Nice synthetic rose once it settles a bit. Like previous reviews the opening is a bit full on I detected a raspberry note. The spicy middle is nice but the Rose lingers all the way through. My partner loves this on me and I have had a few comments away from the home. Great for winter but I am disappointed with the longevity which very much contrasts to that strong opening. I could not really detect any significant Oud just a musty spice. Overall good value but terrible looking bottle.

@natalie.marie … i totally disagree with you in terms that this is feminine stuff !
A man can easily wear it and pull it nicely but is only good for cool nights or winters .

I love this!!! Very Feminine, although not TOOOO much so, so that a man could not wear it. I think anyone can wear what they think smells good ,..anyone. Man, Woman, 12 Y/0, 100 Y/0… to think otherwise is discriminatory to me. It does remind me of the Bond 9’s with oud, but has more leather in it than any of those I’ve experienced, which is a PLUS for me. I love Tom Ford’s Ombre Leather 16 & hate Tuscan Leather to give you an example of the leathers I like, which this one has. As far as Rose/Ouds, I bought samples of Calligraphy Rose, that I could not stand. TOO powdery. If you like that one, just get Clinique’s Beyond Rose, same thing, better price. Jo Malone’s Incensey Ouds are great, but lack strength & longevity, & this one has it! I oversprayed & I felt a slight burn on my skin, but that’s my fault. It didn’t happen when I used it like a sane person. There’s some serious stuff in this bottle & I need MORE!!! Armaf kills it with this one, Their Coco Mademoiselle dupe & their TF Noir de Noir dupe, which I own & have turned MANY people onto, even Youtubers that didn’t even give me a shout out when they bought it & reviewed it after I told them~! Who cares Demi, not me! This is Leather, then Oud, then Rose. Wonderful! But you must like expensive handbag leather, or this is not for you. I read reviews with the “Cheap” smell comments. I think that’s in their head. I’d take one bottle of this over 100 bottles of Calligraphy Rose any day of the week. Nothing about it smells cheap. Thank god they left the powder out of it, that is what would make this one smell cheap. 😉 Natalie N on Youtube

This is a curious one on me.
Wearing it now and I’ve used it a number of times over the last week.
As I write I’m on a break at work. It’s 1am and I applied it at 5.30pm. It’s still going strong. I work in a foundry and it’s been a heavy shift so there’s no performance gripes for me.
It doesn’t project massively but it really does last.
Quite linear, it doesn’t change a drastic amount.
I know some people will tear me apart for saying this but it reminds me very much of my beloved Jacques Bogart One Man Show Ruby Edition.
This is what I get out of this at least.
Not in the slightest woody in the way I recognise woody (Claude Montana Graphite is one reference point).
Occasionally I’ll get a slight whiff of something like Black XS Iggy Pop.
A little sweet fruit and a touch of leather.
Blind buy cheapies can be hit and miss. This one is definitely a hit for me and I’ll be wearing it a lot over the approaching cooler weather.

Shades Wood smells like the initial Opening of Perry Ellis Saffrom Rose Absolute that never transitions into any Spices.
Its just leathery Saffron & Muted Rose…

This is the best oud fragrance I have. The opening is a bit strange and chemical. I like it, but I kind of hope nobody will walk in right after I’ve sprayed it on. But it rather quickly gets to something very interesting and pleasant and masculine. Rose, sweet oud, leather, and, well, it is complex. Kind of addictive.

Armaf Shades Wood does show it’s bigger faults upfront, and hide the interesting stuff just a bit behind.
Smells a bit like the shopping mall near my workplace. Rose, oud, cloves. It is a poor shopping mall just as this fragrance, but despite that, Shades Wood is still interesting, just like the anynomous people in that shopping mall. (Yeah, I love that shopping mall, only local business, nice people, no big chains, no brand at all.)
Unfortunatly, I was looking for some entry level rose&oud combo and then go further from there. But this scent got me away from oud for quite sometimes. Now that i’ve smelled real good oud in some fragrances, I can tell this resinous wood is absolutly royal, still not exactly my kind of stuff, but im getting there.
Problem here is… The rose and the oud wood. You can’t make cheap rose. You cant make cheap oud. That’s it. You cannot get away with cheap rose and oud. My nose is more trained with rose and damn…
Still, it’s not completly devoid of qualities. First of all, it’s not expensive. It’s not like they are trying to make you believe you’ll get the real deal. It’s not nauseous to my nose as some people say, to me, it’s more like an average fragrance. I like to smell it, and it kinda develops on your skin, for the better or for the worst, it’s your choice. There are other interesting wood notes there and the cloves makes it bitter which I like. You might even get agrumes and a whiff of sandalwood.
I just dont like the fact that it is tagged as an arabic fragrance. Of course it is, but arabic culture deserves so much more. It’s not a good representation of quality considering arabian standards of perfumery.
I have very mixed feelings about this scent, it’s really pushing foward it’s notes of rose and oud which are of lesser qualities, but the story that develops behind with the other notes is much more interesting, but hidden by that wall of rose and oud.
    Thanks for reading my review!

I’ve never wanted to wash a fragrance off my skin so bad. Wow.
A few things that come to mind: nausea, cheap chemicals, poorly mixed, suffocation by dense cloud of horrible-ness, radioactive isotopes and green clouds of gas, the stink of uranium, robot blood, synthetic mess, etc. etc.
Stay away from this bomb of …I don’t even know what. Like, I literally feel sick to my stomach right now, thinking about this fragrance.
    #kindofgross (I’m sorry).

All i can say is that this smell is addicting, at first it does smell like mosquito repellent but give it some minutes and it will be gone and the it is when the magic comes out.. nice sweet rose mixed with some wood, i couldn’t stop smelling my hand all the time, i even put it on at night before going to bed,
    performance is very good.
    projection and sillage are great.

  10. :

    4 out of 5

After some years I tried it again. OK, I could wear it if I hadn’t strong nausea from the smell. I think it’s from the poor quality chemicals which are used to this Armaf.
And guys.. it has very heavy sillage and projection but NOT GREAT longevity. It’s moderate.
And please stop the comparison with high end niche if you don’t have experiences. This is not the case. Completely different vibe & feeling. This is cheap chemicals. This is NOT niche by any means. This is a low quality ORIENTAL scent, this is why the average western nose find it “niche” because we are not used to this kind of scents.
Do you want a comparison side by side? Try Fakhama by The Spirit of Dubai house which is similar with that Armaf. Feel them. The difference is huuuge. I’m planning to buy this oriental gem. Quality do matters a lot in fragrances. Sometimes you pay what you get and hardcore oriental scents are very complex compositions which need time to evaluate them.

This reminds me of Montale Black Aoud, but not in a good way. Black Aoud is so much more classy and dark. This is just too cloying to be honest. I sprayed once on my wrist and it sorta filled the whole room with the smell of fermenting rose petals. I don’t know how else to put it. I don’t smell wood at all in the opening. Maybe I will in the dry down, but it is already giving me a headache.
This was a blind buy after watching Babb’s collection review. Holy smokes, I don’t know what’s up with that guy. He was going crazy over it. I thought it couldn’t be that bad. Big mistake.
Don’t get me wrong. If you are into super beast mode fragrances and like all the attention (good or bad), by all means go for it. For anyone else, this might be a little too much.
I might have to keep it as the seller on Amazon wouldn’t accept returns. But I doubt I’m going to reach for it any time soon. And even if I do, I’m never spraying it anywhere close to the neck or chest. I feel like it’ll choke me to death. It’s that potent. I’d say one spray on each wrist is enough. Even that might be cloying enough to drive people away. So yeah, exercise caution with this juice.

This fragrance is not suitable for Indian weather very harsh and extrovert, also I get Sheesh parlor feeling, its an unique fragrance and good for fragrance collector.

If you like Aramis Calligraphy then you will like shades wood for sure. Very luxurious scent but definitely not for everyone.
not very long lasting at all for me though. not the same longetivity or richness of the real aramis calligraphy.

  16. :

I really liked everything about this scent! Except for the cumin…
The cumin note is extremely accurate. It’s very bitter and reminiscent of food, which totally killed this scent for me, personally.
That aside – the rose note is amazing and waxy in the best way. The oud is spectacular! It’s because of this scent that I found an appreciation for oud, and because of this scent that I went searching for rose and oud scents, both together and separately.
So, while I couldn’t wear this one often myself, I will say it is good and give credit where credit is due, because this is a niche level fragrance in every aspect at a budget level price. Furthermore, the bottle I had performed VERY well. Beastly performance with only 2 sprays and lasted for 12+ hours, easily. I’m surprised to see the inconsistencies with performance, as that was not my experience!

This is a weird scent for men. To me, it smells like sour cherry mixed with leather where the leather is more dominant. In the initial 30 minutes, it smells synthetic and reminds me of Ted Lapidus Black soul imperial but the dry down is completely different. I do enjoy the dry down I must say and it could be a good choice for the younger crew in particular during colder winter days.

All I can say is Wow, WOw, WOW… this is awesome stuff, a rose, wood and leather masterpiece. Super Niche quality for the price of a discount store cologne. Absolute recommendation for a blind buy.
I layer this with Al Haramain Excellent,(which provides a saffron and floral note) and the result is a near dead ringer for Penhaligons Halfeti (which costs 5-7 times as much). I have gotten serious compliments on this mix.

maybe the 2016 batch was better, but 2017 is a synthetic mess, gave me a headache and a nausea.

Strong powerful rose and leathery scent. Opulent & rich. If this was in a better bottle, it could sell for $300 plus. It is that good. It just proves that you do not have to be loaded with cash, to be able to wear a high class smelling fragrance. If you can get your hands on this, get it while you can. You won’t regret it.

  24. :

I love this fragrance and I’m not sure why some people seem to really hate it. To me it is great. As others have already written, it is like a slightly more masculine, woody version of Aramis Calligraphy, which is no longer available. Unlike Aramis (or the much more expensive By Kilian Rose Oud), this is a very low cost fragrance.
The reviews of the various Aramis Calligraphy fragrances (Calligraphy, Calligraphy Rose & Calligraphy Saffron) are generally very positive about those scents. And some of the most positive reviews are written by users like the celebrated and very expert Colin_Maillard.
If your idea of a good scent is 1 Million, Acqua di Gio, Aventus or Sauvage, you’re not going to like this fragrance. But if you like a mix of oud, woods, spices and floral notes, then this is a winner.
Yes it contains a rose note. No it’s not a heavy, suffocating rose note. It’s blended nicely with oud and other wood notes. It could be worn by either sex but is slightly more masculine.
I get decent longevity from this fragrance. And the projection is also good. For those who complain about the performance of this scent, I’d like to remind you that it’s dirt cheap. So reapplying from time to time won’t break the bank. I’ll continue to test when I receive my full bottle (this review is based on a decant) and will update this review if necessary.

The review of @pianist75 is one hundred percent corect.
I just receive my botlle of Armaf Shades Wood, it is made in France, in 2017, the smell is pleasent but is not a nuclear bomb in projection and sillage.
Maybe they watered down,or my expectation was to high
All in all for the money I paid is ok.
    Please excuse my poor englis.

6 sprays and yes strong opening with lots of alcohol which is bad in any case of perfumery art in my humble opinion. you guys praise this frag so much that is long lasting and projects like no other bla bla bla ! yes it does smell good but its a weak frag with no projection and longev sucks!! we dont need to talk about the price , because you pay less -you get less quality simple its that! Armaf makes weak frags and cheap clones period !! Much better i find Rasasi or Ajmal, Louis Cardin , even Swiss Arabian its a better house for the same prices or even less you get better quality for sure.
i see a lot of people exaggerating here when it comes to reviewing a cheap frag usually and i dont understand the reason why …anyway thats how the world goes around in general i guess!

For me it was a strong “clean” leather at first, which lasted perhaps half an hour (possibly less), with a touch of a sweet element that seemed to incorporate some florals and spice. After that, not much of anything. I could use my hand to waft it up to my nose, and it’s pleasant, but felt too indistinct. I used two sprays to the chest and had the first couple of buttons to my shirt open, with no undershirt, but my sensitivity has been low lately. Later, I was able to get more of the scent, and it seemed that a bit of an oud note had emerged. I think the top is so strong it has this effect on a lot of people. In any case, it’s quite nice, though not as distinct as other scents of this type, such as Calligraphy Rose. This one, however, seems far more “masculine,” with much less rose. I obtained a bottle in a swap for something I might have never worn again, so I’m not unhappy about doing it. Next time I might have to spray 4 or 5 times instead of 2, and see what happens.
UPDATE: Second wearing, I’m thinking this should be regarded mostly as a take on the Tuscan Leather theme. In fact, I might prefer this one to TL, but it isn’t as strong (from what I remember of TL). So, at least for me, this is an incredible bargain!

Some people are really unfortunate. Resellers just take advantage of them and sell them fake fragrances. Of course that any fake fragrance will smell like “stable”, “greatest joke in fragrance history”, “humbug”, “cloying and revolting and bad smelling”, and so on.
Do buy your “Shades Wood” in a trustworthy reseller!
I will just tell you a couple of words about the Shades Wood juice I ordered, received and tested:
    – Cheap price + classy scent = gigantic value!
    – Amazing niche quality oud/rose fragrance!
    – I am considering to use it on a pair with Versace’s Oud Noir and Aramis Perfume Calligraphy. Yes, Shades Wood is that good!
    – One of the best dry downs I have ever experienced with any fragrance!
    – Skip the initial 30 seconds while the alchool is evaporating. The scent is to harsh.
    My rates for Shades Wood:
    Scent:……………………8.5
    Longevity:………………9.0
    Sillage:…………………..8.5
    Versatility:………………6.0
    Uniqueness:……………8.5
    Quality:…………………..9.0

I do like beasty fragrances. It’s only natural that I like ouds. I am not a fan of airy or freshie fragrances. I can accept that a person does not like ouds in general or a particular kind of oud. However I consider ridiculous someone to comment that a fragrance smells like a stable. Either that person is not smelling an original perfume or has never been in a stable, or something is wrong with his/her pituitary.
I do consider the following type of ouds with some examples (I have all those fragrances):
    – bad ouds – Perry Ellis Vetiver Royale Absolute Oud; KELSEY BERWIN Midnight Oud
    – average ouds – Avon’s Premiere Luxe Oud .
    – nice ouds – Oudi Al Haramain Perfumes; Royal Oud Korloff Paris
    – very nice ouds – Ferrari Oud; Perry Ellis Black Vanilla Absolute; Zara Exclusive Oud;
    – really good ouds – John Varvato’s Oud; Versace’s Oud Noir; Aramis Perfume Calligraphy; Armaf’s Shades Wood; Yves Saint Laurent M7 Oud Absolut; Ettienne Aigner Nº 1 Oud; 24 Platinum Oud Edition
    – extraordinary ouds – Christian Dior Oud Ispahan.
    – the best value for money ouds – Armaf’s Shades Wood and Zara Exclusive Oud.- very good fragrances, above average quality, easy to buy, inexpensive

Its a very nicely done fragrance. It smells of niche quality to my nose. With a scent like this you can’t spray it and bury your face right into it. Spray your hand and smell it in the air..
I personally am not into rose/oud type fragrances but this one is well done. The rose doesn’t come off feminine or too perfumey.. Its nicely blended with the woody, oud and spicy nuances.. Most rose based fragrances I really don’t care for much… but this one I could actually wear. would I buy a bottle? Probably not because my taste might go elsewhere.. But I will wear my decant. Maybe I will have a change of heart. I have to say this is a pretty masculine rose..
    Scent for rose oud- 4/5
    For my taste 3-3.5/4
Performance not tested but seems good.

I noticed that at least 6 people claiming this smells like insect spray, gives you vomits, cheap scent, people who buy or like this are idiots, and so on,
DO NOT HAVE THIS FRAGRANCE IN “I HAVE” or “I HAD”
As you don’t buy this fragrance in department stores or perfume stores or in Duty Frees other than Dubai, it is easy to conclude that you must order it through the internet.
Adding 2+2=4, it is also easy to conclude that those people never smelled this fragrance and are JUST LIARS.
I also do not have it, but my husband bought it last month (through the NET).
It is an awsome fragrance !!!!!
I wonder why do people lie in this reviews.

Just one word AMAZING…. this scent brings back my nostalgia of about 20 yrs… Their use to be a body deodrant called Signet by Premium manufactured by J K helene curtis, a brand of the Raymond group back here in India. It smells just the same.. I tried almost 200 shops, online stores for that deodrant bottle but couldn’t find a bottle as they discontinued it (dont knw why)
and here it is… it was a blind buy for me.. this smells exactly the same like thay deodrant… same notes…
Amazing perfume, long lasting on my skin almost 10 hours, great dry down… all in all a great package at this price i.e. 730 indian rupess or say 12 dollars…
Thank you team armaf for making this gem

A very good Oud does not need to be expensive. That’s the case with this Armaf fragrance.
This is a top top top quality fragrance. It does not seem to be a fragrance designed by a clone oriented company. In a blind scent proof I would imagine it an exquisite perfume by an Amouage or a Kilian or a Creed or a Marly type of perfumer.
I like it very very much.
I never tried Killian’s Oud so I am not interested if they resemble or not.
(edit) – I will just state an opinion related to some very negative reviews about this fragrance; Some people just don’t know how to sniff and wear a strong oudy or woody perfume.
    – Don’t spray near the face or neck (near the nose). Use chest, wrists, fore knee, elbows …. or clothes.
    – Forget about the first 10 or 15 minutes. The food is still raw, let it cook for a while.
    – Trust what you get from the sillage effect in the first couple of hours. If you spray the back of your hand and then and then sniff it with the skin “glued” to your nose, you may get nausea and headache…
    – Want to smell it with your nose close to the skin? give the perfume 2 hours or more before doing it.
    – Want to wear it on a night out? Spray it at least one hour before leaving your home. Better 2 hours 🙂 You will be the Club King that night.
    – This is not Aqua di Gio or Versace pour Homme. Don’t use the same way you use a citrus fresh perfume.

Blind bought it. I have to say opening is very harsh. It will literally give you headache. Oudh in the opening is super synthetic and not that great. Rose in top is barely noticeable. It seems horrible in first impression.
As you give it some time….may be 15 minutes it turns into beautiful rosy oudh dark perfume. It is spicy, dark rosy and in the middle note oudh becomes so close to natural oudh I get some other woods in it. Sandalwood is sitting back silently giving it that niche texture.
Pure love for this fregrance. Feels very mature perfume age group may be 50+. I am 23 year old and I love it. Niche stuff in affordable price.

  34. :

a little thin, not woody or smoky enough or well blended but for what it is, it’ll give me some decent wear before I can afford that bottle of oud ispahan/oud palao or equivalent. i dont get very much cumin but i do get this cold mentholated vibe in the opening which was precisely why i preferred oud ispahan over any other rose oud. the extent of the spices is mostly clove, which pairs really well with that thick juicy rose. it keeps the fragrance decently sweet and offsets the oud. speaking of the oud, it is nothing as wild as the fragrances mentioned above. its the clean kind of recreation or base that mostly omits the stink which oud fans love so much. drydown leaves a lot to be desired, as it leaves on a generically woody rose note, wish there were deeper basenotes to anchor the mid/top (vetiver/vanilla/resins)
I’m enjoying this a lot, projects pretty crazy but becomes closer to the skin after the 2 hour mark so performance is kind of poor. performance issues aside, this is a really fun buy for the price!

Disappointing. I felt like they tried to mix soo many ingredients they all got discombobulated and it smells horrible. I use it in my bathroom rather than putting in the bin. It was a gift I couldn’t bare to hand over. After hours of research for certain types of fragrances and ingredients, I thought I was onto a winner with this one. Turns out it’s not for everyone. R.I.P what could have been. Lol .

starts very fruty syropy and flowers there also.
then after 10 minutes it becomes of a leather rose with powdery feeling of some fruit and flowers ….mature scent 50 year old man like.
im 37…..but such good smell i do not care at all it took me a prety long time to understand it but now when its warm weather it really shines on my skin. last good 8 hours 2 hours of projecting leaves a nice trail but not a bomb. it is uniqe….very happy to give a chance agin after 3 mounth that i buy it.

Its ok ok scent. I like rose note but not like the rose in this one. Moreover it is for mature people kinda stuff. Its not masculine either. And the main problem i get with this scent is that it does not projects until the atmosphere is warm . In chilly winters it does not projects much because of less heat . I find it to be very synthetic . The oud in this is not all soothing or feel natural . I dont know why this is hyped so much .

  41. :

    3 out of 5

I have bought it today and it smells very similar to Just Oud by Lattafa and Just Oud Boulevard by Lattafa.
This is really strong stuff, the rose note in this is very beautiful (something similar to gucci oud) BUT the oud note in this is very very very bad. Its cheap and synthetic. It is not a typical oud not even a skanky one. Its very different, you get this smell from fresh wardrobes with varnish and paint. I suspect its cheap Indian like oud. Oud note is very dominant in this and stays till the end. I dont like Just Oud by Lattafa and i dont like this one as well. May be i will try this again in winter when temp are below 5 degrees or will give it away.
Not a bad perfume I have to say but very few will like this. This is not a safe blind buy stuff neither people pleaser so dont buy based on reviews, test this stuff before buying.

This stuff is too strong and cloying and the rose note is just revolting…. The low quality oud stinks and it can make you vomit and dizzy if you apply it in summer and the other people around you would like to kick you for wearing this…. sorry but this is my honest opinion. Don’t blind buy it…

Several of the reviews below really make this one sound horrendous. Now I’m wondering if what’s in the bottle i have is actually the right juice. Because the stuff in the bottle I have is terrific! No typical rose Oud here, this is unique and has massive staying power for an EDT. I can detect the cumin note somewhere in the background and it’s a great compliment to the rest of the notes. This, to me, is far better than Aramis Calligraphy per the comparisons below. All just my opinion but I think this is a great blind buy for the ridiculously low price.

It’s not a classic rose-oud combo. In fact it is not a rose-oud combo. Whoever want the classic feeling of rose-oud combo, stay away from this. It is a very nice scent but it’s not like as you think. I’ll write a review later.
And definitely DO NOT BLIND BUY this scent..
    Update
After some years (lol) I tried again. OK, I can wear it but it brings me strong nausea. I think it’s from the cheap chemicals of that liquid.

All this praise and comparison to Christian C is all humbug. It’s an extremely cloying and revolting and bad smelling product. I can’t call it a perfume because there is nothing pleasant about it. Rose and push are overdone and it’s just a smell that gives a massive headache. Babbs has hyped the perfume and everyone is blindly following it I feel.

Deep, dark, sensual and mysterious stunner.
    Not for faint hearted.
It’s heavy, you’ll get noticed. Loved or hated.
Quality and originality wise, worth 5-10 times the price.
If you like Armani Prive Rose Di Arabie or Aqua Di Parma Colonia Intensa Oud, then it’s right up your street.
    One of my personal favorites.
Perfect for suit and ties dinner parties. A bit heavy for office.
It says hello, I’m very special, when you get introduces to people.

For me, a great blind buy!
Interesting when people say “don’t blind buy this”, then sell it on eBay! Someone bought it from them, so it’ a matter of taste. Also, best to avoid inflammatory racial stereotypes (seen below) when reviewing. Armaf are an Arabic house, making many Arabic scents as well as Western style, so if you have racist tendencies, why buy from them in the first place?
    See my review below.
Also, see Babbs review of this on YouTube.

Good reviews outweigh the bad on here and YouTube, and the likes are superlative likes, so I was up for a blind buy.
I paid £16.99 on eBay, so easily worth a blind buy gamble!
My first impression was, as it dried down, that there was something very familiar about it. I went through my collection in my head, and, voila! 95% Aramis Calligraphy! Then I remembered Syarul’s review below, and I have to agree with him wholeheartedly. It really, truly does smell so close that it would be pointless having this, and Calligraphy in your collection. If the reviews on here for this don’t satisfy your curiosity, hop over to read the reviews on Calligraphy as there are plenty on there (including mine!). BUT, Shades Wood is at least 1/4 of the price, or less.
For me, a great blind buy!
Interesting when people say “don’t blind buy this”, then sell the fragrance they hate on eBay! Someone bought it from them, so it’ a matter of taste.
Incidentally, I sold my Calligraphy as Shades Wood is so close that there was no point in keeping both.

Shades Wood is an almost linear fragrance it is made of Rose & Oud ,very mild and soft though a bit harsh at the beginning (which i liked) smells very eastern upon first spray there is Rose and Clove and when it dries down then you can get whiffs of cumin (in background) and oud , beautifuly mixed wit
