Description

Romance is a scent of romantic love and intimate moments full of joy and happiness, with an endlessly positive aura. At the beginning of the composition the notes of rose blend with citrusy oils and receive an unusual, unique melody. The pellucid flower of water lily, lily and romantic white violet give this perfume its silent grace and the spicy notes of carnation and ginger refresh. Patchouli, oakmoss and white musk finish the composition gently. The perfume was created by Harry Fremont in 1998.

    Quirky perfume:
Is it really possible that there is no mint here? Maybe it’s the lemon-ginger combination. Speaking of the fragrance:
Rosa absolute protagonist along with chamomile and this reminds me of an English garden. A successful bouquet with a rather strange arrangement: lily-fresia-lotus mix with litchi and violet (something that fragrant has not written) .The fragrance assumes an “Aqueous” form, wet. I hear everything except the patchouli or the beloved carnation.
    To my nose: STRANGE.
I like it? Yes, but there is something better.

I just ordered a big bottle of this based on the test strip that was in a magazine. It was beautiful. My 12 year old son is starting to get into fragrances and he actually says he wants to wear it. I think it is FAR too feminine but to each their own I guess.
I cannot WAIT to get this in the mail. It is so fresh smelling.

This one just plain and simple make me happy. Not complicated yet sophisticated. I have used this in 20 years now… I think I will go for 20 more. Ok silage ok longevity. Top nudge on smilies and good memories on this one. Love !
The scent is feminine, delicate and clean.
    Squeaky clean !

I used Romance with pleasure, it was fresh of citrus with a subtle presence of chamomile in the background, so delicious. I never imagined it contained carnation (love) so far I can read here, maybe now I can well recognize it among other notes.
    Great!

For Christmas last year, I received a gift set of 3 and one of the 3 was Ralph Lauren Romance. When I tell you how happy I was when I smelled this perfume oh Lord, I received the 1.0oz size and I immediately ordered the larger size from Macy’s because I love the scent so so much, it is just delightful, pleasant, long lasting, not overwhelming or overpowering. I hope they don’t ever change the notes because it is one of the most worth buying perfume out there, totally worth the price!

Romance by Ralph Lauren has not yet failed to put a smile on my face whenever I wear it – even on a gloomy day it feels like bathing in sunshine. I spritz this in the mornings, and sometimes top up with Next Just Pink during the day (actually a very good imitation of Romance – JP has just a touch more citrus/ginger fizz, whilst the original RLR has more of a floral depth and develops in subtler ways). Wearing Romance is like taking a walk along a winding path through a lush forest or country garden….at times you’ll smell the greenness of fresh dewy grass, wisps of chamomile, sweet wild flowers, subtle roses…..yet you don’t feel lost in the forest as you’re grounded by the steady path of patchouli and musk… There is a true brightness to this scent that I find dazzling, alluring and calming all at once. I think I’m in love!!! 🙂
    (Note – I just picked up a 50ml at Superdrug for £32 reduced from £60 – what a bargain!)

A note on vintage formulation: it may not age well, in my experience. I recently obtained two bottles: one 9 years old and the other 15 years old. Both have turned, though primarily within the top notes. Upon application some of this burns off after awhile but overall they sadly do not smell like MY personally bought and owned vintages. I can only assume that these recent purchases were not stored properly. Of course, neither came with a box. (Why, oh why do people discard boxes?!) I have resolved to only purchase a vintage of Romance if it comes in it’s box from now on. No guarantee that it’s not turned, but as my personal boxed collection has not turned I think it’s a safer bet.
*(The vintage forum may be a better place for this comment, but I thought it would be more accessible to those specifically interested in this scent if I posted it here).

back to 90s, simple word, i love it, spicy romantic roses and ending with a lot of musky note. (on my hand)
but roses and ginger all around when i spray it on my shirt.

This perfume may have come out in the nineties, but I can clearly see this perfume launching with 1960’s Mia Farrow as the face of the campaign. While this perfume has good longevity, it’s a gentle smell of tender florals. It isn’t particularly green on me, but I feel this scent is rendered in a manner close to nature; I always picture a field of tall grasses dotted with small flowers when I wear it. The chamomile is the most distinct note to my nose and it adds originality to the floral melange. I don’t actually smell grass and, even though I find this fragrance feminine, I don’t smell powder which seems to be perfumery shorthand for “feminine.”
Young Mia Farrow was young in a way that hasn’t existed for her fellow Americans for decades so I won’t call this youthful. I don’t put ages on perfumes generally. This fragrance is perfectly suited to the earthy-crunchy, organic granny that Mia Farrow appears to be right now. You can be tender-hearted at any age. While I have my moments, I don’t regard myself as THAT soft so this isn’t me. However, I used to teach pre-school and this perfume is perfect for that. In fact, this perfume is well-suited to any job where you work with babies, small kids, or practice the healing arts.
As I’ve been writing this, I realize that a lot has come to mind about who would like this fragrance— it’s very evocative. Romance seems like a fragrance for someone who feels that she should’ve lived in another (simpler) time even though I can’t assign the scent to a previous era. I don’t have that level of perfume history knowledge, but I also don’t think this perfume is trying to fit into a previous era. I don’t think it’s trying to persuade us of anything, seduce us, or even charm us. Romance is open to being whatever pleasant little notion you want.
Edit: I forget to mention that the juice itself could be delicate, not just its scent. My sample from Sephora quickly turned, but that could be due to their rather aggressive lighting.

Something about 1990s perfumes really grab my heart…This fragrance was gifted to me in HS. It’s absolutely beautiful and so feminine. It wore so amazingly on my skin. Romance was the first floral perfume that prompted me to buy/wear more floral scents – I was usually attached to either woody or oriental fragrances. I don’t like any of teh Romance flankers, the original is the best. I love the ginger and chamomile note in this perfume – ginger wears amazingly on the skin. Trish McCevoy’s #6 also contains ginger and it radiates a beautiful drydown in the same way Romance did. I will probably re-purchase this in the future.

ROMANCE has been around since 1998 and I’d certainly heard of it, but it had somehow escaped me until recently. It was a blind buy for me during a major sale and I snagged the last bottle on the shelf. The SA told me that ROMANCE is her favorite.
I find this one to be a decorous, yet lavish and formal floral bouquet. Oddly, for the first 20 or 30 minutes, ROMANCE doesn’t work particularly well on me and it seems as though the notes aren’t meshing together properly. Also, there’s an element during this time that seems somewhat artificial. But then, the fragrance enters the dry-down phase and whatever notes are bothering me start to evaporate.
Once this fragrance has gone beyond its troublesome initial phase, it becomes sophisticated, smooth and pretty. On me, it’s a “safe” fragrance rather than anything heady, edgy or intense. I find ROMANCE to be a “perfume-y” one, so individual notes don’t stand out for me. I think I can find the ginger here, but to be honest, that might be because I’m looking for it. For some reason, I don’t pick up much of the rose. After a few hours, I do get a bit of spicy carnation. Sillage is moderate and it lasts about 7 hours on me. (Batch code 18M803L – manufactured August, 2015.)

I bought the little 1 oz bottle of this at Shoppers Drug Mart today for the 19.99 (with the extra 20 percent off for us over 55’s on their every Thursday event) after reading the reviews here. Gosh, this is so nice! The rose ginger is foremost for me and it is stunning! I can also for sure detect the carnation as well as a somewhat shy musk-woodsy background. I can’t add much more than all of you have already done. I LOVE it!
This my first Ralph Lauren, at this rather late stage in the game. I also bought Ralph (the blue one) today, same size, same price. I will try it tomorrow.

Romance is a true love story. very romantic scent indeed. It is quite clean young and fresh. It smells of rose, lemon, ginger, and chamomile. The symphony of all this accords are very feminine and very classy.
The fragrance immediately transfers me to a beautiful spring day in a field full of flowers next to a turquoise blue lake blue sky, with gentle cool breeze caressing those waves.
It is really LOVELY. it is gorgeous. it is a bottle of happiness and love to me

It’s just a love story. Well, it’s very beautiful aroma of dreams. He is languid and deep, sexy and intriguing. I was fascinated with the first accords.
It reminds me about hot kisses, a long prelude and unrestrained sex. I fell in love with him.

A beautiful floral scent that is wearable for everyday with its subtle floral notes. The rose note is so beautiful and the chamomile and ginger notes is lovely in the dry down. I only wish that this fragrance would last longer on my skin as it only lasts maximum two hours. A clean, fresh scent that I like but disappointed with the longetivity.

Honestly, I can’t understand why this perfume is called ‘Romance’ as there is nothing romantic about it at all. That’s not to say it’s bad…if you’re looking for a soapy clean, greenhouse rose then this could be the perfect perfume. To me it’s rather screechy and I don’t associate this type of scent with sensuality…nothing that draws one in closer, nothing soft or reminiscent, nothing romantic.
It does project well and lasts forever.

I was expecting something similar to Lancome’s Miracle based on the notes. To my surprise, and delight, once it settles it veers into a completely different direction.
I agree with the reviewer down below who smelled suede and chocolate, although it reads as a buttery white chocolate to my nose. This middle phase lasts quite a while. Romance isn’t loud and doesn’t project too much, but if you like an opening of fresh white florals, ginger, roses and patchouli (well blended as a supporting note, not the main player at all) you should give this a test.
**I also just realized that I was smelling a slight musk, and normally I am not a musk person, but this is clean and delightful. Also, the flowers in this are very true to life without being literal.

I went in to buy chanel Gabrielle and the SA gave my 4 year old two RL samples: Ralph and romance. I was inwardly enthralled bc both are total blasts from the past I haven’t smelled since my youth.
In 1998 I was 12 and asked for romance for Christmas. This morning I sprayed it on my arm. First thought is its initially sweeter than I remember. There’s almost a phantom apple note similar to Ralph, but I don’t see that listed anywhere. Then immediately it turned into a dryer sheet type of white floral.
I felt satisfied that I left this one back in middle school where it belongs.
I walk to my kitchen and suddenly I am enveloped in a suede note so warm with a patchouli so well blended that it’s almost chocolatey!!
So as I move I get a laundry fresh white floral floating in the air. And up close chocolatey suede. I can’t believe how sophisticated my 12 year old nose was. I need this back in my collection again

Romance by Ralph Lauren is a beautiful, sexy scent. This is a great date-night fragrance, and is little too strong for the office IMO. It’s a 8+ hour fragrance from a bottle I purchased over 10 years ago.

I received a sample and decided to wear it today, it is like a fresh floral, dewy, nothing screechy about it…although it isn’t a new scent, it has that timeless feminine touch…it has a hint of citrus, and overall, nothing stands out in a bad way..it is just soothing to wear…longevity is ok, this is just a pretty creation, easy to like, and a nice fresh departure from the thick gourmands out there !!

I have never understood why this one isn’t more popular… to me, this ought to be viewed as a 90’s standout (albeit the tail end of the 90’s) Ralph Lauren absolutely nailed the fresh, clean, androgyny that Calvin Klein was (and actually is still) trying to perfect.
It’s hard to describe any one note as really standing out because it’s very, very well blended. But the chamomile does give it a touch of something soothing to round out the icy edges. I bought this fragrance back in 98 and I am so glad to have it back in my collection 20 years later! I don’t know if I have ever loved any other fragrance for 20 whole years! To me, this is just a easy choice. A no brainer. It’s versatility lends a viable option when I’m not sure what to choose for a certain day, event, or weather pattern. Because really, this works for anything from casual to semi formal. Winter to summer and everything in between. Moderate projection and above average longevity. Romance is a cool, crisp breath of fresh air!

I’m a fan of Ralph Lauren perfumes (Safari is one of my absolute favourites). Romance is light, floral and beautiful. It strikes a quiet and calming tone of contentedness and that’s why I like it.
I recommend it for daily use and it’s perfect for the office. I enjoy applying a spray to my bed linen too. Clean and comforting.

This is one of the few fragrances that makes you feel confident wearing. It smells expensive and blissful. It has a calming scent that is not boring. The dry down is not overbearing. If you are here, reading the reviews, contemplating whether or not you’ll purchase- I encourage you to go for it. You will enjoy this much so over in time. It is a delicate floral scent, this is not loud and flirty. You can rock this wearing a lacey dress or with just shirt, jeans and sneakers . That is how versatile this fragrance is. It doesnt impose its elegance. It just simply is.
The bottle is classy and minimalist too unlike some gaudy looking bottles from other designer fragrances. Its a very well done perfume.

ffsThis was hard for me to wear. When i smelled it in store i loved it and couldnt get it out of my head the whole day but when i tried to wear it it was just so incredibly strong i couldnt handle it. I appreciate its beauty but its a shame i just couldnt pull this one off.
For ages after i got this i was trying to think what it reminded me of. Something i had smelled a long time ago i just could NOT put my finger on. And then it hit me one day; in Australia in the late 90’s to early 2000’s the brand Australis used to do a body spray called Waterberry. That’s it.

Clean creamy white rose with ginger, camomile, lotus, light patchouli and woody smell. Pure, classy, clean, romantic, cool and warm at the same time.
I have grown to love this perfume more as the time goes by. It may not makes my heart skip a beat like ‘Paul Smith Rose’, another favorite of mine, but I feel calm when I wear this.
    Ps. I love rose.

I find it odd that I keep getting a coconut note which isn’t listed am I the only one who smells a hint of coconut? I love ROMANCE so much I use 7 sprays my bottle is from 2011.

This ended up being quite soapy on me, which was ironic, as I thought it actually was the foaming soap I had used to wash it off as I disliked it so much.

  33. :

    5 out of 5

Romance is nice. It’s very fresh and light. The ginger and chamomile make this a little bit unisex to me. The floral notes are pretty and understated. I detect light woody notes in the dry down. Although this is light, it lasts a long time. I wore it to bed last night and could smell subtle wood notes this morning. Sillage is soft to moderate.

  34. :

I just tested this in a chemist I don’t remember it smelling like cellery with pepper? It smelt like the Paris Hilton one does when it has gone off it has a spicy cellery smell? Very disappointed as I loved this when it first launched but it was always too expensive when I was younger and just started working so I never purchased it. Now it seems when I can afford it I have missed the opportunity due to reformulation.

I love this fragrance. Ralph Lauren’s Romance has been a favorite of mine since the last decade. I will rebuy it over and over again.

  36. :

Overpowering in a bad way. Way too many harsh floral notes. A very far cry from Ralph Lauren tender romance which is excellent.

I have a sample of this perfume.
Try it in 2008 1 time in a store and then a year ago bought a sample. I remembered it as nice floral rose with gentle ginger and musc. And it is. But only in warm months!
In winter time i tried it couple of times and didnt detect anything from my skin. No scent.
So unusual is than depending on different waether this perfume changes, works or does not works with my skin chemistry.
Now at the beginning of the summer smells marvelously floral with lemon and ginger – gentle spicy. As i smelled in the summer of 2008.

I receive this from my son every year for Mother’s 🙂 Day. I wore it the day of m wedding and I never get tired of it. It’s so classy and refined, I don’t think I will ever stop buying it.

My Step Mother had this when I was a teenager. I would spray it on before I would sneak out of the house and would feel so fancy haha. Years later and I still love it. I have been trying to find something new since I have been wearing this for over fifteen years. I have bought dozens of fragrances, but the only one that gets my partner crazy is Romance. It’s fresh, gets tons of compliments, and screams class.

This scent centers on the ginger & lily mostly to my nose. Very strong floral on the first 5 to 10 mins. Then it evolves to a soft rose with a little sweet twist. But thats all there is to it. After about 3 hrs its almost gone. Alas, I wanted to like this, even planned on getting the big bottle, but …. Am not so sure now.

  41. :

    4 out of 5

At first glance, a very air freshener type scent, with very little air of sophistication. Incredibly sweet at first, overwhelmed in a Jolly Rancher-like feel with little of the complexity promised by it’s notes.
I’m very partial to orientals and muskier, woodsier or spicier fragrances but florals like this just strike me as so painfully boring and frankly unattractive. Not awful, or at all an offensive scent, but in my opinion not worth a purchase.

  42. :

Boring scent, such a disappointment. To my dismay i literally used mine as an air freshener. tsk tsk

  43. :

I just received it as a gift las Christmas, I actually asked for it. Well, I think I will like it more in the winter, let’s see. For summer (very hot summer) I find it a little too sweet. I have the impression that it will be my in-between fragrance, like the one you use to have a brake from something else. It’s nice and quite neutral, nothing very special about it, but pleasant.
Just as I predicted it is so much better in Autumn/Winter, it gained a different shade of fresh quality that i could not notice on summer days. Now it makes me feel cozy and fresh at the same time. I’m in love.

  44. :

    5 out of 5

Interesting perhaps I have the reformulation as the notes don’t match what I’m smelling which is a bit of a synthetic mess.. in the top I get a not altogether unpleasant pear accord which quickly gives way to a chemical burning sensation much in the mode of a hairspray, nothing in the middle, the base a rubbery oakmoss.
Just wanted to mention to those who say fragrances don’t work with your skin chemistry, well.. don’t spray it on the skin, I have a wonderful incense fragrance that I love but when I put on my skin I get a strong cinnamon which I don’t prefer.. you can spray it on your clothing to avoid the interaction altogether and still enjoy your fragrances!

My Mother used to wear this and I absolutely adored it on it on her. It smelled delicate, rosy and fresh and evoked everything you could imagine with its name “romance”. But I made the mistake of buying it without trying it. On me, all I can smell is a harsh lemon cleaner sort of smell. It makes my head ache and I feel dizzy and nauseous. So disappointed because it smells divine on others but it just doesn’t seem to work with my body chemistry.

    Smell experiment.
I have two bottles of this now. Both ebay jsyk. One made in 2013, one in 2002. Two different scents. I wanted to see if I really hated this fragrance as I have had the 2013 one first and it is a toilet cleaner scent, harsh, biting terrible.
2002 version: rose, ginger, citrus beautiful!
So glad I decided to try an older bottle! Does anyone have a 2017 one? Is it good?

  47. :

Sophisticated dryer sheets. This fragrance tricked me in the store because it smelled completely different on paper than it does on skin. To me: A soapy, light floral with a hint of plastic.

  48. :

    3 out of 5

It smells soooo soapy! Its like rubbing soap on your skin and then smelling it. The skin smells exactly as if one gets out of the shower.Though on clothes, it smells better.I smelled my scarf today and I was positively impressed. But as a general perfume type, it’s the same conclusion: definitely soapy.

  49. :

    5 out of 5

I get a very clean rose, daisy and lemon that stays pretty much the same until the end. It’s very pleasant and not clinical or superficial smelling, but I’d turn more happily to Paul Smith’s ‘Rose’ for a rose scent.
It’s not a scent that I personally would consider romantic, rather reminds me of clean white rooms and fresh sheets, but it would probably suit somebody like Anastasia from Fifty Shades of Grey very well – someone who lives in a city and reads classic literature. It’s nice, inoffensive and I do like it, but there isn’t any darkness or mystery to make it truly romantic.
Sillage and longevity are both as expected, average but nice, about a 6/10.

  50. :

    4 out of 5

With this one you need to give it 5 mins to calm down after spraying it. When you do it is fresh, classic, clean with quite a distinct smell. For some reason it reminds me of evergreen trees on a snowy mountain. It has an elegant, classic feel. Could almost be unisex. I can see a young business woman or lawyer wearing this. Also kind of reminds me of the hamptoms.

My first serious gf used to wear this in high school so it brings back a lot of memories from a different time. This fragrance was very popular in the late 90s and early 2000s and I used to smell it on girls all the time. These days it’s rare to smell this fragrance on a girl, but whenever I do catch this beauty, I always try to find out who’s wearing it.

  52. :

I find myself turning to this in warm weather – it performs beautifully in the heat, ginger gives it a lovely frsh coolness.

I got a splash sample and began the test while lounging around the house in my favorite beat-up sweater. I started by dabbing some on my wrist and then went about my night.
It smells really nice before it dries. On the skin it dries way too soft though, and once it’s been sitting for an hour or so it smells cheap and stale 🙁
I was about to give up on it when I grabbed the same sweater the next night and threw it on. Lo and behold I caught a decent whiff of it lingering on the cuff of that sweater, and let me tell you…It smells way different on clothes! Not only that, but it apparently lasts longer in the fabric and it actually smells more interesting. So I suppose this is one of those fragrances that are best worn via your clothes. I’m keeping it!

This was my first “signature’ scent. I wore it from the age of 16 to 19. I remember vividly when I first decided this had to me mine; I was a hopeless romantic teenager and the Romance publicity in the magazines I was reading was showing exactly what I wanted my life to be. I fell in love with the smell and I wanted to be that kind of girl. Light, warm, wise and beautiful. It is the Elizabeth Bennet of smells.

I had received a gift card for a department store and had no idea what to buy, so I headed to the fragrance counter (imagine that! lol..). For some reason, this caught my eye. I guess it was the simple, classy, timeless looking bottle, which is sort of the type of fragrance I tend to prefer. I sprayed this to test it, and it immediately took me back to my childhood, this is a fragrance that reminds me of my mom..in the best way possible. Comforting, soft, light, not overpowering, slightly sweet but not overly sweet, womanly, not too girly. Feminine and soft and just lovely. I knew a bottle of this would be coming home with me!
Ralph Lauren Romance is one of my absolute favorite fragrances. To me, it is a perfect year-round scent, safe for gatherings, safe for pretty much anywhere, any time. For being rather light, this lasts on me pretty much all day. Does not turn funny or funky on me as the day wears on, and no changing of the notes wildly, but rather, what I smell when I first spray is how this smells all day. I really do not consider myself to have a ‘signature scent,’ but if I did, this for sure would be in the very top running as a candidate! Total perfection, in my book. Thank goodness for gift cards, otherwise I probably never would have ‘discovered’ this lovely fragrance!

  56. :

Very fresh, clean, floral. The bottle I believe is very representative of the scent.
Far too harsh for my nose though. To my mind it brings forth images of icy but sunny morning idylls.

  57. :

    5 out of 5

On application, Romance smells like men’s Gillette shaving cream for a good 5 minutes. Then it calms down and transitions into a more feminine fragrance. I can make out a delicate rose, chamomile, and lemon. Smells good but not full-bottle worthy. Just nothing too spectacular about it. Reminds me of the stuff that teenage girls wear in high school.

  59. :

I just don’t know how I feel about this one. For the first hour it comes off very “old lady” to my nose. I think the rose is the culprit. The dry-down however is a nice, light floral bouquet. Longevity is moderate, but I find the sillage to be too soft once it dries down. It’s pretty but not impressive, and that initial punch of rose is too much for me.

  60. :

Definitely a happy scent. I was curious about it for such a long time and it’s just how I imagined it – bright and beautiful bouquet of flowers with hint of light spices. Romance opens on my skin with chamomile, freesia, ginger, musk and lemon. It’s not such a prominent rose scent. It’s in the same vein with J’adore, Pleasures, all beautiful scent that I love. I am sure my mom will fall in love with Romance. Really nice silage and longevity. Feminine and versatile fragrance, it’s more elegant than seductive. IMO one of the best perfumes of the late 90’s.
Edit: On my mom rose is very prominent, actually she said it’s too rosey for her.

This smells very ‘department store.’ Fresh, clean, inoffensive, soft. The main scents I get here are florals, which is good since I hate patchouli. The patchouli is so light and buried here that you can hardly tell it is present. You can smell the ginger in the opening top notes. The main smell of this is a bouquet of flowers.

You can wear this scent to dress up (as long as you are not looking to get noticed or make a statement) or you can wear it in a T-shirt and jeans. It’s also fine to wear to work. It’s fresh, clean, and subtle enough not to bother anyone.
Estee Lauder Pleasures is superior to this.
This is my friend’s signature scent, so I’ll never own this. But it was nice to try out.

For a long time this was the signature scent of one of my girlfriends. I’d always loved how it smelled on her, but I never thought to buy it myself. But now this has been added to my stable, as my best mate gave me a bottle of this for my birthday recently ☺ Straight up, I get the lily, the ginger and the chamomile – an unusual combination, but rather nice. After an hour or so, I get the tiniest waft of violet with a hint of wood. This is mostly all flowers on me though, but not in a sickly way. It makes me think of a burying my nose in a big mixed bunch of flowers: the sweetness of the roses, the spicy-sweet carnations, the heady richness of the lilies, but with an underlying green note that cuts through the sweetness. This is such a fresh, clean, pretty fragrance. The weather is already warming up here, and I could see this working very well in summer, especially at the end of a long, hot day – you’d have a nice, cool shower, then spritz some of this on. I don’t know if it’s because it has been reformulated, or the way this reacted with her skin chemistry (or perhaps a bit of both) but I remember this being a bit more musky on my friend when she wore it. I think this would work well layered with something like Halloween Fever or BCBG Max Azria.

    A modern chypre at last!
This is a beautiful and romantic fragrance.
For me the floral notes are the big players and I love the rose, chamomile, violet, lotus and lily. There is a sweetness of flowers and a lemon and chamomile tea note. It also has ginger but it’s not terribly spicy. This is a tea scent to me. It smells of rose and chamomile like having a tea in a rose garden. The romantic touch is definitely the rose, the same rose in such mature/romantic fragrances like the new Red Door by Elizabeth Arden. This perfume is trying to go back to classic florals.
The scent of rose lingers for a long time before it turns into the deeper oak moss, musk and patchouli. There is also a bit of woods and it smells so classy, Chanelesque, and glamorous. It matches up with evening gowns and black dresses for five star dinners and for dinner parties. It’s a dress-up fragrance. You can’t wear this with T shirt and jeans. It wants you to wear her with your hair up and with a lovely dress. I wear this out on dates with my Stephen.
    Beautiful!

I remember the first time I encountered Romance; I was working at a coffee shop in downtown Harrisburg, I was in my early twenties…extremely impressionable and hopelessly romantic. One summer day a woman walked in wearing this lovely fragrance. I was so captivated by her perfume that my immediate words were: “Whatever you’re wearing, it smells amazing!”
Completely baffled by the outburst, she actually laughed and told me it was Ralph Lauren’s most popular summer line. From that day forward I would always associate new love with its name.
Romance is the scent I associate with new beginnings: that feeling of blossoming infatuation and warm affections. It is young, bright and full of hopeful ambitions.
I do not find this fragrance to be sensual or even sexy; in fact I find it to be of happy spirits and puppy dog love. It’s a flower bomb, with top notes chamomile, freesia, and rose…the ginger and lemon makes it very fresh and suitable for the summer. Overall very romantic and joyful, for the lover at heart =P

Romance was always a fragrance that I wanted to work for me. When it launched, I was just graduating high school, and one of the ladies at the office where I’d had a summer internship wore it, so I associated it with being grown-up and feminine.
Through the years, I always tried off and on to wear Romance, but the effect with my body chemistry was the same — end result of men’s shaving cream.
I love the simple bottle, the black & white ad campaigns, and the pretty pink box, and I do t
