Description

“This refreshing and aquatic fragrance is like a cleansing walk in the rain, offering a clean slate in life. Its soothing scent combines delicate water musk with a floral symphony of lotus blossom, lemon verbena, and jasmine.

Commodity Rain is part of the White Collection which includes bright, fresh and uplifting fragrances for him, for her and for you.” – a note from the brand.

“I love to listen to the rhythm of the rain falling from the sky. It’s soothing, playful and refreshing, and, for me, it creates a sense of happiness. As a child, I loved to walk in the summer showers and feel the droplets of water shimmering on my shoulders as sparkling dewdrops fell on the leaves and flower petals–bright, clean, shiny and fresh. It brings to mind that a rainbow will always shine after the rain“– Ketrin Leka, Master Perfumer.

Rain was launched in 2013.

I see people using words like airy, floral, fresh, pretty, aquatic, green, tropical, etc. to describe this scent.
Let me preface this by first saying that I LOVE (like crazy psycho love) the Commodity house. I think many of their scents are masterpieces of modern perfumery. My favorites are Moss, Gin, and Leather. Tonka not so much. And that I only tested this on a paper test strip.
    BUT…
What I got what the smell of rain when it hits the concrete, when it first starts to rain. A little dirty, but welcome and super refreshing. Not much else. It was so real and authentic, in fact, that I remember wondering how on God’s green earth they captured that scent. But I skimmed though all of the reviews here and not one other person had the same experience with this? Did I try the right fragrance?
I guess I won’t know, but that being said, I do really enjoy this fragrance. My thoughts when I tested it were that it’s great. Amazing even. But do I want to wear it?
I don’t get the coastal beach aquatic green fresh floral whatever that everyone else did. At all. Is my nose broken? Was it olfactory fatigue?
I may have to give this one another go, but on my skin this time. I’ll update my review accordingly.

I thought I’d correct a note in the description of this fragrance. According to the Commodity website the base notes include White Amber not Vetiver. Amber is actually a much more attractive note to me. I can’t wait to try this scent.

This is not an earthy rain, but instead a tropical rain with lush aquatic florals wafting up from my wrists. It is beautiful, but I was hoping for more of a dirty scent, like that loamy smell that rises up after a summer thunderstorm. No, indeed, this is much more delicate; not that it is a bad thing, just not I’m looking for.
I’ll happily use up the rest of my decant, but it’s not full bottle worthy for me.

I thought I would love this because an aquatic white floral fresh green scent is my ultimate love and so far what I have tried from the Commodity line is pretty nice. And I did like it, for the first ten minutes. It smells like a nice aquatic cologne, a bit nondescript but fresh and pleasing .
    HOWEVER!
After those first ten minutes, the only way I can describe what develops is with one word:
    Fake.
Fake “cologne-y” renditions of what flowers and greenery and rain is supposed to smell like. This smells like a very cheap cologne’s take on what rain would smell like. Nothing smells even close to authentic. And it smells harsh and hits that back of my nose in the way industrial cleaner does. I thought maybe it was my chemistry, so I tried it on some paper, and the same thing happened. After the first few minutes everything just goes south in a bad way. I guess I just got used to how niche houses actually make aquatic/green/floral scents that actually smell realistic.

I get whifs of cucumber and clean cotton. There is a prominent watery jasmine that fades to a crisp yellow floral and musk scent. Last about 6 hours on me. Fresh and upplifting happy smell. I rate this allong with Tea as the best in the Commodity White collection.

I like this. It’s lightly sweet, lightly flowery, fresh, a bit soapy, and cold (not warm).

Fresh, watery and woodsy, with vetiver undertones. Just like leaves after rain and pethrichor. You get a lemon blast the first 10 seconds, then it gets jasmine and lotus with woods and green notes. Sillage is close to the skin, but is very long lasting even after a shower. Is more of a personal fragrance rather than a crowd pleaser. Smells a liiiittle like Chancel Chance eau Fraiche, but softer.

This was a blind buy, but it ended up being absolutely beautiful. I probably wouldn’t have purchased this after an initial sniff at the store – the initial scent it slightly floral, slightly lemony. I didn’t get any connection to Rain. But after an hour or two of wear the fragrance transformed into something evocative and gorgeous. Its not rain on a grass lawn – its rain over a pond, with waterlilies blooming. I’ve never tried a scent that lingers and develops as nicely as this one does. Highly recommend

    * These are my personal experiences/thoughts with this fragrance. Yours/others may differ. *
    Initial – musk + verbena + bergamot
    Drydown – musk + lotus + freesia + wood
    Duration – 5-6 hours
    Projection – soft
Experiences – Smells like the air before/after a rainstorm in springtime; very wet with a hint of florals. Lays close to the skin.
Quick Thoughts – watery, fresh, floral

To me, being from the landlocked Midwestern US, rain does not smell like this: In my rain there is more petrichor.
Instead, this is more the rain of the coasts, somehow salty and slightly metallic with wafts of bruised flowers whipping in the storm with the driftwood and seaspray.
Or, you are small child clinging tight to your mother as she carries you in from the storm, the rivulets of cold water washing the salt of her skin down her face and the soft scent of her hand cream as she pushes your damp hair away from your eyes.

Fresh, clean, green aquatic with white flowers. I’m not seeing any lily of the valley listed, but it definitely reminded me of perfumes with that note. Stronger and longer lasting than many of the Commodity white line.

This is a beautiful soft floral. I really like it. Another winner by Commodity Goods. Does it smell like rain? It’s definitely a fresh, wet, floral scent. Lush.

This smells very aquatic. It’s nice, but in some ways I find the lotus a little too overpowering for my tastes. It reminds me of Acqua di Gioia with extra lotus. Not bad, but will stick with Armani as my go-to light aquatic fragrance.

This is my second favorite in the Commodity cocktail kit. I love it. It is very fresh and clean without smelling soapy. It does not remind me of rain because I do not get an earthy smell that I associate with rain. I love to mix this with Moss. I feel like it is the perfect morning combination.

AMAZING SCENT!!! Clean, fresh, not overpowered but very long lasting on my skin. Finally something what isn’t for the “sweet, candy trends”.
I love it!!! Unique and classy

Beautiful scent. Green/aquatic and slightly citrusy. Very refreshing and relaxing. Sillage was moderate but it only lasted about 4hours on me. Longer lasting than some other Commodity scents I’ve tried. Reminds me a lot of Magnolia from the house because of the green/aquatic feel, but Magnolia is more floral and doesn’t have any citrus to me.

Smells like a freshly washed body with some lightly applied face cream.
Smelling this is quite calming, its no more than a skin scent but it makes you feel so clean and relaxed.

ETA: I think I’ve decided I like this. The delicious whiffs I got all night couldn’t have been coming from anywhere but my arm. I don’t like it so much up-close for the opening and middle (as in, my nose buried in the inside of my arm), but to my nose the aura is much sweeter. I loooove the soft drydown with no spicy notes. I was really surprised at how long-lasting it was given what a fresh clean scent it is. Definitely leaning toward adding it to my wardrobe 🙂
I came to this because I have been on a search for years to recreate the scent of my all-time sentimental favorite, L’Occitane’s Fleur de Lotus perfume oil (1996) that came in a darling little bottle. I am wild to find a nice lotus-based fragrance since then and while this doesn’t remind me of it, it does have some watery and sharp clean notes to it that my beloved Precious had. Hoping I will come to love it 🙂

I don’t know if I like this or not. I have this on one arm and Ouai hair spray on my hair; I keep getting these delicious whiffs and I can’t tell which is which! I’m gonna give this a chance. The opening definitely has the smell of wet leaves after a rain. After that the sharp citrus takes over, but it is definitely clean through and through. I’m waiting to see how it progresses.

All i can say is this is EXACTLY what i needed on this gloomy snowy day! It smells like the air in Florida, fresh flowers and the ocean. I need the full size bottle of this so I can spray it on like a maniac! Seriously one of the best things I’ve ever smelled!

My wife wears this and it smells like magic. It pulls on my heart strings and makes me think of another time and place. Where or when that time or place was, I can’t remember. I can almost put my finger on it, then it slips away like a fading dream before the morning’s first light.
Rain smells like lotus blossoms in full bloom with a touch of jasmine, on the morning after it rains, when the air is cool and gentle. Commodity puts out a great high quality product. The scents they craft, blend seamlessly in with your natural scent. Rain is an EDP with incredible staying power and it fills a room with beauty and freshness.
