Description

The house of Jovoy Paris presented their collection which includes 7 perfumes in December 2007. Jovoy invites you to discover its definition of 7 great olfactory families, presented in a great perfume classic of the 30s, the Perlinette
bottle…

Each bottle is unique, like a baroque
pearl, and the “Tahitian pearl” lacquering
subtly changes to reflect the light (from metallic grey to the deepest purple).

To experience the 7 Essential Scents is also to share the meaning of the traditional values of French Craftsmanship.

There were a thousand and one ways to
express flowers, but Jovoy decided to
concentrate on their Powdery aspect to
reveal all the sensuality of the world of
flowers, creating an authentic skin perfume,
intimate and passionately feminine.

Poudre is a floral woody fragrance which opens with notes of mimosa, almond and violet. The heart introduces accords of iris root and rose, while the base notes contain vanilla and cedar. The perfume was created in cooperation with perfumer Jerome Epinette.

Reminds me of some vintage Guerlain or Caron that I can’t put my nose on. Sharp in the top. Violet, orris with some almond. Vanilla support but not prominence. Rose making it a bit sharper floral. Starts out a vintage floral, not soapy and with an underlying “powder” accord but not powdery in the sense of most vintages because the sharpness keeps it lifting.

Probably the strongest fragrance of the Les 7 Parfums Capitaux. A super-powdery orris / violet combo built around a clean rosy-woody base with vanillic / almondy facets. Sweet and traditional yet, somewhat, not classic. I believe one hasn’t to be surprised to smell powder from a fragrance called *Poudre* but I honestly think I smelled this accord probably 747.000 times. No no no.

Well, I have tested three perfumes of house Jovoy Paris –Poudrè, Rouge Assasin and Gardez Moi. Honestly and unfortunately I do not like any of them.
My favorite category of perfumes is powdery, so all perfumes which refers with notes or with the name to this category, I want to test and my expectations are always high.
Poudrè was not powdery at all, there are not listed aldehydes, but it seemed there should be… Neither hyacinth is not listed, but I felt something cold, metallic, very unpleasant. This sharp smell reminded the Bas de Soie, which contains hyacinth. Maybe it was the combo of mimosa and cedar, I do not know. Usually I like mimosa, it gives soft, honey-like vibe, but not here.
Maybe it’s my chemistry, but Poudrè did not meet my hopes.

Poudre concludes my Les 7 Parfums Capitaux testing experience, and in my humble opinion I’ve left the best till last.
I absolutely adore this blend of mimosa and almond. The result is a sweet, honeyed and powdery blend, one that wears so beautifully on the skin. As you would expect, Poudre is the epitome of soft and feminine.
I seem to detect a lot of juicy pear in this composition, although the note is not officially listed in this scent pyramid. It provides an even sweeter touch to an already sweet fragrance. Almond is always a sure winner for me, but in that regard Jovoy Paris has been clever in making this fragrance stand-out by adding more complex accords to further compliment the powdery almond.
Poudre would be a great scent to layer with, but I don’t mind saying that I enjoy it on its own too. It’s a fairly strong fragrance on my skin, with sillage worth an applause. Although despite its strength, I find it fairly inoffensive.
Poudre is easily the most feminine fragrance from this series. It’s the kind of scent that manages to conjure up images of pink, fluffy clouds and glamorous boudoirs.
The lasting power is excellent, certainly better than I thought it would be. I will be returning to this fragrance during Winter and Autumn, as I believe they are the best seasons to wear Poudre. A fragrance I would definitely recommend.

smells almost exactly like Guerlain l’instant, but sweeter and much more dry powder and not at all syrupy like L’instant. I imagine the inside of a platinum blonde 50’s glamour-girl’s satin handbag smelled exactly like this perfume.

I liked it when I test-sprayed it. I thought in the top-notes it was nicely powdery with a bit of a sweet scent involved. Could be a daytime or office scent – I thought. When I had a 20ml sample of it, I could not finish it and gave it away. The drydown on me turned out to be very sour and old-lady-like. I couldn’t stand it at all. It got really heavy and wouldn’t have been good for the office at all.

I have to admit that I am enjoying this one more and more… I liked it from the start but found it a bit pale and with lack of personality. It took a while for me to discover what a comfy, feminin and sothing fragrance this is. If you like tender and feminin florals that lingers softly around you, I recommend this one.

This seems so wonderful to me! Sounds like the perfect evening fragrance. Or is it something to wear in the office too? Unfortunately Jovoy is (still) not available in my country… I’m really dying to try this!

Classic and also modern. Powdery, but none too sweet. It remember me my beloved perfume Josephine of Rance. Poudre Jovoy is as a beautiful, subtle, elegant, femine powder-flower shal. I would like wear such as this on my arms.

A nice, tender and very feminine fragrance. The fragrance make me think about pale flowers painted in watercolour.
The violet in this is so soft and beautiful. A pleasant and comforting fragrance, unfortunatly not so longlasting on me.

Poudre is truly very feminine fragrance with velvet flowers, sweet a bit, with pleasant woodsy and vanilla undertones.
The fragrance is very light, classy but not retro. Violet and iris are very beautiful and subtle in it.
