Description

Puro by Nejma is a line inspired by Christian Bousidan’s time spent in Havana and his enjoyment in the aromas of rum and Cuban cigars, scents of the sea and exotic climate. A magic moment was sufficient to inspire a line of perfumes that needs to reflects all of those wonderful aromas. The collection presents two fragrances Puro and Puro Intense. We will write about them and about other fragrances in today’s reportage.

Puro opens with fresh mojito and antic rum note. The heart is a spicy bouquet of cinnamon, clove and cactus, while the base is made of mahogany, Cuban cigar leaf and vetiver.

Puro is available as 40 ml EDP.
Puro was launched in 2010.

    SWEET ALCOHOLIC
Blasted off with this overly sweet (fruity) and alcohol fumes. Not ‘boozy’. More the kind of alcohol often used as a transport system for fragrances.
It took 2 hours – yes, 2 hours, for that initial blast off to calm down and allow for any other notes to peek thru.
I did eventually get some spices, and the sweetness mellowed (as did the alcohol).
This is overkill. Not refined. Not nuanced. Not for me.

    Nejma Puro
For those who likes Burberry London, here we have his wealthy cousin.
I can detect Mojito drink since from the opening and hints of malt (whisky).
On the beggining it is herbal and green, like grass but with a different touch of mate (yerba mate).
A woody and beautiful dry with a dark touch of tobacco.
    🙂

On me this is sweet vanilla and a bit of non-boozy rum with hints of warm woods and spices. I was really surprised when I looked up the notes for this scent because my impression of it was a woody gourmand. I can smell no tobacco, except perhaps for a slight added warmth, and no vetiver. If I had to put a gender on this scent (which I don’t care much about myself, but I know others do) I would say unisex leaning towards feminine. A very soft and pleasant scent!

Kick ass cocktail opener with rum dominating the mix.
A hint of sweetness (vanilla?) turns up in the heart that does not show up on the notes.
The send off of the tobacco and vetiver blend is just wonderful.
Made for a man but the right woman will pull it off but not sure why she would venture forth here with all the fab scents at her disposal!
    Sillage and longevity are solid.

There is a decided but short-lived booziness to the opening of Nejma PURO, though I’m not sure that I’d describe it as “mojito”. In any case, it’s a brief and pleasant introduction to what becomes a somewhat classic-smelling tobacco and teak or mahogany composition. PURO does smell somewhat masculine, conjuring up the image of a good old boy smoking a pipe (not a cigar!) after dinner in a leather swivel chair at the teak desk in his library the walls of which are covered with smooth, dark wooden shelves filled with dusty books never read.
The tobacco is roasted and ready to smoke but not yet lit. The mahogany or teak smells freshly cut. Women who appreciate fragrances such as Creed TABAROME and Tom Ford TOBACCO VANILLA would surely enjoy this one as well. This is not a stereotypical “male cologne”, but it does seem to me to be more masculine than feminine.

The first thing I smelled, right out of the vial, was teak, which I suppose is the mahagony that’s listed as being in the base. Teak at this strength gives the whole scent a stereotyped “drugstore masculine” flavor, which I could definitely do without. I also smelled a nicely done cigar tobacco accord, some citrus, presumably the lime in the “mojito”, and some generic sweetish-greenish notes, maybe part of the “cactus” accord, whatever that is. I don’t smell much in the way of spices, probably because they’ve been wrestled to the ground by the macho hulk of a teak trunk.
As the scent develops, a slightly boozy, sweet rum creeps in, complementing the citrus and tobacco, making for an interesting combination, like a lime and cactus fruit syrup that might be used to flavor drinks. Then the whole thing becomes distinctly powdery. The tobacco and teak and boozy drink are still there, but they’ve been bathed, had their little tushes powdered, snuggled into a sugary tonka cocoon and hung out to dry. At this point it becomes a powdery comfort scent and stays that way through the 8+-hour drydown. Puro is one of those shape-shifters that rushes out in one direction, then makes a 180 degree turn, and ends up as something entirely different. Not what I expected, but interesting.

    Top notes of Delicious Cocktails…
Mojito is named … but I get Dark RUM cocktails!!!
then pronounced SPICY notes of Cinnamon and Cloves
    which is really yummy
then I get the heady warmth of
    Tobacco and Mahogany!
    this was an impulse purchase
that I’m soo pleased with ….
The other fragrances that I think are almost like it in its…
    Sensuality and Lushness:
    Tabacca Costamor
    $75.00 50ML
    and
    Odori Tabacco
    $210.00 100ML.
    oh yes… lets not forget
    Fumerie Turque by Serge Lutens
    $98.00 50ML.
    All these fragrances offer
    something unique and unusual
variations of TOBACCO which I simply adore !!!

The freshness of burst mojito and spicy cinnamon are perfectly blended with aged rum note which result a fresh and sweet rich-addicted flavor.
Cuban cigar leaves together with mahogany and Haitian vetiver root enhanced the warm and its manly character.
I really enjoy sniffing this EDP. This is an interesting masculine fragrance with class. The bottle itself reminds me of a cigar, symbol of a man success.
I will definitely buy the other pair (Puro Intense) as well, cz I love gourmand fragrance a lot.
