Description

Premier Jour is the first day of the new ear for Nina Ricci, and it announces the restitution of the original codes of this brand. The Premier Jour fragrance merges with the form of a woman, without any particular accentuation of itself. Its sensual scent is aimed at body rather than thoughts. Optimistic mandarin and joyous sweet pea in alliance with gardenia give an intimate nuance to sweet note of the composition.

Delicate orchid, vanilla, and woodsy-musky base notes blend in a lingering soft trace. The designers of this fragrance are Sophie Labbe and Carlos Benaim. It was launched in 2001.

Premier Jour was created by Sophie Labbe, Carlos Benaim and Rosendo Mateu.

    @TonyTheTiger
Sometimes someone makes an extremely stupid comment in very poor taste; sometimes someone needs to call them out. This is one of them.
“This was the perfume used in the Salisbury, UK novichok poisoning.
    Don’t be moaning about it’s performance ;)”
Premier Jour is not “the perfume used in Salisbury, UK novichok poisoning”.
The perfume was NOT used; a bottle labelled Premier Jour was discovered in Salisbury, which contained a novichok nerve agent.
Five people were hospitalised as a result of the attack. One died.
It is not appropriate now – nor will it ever be – to joke about it.

Let’s get it straight. The bottle was used in the despicable poisoning. That’s all!

    Amazing perfume. Poor performance

I simply adore this perfume from the very first time I discovered it at our relative’s collection, when I was about 14. This was the first perfume I bought when I was 16, and from time to time I buy it again. It is sophisticated and not too complicated, yet vibrant to my taste. I love how it openes up and its base notes are like pearls on my skin. One of the all time favorites.

A very soft and delicate daily scent, mostly gardenia with just a hint of vanilla and musk.
The performance I have to say is quite poor. On me I feel like it lasts somewhere between 1-2 hours.
A better option for me would be Calvin Klein’s Sheer Beauty, it has that white flower freshness of jasmine and lily and the softness of vanilla and musk.

I mostly smell gardenia and… licorice! I’m surprised that licorice isn’t listed as a note because it’s very prominent om my skin. Premier jour also smells floral and a little musky and woody. It’s a nice, comfortable fragrance.
    Sillage and longevity are average.

Beautiful perfect perfume. Getting harder to find. I too am looking for a similar scent if anyone has suggestion

Hi everyone, as this lovely scent has been discontinued, can anyone recommend me a perfume which is very similar? I am really missing wearing it – have been using it since it came out, unfortunately nowadays the net is full of fakes/past shelf time bottles…. 🙁 🙁

Great design, good fragrance. Smells lovely on me, mainly white flowers and just a pitch of sweetness. Once it smelled like snowdrops to me, but it turns out it’s actually gardenia. And the sweetness is caused by the mixture of the orchid and sweet pea. Pretty daytime scent. Reminds me of Versace pour femme.

This is a very lovely scent. But I feel it is best suited for a pre-teen or young lady who is just getting into perfumes. The sweet pea is prominent on my skin and it reminds me too much of something Bath and Body Works would sell.

I have changed my work back in late 2000s and I needed a new perfume to lead me in that new experience. When I am stressful, I always ask something fresh and delicate. First of all I was attracted by geometrically unusual bottle construction. I knew Premier Jour ads and it was described as delicate smell of skin, so I decided let it go. I sprayed and there was…nothing. Later that day after shopping I was on bus holding my hand up and suddenly I felt something smelling of sweet almonds and fresh apple tree blossom. That was the most fragile, clear scent. I have purchased later the smallest size and gone to work. Each day I got compliments and questions about scent but myself I could feel it occasionally. Imagine someone opens the window and you get smell of spring time garden and baking cookies but suddenly window is closed shut and you feel nothing. Soon I got annoyed how perfume escapes me and half full bottle given away to my colleague who was the most infatuated by scent. I could smell on her…nothing.

I really wanted to love this perfume but it’s just not happening for me. The opening is citrus and floral and very pretty but also so, so bland. And fleeting. This is the most inoffensive, middle of the road perfume I own. I love the bottle and I will use this at the gym, thanks to its lack of longevity and it’s nondescript nature.

NRPJ was a blind but based on the reviews on Fragrantica. On me, it’s a nice, light, soft safe scent. I like it but don’t love it. Doesn’t have much silage for me. I’m glad I tried it and will most likely return or give to my daughter.

For me it is happiness in a bottle. Fresh and warm in the same time, it’s perfect for spring! It’s the first perfume I ever bought for myself and I use it only on happy moments

I hate most sandalwood based perfumes, as I’ve discovered recently. This is no exception. Also the personality of the perfume and my personality just do not gel. I LOVE gourmands, as long as the vanilla smells natural and not synthetic. I love perfumes with big personality. I love some quirk factor. This perfume has none of those qualities. And hence…
But I agree with all the posters below, that this perfume is definitely very elegant, classic, feminine. This does remind me of deep red in some ways, but where deep red is pulchritudinous this is more traditional innocent feminity. There is something of the mamma about this perfume, not in a mature way, but like a young mother, coiffed beautifully, calm and composed. Reminds me a bit of Grace Kelly. A beautiful blonde young mother, with shiny hair in an elegant chignon, wearing a pencil skirt suit in baby blue and classic solitaires in her ears, sipping coffee at a cafe while her toddlers are in a pram next to her. It’s definitely an evocative perfume. Sadly it is not for me.

    I love this perfume.
It was always my go-to summer fragrance and I bought replacement bottle after replacement bottle. For some reason, I didn’t repurchase after my last bottle ran out.
A couple of weeks ago, I felt there was something missing from my fragrance wardrobe and realised – this was it.
I wore it again yesterday evening, after a shower, and it is a lovely, fresh, light but creamy floral scent to wear when the weather is hot and humid (as it has been in SE England). The initial spray opens with sweet pea and gardenia, which hang around for quite a while; the woodsy notes underpin the florals, which makes this perfume for me – I don’t think I could wear this if the scent was exclusively floral. I can’t really detect the vanilla in this at all, although it may be what gives the fragrance its creaminess.
I can imagine a summer bride wearing this on her wedding day. It is feminine and somehow virginal.
It has a reasonable longevity on my skin 4-5 hours and moderate sillage.

  19. :

    5 out of 5

Coooozy! The type of scent you would like your kids to know as your signature.
I can clearly detect only vanilla and gardenia- which I thought was jasmine when I tried it for the first time.
    It really makes you smile:D.
It doesn’t change very much on my skin, but what I think it’s impressive about it is its sillage. OMG, people can smell if you entered the room :)).
Beautiful floral, perfect for early spring 🙂

Wow! This perfume is just wonderful! Best of Nina Ricci! Others of NR seem to be even stinky compared to this one! My mom had it and I used to sneakily spray it on myself all the time :)))

I always wanted a Nina Ricci perfume, but I haven’t come across one that is my type of scent. This one, imho, is the 2nd best smelling from Nina Ricci that I’ve smelled. The best smelling one on my list is L’Air with the pinkish fluid (from what I remember.) When I tested Premier Jour, I didn’t know what to think…something drew me to smell it over and over again. To me, it’s an ok fragrance, just not for me. While I did enjoy my sample vial from a perfume samples website, it is not something I will go out and buy.

I can say that it floral ,classic very easy recognisable fragrance. sweet pea and some yellow little flowers .
Also for but also for me there is something sad in it:) .only memory of course from some period of life .

A very classic, clean and fresh flower perfume. It is never heavy and stays airy, very soft. Plays beautifully outdoors in a fresh cool air.
Also – the sweet pea flower note holds some lovely memories – I was born in the summer and often got sweet pea flowers for my birthday. Such a wonderful and pleasant note.
To me Premier Jour feels fresh, feminine and just beautiful.

It has a good and elegant scent. I bought this tester-bottle perfume from a well-known online shop in Indonesia, but it didn’t come perfectly ‘new’ like it supposed to be, it had been sprayed once or two to make sure that it has a ‘non-leaked sprayer’, said the seller unprofessionally. Although it wasn’t a ‘brand new’ perfume anymore, it didn’t lessen my enthusiasm. It has a soft scent yet still feels elegant. I’m not an expert, but I can make sure that this perfume has a delicate and fresh scent, a mix between orange and gardenia flowers. A slight vanilla base, doesn’t make me nausea. It makes me want to work harder every time I smelled this perfume. In tropical climates like my place, it lasts 4 hours on my body and 12 hours on my shirt. So ladies, enjoy your premier jour.
    —–
So ladies, enjoy your premier jour..

Why do I smell pepper?!! Don’t understand, maybe it is because of woody notes?… I like the scent but the smell is a little strange

This is a beautiful fragrance in my opinion. It’s sensual yet not ostentatious, it’s warm and still somewhat fresh at the same time, maybe best for evening. This is for the the woman who emphasizes understated and classic beauty. I wear this occasionally, and it always makes me take an extra breath and smile.

So safe that I go to this everytime I need to hang or meet with someone/people that I need to impress in a first meeting cos I know first imporession is the lasting one and likewise, I dont want anyone to remember me as the one with the powerful/offensive fragrance; cos tastes vary so so much even with fragrance.
No one has ever said this fume smells bad. It smells pleasant and sweet and clean and amiable.

  29. :

    4 out of 5

In the beginning it smells “polite” and PC, but it soon warms up and becomes smiling kindness. It is not a very unique scent but it is well balanced. Fresh without being sour, sharp or aquatic; warm without being heavy or overly sweet. A bit powdery, gentle, light and feminine. The aspect of femininity that is presented here is the caring, kind and confident one, not a wild and sexy one. I would love to smell this on someone who takes care of people – a nurse, a doctor, a teacher – it will make me trust her.

  30. :

This one is sweet and floral fruity. It’s not the most original one, but there are some things I like about it. I like the softness of gardenia note and the sweetness of sweet pea and orchid.
Still, I think this is one of those scents that must mix perfectly with one’s chemistry. If it doesn’t, then it’s not a scent for you.
And it’s not a scent for me.

  31. :

The first impression when I wear it…”too much citrus for me”. In my opinion, orchid and gardenia(as well as jasmine, but not the case here)are too intense, sometimes even intoxicating fragrances, thus the combination between them, citrus and woody elements is too much for me. Maybe I was expecting something creamy, more delicate, sublime and I received a “strong” bouquet. I also hate the fact that the longetivity and sillage are soft- moderate. I don’t like this parfume at all, it is not suitable for me, but I must admit that after a couple of hours (when the smell is almost gone), the base notes are quite plesant actually, but still not a representative flagrance for me.

No tester for PJ so I blind bought it based on reviews here but unfortunately It’s not for me since I find it a bit too floral.
I was expecting it to be creamy and soft but on me only flowers stand out however it is a very good fragrance you just have to love flowers though, so this goes to my mum

  33. :

To me it smells like a snowdrop flower and few other “springies” in a small bouquet. Too florally aromatic and feminine, but in quite mature way – of course, because my mother uses it. Nice and interesting bottle design. But it’s not my type 🙂

So I just got a sample of this, and i had Avon Summer White – Sunset on my wrist. I put this one on the back of my hand and it almost smelled the same way, but a bit sweeter!!! I kow is insane! 😀
Anyway lovely fragrance, but nothing too special for me, I’d choose the Avon one over this, which is way cheaper and lasts even longer.

I have been personally introduced to this fragrance many, many years ago, by my mum. Thus, its scent is very dear to my heart. It is also a dear fragrance to me because, when I was in college, a friend of mine told the she felt like this perfume totally represented and characterized me. Since then, every time I feel the yellow mandarin notes I think , with nostalgia, of her and of the college years. The heart notes of gardenia and orchid enliven the person who wears it. The woody, sandal, musk and vanilla base notes are the ones who build the lasting, memorable character of this fragrance. Mmmm….talking about it, just woke up sweet memories and made me wanna buy it once again. Oh, I saw that the small flacon is at a very good deal on Strawberry. Think I will take another journey to the youthfull college years, with this scent…

Premier Jour has grown on me. In the beginning I felt it was a little bit too weak and just disappeared after a while. But after a while of using it I found the subtleness of it to actually be quite nice. The smell of it is warm and comforting and far from being too much. If you wanna smell nice, but at any cost avoid being one of these these ladies who have a mist of odeur in a 10 meter radius around them this could be an excellent choice. Very feminine.

My relationship with this perfume is wierd. I do not like citruses much in my fragrances. But i just love the citrus bitterness in this one. And then I always complain about its longevity and silage, but I always end up buying it the next spring and wearing it even through all the summer. Well, what to say. It is simply beautiful, angelic and charming. I love it.

Premier jour was the first perfume I chose and bought by myself. It was many years ago when I wasn’t so much into perfumes and I must admit that I admire how easy it was- I just smelled, liked and bought it.
It’s like a beautiful woman without make up. Her beauty is quiet but obvious so there’s no need to shout. She’s optimistic and confident. Delicate, sophisticated and lovely.

This is really something which represents class. It makes me think about a sassy, beautiful, well spoken lady. It is inoffensive but it absolutely doesn’t lacks character. Based on the notes it didn’t sound like something I would like but boy, I was wrong! This is actually great! Just the right amount of vanilla which is a great combination with the gardenia. It reminds me of a creamy body lotion. There’s a great change this will be my next purchase!

I really like this scent, unfortunately my skin chemistry does change it (in a more sweet way, than I wanted it to be). On my skin I feel it lasts at abt. 2 hours, while on my clothes (I sprayed it on my pajamas) more than 12hours and the scent is gorgeous (fresh, than sweet). Otherwise I really like it- soft and elegant perfume.

Premier Jour is the epitome of tenderness and subtlety. When I think of classic femininity, I think of Premier Jour. It would be a good fit for a true lady of any age and suitable for any occasion. It’s light and very uplifting. Indeed, like The First Day Of Your New Life.

  49. :

    4 out of 5

Creamy, powdery, soft and tender, Premier Jour is all things traditionally feminine. A casually elegant, harmoniously blended floral that feels comfortable for most occasions. It starts with juicy orange notes that blend into sweet pea (so pretty) and gardenia, then give way to wafts of vanilla orchid over the base notes of fluffy musk and woods. It’s never heavy, but has got a warmly ozonic nature throughout, like a south breeze stirring the flowers in a seaside garden. Romantic, with understated sensuality. The soft vanilla-woodsy drydown reminds me a bit of Allure at the same stage. I also got an instant association to Premier Jour the first time I tested Hugo Boss Deep Red, to the latter’s detriment, I might add. Those orangey-musky-vanilla notes felt so much more delicate and refined in Premier Jour.
The very opposite of daring or challenging, Premier Jour is well-made and memorable in its own soft-spoken way, such a pretty caress of a scent, especially on a summer night. A total pleaser to me.

Elegant and sweet floral scent! Also, my mother’s signature 🙂 It is a tender fragrance, it won’t scream at you, but it will smile at you from the corner. Feminine floral notes, backed by warm woods and delicious vanilla and musk. The mandarin orange just gives the right amount of ‘zing’ to it. This is a ’round’ fragrance, there are no sharp edges, it is soft and fluffy. And the bottle is uniquely pretty. A definite gem by Nina Ricci!

    Creamy floral scent! 🙂 🙂 🙂
I do enjoy some “punch” behind this pleasant accord. You can either layer it over something citrusy/woody or wear it on a mellow afternoon… 🙂

Such a beautiful powdery perfume… its almost like a womans version of baby powder – and i mean that as a compliment.
This makes me picture an elegant woman dressed in nude silks, soft spoken and very feminine.
There is nothing loud or aggressive about this perfume. It’s very office friendly going into the smart casual/elegant category. =)

This is very nice, a lovely floral. More grown up, although I wouldn’t call it classic, a pretty Nina Ricci creation, more mature. Yet easy to enjoy . It is fresh in a way, very fragrant smelling, obviously nicely done, it is soft enough to be worn casually, and it is not boring, or generic, just a nice little scent with its own character. I detect the sweet pea at first, then the scent goes creamy, it reminds me a bit of Armani Mania . It is a bit light though and doesn’t offer good longevity . Still, a nice creation by Nina Ricci.

Oh, wow… I love how Fragrantica reminds me of all the different bottles I tried in past…. Premier Jour is one of them… Where did I find it?? Somewhere in a duty free… years ago… I have not seen it in years and forgot about it. It was a pioneering scent. Nowdays this type of a fragrance is more common… powdery, almondy, comforting, gentle and very feminine…. What a nice memory… I may buy it again, if I run into it. But this was not a scent I would go out of my way to get it again… 🙂
I am checking ingredients… I guess I am calling it powdery because of the mellow combination of sweet pea, vanilla, musk and sandalwood… Very creamy comforting memory… 🙂

  58. :

After being hesitant about buying Premier Jour for quite some time I finally got it less than a week ago. A small bottle, half-blind buy… And what can I say? I think I’m falling in love! 🙂
This is a fragrance in which I actually do recognise the notes of real flowers which doesn’t happen all that often. If I tell you that I wanted to have my bridal bouquet made of sweet peas
(didn’t get it though, wasn’t quite the season anymore), and here – et voilá – here’s the wonderful scent of fresh and sweet 🙂 sweet peas au nature then you can understand how much I appreciate the note being emphasised. Wish I had known it just a little while ago, so I could have worn this to replace the missing flower in my bouquet.
But that’s not it – there’s also the gardenia note which is surprisingly (and pleasantly!) creamy. I can only guess it’s the vanilla blend which makes it so smooth. Ah, and there’s also the sparkling note of mandarin orange – moodlifting and energising.
My nose (which sadly is rather sensitive and accepts only mild fragrances these days) is happy with Premier Jour. It’s indeed all what’s been said by previous reviews – soft, delicate, nice, feminine, happy, clean, beautiful, floral… Cute! 🙂
All in all – I think I have found a new favorite for the coming spring! Plus, I already wish I had ordered the biggest bottle.
Ps. And yes, it fades away too fast. :S

I owned it once, in times, when I could not afford to travel and was daydreaming about sitting on a balcony on a sunny spring morning somewhere in Paris drinking espresso and feeling that the world is my oyster! I think I spent quite a few months escaping the grey reality in this fantasy while I was using Premier Jour. Of course, once I got to visiting Paris, I realised, that the scent hardly suited that city: it just had “a little too little” character compared to the destination. Premier jour is a very light, but at the same time thirst-satisfying floral, tinted inmy favourite rosy-apricot shade. Unfortunately it did not have a lot of staying power on me. I would take it on a holiday to a place with a minimalistic setup: a small town on a lake or something like that. The scent is also perfect for wearing at home while on maternity leave: it is not at all offensive and rather carries a feeling of novelty in life and new beginnings. Since I am planning to have a baby some time soon, I will be buying a bottle especially for that, perhaps in pure parfum strenth to avoid constant re-application.

My mum brought a bundle of samples along with some perfumes back from her business trip to Paris. I still remember my favourite among them were Premier Jour and Rush 2.
I can hardly tell what it smells like now but in my memory it is a soft floral woody scent. I used to wear it in bed, close my eyes and imagine I’m strolling in a forest on a dewy spring morning in white linen dress. I walk and walk and finally sit down on a tree trunk. I smell the soft sunlight, the damp breeze, the balmy woody scent from the trunk, with all the fresh blooming flowers at my feet. Then I fell asleep in such a picture. This was how comforting this perfume to me.
Personally I prefer wearing heavy scents but this is a special scent that I’d like to keep to myself. There is only word to describe it and that word is BEAUTIFUL.

About the poor longevity of contemporary perfumes
I think they make them of poor quality so we spray more often then necessary and buy another bottle and another and so on.
There s no other explanation for me. I m in love with perfumes and when I love one it doesn’t matter if it s expansive, very expansive or less expansive. They all last less then they should even if their name contains a word like essence or elixir or smth like that.
It s just a commercial strategy of this industry because that s what is all about.
It s the same with Premier Jour. Sorry.

  67. :

very petally jasmine and subtly powdery violet at the beginning. Then it calms down to a fresh green and a bit ozonic fragrance. very clean, but not soapy at all. it reminds me of the fresh lovely breeze after rain in a valley filled with white flower blossoms.
after 10 mins on the tester paper, sweet and warm notes come out from vanilla and sandalwood.
after about an hour, the only thing left on the tester is just backnotes…

Bought this for my wife. It was a blind buy based on the comments here. And guess what, I am a superstar in my wife’s eye. She absolutely loved it. And she told me that she would love to take a bath in the perfume. So now I am searching for the bodywash if it is available ;D. My only problem with this perfume is the projection, which is not so great. Otherwise, it is a great buy. Thank you people for your comments. This site rocks!!!

Premier Jour by Nina Ricci is a crisp and refreshing floral on my skin, something that I tend to crave when the weather is unbearably hot.
I was first introduced to this fragrance by my best friend a few years ago. It was a part of her collection, however she never wore it. She was forever faithful to her signature Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana at that time, so she never dared to spritz on anything else. It’s a shame because this fragrance is actually quite beautiful.
On the day that I tested Premier Jour, I had one man approach me in a cafe to compliment me on how fresh and lovely I smelt. To my nose, the most dominant accords are mandarin orange, orchid, sandalwood, musk and the slightest hint of vanilla.
Premier Jour falls into the fresh and clean floral category. The top notes are a tad citrusy due to the mandarin orange, and the drydown is pleasantly smooth and sweet due to the woodsy vanilla blend. This fragrance is fairly light in terms of projection, so I doubt it could offend anyone within close proximity.
It’s quite an uplifting fragrance, hence the reason why I personally enjoy it more during Spring and Summer. I also adore its simplistic and crisp approach. Online discounters are selling this fragrance for a steal, so grab it while you can. I fear that it may have already been discontinued.

My fave for 15 years, from school prom to wedding day. Had so many compliments, particularly from males when wearing it.
Warm, romantic, comforting, soft, clean, seductive and oh so womanly. Empowering stuff, and excellent staying power. I just love it (can you tell?!)

reading all the reviews here and i bet someone would bash my head after reading my review for it’s a total opposite experience.
I had this as a gift, and it hates me. I don’t know why or what is it, but on me, it makes me smell like a cheap skank. It smells synthetic, with over-floral over-fruity that apparently poured into a blender by some 5yo, then put the mixture into the flacons, and im the unlucky soul to get one of those. Perhaps someone else got their flacons from an actual perfume master. It’s cloying, annoying, overwhelming, and gives me serious nausea.
Never wear it again, have it somewhere in my closet and I’ve made up my mind not to wear this ever ever ever again.

This is one of my favourite perfumes of all times. I went shopping the other day and 3 people stopped me to compliment and ask what perfume I was wearing. I was recommended this perfume by a friend some years back and now recommend to all of my friends also along with the people that compliment my fragrance.
Well done Nina Ricci for another great perfume. I also love Ricci Ricci but have just run out – boo hoo xxx

I bought this blindly, and I don’t regret it. It is just what I wanted: a tender, soft floral for spring and summer. It is quite light however and I have to spray on quite a lot to get some sillage.
Edit: Actually, maybe I sorta slightly regret it. I generally want my perfume to pack a bit more punch than this. Celeb fragrances and body splashes rival this in strength.
byantur, I think you should try Burberry London, the Elizabeth Arden Green Tea flankers, Crabtree & Evelyn Iris, or Lollia In Love.

    i’ve a story..
‘i entered a shopping mall and as usual visited the perfume store, they’d special opening for nina ricci premier jour and so i advanced towards the corner where
the testers and bottles were displayed. Just as i stepped forward an aromatic scent took over my senses, it was different and it grew stronger as i approached the
stall. I picked up a tester and knocked 2 sprays of the juice on my wrist and sniffed. The scent opened floral citrusy and spicy. It was hot that day and all of
sudden it started downpour outside, i stepped outdoor and the perfume merged with the rain to project a seductive aroma and i was turned on’
The scent opens up with citrus notes more of bergamot, mandarin and settles beautifully to floral gardenia. The bottle somehow may not be so feminine, as it has no
smooth edges, curves or cuts like other nina ricci perfume bottles have. The scent is really fresh n floral.

I have been wearing Premier Jour for the last ten years in summer and winter. I am not a heavy scent person. For the last 2-3 years I added Narcio Rodriguez for her EDP and Coco Mademoiselle EDP to my list for winters. I am in search of another one to wear in spring and summer now. I don’t want to smell too much, maybe what I want is a skin fragrance. Something not to sweet or too citrusy, something which doesn’t scream but linger in the air, something with real personality. I know that some people don’t think Premier Jour has some character but that was how I felt and people liked it on me.
Can you please give me some names?
    Thanks a bunch.

Straight out of the bottle there’s something alarmingly bitter about Premier Jour, I thought I had made a terrible mistake, but after a minute’s contact
