Description

Last year Nautica launched two flankers for men, Nautica Acqua Rush Gold, successor to Acqua Rush and Nautica Voyage N-83, successor to Nautica Voyage from 2006. For a change, Nautica presents a new fragrance for men this year, which certainly does not move far from the marine theme of the whole brand, by linking the free spirit and masculine energy with aromatic and sea notes full of strong character and freshness.

Composition of the new edition Nautica Life has been announced as fresh and direct, dedicated to the sea, love, passion, freedom and adventures. Its composition was created as a romantic blend with a bunch of freshness combined with mysterious herbal flavors and seductive woody notes. It is available in cylindrical glass flacons in pale blue color with an interesting detail of a boat rope inside the flacon, serving as a pipe for the spray.

Nautica Life arrives as 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toillete accompanied with perfumed body spray. The photographer of the advertising spray is John Balsom, and the model in the ad is Justice Joslin.
Nautica Life was launched in 2014.

it has a bleu de chanel vibe but much lighter and fresher….like an aquatic version of Bleu….also has a vibe of david beckham classic blue, not bad for the price, longevity is moderate…which makes it great gym scent or after shower office scent

Today I broke out my summer rotation of citrus, aquatic, clean/sporty fragrances with a few masculine floral ones as well. I decided to wear Nautica Life first because I bought it last winter and never wore it before. At first it reminded me of Guess, it’s very green but more aquatic than Guess. It also reminded me of many Adidas scents with its sport clean vibe. I was not impressed. However, it’s a fragrance that’s hard to dislike. Back in the 90’s before the aquatic faze this would be very popular like Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger once was. However, today, it’s just blah. Nothing memorable. It’s priced right at about $18 for 3.4oz, but any higher would not be worth it. I prefer Nautica Voyage over this. The longevity of Nautica Life is not good on my skin. It’s gone within an hour. But I do get better longevity on clothes. All in all I rate this average. I have about 40+ other summer fragrances I would prefer to wear. I’ll probably give this away because I got bored of it quickly.

Classy bottle. The bottle came in a package so I could not test it first. It wasn’t too expensive so I sprang for it. While the bottle is class, the scent is so weak. I can spray away and barely pick up anything. While the bottle is cool. I do not buy fragrances for the bottle, that sits at home. I buy fragrances to smell good and get ladies attention. This fragrance fails at that so I would pass.

Bought it for a good friend`s partner for birthday – he is mad for Chanel Bleu, but finds it pricey. Now that the summer months are coming I thought that he would prefer this one and I found it at a ridiculously low price in a local drugstore ( I should have bought all of the bottles in the store in fact..) and I was right: he absolutely loves it! He says it does resemble, but it will be better for the summer months. Hope it will grow on him..:-D

Nautica Life is a keeper for me. It cost me a whole $12 shipped to my door, serious bang for your buck. Yes, it does smell like a lighter, aquatified Bleu de Chanel so haters are going to bash it for being unoriginal. I bought BdC blind years ago. I thought it was ok at first but the more I wore it the more I didn’t like it. I think because it wore too heavy for me. I enjoy wearing Life much more.
It’s pretty strong for the first 15 minutes and then dies down considerably. I feel like I get about 6 hours for longevity but others smell it on me after I can’t so it actually lasts longer than that.
For those who are complaining about the longevity, it’s a twelve dollar fragrance! You can afford to get some empty decant sprayers and take it with you to reapply if necessary.
The bottle is also nice for such a cheapy though the plastic submerged rope looks a little cheesy in person.

Nautica Life is a typical Nautica fragrance, an inoffensive green aquatic scent with some citrus… except it is a Bleu de Chanel style scent. It maybe far stripped down version of lighter and spring/summer ready. It is a sportier option to BdC.
The notes are a bit off, here’s the explanation from the Nautica website: Of all the thrilling adventures he has embarked on, this is the one that means the most. Nautica Life pays tribute to the lifelong journey of love. The fragrance starts with pure sparkling Living Sea Salt and Organic Ivory Coast Ginger for an invigorating splash of energy and balances a fusion of Natural Sage, Provence Lavender and Natural Violet Leaf to reinforce the masculine aura. The finish: classic notes of refined Hinoki Wood, Organic Tonka and marine Seamoss create a seductive sense of magnetism.
It is opens with some sea salt but with a mostly ginger (where the spice fall into place) note along with a little bit of citrus from a grapefruit note. It also has traces of an herbal green with sage and lavender. The base contains woody notes with tonka bean and a little seamoss.
The performance of this BdC smell alike is a strong point for this discount Nautica scent. The open lasts about a half of an hour to an hour as does the mid. The base remains for about three more hours. The It projects strangely heavily for about half of an hour to an hour even an hour and a half. It is about a wingspan of sillage giving about moderate if not heavy sillage. For the remaining time, it is a skin scent.
The scent is NOT as formal BdC, it is far more casual for work, the beach and errand settings and maybe better for sports, especially as it becomes a skin scent. Can it be used for dates, sure but it isn’t as good of one as BdC. I find that it is very good during the day, especially spring, summer and early fall.
Now for the question is Nautica Life better than BdC, it’s complicated… If you look at pricing, as I normally do, it’s about even mainly because Nautica Life is far more limited in use than BdC and has a lower performance, despite the price discount. I do like both scents but I recognize Nautica Life performs more Nautica than BdC which isn’t a bad thing. Few smell alikes perform to the exact level of the original.
Nautica Life is a really nice casual by the seas scent however I cannot rate it as good as Bleu de Chanel. I have to rate it a 7.3. It is better than a good number of scents but as I mentioned the performance issues outweight the price discount. I found this for about $12 for a 3.4oz/100ml tester and feel that if I paid more than $20, I would have paid too much for a 3.4oz/100ml bottle. In other words, DON’T PAY WAL-MART PRICES for this one.

A spicy green woody scent. Pretty much linear. But it does smell nice and fresh.
Light on its feet and won’t offend in any way that I could imagine.
To me it is NOT an aquatic. It’s a fresh green scent with some warmth.
Longevity is average, sillage is light to moderate and soon becomes a skin scent.
Packaging is somewhat nostalgic and attractive.

Cool looking bottle, which is probably why I bought it. But the fragrance is very quiet and doesnt last long.

Bleu De Chanel meets Nautica Blue!
That’s what this scent is – half Nautica Blue, half Bleu De Chanel. It smells great! This is my favorite Nautica yet!
Unfortunately, as with other colognes these days, longevity is the issue. Wearing this today, I’m very happy with the scent (applied at 8:30am) however now at 2pm it’s all but gone aside from a very faint trace on my skin.
This will generally be a daytime scent however I could also see this making a very safe option for a date night, if it fits your personality (sporty) and you’re trying not to offend anyone.
In my opinion it would make a great signature daytime scent for the average guy. Maybe not for a fragrance fanatic, but for an average guy who likes to smell good at the office or after going to the gym. Especially considering the Bleu/Blue similarities.
For the price, this is one you could easily keep a refresher bottle with you to spray on throughout the day. Normally, I wouldn’t say something could be a signature scent unless it lasted all day, but given the price and availability, I’ll make an exception for this one.

I guess I’m one of the few that like this, and don’t really love voyager….It’s a clean straight forward scent. I think if you understand what you’re getting, and you don’t expect too much for a cologne that can be easily had for less than 20 bucks this will work fine for you. I know a lot of people don’t like it, but for what it is, and what it’s available for, it does fine for me. Not gonna blow the doors off, but it is definitely serviceable…
    all things considered 3.5/5

Tried this today on a card at a local department store. I enjoyed it even after a few hours on the card. Seems to work well for summer time as it was a rather warm day. Wouldn’t mind adding this to my collection if I could get it on the cheap (which it seems I can).

I want to like this one more because I think there was potential for this to be better but at the end of the day you can tell corners were cut and this is just a cheaply made cologne. It’s not the worst I have put my nose on and it certainly won’t offend anyone but it’s not a diamond in the rough like some under the radar cheapies. If you are a collector I would definitely recommend passing. This one is more for the teen looking to upgrade from cheap bodysprays or someone who isn’t into colognes much but just wants something that won’t break the bank and smells fresh/clean.

Great teen scent. I don’t understand why every one be hat in on the scent. It last a good while and smells great. Smells a lot like Fierce by A&F

I can’t believe how many very long reviews there are for a scent like this. Hilarious !

I basically came to say what the reviewer below me said. I have also heard this referred to as a cheaper Bleu de Chanel, and while that is essentially true to a degree, it is very much short-selling and over-simplifying this fragrance.
I wrote a rather negative review about this fragrance’s flanker, Nautica Life Energy. While my opinion is generally the same, I think I may have been a bit hard on this fragrance. There is very little difference between this and Life Energy, but after a few more trials with “Life”, I have come to like it for it’s simplicity. It doesn’t really “try” to do anything but smell good and be accessible, which it fully accomplishes. It is a warm, clean, somewhat aquatic scent that is not cloying or astringent in anyway.
This much I can tell you truthfully, after many, many trials with this scent: people will compare it to Bleu de Chanel but this is more accurately like a “compliment” to BdC. It smells like a warm, more herbal version of Bleu de Chanel. It is very similar, but has a completely different “spirit”. If BdC is cool, blue, “yin”…then Nautica Life is a warm, orange, “yang”. Honestly, that’s the best way I can describe it. It is similar, but more in the way of a fraternal twin as opposed to an identical twin. I would wear this in the exact opposite situations as I would wear BdC. Wear Bleu for night, cool weather, dates (intimate). Wear Life during the day, mild weather, social engagements (socially).
You will also catch yourself whiffing it off your wrist or chest all day and really enjoy it. Great longevity and perfect sillage. These are two things Nautica does well, despite generally lackluster originality. It certainly won’t replace “Voyage” in terms of uniqueness, but it is a great stand in for something different, simple and longer-lasting.
TL;DR- While not necessarily “signature scent” worthy, this is the warmer, cheaper, more accessible “yang” to Bleu de Chanel’s “yin”. Not thrilling upon first whiff, but it wears so well you may just consider adding it to your wardrobe as an inexpensive day-to-day “go to” scent. Not overly trendy but not overly “classic” either. A great middle of the road scent with great performance, suitable for just about anything.

Probably the safest scent ever created; fresher version of a scented bodywash. I kept thinking old spice here but no I got it now it reminds me of Irish Spring which is why I think bodywash. Must be the green notes. To me you literally smell like you just walked out of a shower when wearing this. FWIW I think Irish Spring smells fantastic so that’s a good thing imo, but I still like Voyage better than this. It’s cheap though so it’d be pretty hard to regret buying it.
Wear it to middle school, high school, wear it grocery shopping, wear it at church, wear it on a road trip, wear it to the gym, wear it cycling/running.
Poor man’s bleu de chanel like people say? Maybe, still fresher though. And green. Very green.
Very simple but nice smell, nice bottle, nice usability, nice age range (12-40)
7.5 out of 10- wait what did you say? It’s $17 for 100ml?
    8.5/10. NICE.

Nautica Life is boot camp casserole. It seems to me to be a generic scent that smells a lot like others you have smelled before. It is cologny, short lived, and poorly blended and I do not think the nose behind it even wants their name on the product and you cannot find the noses’ name listed on Fragrantica.
I am reviewing this from samples from Sephora. I am a fan of Nautica and they have 17 fragrances for men listed in the Fragrantica database and I do own 9 of the bottles of them. I do not like reviews based on samples but I am familiar with the house of Nautica and can easily rate this one based on comparisons with a dozen others from the house. Nautica Life is the newest in their line and the most disappointing of all 17. This to me smells like a mixture of Invictus and Bleu de Chanel and then watered down by at least 50%. It smells about 1/3 as good as BDC and lasts 1/2 as long and it smells about 1/2 as good as Invictus and lasts 1/3 as long. Others could easily suggest it smelled like dozens of other fragrances except more poorly done and they would not be wrong. Im not a huge fan of BDC and there is zero reason to buy this over that one. Even Invictus is a better buy than Nautica Life and its a choke gasp cough to admit it.
It just seems like Nautica took leftovers that were a hit in the past, added some very generic notes and scents to it that also are popular, watered it down a good bit so they could market it as an aquatic, and then stuck it in a newish bottle and called it their new product. Its easy for Aquatics to get lazy. Salt water is not an expensive note to add to a fragrance. Oceans are full of it. I expect more from Aquatics and houses that specialize in it like Nautica because its a category thats very easy to do badly.
You often hear reviewers talk about blending and how something was wonderfully blended. Well this one is an example of poor blending. Just because you have popular notes doesnt mean that you can lump them together and call it a day. Just because I like Strawberries and I like Chili and I like Popcorn doesnt mean that I want them all stuck in a blender and then a button pushed …. zrrrrrr . and say hello to your smoothie. If you hear about a fragrance being well blended then by comparison it suggests that some are not. And this one runs a flag up that pole and salutes.
It is so very disappointing to see second rate fragrances come out when the house is discontinuing some really good fragrances. Nautica reissued Competition and I applaud them for it. But why do they need to bring this junk out when they could re-release Sunset Voyage which sells for $80 on Ebay, or Summer Voyage, or even White Sail. Oceans was just a ground breaking fragrance and even that one is becoming hard to find these days as the 3 ounce bottles sell for close to $100 on ebay.
To be honest about the matter, Its not unfair to suggest that Nautica Life should be categorized in the same realm as workout scents like Yachtman, and Adidas. And there are $7-$8 mass merchandise type scents that easily work as well or better than this one does.
Price and value always gets a nod in my reviews. Nautica Life retails for about $7 an ounce. I expect 6 hours of life out of designer and this one has such poor performance that I would say it would be lucky to give you half of your expectations. Overall, I would rate the “true” cost of this fragrance out at $15 an ounce. $20 is the standard reference that I go by for designer and there are dozens if not hundreds of fragrances in this price range that are superior in scent, quality, and performance.
Overall, I am going to grade this out at 57 and slap it with a dislike on this site. If you blind bought it, it might be equal to not wearing any cologne, or barely an upgrade. Even reviewing it briefly from samples, it is poorly blended, has a “generic” smell, is a poor value, and costs twice as much as most Adidas scents which are actually better. It is one of if not the biggest miss in Nautica fragrance history. And as much as Pure is reviled this one might be as bad or worse. In fact, I think that it is. 57 is kind and if I did not really like Nautica as much as I do then it might be a good fair bit less.
I began this review by saying this is Boot Camp Casserole. This is what you get when the cook in the kitchen looks at what he has sitting around and about to go bad and shoves it all together with some pasta and too much spice to mute the bland flavor. I do not see many people that sample or try this out first, eventually buying it.
So its only disciples are those that blind buy it, find it heavily discounted and give it a go or are true Nautica collectors and completists. I am a completist and Nautica is my most owned line and most used house and most worn and I have zero desire to own, collect, or use this fragrance. Rarely a week goes by without wearing some Nautica at least once. I do not want Life even to be sitting on my fragrance doghouse shelf.
Voyage is beloved in the community. N-83 is my most complimented fragrance in the Nautica line. I am a fan of Gold Rush and Pure Discovery and I enjoy and wear the Classic and Blue versions. Oceans is innovative and I respect it. And my bottle of White Sail is well liked and Im a bit sad because I own only a little one ounce bottle of it and its going to hit empty soon and will be missed. In my opinion, there is no reason to discontinue Sunset Voyage, Latitude, Island Voyage, and Regatta and throw them to the back of the fridge till they start to turn and then bring out a new dish of leftovers. You have a Maurice Roucel created scent like Island Voyage that is discontinued and selling for $130 a bottle on Ebay and then you see this “Nautica Life” come out as a new release and it is a bogey on the greens of a $7 miniature golf putt of Yachtman. Its so disappointing to see a beloved fragrance house push out slop just because they hope fans of the house will pull plastic for past reputation.
I suppose that one could buy a “worse” fragrance. But its not hard to find even a dozen Nautica fragrances that are better than this that already exist. Id rather even buy and wear some of their womens line than Nautica Life. I find no reason to want to buy or wear this fragrance. If I was starving and had no other options then Boot Camp Casserole would be something I could force down. But its not something that I would consider as a desirable choice, outside of being choiced with pushups if I refused its merits. Throw a rock at anything labelled Nautica. You will find something else that is better. Heck throw a rock at Adidas or Yachtman. NuParfums “Black is Black Sport” kicks Nautica Life’s butt and you can easily find it for $10 or half its price. Maybe Im being harsh based on samples but I couldn’t see myself wanting to buy a full bottle just in hope that I might like it better in the future.
This has virtually no value in the world of fragrance. It ranks 17th out of 17 mens Nautica fragrances. Seriously, why would a fragrance company bring out something that is obviously inferior to the other 16 they already have? Even the most jaded of Nautica fan boys would rather see a good half dozen discontinued scents brought back into production rather than a slop child introduced so that they would have one more to collect. Nautica collectors should choose this one last if they want to “finish” the collection. Otherwise I personally see absolutely zero reason for others to want this swill on their plastic trays.

Just found a 100ml bottle of this for $20 @ TJ Maxx. I figured for the price, i’d be nuts not to give it a shot. I’m huge fan of Voyage minus longevity issues and i’m a fan of Nautica clothing & ties. As a Maine commercial lobster fisherman that has lived his whole life in a fishing village on the Atlantic Ocean, Nautica’s whole image just clicks for me. Even if their frags are produced by Coty, they’ll always have a spot in my collection.
With that said, let me get into Nautica Life. 1st of all, excellent bottle design. Out of all of the Nautica frags, this is the one that is truly nautical in design. The rope covering the sprayer tube is mint. The bottle cap is made to look like brass which is what many nautical items/navigational tools are made of especially for sail boats.
The scent: I do indeed get the Bleu de Chanel vibe but it is not a carbon copy. Nautica Life is very citrusy but also spicy. Life has more spice than BDC imo. I find Life more interesting than BDC honestly.
This scent is perfect for summer. I would recommend Life for day time anything wether it be dates, causal gatherings, work etc. I live 30 mins from Bar Harbor, Maine, which is a very popular vacation town on the coast and this scent screams “Bar Harbor/Acadia summer” to me. L.L. Bean button down shirt, khaki shorts, boat shoes, & Nautica Life. Perfect
    summer set up.
I’ll post an update on performance later on. A+ on everything else so far!

Ill have to re-review this when Ive given this a full wearing but ill post my quick thoughts on this after applying 1 hr ago.
So far its a pretty decent scent but I do have to say this is VERY similar to Bleu de chanel. The main differences is Nautica life is more smooth, green and less spicy than Bleu de chanel and I honestly like the smell of this a little bit better.
Its decent but theres better nautica frags than this but I will keep this in my rotation because I loved the opening and mid notes of bleu de chanel but after 1 hr once it reached the base notes bleu de chanel just smelled like an old pool on me, whereas Nautica Life smells good from beginning to end
    RE-REVIEW
Well my thoughts on this are pretty much the same as my initial thoughts on this fragrance. This is pretty much a sportier/greener Bleu De Chanel knockoff ! With that said its still a great fragrance and it got me a lot of compliments at work and my gf loves this and always compliments me on this as well, which after wearing a lot of different frags its hard for scents to stick out anymore.
So in a nutshell. If you liked Bleu De Chanel but it was to mature or spicy for you than you HAVE to try this, OR if you love Blue De Chanel but want a cheaper alternative for casual wear than you will love this as well.
Performance on this is above average. It lasts on me about 5-8 hours and has very good projection going on for up to 4 hours on my skin.
All in all id have to rate this a 7.5 out of 10 ! Great scent with very good performance ! Id rate this higher if it wasnt a knockoff

I have to purchase this one at the lowest price possible….because of the amazing dry down. initially it smells nice aqua blue and clean but nothing too special. after an hour i catch wisps of an awesome golden aqua dry down that projects about 2-3 feet.

A big let down from Nautica! I though they could manage to make another smash hit like Voyage but this was by far one of their most unoriginal scents yet (And Nautica makes some pretty bad ones). All I got was a watery spicy woodsy smell that did not evoke any response from me except “meh” and “that’s it?” I will stick to Voyage for now. Sorry Nautica…

    Informed review after multiple wears
Nautica Life is a wonderfully sweet aquatic aromatic that is somewhat confused on what it wants to be. Upon first spray, the wearer is doused in a candied fragrance that overwhelms and overloads the senses without compassion.
This lasts for about five minutes or so, until it dries down into a slightly more manageable scent that loses its cloying trait, but still stays sweet and fresh. From here, it is actually pleasant as it perches on the skin, projecting decently for a few feet or so.
This is possibly the best part of the fragrance. It is sweet. It is fresh. It is desirable.
Unfortunately, it is not unique. I could literally place about four other fragrances (many within my own collection) that were incredibly similar, if not indistinguishable, from Nautica life. To me, it was a slightly fresher version of Mont Blanc Legend, or an even more inferior version of A&F Fierce with aquatic undertones.
It was virtually confused on all accounts, while still trying to maintain ambiguous and desirable while pleasing all crowds. This scent, by all definitions, is the purest form of fragrantial demogogue. It appeals to popularity, but accomplishes little else.
The projection was good….for about the first hour. Then it died to a skin scent, and I had to literally press my nose to my arm to smell it.
The longevity is poor, if not below average. After three to four hours, I could barely tell there was anything left. It was like a ghost, leaving extremely subtle, if not undetectable remnants of itself to be sensed.
Buy, try or pass? This is a PASS for me. It cannot hold itself erect for long enough to even warrant an evening wear for myself, and it is not unique enough to earn a spot in my collection. It is conflicted, confused, and frankly unoriginal.
I hate to say it, but if you are looking for a sweet aromatic with some hints of woods or aquatic, instead look toward Mont Blanc Legend. At least you will get some decent longevity from this scent without sacrificing performance. The originality is still not there, but you will most likely still be smelling Legend when lunch rolls around.
Take my word for it- try this one if you like, but don’t fall for its overly sweet tones and attractive top notes. It will disappoint you in the long run.
Projection: 3/10 (Good for first hour, then falls flat)
Longevity: 4/10 (3-5 hours; 5 hours is being generous)
Versatility: 4/10 (A nice summer fragrance, if you can get it to last)
Overall smell: 5/10 (Sweet, but unoriginal)
