Description

Twilly d’Hermès is the new women’s perfume inspired by the iconic narrow silk scarves available in colorful prints. Twilly d’Hermès is developed by perfumer Christine Nagel with the desire to make an optimistic, lively and youthful fresh floral but not ordinary scent.

For this creation, the perfumer was inspired by the free, bold and unpredictable spirit of young girls. It is made of ginger, tuberose and sandalwood notes.

The fragrance is available as a 30, 50 and 85 ml Eau de Parfum.

Twilly d’Hermès was launched in 2017.

This juice is very unique to me. Zesty, boozy, citrusy, floral, lightly spicy, clean and a bit of sweet. Totally amazing. Easy to wear, all year round, a compliment getter and mood lifting for sure. It’s also quite woody at the drydown and masculine. I could easily imagine this to a man too. Not girly as its bottle. Very different from the latest fruitchullies. I am more a gourmand type but I totally adore this

I smell Lou Lou and Poison..
Leathery base with a twist of burning plastic.
Has many dimensions, it changes constantly..unbelievable..

Fun, spicy, and unique new perfume from Hermes. I really like it and it seems a bit underrated here. It is one I reach for whenever I can’t decide what to wear. Quite light-hearted but really suited to any age. It always makes me feel energetic when I wear it – it makes me happy!

This is a very nice, easy-going, casual perfume for summer. Fresh, tender, happy, modern, pleasant, inoffensive, well-blended, and even deserves some more of such positive adjectives. Ginger is not sharp here at all. I may label this one as “safe” for blind buying and gifting away.

I love this fragrance, and I get a lot of compliments when I wear it.!! Highly recommended.

I’m sampling this today, and it’s so different from anything I’ve tried recently! It smells like the fancy, high-end soap that you’d get in a 5-star hotel. Very clean, very fresh, just faintly spicy and sweet. I really like it!

I congratulate Christine Nagel for creating this beautiful, original and youthful fragrance – it is a relief to see such authentic work among today’s boring florals and pedantic gourmands. Twilly got me at the first sniff, and I fell in love with it.
The opening is very citrusy, but not in a summer way, it is an autumn citrus thanks to the great mixture with ginger. The contrast of the citrusy, spicy top notes with the white florals in the heart and sandalwood in the bottom give Twilly a daring, youthful and kind of androgynous, gender-fluid vibe. I imagine a very witty, fun and daring woman wearing it, a woman who is feminine but has a young, playful heart. Everytime I smell it I imagine a witty and rich schoolgirl getting home and playing dress up with her mother’s clothes, or a young bride riding a horse and running away from her wedding. There’s something very “rebellious rich kid” in it that I love.
That being said, this is not a fragrance for everyone. Since it’s a little bit androgynous it may not please those who are used to delicate floral-fruity fragrances. Now if you want something more daring and original, that can be worn either during the day or the evening, you definitely should get this. I got a 30ml bottle but I wish I had gotten a bigger one. I’ll definitely buy a bigger one soon.

I dont get any spice, at all. Yes I smell ginger in the beginning, but this perfume is not spicy nor is it warm. Which is fine, not every perfume smells of oud, amber, and deserts.
Starts off with lemonade-ginger. Transforms rather quickly into a soapy, fresh, clean white floral of tuberose, but more gardenia than anything. Smells slightly dewy and aquatic from the soapy and fresh florals.
Turns powdery and very dry smelling; still the gardenia-tuberose is going strong. Starts off with several notes and ends in a simple linear manner.
This smells preppy, fresh, positive, and cheerful. The sun is shining bright illuminating everyone’s faces with a smile, but it’s freezing cold outside. It’s brisk and bone dry outside that nearly cracks your hands and tightens your face, but you dont really mind since everyone is in such a good mood.

I gave this several honest tries, mainly because it really is a novel composition and was raved about in The Guide. I like it, but the combo of ginger, tuberose and sandlewood together skews very “warm” to me, almost into “spicy” territory, which I dont care for. I like my tuberouse icy and green. I do agree its not particularly feminine and certainly interesting and well made, if not my thing exactly.

I don’t get any LouLou hints (i wish), pleasant smell, I detect a lot of bitter orange, the dry down is beautiful, but it doesn’t perform well unfortunately. Its been 3 hours that I sprayed it on my wrist and its completely gone.

  12. :

    5 out of 5

Although a pleasant smell emits from my wrist, i can’t help but be reminded of both Cacharel’s LouLou and Eden, both of which I still have a great fondness for. Eden I wore, because I was gifted a bottle, back in the days of having one fume and acquiring another only when the bottle is dry, usually from my Mum for Christmas.
Twilly seems to me in the same vein of mixing aroma chemicals that could jar and are a bit too loud, but somehow, together in the mix, work in harmony.
The ginger in Twilly was far more prominent to me worn on other people. My friend tested this and every few minutes i was engulfed in a cloud of powdery sweet ginger and I was reminded of the ginger in I Want Pink.
With a lively green and ginger beginning, it then gradually morphs into something sweet, floral (tuberose?!), with an undercurrent of a quite a strong “clean” white smell, with the effect of laundry soap to my nose.
it is clean, bright, powdery and strong. but the floral in this does not smell of “flowers” to me, if that makes sense? probably not.
i am drawn to it on other people, but sprayed on my person, it somehow makes me feel uncomfortable because of the way it assaults my nose. Twilly makes its way up there and somehow remains in my nasal passage for a while, far exceeding its welcome.
if you enjoyed 1990’s white florientals, you are likely to enjoy Twilly. and if you like a bit of sweet ginger on top.

Tuberose and ginger are two notes that smell good to me, that tend to become overwhelming to me over time. Twilly is a classy and impressive combination of both. Half of the time a very summery creamy tuberose that wears far more natural than Fracas buzzes and keeps one smelling sweet. The other half of the time spicy ginger juice gives a fresh waft, cutting the thick white floral, that can cross over to smelling either matronly or sensual in a dated way. In the end I don’t feel like I have to scrub this, but as much as I love ginger I would rather consume it than smell like it. And Carnal Flower was my signature for a few years, but I can hardly wear it now, cause it’s just so intense by nature. I recommend this for lovers of intense and restrained perfumes, cause it’s fairly simple but over the top. You have to love sweet, spicy and floral, but you can’t expect too many Oriental facets, all of the intensity comes in one stroke of the brush. Twilly just doesn’t transform very much.

One of the most beautiful releases in the past few years! I was reluctant to try it because I don’t like most Hermès fragrances because of the grapefruit note they share. I only like the Eau des Merveilles series. Now this one is very different from all the Hermès I know.
A beautiful white flowers queen with a fresh spicy twist! I absolutely love tuberose but not with the typical coconut association. Too cloying. I like my tuberose to be fresh. And the ginger in Twilly does the job. The addition of orange blossom and creamy basenotes makes it the perfect fragrance to me.
A very simple fragrance actually though it brings back memories of some complex 90’s white flowers bombs as some reviews stated. No wonder I love it! But the ginger makes it really modern.

This is what you reach for when you’re not sure what to pick. Ginger blast opening, followed by a soapy floral ginger drydown then a little sandalwood in the base. Twilly was designed to target younger women, and indeed it is easy to wear, but I find my middle aged friends (40-60 yrs) are enjoying this perfume.
Hat tip to the cute Charlie Chaplin cap. If you like ginger, this one is for you. Sample is from Hermes. It’s not in my collection yet but it will be soon.

I love love love love….this fragrance. I find the addition of ginger (warm and spicy like ginger biscuit) to tuberose and sandalwood so inviting. I purchased this blind after reading about its ginger notes. I’m really pleased, it is warm and inviting and lasts for ages. It is great on the inside of a jumper in the wintertime. Bliss.
I like this more and more.

The first moments I sprayed it on, I really liked it! I thought, yeah, maybe here is a fragrance I can wear daily at daytime. At the same time I had another fragrance tested on the other arm (Black Opium Floral Shock). While in the beginning the Opium seemed to be too much, too strong, and Twilly light and wearable, it soon changed completely. Twilly became stronger and stronger as the time passed while Opium settled down to a mellow Vanilla/faint floral scent.
When I came home I had to wash Twilly off. It is too masculine for me, and mind you, I have no problem wearing masculine scents…
All in all, a big surprise for the negative I am afraid. But people who love stronger, unisex scents are sure to like it! This is not a fragrance to blind buy.

I like it a lot. The fragrance is simple, but that’s its beauty. It smells like windy beach and waves, it’s careless and so beautiful. It lasts long enough, when delicately sprayed on the skin. For me about 4-5 hours. I need to have it for the summer. I’m also curious how will it smell in colder weather.

  21. :

@Imwimsatt: it’s probably the sandalwood giving off a powdery vibe to folks (it smells powdery to me in some fragrances depending on how much is used and how it’s blended in with the rest of the composition).

Not being a fan of ginger, I didn’t have high hopes for this one… that said, I have thoroughly enjoyed sampling this spicy little beauty-
Linear, unisex and woody, with potency/longevity to die for-
This would be a wonderful autumn scent, imo-

Twilly was kind of an impulse buy for me. I originally went into the store for Elie Saabs Girl of Now because I adore that gourmand marzipan note I get from it. However it is the middle of summer and I second guessed how much use I would get out of Girl of Now in the midsummer heat. I had Twilly on my radar because of the cute bottle I saw in advertisements and because I enjoy the leather accessories of Hermes. When I tried it on that immensely hot July day I was immediately impressed with that feeling of refreshment that washed over me after smelling it. It made me forget about the heat and reminded me of the smell of expensive soap and that wonderful feeling you get after a cold shower on a hot day. I happily took Twilly home with me that day. The next day I wore it around my boyfriend for the first time. He hated it so much I went and took it off. It gave him a pounding headache. And that doesn’t happen a lot. His favorite scents on me are Dior Addict and Prada Candy so it’s not that Twilly is too overpowering for him. It’s on of the notes in Twilly that apparently aren’t for everyone. So definitely not a blind buy. However I still enjoy it and will wear it throughout the summer whenever my boyfriend isn’t around.

It smells also smokey/incensy on me. I love it. Has a classic quality but without the sobriety that most classics have.

I had very high hopes for Twilly. White Floral + Fresh Spicy sounded great! I love tuberose and ginger. Vanilla and sandalwood are hard to mess up. Bergamot should add a freshness to the top. The stars seemed to be aligning with this fragrance.
If this were a hot sauce, it would be ketchup. Where is the spice? This is so muted and powdery on me. I don’t get a fresh, sharp ginger smell and I’m so disappointed. I don’t get any creamy tuberose either.
All in all, this smells pretty masculine to me. That’s not inherently a negative, but to be honest, I can’t keep the words “men’s sunscreen” out of my head every time I spray it. It’s a dead on men’s sunscreen smell to me, if that’s even a product that society has arbitrarily gendered yet..?

  27. :

I keep hearing this smells powdery to some people. I don’t think it does, but I wonder which note from the pyramid could contribute to that

I just got a sample from Sephora, and it’s full of ginger, with powdery tuberose, orange, vanilla, and sandalwood. I’m a big fan of fresh ginger in food preparation, so I quite like this Twilly fragrance. Twilly reminds me of Yosh Ginger Ciao.

  29. :

Sometimes I really should trust “categories.” This was labeled “powdery floral,” but I’ve seen that label misapplied before (looking at you, lovely Chloé Eau de Parfum by Chloé). I should have trusted it here. The ginger is barely on my skin – otherwise it’s a powdery throwback to the 80s and 90s. If that’s your thing, go ahead. Me… I should probably stick to the citruses my skin likes so much.

Twilly gett 5 stars in Perfumes: The Guide 2018 by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez.

  31. :

    4 out of 5

It used to be that Fragrantica only listed three notes for Twilly…Tuberose, ginger and sandalwood. This seemed to trigger wonderment in the review community, since the fragrance seemed like much more than the sum of its parts. Now it seems the cloke of mystery has been cast aside and the Fragrantica pyramid lists at least two of the other major players: orange blossom and jasmine. One note continues to be neglected despite playing a leading role, and that’s neroli (perhaps the orange blossom listing was thought sufficient?). So to summarise, Twilly is a big white floral with a fizzy citrus neroli opening. And an adorable bottle suitable for a princess. Yet Luca Turin lists Twilly as a 5 Star, top 10 masculine, presumably to humiliate the whole male fragrance genre (or at least the conventional and now out-of-fashion distinction between male and female fragrances) and generate some publicity. It’s a 3 out of 5 for me and a nice sunny day fragrance I would appreciate on my wife.

  32. :

I like the ginger, but not with the floral. Cool concept though; I can definitely tell that the two notes merge together.

  33. :

    3 out of 5

I’m not crazy about the tuberose in this. The ginger is interesting. It doesn’t perform the way you expect it to – this isn’t hot or spicy. This is a smooth, creamy sandalwood / white floral perfume with a touch of neutered ginger.

  34. :

    5 out of 5

I sampled this one in my quest to become less of a hater of mainstream perfumes. The concept was intriguing enough, and the opening certainly is lovely, with a delicious effervescence akin to sucking on those sugar-coated ginger candies.
As with most mainstream frags, though, this one immediately comes apart on my skin to reveal a scratchy, headache-inducing synthetic base – within ten minutes, all I can detect are rubbing alcohol (iso-e, anyone?), a “powdery” aromachemical (it’s not ethyl maltol, but it’s similar in texture), and the generic blond woods and musks that are currently plaguing the base of just about every mainstream release.
This was certainly a nice try, but as with most mainstream releases, the base is simply a cheaply assembled afterthought. Oh well.

  35. :

    Love the bottle!
Sadly don’t like the scent. I found it screechy and headache inducing and rather chemical. Certain white florals get up my nose and claw at my brain. Sorry about the bad report.
I had Jour d’ Hermes and found them not similar in the least. Jour is earthy somewhat bitter and this is straight up tuberose+ ginger tea stirred with a wooden spoon. No citrus to my nose. Ah well.

  36. :

It’s Hermes-y indeed but not as hard
has a softness that keeps up with the
times while holding on to ôld fashion&
    classic spicy goodness. comforting &
warm. Reminds me of Jil Sander’s no.4
but this AMAZING cardamom that makes
me DROOL, but then dries down to an airy
goodness that makes it suitable for summer
evenings. Good to wear when alone too 🙂
Has this definite hay note Quintessential of
Hermes which reminds of eQuestrian scene

This is LouLou Cacharel and Amarige from the past blended together with some ginger on top. Go figure.

  38. :

    5 out of 5

This one has a nauseating effect on me right away which is so sad! The bottle is cute. I don’t think I can bear tuberose + ginger. Too cloying for me. I had to wash it off immediately.
I see it’s been compared to both LouLou and Amarige both of those are big no-nos for me.

  39. :

    5 out of 5

This opens very similar to lou lou from Chacharel and ends in something like la vie est belle from Lancome or Si from Armani. Why the market need this mess? It smells unpleasant, familiar, without an idea, even if I am a big fan of Christine Nagel (Mauboussin pour femme, lalique encre noire pour elle, Narcisso Rodriguez for her).

  40. :

    5 out of 5

First minutes: light “aniseedy” tuberose (aniseedy like in La Chasse Aux Papillions) + powdery iris, slightly chemical but nice.
After half an hour: + something from the past… there is “Big Red” bubble gum! (cinnamon)
After couple of hours: base notes remind me a little bit JPG Classique (powdery, vanillic, with neroli note)

  41. :

    3 out of 5

The scents of this frag is rather unusual to my nose and on my skin. I enjoy tuberose a lot in many fragrances (intense and light) but not “spicy” as I experienced with this one (probably because of the ginger note). I’m just not used to it yet. It has however a fresh and lighter dose of white flowers compared to other big and bold floral fragrances. If you are looking for something DIFFERENT, stepping out of the tradition a little bit, this Twilly might be one of those.

  42. :

    4 out of 5

I have recently smelled Twilly side by side with Jour d’Hermes Absolu on skin and they are clearly cousins. I felt like you don’t need one if you have the other. Twilly is a one mighty powerhouse, succulent and tart, loud, boyish, probably great for outdoors. Verdict: I might get me a JdHA one day and I certainly don’t need Twilly, but I’d enjoy smelling it in passing on the street.

Perfect after the shower and before sleep time !

  44. :

This is my first day wearing this so my opinion hasn’t had much time to develop yet. But if someone had described this to me as a woody/spicy white floral I would have thought they had their perfumes mixed up. On me this smells a lot like the gourmands I’ve tried. The vanilla and ginger combo must be coming through particularly strong on me. In fact the first spray of it reminded me a lot of cinnamon-sugar.

  45. :

    5 out of 5

This is the first Hermes fragrance I’ve ever tried and I am loving it. This is one spicy tuberose! There is lots of ginger and citrus in the opening. The citrus fades but the ginger is persistent. The tuberose is delicate and creamy and the dry down is soft and powdery woods. This is a very impressive and unique scent. Super cute bottle too!

  46. :

    4 out of 5

citrus in the top that quickly burns off then what remains is a unique floral that smells to me like lots of iris, frangipane, and maybe orchid with a hint of vanilla and some sandalwood; it is lovely but soft and not long-lasting like all Hermes on my skin

I obtained a sample vial of TWILLY back in December. The first time I wore it, I found the initial phase to be very fresh and springlike, and I particularly liked the zingy ginger notes. After a couple of hours, the ginger notes faded and I found the rest of the progression to be pleasant, but similar to some other fragrances that I already have. Because of the springlike vibe, I decided to save the rest of the vial for warmer weather.
Yesterday, I did a second wearing and I was very disappointed to discover that the initial ginger notes had vanished. I tried it again today to make sure that my nose hadn’t been confused yesterday, but the ginger is still missing. This may be due to the fact that I have a sample vial and not a regular bottle, although the vial is glass and has a stopper with a spray mechanism.
Other than the initial phase (which I no longer have access to), I find TWILLY to be pleasant, but without the ginger notes it doesn’t seem particularly interesting to me. There are some nice floral notes and a bit of citrus. After a few hours it becomes powdery and on me, develops something of a musky note, which is not listed. I don’t pick up much of the sandalwood, which is unfortunate as that’s one of my favorite scents. Sillage is on the lower side of moderate and longevity is excellent.

I recently received a 2ml sample from Hermès and as soon as I sprayed my wrist I was pleasantly suprised! My first thoughts were of a carnival not the food as in sweet but the lights, energy and the whole atmosphere of a bustling carnival.
It’s not a must have were I would drop everything and buy a full sized bottle but I do really enjoy it and will use every drop of my vial. As I’m smelling my wrist as it has settled I smell ginger, orange blossom, vanilla and a touch of tuber rose and a little soapy but in a nice way.
It is not an offensive fragrance and I could see anyone wearing this.
Twilly is definitely a daytime scent IMO (I like heavy scents for night wear)
As for seasons I see it as more a summer or spring scent but it’s autumn atm and I’m still enjoying it.
    Finals thoughts?
Twilly is a very pleasant feminine pretty scent I picture a beautiful girl in a yellow? sundress walking through a carnival on a hot summers day enjoying life (cheesy? Perhaps)

Wow)) I even didn’t suppose I can like it.. The fragrance is stiil very simple, but has a twist!

  50. :

This is some sassy perfume! I love it
Powdery, floral and yet spicy enough to break the cliche of a tuberose fragrance.
I’m a guy and I wish male fragrances in general were as fun and complex as Tilly.
Jump out of the boring, safe perfumes. Go for the unexpected. Go for it!

  51. :

I just recently got the full size bottle of this after testing out the sample for a while. I really like this. On me this is a very fresh, soapy (like dove soap), ginger fragrance, with some spiciness to it. Its definitely more mild and mannered compared to other fragrances in my collection; however that is why I like it. It is an easy grab and go every day scent. Bonus points for the cute bottle and package.

  52. :

I’m wearing this with secret genius right now, which is a white chocolate scented perfume. I’m definitely feeling like a secret genius right now. This perfume was made to be layered with gourmands.

  53. :

    3 out of 5

I’ll admit I was drawn to the bottle design first, but I’m really glad I went ahead and got myself a medium sized bottle on offer.
On first spritz I get quite intense ginger, almost peppery. Within half an hour it develops a powdery subtle sweetness on me.
It’s been 6 hours now that I’ve applied it on my wrists and the powdery aspect has gone down a bit. Instead the perception of it tilts between clear Sandalwood and soft sweet ginger (almost like ginger candy) and a slight floral note.
It’s a total energized feel good kind of scent.
This impression is based on dry German spring weather 10° to 20° Celsius (or 50 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit).
I’m praying I’ll still like it as much in my actual place of residence in hot humid Mumbai. We’ll see. So far I’m loving it.

  54. :

    3 out of 5

Love the packaging but hate the scent. The only thing i smell is a buttery ginger, almost rancid. I don’t like it at all.

  55. :

    5 out of 5

Well it s very simple and beautifull. But it s a little boring. Some how like ange ou demon le secret. Boring :/

  56. :

    5 out of 5

Looking at the notes, I was sure I wouldn’t care for this, but it surprised me. I get mostly heady tuberose at the beginning, laced with ginger. It stays this way for quite some time. The ginger almost overpowers the white florals, but tuberose says “Hey now, I’m in charge!” and takes over. As it’s drying, I start getting the sandalwood mixed in. I get some sweetness from the tuberose while the ginger keeps it balanced with spice. I do get a pinch of orange blossom as it’s settling. The sandalwood helps warm it up and brings in some creaminess.
I find it very youthful, energizing and playful. It smells of spring and happiness! I think it’s very girly too, as other reviewers have noted.
Sillage starts off moderate then settles to a skin scent. Longevity is around 5-6 hours on my skin. I bought the body lotion to match it and to give it a bit more oomph. Overall, I’m really pleased with Hermes Twilly!

  57. :

    4 out of 5

I really like this. It’s very pretty! However this smells almost just like something I already own: Givenchy Ange Ou Demon. I can’t justify buying a whole bottle for that reason. The lasting power is pretty incredible with this though and again, much like AOD it is timeless, ageless, gorgeous.

  58. :

    3 out of 5

This is so weird but so good. I get creamy, spicy and citrus all at once, and nothing overplays or overshadows anything. You have to search for a note to pick it up; it’s very well blended. I get a really nice, warm, comforting mix of white florals, white musk, a touch of citrus and an aromatic wood/incense/maybe spices?/leather? And it leaves a skin-warmed trail. Imagine the dry downs of many expensive powdery perfumes—that trail that they leave behind on a cashmere scarf or perhaps hair: that’s exactly what this smells like the whole way through. It’s unique, beautiful and signature worthy. The bottle is ADORABLE by the way. Not a blind buy; test first though since it is pretty unique and might be off putting to the fruity-gourmand lovers.

I didn’t know this was the scent of the woman sitting in front of me on the TGV to Paris. I had a feeling then and there that it might be a creation of Christine Nagel (my favourite perfume is Eau des Merveilles Bleue).
Then I got myself a sample. I expected more ginger and freshness from Twilly, but on my skin, it gets creamy and sweet, with a touch of green. It’s a mix of jasmine, almonds and a hint of freshly cut grass. I don’t usually like florals, and this one is not for me, either.
While Eau des Merveilles Bleue invites the spirit to roam the wild, scenic coasts of Scotland, Ireland or Brittany, Twilly proposes to spend a sunny spring afternoon in a beautiful, well-groomed park in the middle of an elegant metropolis.
Very feminine and polished. Too much so, for my taste.
I prefer those windy Celtic shores.

Didn’t appreciate this perfume at first but now I’m crazy in love with Twilly! It smells fresh, sophisticated and sexy, yet clean and creamy at the same time. It reminds me of an expensive vintage soap bar somehow – in a good way! I get so many compliments when I wear Twilly, and even though you don’t smell it on yourself after 3-5 hours, everybody else smell it! Sprayed it before work at 12 pm, and someone commented my perfume at 12 am and said: “Wow, you wear a lot of perfume!!” Maybe it was the rain that woke up the scent on my skin and my hair, but, well, it lasts for about 12 hours apparently, maybe even longer. I find it very unique on my skin. It smells wonderful.

I think it must be the ginger spiceness of this fragrance that makes me reach for it as often as I do. I just love it. I never fail to get “Oh, you smell so good!” from people I hug when I wear it.

I’ve been holding off on writing a review of Twilly and am still not quite sure I can define exactly what it is about this fine, fine mist that entrances me when I pick it up from time to time to wear. But I’ll try, bear with me, please, this is a rambly one and I hope I get the point I’m trying to make across!
For all intents and purposes, yes Twilly is a functionally brilliantly executed perfume to not only introduce Christine Nagel’s presence at Hermes but also to rival (and in my opinion totally eclipse its contemporary peers also specifically geared towards ensnaring the noses and purse strings of a younger market) Mon Guerlain and Gabrielle which, although individually are lovely perfumes (if you like lavender tweaked vanilla or grapefruit body spray in expensive packaging, hell, I know I do), do not to my humble and wonky nose possess the classic beauty of Twilly.
Twilly is not a fly by night newbie, nor do I think she (or perhaps a dandy he) should be definitively constrained by marketing ploys to young girls. This is for young girls, old girls, girls in between and their whatever friends. Twilly is a modern classic (officially declared over a drink by myself and another fumehead the other night, thus it is so, Zarathustra), a sparkling and joyous ode to ginger and tuberose with oranges both bitter and blossom to flesh it all out. I think it’s the bitter orange here which does it for me, keeps the livelier notes from bouncing off the walls and tightens it all up – with heady tuberose, bitter orange takes the mood from oh you sexy thing to lets talk about serious work stuff then the ginger says, nup, back to the bar with you all, let’s have a limey cocktail and dance!
I think the thing I adore the most about Twilly is that Nagel has managed somehow to capture the best parts of tuberose, its sultriness steps up to play in its finest emanation of itself with these companions, somehow gently restrained (never thought I’d say that about tuberose), not drenching the other notes. Christine Nagel’s done the same thing with ginger; it’s the gentle addition of spice to a dish to give it that mouth tingling quality which leaves you satisfied yet completely desiring to try it again. Lickably good, it lingers in the memory. (Just an aside, I suspect lovers of Chanel No 5 will adore this as a great great grandmother adores her fairy goddaughter). The similar notes tossed around, restructured and while the sandalwood takes a backseat to bitter orangey tuberose and ginger here, adds creaminess).
A delicately, deliciously composed balancing act which manages to be completely new yet retain just a whiff of Ellena’s signature in there too somehow, drawing a respectful, thoughtful and elegant thread between the two brilliant noses. Line this up next to Sur Le Nil for comparison and the heady citrus yet fresh compositions are akin (and I do mean compositions, not the scents themselves). Try it, you’ll see what I mean, promise! I hope this is a long stay keeper for Hermes. Brilliant and really, really clever. Twilly I adore you.

This is lovely, the staying power and projection are great, it’s powdery but not to much, it’s just right. It smells very mature but not so much that a young girl can’t wear it. Great for night and day and smells expensive. Very impressed.

I expected something more fun from this cute bottle. It mostly smells like freshly cut ginger, with a little flowery ‘decoration’ and a bit of orange. Still… mostly ginger. Very boring. Un Jardin Apres le Mousson is a far better ginger perfume than this.

Overall,I am very disappointed with Twilly. It’s taken me this long to try it, so it’s not like I was anticipating anything life-changing, but I thought it would at least tempt me. I tested this on my skin and on test strips all day yesterday. I say “all day” because I attempted to have this as my scent of the day, but by the time I sprayed it in Sephora then walked to meet my friends for lunch, there was no fragrance left to be enjoyed. If I put my nose against my skin and sniffed I could smell it, a little, but no one else could. I put two heavily doused scent strips in my handbag. The fragrance lasted longer on them, but, today there is no scent left on them at all. I realize that the Tester at Sephora could have been sitting on the shelves for months, and, in this dry, hot climate, it could have “turned”. So I will surely give Twilly another run in the future. Twilly’s bottle reminds me of Avon Miss Lollypop, circa 1970-something. While that bottle was cute in its day, as a children’s fragrance, Twilly
