The sweet level of the opening is very high! Jammy roses are dominating and are paired with aldehydes which are not that sparkly as they usually are, a healthy dose of vanilla and a shy peony. In the base a big powdery note is intruding over the sweet rose and will take the lead into the drydown together with an abstract and synthetic floral/patchouli.
    4/10

So far, my favorite of the Ann Gerard perfume line. A sheer, fruity rose that settles in to a honeyed base which dirties it up just a bit. The rose has a similar treatment to the rose in Neela Vermier’s Mohur(also by Duchaufour)but more sheer and sans the sandalwood. It’s sweet, but not overly so, IMO. It has enough depth and personality to make it interesting to me without being a powerhouse rose. Really wearable in any weather, really.

For me this scent is fruitly- oriental. At the beginning are sappy fruit, the delicate good-humoured rose , then I feel notes as with the Opium.YSL,Yvress but more modern 🙂 ) The elegant , very interesting scent. Long lasting.. Charming.

Uncompromising rose chypre (or chypre-ish, at least), with a strong powdery, vintage vibe.
I didn’t find much patchouli in evidence, but the perfume itself is well crafted and the notes blend very effectively even if rose does dominate. It’s an example of old-school perfumery where the fragrance is more than the sum of it’s parts and binds to become a greater whole.
This is in no way a safe blind buy. So even if you are partial to the listed notes (as I am) there is no guarantee that you will like the perfume (as I didn’t).
However it is striking and distinctive and I am certain that it will find many admirers.
Incidentally the colour of this perfume is odd, too – a weird dank pinkish purple that is a very accurate visual representation of the fragrance, at least to me.

Was really anticipating this one (I love the bottle & the idea behind it) but unfortunately it is very sharp and goes sour on me. It smells sour on tester paper, and even worse on skin. I think it must be the dirty patchouli background with the sweet contrast (think someone below me said that as well). Reminds me of Angel, but not nearly as bad…
There is something compelling about it though. Seems to smell a lot nicer in very small quantities (like, just a little dab) rather than large amounts. When applied very lightly, it feels like it “sparkles” – just like a rose cut diamond! That, I think, is a HIGHLY redeeming quality and because of it, I continue to be interested and to try my sample over and over. It’s possible I might fall in love with it over time, but for now it’s not for me. People less sensitive to patchouli will have better luck with it I think.
I will add: not a safe blind buy, even if you love rose like I do. Very expensive and doesn’t necessarily smell like rose in the traditional sense.
I may try again and update if I change my mind about it..
Edit- 3 months later. I got a small decant of this (7.5mls) and I have decided that I really like this perfume. The sharpness wears off pretty quickly and it becomes a nice rose iced tea scent. I kinda want a full bottle someday 🙂

Rose cut is a very happy, luminous rose scent. I didn’t know what to expect to be honest and I was really pleasantly surprised by this one, not as deep or darkly invasive as some high quality roses but not as throwaway and lightweight as others.
It’s quite unique as far as rose goes and has a wonderful boozy and fruity quality which is sweet and almost raspberry jam like which I really enjoyed and some gentle patchouli in the drydown. Nothing dominating anything else, bright and upbeat I have to say I loved it and couldn’t stop smelling myself when wearing it.
Don’t get me wrong I found this too feminine for my tastes and couldn’t pull it off myself, still the sample came in handy to give to my friend who loves rose.
Ladies if you like roses you can’t go wrong here.

This smells like raspberry and rose jam with a touch of patchouli and vanilla thrown in. To my nose, if Malle’s Portrait of a Lady had no sandalwood, muted the incense and added in a touch of rum, it would be Rose Cut. But where POL can come across as darkly complex, Rose Cut is brighter, doesn’t take itself nearly as seriously, and is more fun.

Do not love this one. The initial smell is artificial raspberry iced tea and although it does settle down eventually, this one doesn’t quite come together on my skin. The patchouli is dirty and against the sweet background is proving to be a headache inducing mixture. This scent just doesn’t work on my skin. If you like sweet berries and pencil shavings, this might be your cup of tea. For the high price of this perfume, I would not buy a bottle.

Low profile.

the top note is just amazingly refreshing as it’s typically the virgin strawberry dacre cocktail that lasts for 1 minute max, then it calms down turned into clay sugary rose as you start to sense the coolness breeze of that mixage and it remains for a good longevity.

I ordered a decant of this from TPC and I am wondering if I received the wrong perfume. Very powdery and old fashioned smell and I can’t even locate any rose, it smells like a generalized floral with an extra dash of peony. Something in this is very disagreeable to my nose and I usually like throw back or old school type scents and am rose crazy AND love powder..but something about this isn’t working for me.
I like certain types of sweet scents but this is the type that I do not like. It makes me feel a bit woozy. Very rare that I wash something off but I had to do that with this one. Based on the notes and being by Duchaufour (and reading a review comparing it to La Fille de Berlin and Lipstick Rose) I thought I might go bonkers for it. Rose Cut smells SO differently from both of those that I am wondering if I even got the correct perfume. But then again Berlin and LR smell so differently from each other (to me) that I don’t know how one perfume could be compared to both.
I had really been anticipating this one but sadly it isn’t for me. It may just be because I am so heavily into other types of rose scents right now that I may not have been able to appreciate it as much. Or maybe because I had my heart set on a different kind of smell. I will hang on to it and try it again in cooler weather and see how it goes then.

This is a deeply beautiful fragrance. One of the more unique Duchafour’s I’ve tried, to my nose I don’t get a lot of aldehydes, but a lot of rose/peony/vanilla and booze. Sillage is more than moderate and after a few hours of wearing it is still sending wafts of gorgeous rose in a still deep drydown. Definitely on my wishlist!
