I had high hopes but this is very similar to Kenzo Amour.

Good for powdery fragrance lovers. In Hypnotic Poison style. But I like this one more.

Do you know the strong smell of a new leather bag? This is it.
On my it only gets powdery after about 4 hours, and not the vintage make-up powder powdery smell, but rather older leather powdery with a hint of vanilla.
I am not saying it’s good or bad, but I wouldn’t use it. I can imagine someone using it for layering, as the blend is well done and overall it smells like one thing: new leather accessories becoming more powdery and bearable, while the vanilla base hits.

Has anyone in UK got a few mls of Valentina Poudre for sale? I’d like to buy it but I’m a bit scared it’s too sweet and similar to Hypnotic Poison (which I hate)

    Damn this is good.
I want this creamy, earthy, clay coloured bottle so much I wish I could afford it.
It reminds me slightly of a very old Donna Karan bath series smell, or even a Naomi scent of the millenium, but this is more addictive.
Comfortable, creamy but not vannilic, sexy but not sweet, powdery but not in the violet-rose way that most scents mean when they claim that characterization.
This is a heaven skinscent for sunny days and hot nights.

What a beauty! Poudre is an expensive cosmetic powder that isn’t too sweet and is just a tad musky. The silage is whisper soft and I fear for longevity. That alone is the only thing that would keep me from purchasing a FB. I wish it had a little more power but this type of scent is meant to be light. here’s hoping it lasts on my skin for a reasonable time. UPDATE: after a second wearing, I had a better silage experience, wasn’t soft at all, I felt like I was in the middle of a powder puff, fully encased in the scent bubble. Alas, I felt the ambrette was just a little overpowering and medicinal. Still a lovely scent but once that ambrette ramps, that’s all you can smell. I just swapped for a bottle of Alaia Blanche and I see it is supposed to be very similar and no ambrette! Can’t wait to compare for myself.

I have been craving for this perfume for 6 months! Yes, I need to save my money because this perfume is expensive for a college student like me:”)
First time I knew this perfume is because I went to Douglas and tried sniff it. When I went home, I was really amazed by the smell of powdery (I love soft perfume) and the longevity which is really long (it can be a whole day and it still lingers).
However, because it’s expensive, I always switch with my Jlo-Still perfume so it doesn’t empty quickly HAHA. This perfume really perfect for cold weather. It makes me feel calm. It is suitable too for day/hot condition, but sometimes if it’s really hot, it becomes a little bit heavy for my nose.
    Anyway, IT’S MY SIGNATURE now!

Yes, yes, yes! This is what I was looking for. Powder. Soft, expensive, good quality makeup powder. I loved it from the first sniff at a Sephora which rarely happens. If you love powder scents try this asap. It’s almost unbelievable how much this is like liquid powder, it smells dry, it’s like snorting lines of makeup powder with a rolled banknote.
In my opinion it doesn’t even smell like perfume, it smells like you would expect a well cared for women to smell like even though she’s not even actually wearing perfume.

I liked the smell when I sprayed the paper but when I put it on my skin it was stuffy and very heavy, really not for me

I fell in love with this fragrance, so powdery and creamy and nice, so soft… unfortunately this was only on paper.
When i sprayed it on my skin, after a little while it turned, it became sharp and so bitter, i had to wash it off (and it’s so long lasting, even after washing my arm i could still smell it)…
I really like it and the bottle is so pretty…i guess i’ll give it another try someday

I just wish fragrantica had a ‘meh’ button instead of love like and dislike.I also think there could be a ‘hate or ‘can’t stand’ button too.Anyhow… I should start by saying that I love cosmetic face powdery smelling perfumes as well as the creamy powdery ones (just not the baby powder kind). So, I was on the hunt of a really old fashioned elegant cosmetic powder fragrance with class and finesse. So eventually I was persuaded by all the glowing fragranticans’ reviews here that this is heavenly etc etc…so I did sth I thought I would never do – I bought a fragrance blindly…
This perfumes goes definitely to the dry powder category but it is a dusty and bitter kind of powdery. It is an unbalanced composition with none of the class or envelopping warmth these kind of fragrances have.
And yes, that bitter almondy note that pretty much ruins this for me reminds me strongly of dior hypnotic poison (without the cloying sweetness of dior – however this is kind of cloying as well in its own dry bitter way).
I should mention my age group here – I’m in my mid thirties and that I do not like overly sweet perfumes as my skin projects sweetness even more.
That is why I believe that if this perfume didn’t have that bitter almond kind of smell (nothing marzipan like which I love – in foods anyway)and if it had some other floral accord in it or even a bit of a balanced vanilla note, it would have been much better. As it is though, I’m just disappointed.
***I should mention here that I have bought La vie est belle body lotion (as I liked most of the perfume notes but was too sweet and cloying for my taste -so I opted for the body lotion that usually is a more balanced version of perfumes). The drydown of that body lotion is what old fashioned high end cosmetic powder smelled like…at least in my opinion…so if anyone based on this review as well as the info provided has some good recommendations of real classy old fashioned cosmetic powder fragrances, I would greatly appreciate it (you can send a personal message if you please).I should mention though I’m not a fan of rose perfumes-which seems to be the main accord of most perfumes categorised as ‘powdery’.

I really can’t see any difference between Valentina and Dior hypnotic poison EDT, they are almost identical, the vanlentia poudre has more heavy powder sense! But I don’t think anybody needs both of them!

    This perfume is divine!
Soft, delicate and powdery. This fragrance smells expensive and oh so sensually creamy against my skin. It’s not like baby powder, and while it’s a little more in line with high end cosmetic powder it’s much more fragrant and complex. It’s classy and feminine. I feel like a lady wearing this so I think it suits someone more sophisticated, not girly. The dry down has warm but subtle vanilla goodness with a floral hint. I like Narciso Rodriguez Poudree but I love this so many times more. This skips the sharp – almost medicinal – note that I pick up on Narciso (yep, I think my nose is a bit weird on that one so I realise not everyone will agree). Valentina Poudre is just smooth and gorgeous all the way.

    Powder heaven!
I have been looking for so long in stores for a tester as is very hard to find. Finally I could and it was exactly as I expected. Love at the first sniff.
I agree that this is not for everyone but only for powder nerds. In fact this is one of the most powdery fragrances I know. I wouldn’t call it a masterpiece, as it is too simple to be that, but it really satisfys my powder cravings, so I may call it the HG of powder scents.
To me it doesn’t smell like baby wipes but rather like expensive talcum powder or prestige makeup in an elegant boudoir, or of a happy childhood and mum’s hugs. It is cosy, sweet, comforting, warm, embracing, feminine in a timeless way. The almond note makes it a little bit sexy and this is where it resembles Hypnotic Poison a lot, but this is definitively softer, more powdery and delicate whereas HP is fruitier, spicier, deeper, sultrier. So, this can be a good hot weather option for HP fans, I think.
I only spray once or twice on the nape of my neck, under my hair as it is quite strong. It developes into the most enchanting powdery dry vanilla iris, warmed up by a delicate Amaretto note. The heliotropin gives that saccharine note with almond aroma that makes it quite sweet, sometimes almost on the verge of being sickening, this is why I don’t spray too much and too close to my nose. I also think that skin acidity, oils and warmth make a difference on how it develops.
    Compared to similar scents:
    – Alaïa Blanche is the most similar. Less dry with that bright creamy note, something like white flowers (the solar note?). Very good alternative.
    – Bvlgari Omnia Crystalline EDP has that powdery and almond note but less heliotrope, so it is not that sweet but rather musky and woody. It would be a great alternative for the warm weather.
    – Narciso Poudree is the most different despite the name. The pronounced patchouli and vetiver make it a bit more pungent in the beginning. It resembles more an expensive body lotion and the dry-down is something between Narciso in the white cube bottle layered with the classic NR for Her EDP.
If they all came in small 15ml bottles I would buy them all as they are all gorgeous with those powdery, vanilla, balmy notes.

It is the only perfume I felt I had to write a review about. Because it is the nicest one I ever had. I felt miserable when I found out that it was limited edition, now I think I heard it is not limited anymore, added in Valentino standard line. Powder yes but the best powder ever. Not sharp, (like Narciso) not baby, not girly, but classy, soft, airy, like the best powder ever. I could wear this all day every day, but because I have others too and love trying different ones all the time I come back to this one like a return to the love of my life. Hahahah. Wish it lasted more. This is my only issue I have. I smell it for about 3-4 hours. After that I loose it. If it could last more it would great. I will be buying for years I guess….

I got to have this.. my love for powder scents has led me to :Chanel 19 poudre (green fresh powder), Villoresi teint de neige (ultra strength baby-wipe powder), and l’Erbolario mandorla (almondy gourmand powder). What was missing was a powder/floral mix without sharp/soapy notes. Love chloe has Hyacinth in it witch to me overwhelms the entire soft and round aspect of powder. And Narciso poudre doesn’t work for me because of the synthetic musk (anosmic to it). So after some searching decided to try Valentina poudre and it has a baby-wipe aspect(no problem..love it)but also a more floral side. The opening was a bit rough though. Performance on paper is great; stil there after two days. On skin i have yet to try it out. Now to find a bottle…

I love everything about this, the bottle, the scent, but the strength is underwhelming. I simply can’t smell this after 5 sec of application. Bummer. Ps, this absolutely smells like a hypnotic poison poudre

  20. :

    3 out of 5

I finally picked this up! Gosh, it’s beautiful. It’s powdery, but not baby powder, it’s make-up powder. And, it’s a bit sweet. It lasts all day but I much prefer Narciso’s Poudree at the end, it’s just more interesting. I don’t regret owning both though one bit. Poudree is more woody, less sweet. Poudre is a touch more soft as well. Poudre is more classic, Poudree is straight up modern. Both are divine. To me is smells nothing like Hypnotic Poison, not one bit. HP has coconut and almond, this has vanilla, iris and powder…I’m so confused.
A note on Canadian availability, I’m not sure if the salesperson was pressuring me to buy (I don’t see why he was, I asked for it and clearly was going to buy it) but, he told me that The Bay is the exclusive distributor for this scent and they are not going to sell it any longer, no new stock. I’m not sure if it’s a limited edition (I hope not) or if he was correct on distribution. I do know I’ve been keeping my eye out at Shopper’s and never was available, not even at beauty boutique dot ca (their online shop). So, take that with a grain of salt but I thought I would mention it.

I’ve been wearing this perfume for 6 months now and I love it so much! It’s such a warm, comfortable, cozy scent. Reminds me of powdery makeup, terracotta, vanilla pods and thick woolly scarves in cold, snowy winters. The powdery notes and vanilla are definitively the most noticeable in this fragrance.
The sillage is strong, people say they smell it in the room I’ve been sitting in (with 2-3 sprays), so go lightly with this one. The longevity is very good; I’ve gotten compliments on this 12 hours after application!
This one is backup worthy! I’ve gotten so many compliments wearing this perfume, from family, coworkers and random people alike. LOVE IT!

The first Valentina fragrance I tried and found underwhelming was the Blush flanker. Now, the bottles are aesthetically pleasing, very appropriate for decoration on a dressing table, with a color supposedly matching the aroma, plus they steal the attention of the female buyers very easily.
I like it. I don’t love it. Would I recommend it? Yes. Sprayed myself at 11:00 and at around 13:30 my nose stopped getting wafts of the perfume but rather a distortion of the initial smell; not to the worse, it’s 15:30 and it’s there if I sniff it, it just got weaker and more “diluted”. Always close to the skin.
The official Valentino site for perfumes states two notes: terracotta powder and iris pallida. The card-sample spray from Sephora adds tuberose, vanilla and santalwood. And Fragrantica adds musk ambrette and tonka bean to the aforementioned. Isn’t this confusing?
The opening is vanilla. There is definitely the playdoh accord but it’s feminine nonetheless. The similarity with Hypnotic Poison is already evident but it stops at the playdoh only.
And a big amount of powder is added too. After some minutes you have the iris and after an hour or so a quiet tuberose and significantly less vanilla. No santal, no musk ambrette.
If it was only powdery, it wouldn’t be as appealing to young audiences, and the stuffy boudoir powder would be overwheling. Paired with a rather smooth vanilla and not a foody sweet one, the combination is very nice.
Appropriate for all ages, not that I’m ageist, but let’s face it: young audiences label powdery perfumes as “too vintage”, “too gramma” etc; this one is not vintage. It’s simplistic and decent! Y’all can wear it

Bought it online as a blind buy. It’s a lovely and long lasting fragrance but smells to me like Alaïa Blanche which I have too. I prefer Poudré as I find it less heady and sweet.
If anybody would like Alaïa 30ml please let me know.

  25. :

Finally! A successful blind buy! It is very well reviewed by previous posters, and although on first sniff I got scared because smelled identical to baby wipes -to those who say “poudre” is on the name what did I expect? Well I expect a floral, woody, scent WITH powder notes! Not down right baby wipes! Like Narciso Poudre doesn’t smell of baby powder/wiper or Chanel 19 Poudre. Anyway.- After the realistic and scary baby powder blast, it changed after 10 or 15 minutes and the floral woody notes emerged… And it is just lovely. It sits close to the skin and I love it!

  26. :

    5 out of 5

it’s the very definition of powdery note. i think it could be the most powdery perfume i’ve tried so far. not like baby powder or cosmetics, kind of softer and more elegant. it’s very warm and soft inspite the woodsy notes which are quiet and are only vaguely felt after the second or third sniff. there’s only a hint of vanilla to keep it warm and sweet but not juvenile. it’s quite simple and linear, if we exclude the terrible alcohol opening that luckily disappears after a minute or so. the only flaw is such a disappointing sillage and longetivity. if somebody knows a scent similar to this one with a more power to it do let us know! until then we can only hope for an intense version of this gem.
EDIT: to me it is nothing like hypnotic poison which has more coconuty-vanilla vibe and is sort of deeper.

  27. :

    5 out of 5

I liked it a lot, especially the opening. It is a skinscent with a whiff of some grounding-terracota feel. Still, it does remind me of Hypnotic after a while. But without the coconut extrovert splash. It’s more quiet, in a good way.

  28. :

    5 out of 5

I’m not entirely convinced they didn’t just steal the formula for Hypnotic Poison, personally 😉 identical, to my nose!

  29. :

    3 out of 5

In my opinion, Poudre is definitely reminiscent of Dior’s Hypnotic Poison, but I prefer this. It’s seems more sophisticated and softer to me. I’m not knocking HP. It was my signature in high school and while I’ll always have a soft spot for it, I find it uncomfortable to wear now. Poudre seems like it got rid of the irritating facets of HP and kept the best parts. It’s like face powder and sweet, creamy, marshmallow-y cashmere. There is also something a bit herbal that rounds out the sweetness. I love it! It also reminds me a little of Guerlain L’instant EDP. They don’t smell the same but they are in the same vein.

  30. :

Funny that people complain about the scent being too powdery. Have you not noticed the name? Of course the main note is musk/powder.
I find this very similar to Narcisso Rodriguez Poudree and it was, in fact designed by the same nose. But this is softer though and the tuberose makes this a pretty unique scent. Dry and delicate with an air of mystery.
I like that this is very soft feminine scent. Great for daytime and is inoffensive enough to wear to work. The silage is very close to body. A very personal fragrance or for those who get very close to you. Not very long lasting though. When i bought the bottle I was also given several of the sample sizes which I keep in my purse and I have to use several times throughout day to keep the scent.

  31. :

Valentina Poudre is easily my favourite from the Valentina range. It amps up the powdery aspect of the original yet doesn’t venture into an overly complicated array of notes like the original Valentina EDP does.
Valentina Poudre is a smooth, powdery blend of iris, tonka bean and sandalwood on my skin, which wears neither sweet nor overly feminine. I agree that it does share some minute similarities with Dior’s Hypnotic Poison, especially towards the drydown where the vanilla note is most apparent.
I liken this fragrance to a warm, comforting hug. It’s the kind of fragrance you wear for yourself rather than for others around you. The sillage is quite soft on my skin, however the longevity is an impressive six to eight hours.
If you like subtle, powdery scents such as Prada’s Infusion d’Iris, Guerlain’s L’Instant de Guerlain or Love by Chloe you’ll most definitely love this powder-rich flanker. The bottle is absolutely stunning as well, something I would proudly display on my dresser if I ever happened to own a bottle.

This is a very nice scent. It reminds me a lot of Narciso Poudrée, but this one is stronger and more on the romantic side. Narciso was more of a comforting fragrance, this one is more date material. It has an intriguing feature, it is classy but at the same time atemporal. It also has a mysterious touch that allows it to be sexy without being aggressive.
Overall a nice fragrance for date nights, specially if you already are intimate with the person (or is trying to become).
I would indicate it to feminine, maternal (but mature) women.

  33. :

    5 out of 5

Tender, delicate and feminine are the first words that come to mind. The soft, powdery notes are very notable. The vanilla and tonka bean embraces them in a warm but subtile way. The sandalwood draws me in even further. This scent is made for intimacy in a non-seductive and loving way. I can see a new mother or a bridesmaid wearing this. It’s pretty powdery.

  34. :

    5 out of 5

The powder bomb. I perceive this as a realistic interpretation of makeup powder, with all of its chemical traces, enclosed within a perfect sweet vanillic aura. Quite sensual and attractive. Big love. Don’t let the strong chemical opening put you off; give the perfume few minutes to bloom.
Few reviewers are smelling (baby wipes) powder in this, but I cannot detect lilac in this. Sometimes, production batches are different from one target country to another. But I can say, this is NOT the case with my bottle. Others say it’s a soft kind of powder, but I find it too mature to be true, thanks to the almond and ambrette notes.
This is one of the classiest, romantic, feminine powder scents I’ve witnessed so far. This could work as the feminine interpretation of (Dior Homme Intense 2011) without the leather note–if it makes sense.
It’s my winter signature, because it’s feminine, ladylike, pleasant, versatile enough for daily use, and fairly long-lasting. Well-done Valentino.

Being prescient (in my own haughty opinion lol) @genevieve @cosmicscents YES we’ve arrived at the powdery era! Every house has or is going to put out powdery scents. I can only say its lovely.when i first applied it i recognized a similar fragrance from the past and i thought no not again a blind loser but i was wrong.its a lovely powdery warm comforting perfume.i keep getting wafts of powder which i love.i need to get it on bare skin to try to distinguish different notes i only managed to spray around my neck as im wearing a sweater and vest but its lovely comforting and warm iv said that twice so for me its a winner.a gentle scent ,very personal.iv had it on for 4 hrs now and its still going strong.it may be the makeup powder mentioned which i picked up at the first few sprays but if you love powdery perfumes.i love every note so i cant go wrong especially vanilla but this is not a run of the mill dept store perfume, its quite retro and stands apart.

I love this scent so much… but I’m returning it to Nordstrom (yes I splurged!) tomorrow most likely. It has NO longevity and NO sillage on me… I’m so disappointed because the fragrance is beautiful! And it was Nordstrom’s last bottle… Also it takes a LOT of sprays to get to acceptable level on my skin! Well c’est la vie. My skin often cannibalizes fragrance but never like this before! Again, it’s SO beautiful! I guess I will wait for an “intense” flanker…

I think you can love Valentino poudre even if you don’t love powdery perfumes but you must like vanilla to love it.it’s creamy and powdery at the same time and I agree that it can be a softer and powdery version of hypnotic poison.I can smell all notes.powder note that smells like makeup compact powder, powdery iris that gives more powdery makeup smell, powdery vanilla that smells like vanilla cake powder, creamy sandalwood and creamy tuberose that are like a white cream on top of our cake.Valentino poudre smells like home made diet cake with very little sugar and makeup so it smells very feminine.it’s warm and comfortable like your home’s kitchen.I like that it’s soft and very feminine.it’s warm and not very sweet.longevity is great.perfumes usually don’t stay on me more than five hours but Valentino poudre stays more than seven hours.sillage is very good too.very big, also soft.it’s good for fall and winter and even spring.it is completely different with narciso poudre that came out at the same time

    از اینها بگذریم اما ولنتینو پودری یه مورد فوق العاده خوب و باحال و با کلاس از این توناژ رایحه ست که حضور نرم و شیک وانیل در همراهی این روایح پودری و زنبقی حال کلی و زور عطر رو بیش از فرم کلاسیک به سمت فرمی مدرن و امروزی تر میبره و همین عامل باعث میشه نسبت به سایر کارهای پودری دیگه راحت تر بشه از این کار حتی به صورت روزانه بدون غرق شدن در فرم خیلی خاص و تعریف و تاکید شده یی استفاده کرد و باهاش کنار اومد و لذت برد.{ این موارد به خوبی بهش اشاره شده و یه چیزایی هم در تایید این کامنت ها احتمالا تکرار میشه}

First that I tried Valentino Poudre I couldn’t see any similarities to dior’s HP.I wanted it even before it’s release.even the idea of a modern powdery scent seems intriguing to me.classique powderys with lots of dusty flowers isn’t my thing but modern powder clouds with vanilla, heliotrope and just a slight touch of iris or violets, ummm
But something stopped me from buying it.whenever I sprayed it on a blotter,I could smell lots of lovely powdery vanilla and a touch of powdery iris, balancing vanilla’s sweetness.I love this combination but it seemed to be so bland.but finally I did it and bought a half-full bottle, glad I did
It’s first phase is all about vanilla powder, sweet but with a bitter edge thanks to iris.I think this bitterness reminds me almond of hypnotic poison.valentino Poudre is very powdery in the beginning but it’s drydown has more of a creamy texture but not as creamy as HP because it’s still covered with a sheer powdery layer
When I test Valentino Poudre on paper,I can’t pick up much of other notes but on my skin I can certainly detect a creamy blend of tuberose and sandalwood
All in all I can see similarities between this one and HP but there are also differences, the biggest one is about they’re personality.valentino Poudre is soft and it has a humble also elegant personality.it’s vanilla isn’t a childish or supersweet one by any means but it’s still mostly about vanilla,so if you don’t have a good relationship with vanilla you’d better don’t bother with it
Valentino Poudre is soothing for me.very cozy and makes me feel calm.I don’t see it suitable for clubbing or as an attention grabber but I see it great as an intimate fragrance also great for meetings or occasions that I need something smooth to make me feel comfortable or confident, such as an exam or a job interview
Longevity is great, just like the other valentino I own and love,Valentino donna.they both stay on my skin for a full day, sillage is soft but easily noticeable for others and myself
I’m starting to love this brand
    ❤❤❤❤

I had Valentina Pink and I was very curios how is pudre version.
I am so disappointed. It is so old, heavy scent… It has nothing. I mean, really in this group of perfumes there are many more interesting. I love Valentino, but this one is a BIG no from me.

I was a bit worried about Poudre as I am not a huge fan of powdery scents, but it is lovely!! it isnt a sweet suffocating powder, more a grown up balsamic scent..I truly like it! it is feminine, the base is more like soft oriental, with the balsamic edge..
I dont find it similar to HYpnotic Poison, this is more balsamic, it has a different tone..the tuberose pops through and gives it that stylish edge..all in all, so happy I got it in a swap! a winter scent for me, I would find it annoying in warm weather
It reminds me of Narciso Poudre too…although the Valentina is softer

First impression: ROOT BEER with some vanilla vodka splashed in, just for kicks. A little about me: I like Musk’s & Orientals but I despise super-sweet scents. I am looking for the perfect creamy skin-scent… And after trying this, the search is still on. This one is not a “sweet scent,” exactly… It is more of a sweet skin-scent, and quite lovely, if you’re keen on wearing vanilla root beer with a splash of vodka. 🙂
First spray is a dry, sparkling, vanilla cream soda. Sadly, no powder stays with me!! 🙁 I thought this was all about powder, but nope. It’s all root beer. The bottle is SO lovely, and the scent is very pleasant, more-so at the drydown, but I was assuming there would be more of a powder or iris fluffiness in this fragrance. No powder puff at all.
I sprayed it on my skin, in the air, even sprayed it on my clothes, & it’s the same affect, even to my husband’s nose. You know when you get rootbeer at a restaurant – you put your nose to the cup & you get that sparkli
