this for many years but I wish I hadn’t as it’s fresh, clean, unique and very good quality imho.
Many have said it’s generic but I can’t think of anything like it and I don’t see it as dated at all, unlike original PR Pour Homme, which is a classic that I still think smells great, but does give off the ‘old man’ vibe and as such I won’t wear it.
Really like and recommend this and I think I’ll pick up a large bottle when my little bargain bottle is gone!

Fresh, herbal, and a little spice to make it nice…
However, this will only last for two hours before it’s
gone… Wish it lasted longer. My bottle was made in Spain.

Borrowed a bottle of this from a work friend. Dry woods, fresh herbal greens, mint, citrus, musk. PRXS is a mature “masculine” fragrance better suited for formal occasions or work. Inoffensive, safe, a little boring; smells a little too typical. I can see someone’s dad wearing this. Good for spring, autumn and winter. Flip top on the bottle is cool and the sprayer works well. Sillage and projection seem a little below average. Lasts on me for around eight hours but pretty soft after three. Even with the inexpensive price I don’t know if this one is worth it. Not terrible but definitely not for me.

XS by Paco Rabanne is a nice nineties freshie that has stood the test of time and is still a relevant fragrance today. To me this is Platinum Egoiste’s shy cousin. The opening is beautifully herbaceous and citrusy. The opening is similar to Platinum Egoiste without the metallic effect. The mint and tarragon are the real stars of the opening and create an instant freshness. Overall, XS feels bright and slightly soapy. The sage and rosemary keep the herby vibe of the scent pumping, until the arrival of the pepper and juniper which give it a slight piney or coniferous vibe. The brazilian rosewood and musk come in to give the scent some warmth and depth and add just a little woody sweetness to the scent. PR XS is still a great scent and merits spring and summer wearings, in the office or out. When XS is sprayed its a declaration to your friends and colleagues that; Summer is coming!

XS is a nice fresh, herbal, woody 90s offering. Daytime/office appropriate.
It has good longevity for me and decent projection. A new bottle I recently purchased smells just as I remember it. If XS has been reformulated I don’t notice any change.

Another great classic! I had so many compliments thanks to this scent back in a days. It was a real neck breaker and a girl magnet. In my Top 10 old school frags. 🙂

If it wasn’t for the lack of strength/longevity of this scent it would be a straight 10/10.
A gorgeous subtle aroma that is so addictive, such a shame it is not more potent.
Probably why you can pick it up in Boots for £26

This is one classy fragrance, forget the reviewers who said women walked by saying this reminded them of their dad! I have worn this and whilst I am old enough to be the dad, young and mature women absolutely love this. I had one girl who came up behind me, pinched my bum and said I smelt gorgeous! She followed me as she said down the street and whilst queuing up to pay for something just had to tell me.I think that says it all. My g/f was not impressed and has banned me from wearing it!

  28. :

    3 out of 5

On me it smells rather sophisticated and complex, it lasts forever and has an enormous projection. While it is better for night, it can be worn any time of the year day or night. Its strong, so you need to be mindful of people with allergies and people that do not like scents. Some people have described it as inexpensive or not complex. I think this might be because it was a tad overused by everyone in the past not as much as because of how it smells. Nowadays it is an instantly recognizable different smelling fragrance. I guess this is one of those that can react different on different people, but then again, most colognes react differently on my skin, usually for the better, but I am not one to be safe on blind buys. To me this is ageless leaning towards a more mature yet youthful man that knows and likes a good time, just not at loud clubs, maybe more at fun but quieter place, or out on a date.

  29. :

    4 out of 5

Not very complex. Very in your face. A young lady walked past and said I smelled like her dad. Lol so very mature but simple. Not unique enough for me to enjoy it. Smells of too much pine. If they replaced that with amber vanilla and smokey notes this could have been a masterpiece.

Compared to most Paco Rabanne’s house of fragrances, Paco Rabanne XS is a discount fragrance. This is when considering it can be found fairly easily for under $50 for 3.4 oz (even under $30) when you cannot really find any other Paco Rabanne that is regularly under $60 for 3.4 oz. That said don’t think that this makes XS a bad scent whether scent wise or performance wise. Honestly, XS is a pretty damn good scent.
XS performs really good and is a pretty unoffending smell that can nearly be a day time all seasons cologne. It really isn’t a nighttime scent but that isn’t a bad thing. Not all scents can be, nor should they be. That is something that I need to remember at times. The scent lasts about six hours though up to seven in ideal situations. It projects about at a moderate arm’s length at its best.
XS isn’t like modern Paco Rabanne scents either where most can really sense it is synthetic (a huge knock on most of their wheelhouse except me.) it really smells in between old man and modern scent. It is kind of a less grassy prototype of Carolina Herrera 212 Men, one of the more common modern scent as well as a better Rocawear 9IX. The reason I say this is it is less spice dominating like 9IX and 212 Men are both to my nose. I get bergamot and a little bit of mint in the opening along with spicy terragon; coriander and Brazilian rosewood with a little bit of sage in the middle; and sandalwood and musk in the base notes.
I happen to like the scent of Paco Rabanne XS honestly, the mix works for me unlike the more grassy and musky 212 Men or more musky 9IX. I am glad to have this in my collection as it is a nice one to put on a day where you don’t do a lot or just a typical day at work. 7.9/10 for moderate length and sillage.

One of my all-times favourite, now sadly reformulated to a toned-down ‘updated’ and ‘revamped’ version. But why? this perfume had it all: not too ‘classy’, not too ‘sticky’, not too persistent to annoy your significant other. Maybe because time goes on and tastes evolve? Well, nice move, but not too fortunate.

I’ve been wearing this frag since 1996 and had several bottles of this. A couple of weeks ago I got one after almost two ywars since I finished the previous one. This frag udes to be a head-turner on me and I got compliments every time I wore it, but now, it still smells as I remembered it, but not as strong as in the past. I’ve been waering it for the last four days and no one has complimented me at all even when I got sniffs of it from time to time alonog the day. I love XS over One Million and Invictus. I don’t like both of them, but I have to sadly admit that one of my all time favorite fragrances has become a victim of reformulation. The power is gone in the new formula, though it wasn’t famous for its sillage, but I used to enoy the way it smelled.

I recently acquired a bottle of Paco Rabanne XS and on first impressions; this fragrance comes across as very clean, fresh and spicy. Quite light for work environments thus this fragrance won’t be turning heads, unless you’re a bit over zealous with the spray.
Longevity and projection are average, two-four hours tops, which is fine for this fragrance as I have to say it’s not one of my favourites. If you’re spoilt for choice (like me) and you want something light and inoffensive for work or casual gatherings with family or friends, just spray XS and you’ll be good to go.
*Note* I have the newer reformulated version, so this review is based off that.

I have been wearing this fragrance for many years and still feel its a great fragrance. Its a shame more people do not appreciate how good it is as a fragrance. I really like the citrus fruity elements in this perfume. Great stuff from Paco Rabanne

  41. :

This is a nice clean citrus scent that you can wear in the office. Projection is not very good and the longevity is about 4 hours on my skin.
This fragrance is like quiet and modest gentleman who prefers to sit in a corner for a nice conversation. That said I wouldn’t recommend this for clubbing as it could easily be drowned by other fragrances.

    Original Formula:
That was my favourite male’s perfume ever (along with DG Pour Homme) as a teenager back in late 1990s. -I’m a girl.- I used to love this so much I would spritz my pillows with it and I had indeed stolen my father’s bottle. I remember taking a motorcycle trip with a guy who was happened to wear this. Mesmerized by the smell, I still cannot find the words to describe the agony of being have to say no to him when he asked me to be his girlfriend. A gorgeous smelling motorcyclist could be the dream of every teenage girl, still though not enough for me for a rather serious commitment, being your logical lady who occassionally goes bad since then.
Ah, the perfume notes, before jumping in to write a review, may I say I didn’t even bother to check them -even now as a grown up + curious perfumista-, since this is such a COMPACT perfume… Let the mystery stay that way, and original formula as the original seduction.*

This has been reformulated and the overall smell, projection, and longevity pale in comparison to the old grey/black label version. The newer version has a silver XS label. The differences are quite prominent. The newer version is like a watered down version of Black XS. The old version smells like A brighter version of Creed’s Himalaya. If you’re going to buy this or review it keeps this in mind. The new version frankly sucks ass.

  45. :

    5 out of 5

Comparisons to Platinum Égoïste and Himalaya are apt. But then again, Excess can’t be more than 60% or 70% similar (tops) because I like it much more than the Chanel and the Creed. One of the things I disliked about PE is its frigidity – the fragrance smells cold, metallic, almost like frosted glass covered in pine needles, a conceptually wan smell, bloodless and weak. Conversely, Himalaya gets a bit too Earthy for my taste, its richness very interesting (a scent within a scent) but perhaps a touch overwrought.
Excess straddles both worlds and strikes a keen balance between them, feeling both icy and crisp, yet sweet and warm at the same time, its affability apparent a mere five minutes after application. Like Himalaya, it begins with a peppery juniper and bergamot (Creed employs a bolder “pink pepper” note), then deepens into something a bit darker, greyer, very much like a gunpowder note, but with an anchor of synthetic sandalwood, rosewood, and the faintest hint of vanilla. It’s really very nice. There’s also a fruity mandarin note in the heart accord, which adds to the woody sweetness I get. Despite the different notes, the heart of Excess is very similar to Green Irish Tweed’s Millesime base. And guess what? Himalaya’s drydown is similar also, even though it came several years after Paco Rabanne’s 1993 release.
I didn’t expect to like Excess as much as I do. I held off on getting it for a long time because frankly I don’t have the time for its comparatives, and the fact that so many smell the Égoïste/Himalaya similarity put me off. I needn’t have worried, because Excess is the best of the three.

My very first fragrance! Yes, I know it’s nothing special, but this instantly conjures up memories of strutting around college in my white jeans, thinking I was great (which I clearly wasn’t). Love it how a smell can take you right back!
But despite the fond memories, I won’t be buying XS anytime soon, if at all. Definitely aged by today’s standards – so many more better scents out there, even at the low price you can pick this up for. Better left as a memory!

Is a neat man juice, classic and pleasant, inoffencive fresh and clean citrusy thing with a spicy hint. Some lagerfeld photo (vintage) flashes on drydown i really felt, was a good factor; the whole thing is pretty wearable i think. Could easily fit in the barber category as well. Interesting and inoffencive classic i guess that smells differently to different skins. Like.

I particularly can’t smell anything like Himalaya out of this one, aside from the citrus-meets-sandalwood. Himalaya is creamier and smoother, whereas XS smells more like a toned-down, brighter, more herbal and pleasant version of Herrera For Men. I guess it’s probably the tobacco/clove/lavender combination in Men that turns out to be unpleasant to my senses; XS, on the other hand, never goes too far to give me a headache. Excellent longevity, good projection. A classic that aged really well; and a staple in my closet.

Read through these notes to find someone claiming PacoRabanne threatened by Carolina Herrera legally over this being a copy of Herrera for Men? Don’t see the similarity other than both been in the ‘green aromatic’ family which also covers most cologne based fragrances anyway! Herrera for Men has similar ingredients, but the results on the skin are vastly different. There is a certain ‘carnality’ in Herrera due to the Ambergris which will never be emulated by the Vanilla tranquility of the XS. Although I’ve regularly smelled the XS in passing, I’ve not, until today given it any more than a cursory squib on my hand. But today I drained the final dregs of Herrera for Men onto my neck(neck for when ‘I’ want to smell what I’m wearing, rather than chest and arms for others) and because today looks set to be hot outside, I decided to give XS a go in support.
    * 2 hours in, and it has settled nicely on my skin, it’s helping me feel fresh, clean, crisp, cool and subversively masculine.
    * 4 hours in and the persistence is still good. The herbal notes are emphasising the refreshing bergamot note and at the moment the fragrance is progressing along a linear type… usually by now on my skin the vanilla and musk elements would have taken over, but XS has retained the ‘stay fresh’ nature.
    * 5 1/2 hrs and the fragrance has dried down to make the difference between the listed vanilla and musk imperceptible from the warmth of my skin. Above that though, still sits the linear mint and bergamot green notes. I’ll have to admit I don’t think there’s much more to be unearthed at this point other than it’s brilliance at alleviating fatigue and tiredness during a long day. Un-obtrusive and deceptively clever fragrance.
    * Okay… Wow, over 7 1/2 hrs later and the fresher notes have popped back up again after an afternoon break in the sunshine and XS has performed in longevity much, much better than I expected.
Although XS is outside of my comfort zone in terms of type, I can easily see why it has stood for a decade as a favourite for ‘everyday wear’. Perhaps it unfair for it to be offered at a reduced price in a lot of UK stores, but it does offer the consumer the opportunity to feel almost immaculately fresh and clean all day.
It is wrong to say that this is nothing special, so I won’t, but this does fill a much needed niche where it stands invaluable nonetheless.

I still have the old version. Its a signature Paco Rabanne scent that associates with Luxury, Precious Metals, Leather, and Warmth. Reminds me of Coriander and Rosewood. Intoxicating if sprayed too much. It will last you 4-6 hours for a few sprays on the chest. I’m not a fan of it but I respect the scent and the sophistication it brings. Best for formal meetings. Not good for sensitive noses.

To me, it’s nice. That’s all.
Perfectly respectable and clean, but lacks confidence. I won’t ever reach for this in my collection…. I’d much rather reach for YSL PH, Emporio Armani, Bogart PH, Hugo Boss, etc, etc.
This is going to be a gift to someone.

This is a bracingly icy green scent, but it’s a little too synthetic for me. It opens as a pine forest with some violets in the underbrush. As the violet begins to get more prominent, it starts to remind me of the modern concrete-like aspect of Narciso Rodriguez. Juniper, or something like it, becomes more obvious as well. There’s a little bit of household cleaner in it, but not as much as the similar cheapo Stetson Sierra which I’m concurrently reviewing. A little cedar starts to emerge to cut it, which I normally would like, but I fear that not enough has been used. Plus, its a dark, musky cedar that feels contaminated to me. As it devolves further into woody violets, I start to get tired of it. It loses intensity rather drastically in the drydown though, so in the final stages I sort of forget about it. It’s not really for me, but I could see how other people might like it.

This reminds me of my dad. he used to wear this all the time… i just need to find a way of layering it with the smell of motorcycle oil and leather, and it’d be perfect!

This stuff is nice I cant really tell what notes I am smelling my guess is because its all blended very well although at times especially in the opening I can smell the wood and from what I can tell some type of fruit. What do I smell and how would i describe this scent? “barber shop” not like prada amber more like that frag from ysl that has a black and white tube. Anyways its a nice and clean fragrance good for work and even though it smells like it has lots of spices and its not a citrus or aquatic it works during the summer. Why? Not sure but it has a clever note which smells of ice or something frozen. How do I feel when I wear this or what comes to mind? a nice clean button down shirt with nice dress slacks heck maybe even a round of golf.

This is a nice smell. But to me, it lacks something, maybe it is a slightly insecure fragrance, but I like it.

XS was one of my first perfumes.
A cool combination, opens with citrus touches and and half green, minty, and then merges with a fruity touch the heart.
It brings the feeling of melon, juniper can be with geranium, but has the touch with woody or tobacco.
The base that tone gains strength, and is adjacent aroma with the sandalwood which gives some creaminess and warms the fragrance, light honeyed nuances around. Beautiful scent!

XS is a fresh, Herbal Blast, which may knock you down, However! Let it settle for 10 minutes and you’ll be greeted with an intense, fresh, soapy, yet non generic scent. It is a pleasing almost invigorating aroma, the mint and bergamot play off each other, the terragon, juniper and sage add this depth, along with the almost ethereal and dreamy sandalwood, and rosewood Base. It is not your typical Citrus overload, Summer frag, it is a fresh frag, worth having in your collection. If standing out from the fresh as air and water clan is your forte and still want spicy yet heavenly Fresh, then XS is the Best Choice, 212 and XS will always win me over every Summer. I Love.
    8/10.
And it Projects for 5 hours and Lasts on my skin for almost 10 hours. That’s another reason to get this Stunner.

What a lovely surprise, I was waiting for something like a wall of scent from the 90’s and instead XS is a very discreet and understated fragrance. All I get in the top is citrus and mint and some powdery geranium, a lillte sweet and soapy. Can feel some of the woods and a lillte vanilla in the background. Also nice and clean and subdue bergamott, almost anticeptical. I cannot tell whether it would be better with a lillte more citrous or amber/woody notes? Not bad at all for the price. No coriander nor sage for me. I like it. So very masculine.

The first time, I had an encounter with these giants, as long ago as 94! Remember, buddy’s dad brought him, because he was a punk, was not in his ‘catch, and sold it to me, was actually bartering, I took perfume of 50 ml.pa next week I went to Bulgaria, and from there he brought a box of Snickers-and if I’m not mistaken, it was around 50 or so, chocolates or slt.sweetest replacement trade in history, great happiness, it was for me, after Kouros and Tabac Extreme, anything at that time, the ultra popular, a lot of ‘fancy Versace Blue Jeans, as he seemed quite serious, the first version, fittings Zippo lighters.ltimately, fresh green opening, slightly offset by mandarin and ‘tame wild mint, juniper, gives the’ green tone, which, aided coriander, go to sc.sour countryside, until, finally, he brings sandalwood oriental flavor, but quite a bit, but still enough to single out from the crowd, these green-sharp perfume, so typical for the 80’s, and start 90-s.Great perfume, these strange and unreal 90-s. being indeed then Perfume, made with style and soul! Following renewed several times, and went into oblivion legendary! Now, I almost tried it, and it’s not, more that, if it were reformulated or whatever, but it’s not the same filing. At home, I have a few more milliliters of the old one, and jealously guard it, for some, ‘young and some time, however, a beautiful youth in a crazy time.Even now, when I close my eyes and smell it,at first, be happy, but then the sad, because I know that even such a youth, never to return,as much as I wanted the opposite, but one thing is important-Dreams are always stronger than reality, and XS is Winner of time, and living witness of my sufferings, but I know we’ll meet again, and I know that the rain will fall, and I do not recognize, but for the moment I’
