Description

The new series from Six Scents perfume, Six Scents Series Three, brings together prominent perfumers and designers again, in order to provide an olfactory interpretation revolving around the main theme. Precious childhood memories are in the focus this year. The rising design stars: Alexis Mabille, Mary Katrantzou, Junn.J, Rad Hourani, N. Hoolywood, and Ohne Titel, are paired with perfumers from Givaudan house. The collection consists of six fragrances, associated with the name of one of the artists.

“We choose the rising stars of the fashion industry who will one day be big enough to have their own fragrance but who are too small to have it just yet. So we steal from the future and offer it now.” – Joseph Quartana, Six Scents Parfums Co-Founder & Collection Curator

Six Scents Series Three includes the following fragrances:

1. Alex Mabille Beau Bow

2. Mary Katrantzou Trompe L’Oleil

3. Junn.J Can’t Smell Fear

I could care less about who the designer is for this fragrance as well as the “artists” . . . I tried this in Lisbon, Portugal at a discount clothing sale and the only reason I did not buy it is because my wife did not like it.
It’s scent reminds me of a slightly sweetened, smokey, peaty 18 Year Old Lagavulin Single Malt Scotch. I spritzed a bit on my wrist and have not been to resist smelling it . . . enchanting . . .love it! If this is your thing, you must give it a try!

While I like / love most of the avant-garde fashion designers involved with the Six Scents series, I can’t say I’m a fan of this line. Most of the fragrances I tried in this range have been more or less letdowns to say the least. I usually tend to appreciate modernity when it’s paired to inventiveness and courage but when it’s simply soulless, sort of aseptic and basically based all around aesthetic and packaging, tends to bore me within seconds.
With that said “Can’t smell fear” is a spicy-woody leather with a remarkable ambrette note. Nice but too “trendy” as in lacking substance. It flew somehow under the radar and I’m honestly not surprised.
Too bad because with such great artists involved such as Damir Doma, Boris Bidjan Saberi, Juun J, Bernhard Willhelm (to name only a few), Six Scents could have been the ultimate avant-garde perfumery project. Well, for the most part it’s not.
