This is a beautiful scent. I have a small decant of this and if I can ever get my paws on a FB I will not hesitate. This is what I would describe as a sweet oriental-gourmand but very wearable not at all cloying or overwhelming. All the notes blend so well together and everything just works. There is a beautiful balance here, I highly recommend to fans of gourmands and orientals, this is the best of both worlds.

My Shanghai arrived today,I’ve been wanting to buy this for ages, so excited to open it and spray, as I did, I tried not to sniff it immediately, but I kinda did and I thought “Oh no, what did I buy blind this time”…..
In saying this, I ignored my arm for 10mins or so, then went back for a sniff and I have to say Shanghai developed into a really lovely oriental that I am very pleased I purchased.
Sweet, warm and mellow cinnamon, touches of silky jasmine, glowing amber, smooth magnolia and heightened with patchouli. This is good perfume for those who love a rich, deep oriental fragrance. Is a sexy and mature scent, to be worn with confidence, especially in the evening.
I will be buying this again soon, as I have now added it to my wear often frags. Love this heaps..x

My comments are nearly identical to lyndsey12’s – except that I’ve not smelled the M&S interpretation 🙂
Shanghai is intoxicating, not cloying as it warms on skin. The normally citrus opening of bergamot has got to be tempered by the smidge of green apple(and it’s more of a perception than picking out the green apple note).
This Cinnamon note is very shy on me, I can’t pick it out. As it dries down the osmanthus and deep plum come out and of course, the PATCHOULI waved hello as soon as the spray left the nozzle. The base is an Ok woodsy amber- not as exciting as the transition between top and mid.
As noted by many, a beautiful bottle- the weight of it and feel of the glass in your palm is lovely and satisfying. The cap to me is not as nice as the bottle. One of the plastic appendages broke off soon after purchase.
Overall, a big positive for a grownup fruity floral that transitions well from day to night.
One note about the juice, which is gorgeous red color. Avoid clothes spraying with this one- might stain.

I bought this unsniffed, but I am pleasantly surprised, it is a lovely rich oriental with a bit of sweetness which I love. Good silage and longetivity still going strong after 4hrs for me. I am sure M & S did a copy of this a few years ago, because this smells almost identical to it. Would recommend this beauty, especially to brighten up an autumn/winter day, although could also be worn evening times.

Crisp fruity notes with a soapy floral in there somewhere. It’s not as warm on me as the other reviewers experienced, but it’s nice. In the end though, it’s very like the other fruity florals out there and I’m left loving the bottle more than the juice. But, Oh, I LOVE this bottle!

A nice oriental! And it did have some real touch of Chinese character–tender and passion-hided, which is not often seen in oriental frags.
At first sniff it’s a powdery pink floral notes, but when I spray, it turns into more fuirty. I get the sweetness of apricot and plum. Cinnamon in the openning is well-balanced with fruity-floral heart notes, very smooth and soft, like the silky feeling.

Beautiful oriental. I used to get so many compliments when I wore it. Men and women would approach me and ask me what I was wearing.
