the people saying this doesn’t smell/project/last are the same people that buy all their fragrances at tj maxx. this is not a sophisticated fragrance that the real ones will appreciate for its simplicity. it’s also great for layering with fragrances that under perform. this really brings out the beauty in other fragrances with subtle differences. if you have a sensitive nose or get headaches from loud fragrances this is a must have.

the other day i got my worse reaction to this scent and it was really surprising but this guy had a wicked good nose.
(this is still imo a staple to ANYONE’s collection man/woman I think this is something everyone needs even if they don’t immediately love it, even if sometimes ppl will say it smells like a hamster cage, eventually it changes into something really special even though it’s just 1 note)
I sprayed about 7 sprays before work maybe a 20 min drive and yeah I always notice when this thing smells animalic / hamster cage / pencil shaving and that first hour it almost always gives off that scent to me before it really blends in with my body chemistry.
So there i am and i am maybe 6-7 ft from this guy, i walk even FURTHER away and he turned to another co-worker and says “WTF! It smells like CedarWood! Like a Hamster Cage holy crap!”
I was literally shocked that someone smelled this and point blank knew exactly what it was so of course i was a lil embarrassed that he smelled me from so far and it was that noticeable (things usually project off my skin pretty hardcore so i just didn’t think molecule 01 was but i guess it’s not any exception) so i told him Wow you have a really great nose that you could pinpoint that note so acutely. He told me how great senses of smell run in his family and told me about his dad and grandpa and how they could do pretty cool things with their smellavision (i always thought tv shows were making this stuff up tbh lol but i guess not)
That first hour and a half can be pretty brutal with this fragrance, i even tried layering it with a spray of Tommy just to make it a lil less animalic because after 2 hrs it smells so effing good off my skin and projects like a champ for hours and hours but i guess there is for sure some negatives here that can’t be ignored.
This was my 2nd worse reaction from someone else ever to a fragrance. Not everyone has super projecting skin like i do so hey maybe it won’t be too bad for other ppl idk?
Still love this fragrance though and i wear it almost everyday and layer it with almost anything and it becomes glorious so gotta take the lumps sometimes to smell great!

@ BIG JIM, Molecule 1 can be had, cloned, for a song on Ebay. If you shop around there are a few bargains that are 75% less than the name brand.
It’s only constituents are perfumers alcohol and Iso E Super so it’s ridiculously simple and CHEAP to make.
It smells mainly like Cedar on it’s own but as a fixative it takes on the character of the frags you choose to layer it with.
Below you’ll find my review of this an an Ebay link.

wondering if anyone has any experience with this from any of the clone houses? ELIXIRS OF EDEN has it for $30 waiting for it to arrive & will add it to this thanks in advance JIM from MIAMI BEACH

Weak, weak sillage, no longevity. I’d have to pour the whole sample on myself to detect anything resembling a scent. Checked on both female and male skin. Doesn’t strengthen another weak perfume, either. I’m glad I checked the sample, because for the price literally any perfume is better.

(Edit:I just re-read this and it comes across as angry? Please read it as good natured?)
Look, it’s a whole lot easier for all of you as buyers to stop regarding this as the brand name of a fragrance… please just read the chemical description of the one and only note in this…
    ISO E SUPER.
… just that, nothing else, just in a dilution of approximately 8-10% I believe?
The MSG(mono sodium glutamate) of the fragrance world.
    Please.
There is no mystery, no magic, just read up.
Science was not my forte at school and I have so much admiration for the noses who we constantly judge for their creations. What an ability to play with 1000’s of chemical variations to transport us to ethereal splendour… So easy to criticise on the instant, I’m just as guilty, but I try to research for an informed opinion at least.
    Sorry. Long day.

I can definitely smell it. I keep getting wafts of it every now and then especially if I move around. It’s a weird one, but it I love the scent. It’s very light but pleasant.

To me there are a few fragrance types that all ppl should have regardless of age/sex and this fills all of those in a really simplistic way.
The opening isn’t really a opening, its just a alcohol smell not a big deal
Mid you start getting that woody note that is prominent
but when you get to that really deep dry down mark at maybe 1-2 hr mark that woody smell evolves into a very creamy wood smell but also it has some feeling of a gorgeous musk
Longevity is good but very hard to judge accurately, even if you aren’t fully aware of it radiating; the scent trail / projection is also very very good and i think that’s why this garnishes so much attention as well as compliments because even though this does project very well and lasts very long it doesn’t do it in a obnoxious way; people who smell our fragrances when we wear them not always want something that is so strong they can’t help but to smell it (looking at your Eros)
so yeah you get something that is just pleasant, relaxing very smooth and it has that effect where its just super nice
i would say this is a very nice fragrance and since the price drop over the past 2 years it’s actually not something you have to talk yourself into buying anymore.
I paid 76 USD and free shipping, this fragrance on some sites still sells for over 100 and at one point in time this fragrance was like 200+ USD
this is something i’m going to wear to work daily and when i just think that i need to stand out but not in a way that modern fragrance tells us to
This is honestly a solid 8/10 if you are looking at the scent as a whole and not just breaking down each phase but kind of just averaging them out.
The opening doesn’t really open until it starts drying down which isn’t really something common in perfume and it changes dramatically in scent the longer it’s on your skin
The challenge of wearing this fragrance to me is just about letting it evolve on your skin because the longer it’s on your skin the better it smells.
So 8/10 but i could see ppl giving this higher marks just because it is flat out revolutionary in modern perfume it’s such a simplistic fragrance but evolves more than a lot of fragrances that have so many notes they can’t even list all of them.
p.s. just tried this with a little of PVI and it’s really nice, i can see why ppl enjoy layering this with other fragrance but i still think it’s good enough on it’s own but it does enhance other fragrances very nicely so that’s just another + to this price point

    3rd initial wearing !
At first I was skeptical of this scent because I heard you could get iso e super cheap from ebay so I bought a 5 ml decant from Ebay for very cheap. When the package arrived and I sprayed the iso e super it smelled horrible and smelled like a hamster cage and was very strong. Even after an hour it seemed as if the smell got worse !
So fast forward 1 year later I still keep seeing reviews about how great this stuff is so I decided to get a sample of the real deal and am glad I am. From molecule 01 I still get that hamster cage in the beginning but after about 5 minutes it blends with my skin chemistry and in the air I get a really smooth, velvety sandalwood type scent that’s actually very nice ! Up close if I really try to smell I still kind of get that unpleasant hamster cage smell but it’s very faint. This stuff really is working in my world and I’m curious to see how if this will get compliments.
Also I’ve blended this Cuba Gold and Prada Black nd it’s done very well with both scents. With Cuba Gold it made the scent just a little more smooth and less cheap smelling and with Prada Black it made it even smoother, more rich and aromatic. It definitely makes the scent pop !
Overall rating -8 out of 10 ! This has delivered so far but that could change of course since it’s only been 3 wearings.

I can vouch for the magic of Molecule 01. Here are some features of it:
+ Light scent of cedar wood mixed with sandalwood (more cedar than sandalwood though)
+ Can spray yourself dozens of times and it will not choke anyone out
+ Close to beast mode longevity
+ Impressive sillage that pops up off of the skin; other people will notice the scent from quite the distance
+ High complement factor due to the alluring and mysterious nature of the scent
+ Layers well with other fragrances to boost longevity and sillage (use as a base)
    – Hard to detect up close; the scent will feel like it comes and goes due to catching whiffs from your own scent trail
    – A very linear fragrance with only one note
    – The price; there are people who claim that they can get ISO E Super and make this themselves at a much lower cost
I personally love love love this fragrance. Once you understand it and what it is trying to do, you grow to really appreciate the effectiveness of Molecule 01. I actually prefer it on its own rather than layering. The subtle and unassuming nuance is perfect for certain situations where you want to go under the radar but still smell intriguing.
I found that spraying this on my shoulders, I can smell within my shirt and really get the essence of the fragrance. That light woodsy scent is sublime. I then experimented and put it on both of my wrists, let the fragrance cook on my skin, and when moving about, that is when I caught whiffs. On a breezy day, it really carries.
I suspect that this is a bloomer in that it is more noticeable the further away it gets. It needs to “travel” a bit and pop off of your skin to really shine. I think it requires some movement. It is almost like the scent trail itself is what people notice and not the aura you produce. That is why so many “compliments” I have gotten with this scent started with “hmmmmm, something smells wonderful” without pinpointing that it was actually coming from me.
An easy 9.5/10. I would give it a 10, but I have to admit that the linear nature of the fragrance does not put it in the very upper echelons. Cedar and sandalwood are some of my favorite notes. I look forward to trying out Molecule 04 in the near future.

i call this the Harry Houdini, the magician of fragrance family…its so weird…how it works..you sniff it and then you dont…for hours it plays with your senses.people around you can detect it for sure but many people cant detect it on their own skin.opens up with alcohol which is the only part i dont like about it..price they are asking is justified for this cool concept.good to layer with other frags.i get mild cedar, iso e super and i dont know why i get datura flowers from it 🙂
    super cool stuff…9/10

This was one of my daily fragrances in the last couple of years. I even got a second bottle earlier this year, but as I delve farther back into fragrances, I have moved away from 01.
It does go on strongly as alcohol but then quickly turns creamy and slightly powdery on my skin. I loved its faint references to sandalwood, but the sillage is almost nonexistent. I really have to bring my skin to my nose to smell it. I can’t seem to enjoy it very much. It’s very faint and for others, it’s hit or miss. Some people can’t smell it, some do and won’t say they dislike it due to politeness, and in my friend circle, one person absolutely loves it. When I catch a glimpses of it on my skin, I love it too. Not a consistent hit so I think I’ll finish what I have and perhaps look at other Escentric offerings since I have the travel case.

I thought this was such a brilliant idea… and then I bought it and wore it and… nothing. I’m disheartened because I wanted so much for this to be “one of those skin-sexy scents that makes you want to nestle into it” – “to create an indefinable aura.” That sounds so cool, right? It just didn’t develop on me. There was no scent at all. It didn’t come and go throughout the day… it just left and never came back.

I bought the Escentric Molecules discovery set.
I’ve just sprayed Molecule 01 and on me the opening smells like a lighter version of By the Fireplace, that means a bit more on the musk side than woody side.
Whereas By the Fireplace is more woody and deeper + stronger.
Will update after a few hours of wear…
UPDATE AFTER 30 min : it just smells a fainted cedar on me.
If I wanted cedar, I would purchase a plain cedar fragrance instead of Molecule 01
UPDATE 40 min after initial spray : I don’t smell anything anymore.
If I don’t update my comment, this will mean that I didn’t experience the magic of other people smelling Molecule 01 around me when I do not smell anything myself.
Personally I don’t invest in fragrances that last 30 min. So this would be a big fail for me.
Also I own By the Fireplace so I can enjoy the opening of Molecule 01 the whole day and night (By the Fireplace is a longevity beast !)
For this 1st trial, I am glad I only got the discovery set and didn’t invest in a travel size bottle of Molecule 01.

It took me a while to consider what really do I smell…Drawing shavings…ashes there is something about in this fragrance. Something dark, sometimes corn, maybe a little salty. I do not like it but I smell it all the time. Strange.

Was on a trip to England, London. Tested this one, just due to the hype.
I ended up smelling like cheap laundry detergent and I could not wash it away. My wife told me that I smelled like the fragrance that’s added to cat-litter.
I don’t understand all the hype, neither the price. “Reacts to your own skin”. I’ll stick to Hermes.
ISO E was used and developed a looong time ago. It’s added to several other fragrances, that people aren’t aware of.

Iso E Super is known to have a subtle and silky scent with cedar nuances. This velvety feature, when mixed with other ingredients, can result in nuances of amber, patchouli, and even flowers.
Nowadays, people talk about the use of this molecule in fragrances created about 40 years ago. But it was in Fahrenheit (Dior), released in 1988, that the Iso E Super came to life in a composition. At the time, no one would list this ingredient in its olfactory pyramid, but currently, it is public knowledge that the perfumer used about 25% in the composition of a fragrance that became one of the biggest hits of the world regarding men’s perfumes.
In Molecule 01, the perfumer Geza Schoen worked this ingredient fully, with the goal of creating a product that could reveal itself according to the reaction on the skin of each individual. But, in my opinion, there is a lot more marketing involved in the process than anything else. I say this because there is a huge hype built on it, promising to be an attractive perfume, worked like pheromones, idolized by several international stars, etc. But when you research the opinions of other users and some reviewers (including international ones), the truth is different and what it reveals is not totally positive. That’s when I discovered that I was not alone in my critical analysis.
Molecule 01 touches the skin with a very strong smell of alcohol. Immediately, you think you have been cheated. But calm down, because alcohol is just the vehicle used by the molecule. Quickly, it disappears and you get a wonderful smell of nothing on the skin. That’s right: NOTHING! Then, as if a magic happens, you begin to feel a soft fragrance, which dances between sweet, dry and woody nuances. And the most incredible thing is that this smell keeps coming and going, driving the brain crazy for more than 12 hours in a row, which is a point to be exalted.
I wore it several times and the softness was a common point at all times. If someone says that Molecule 01 is a bomb, you should doubt, since Iso E Super is known for its smoothness. What it does best is to highlight the beauty of the other notes in other fragrances, therefore you will only be able to highlight what your skin (and its natural smell) wants to show.
What I think is cool in this creation are the innumerable possibilities, because it works very well in layerings with other more volatile fragrances, which usually last for a short time. And also gives an exaggerated tone in woody notes, which always fits well into masculine colognes.
In closing, it’s worth noting that sometimes you will not smell anything for a long time, but some people who come close will feel it. It is strange, but it happens, and it is not related to olfactory fatigue. It is chemistry and is part of the reaction of the molecule.
In a nutshell, Molecule 01 is intriguing, but nothing from another world and, in my opinion, it is beaten by Escentric 01, with which it makes a pair.

I purchased this half wondering if I’d be able to smell it at all, but intrigued by reviews claiming it might be utterly magical. For comparison purposes, I also purchased some Iso E Super, at 40% concentration.
First, the two definitely smell different. The Iso E Super smells really good (there are definite hamster-cage comparisons to be made, but I love the smell of cedar and pencil shavings so this worked for me) and it was fun to smell this note in isolation. It’s helped me recognize it in the drydown of some of my other fragrances. It also smells really clean and, to my nose, utterly inoffensive. Even though it projects well, I think this would be a safe office wear, and I think it makes a great scent for days when you’re tired of wearing scent. Mind you, I never wear more than two spritzes of anything.
Molecule 01 smells great, too, but is a bit more complex than the straight Iso E Super. Strangely, I cannot smell this at ALL when I put my nose up to my wrist. But I definitely get a lovely cloud of scent that comes and goes around me: a combination of cedar and ozone. It’s the oddest sensation: I can’t smell it exactly, but my brain registers the scent. Once in a while, I think, “Hey, that smells good”…and then it’s gone. I can easily see why some people find this very strong, and why some claim it’s not there at all. I also suspect that overspraying would lead to an anosmic reaction pretty quickly.
So, is Molecule 01 worth the considerable price tag (about 10x the cost of Iso E Super mixes easily found online)? For me: the difference is interesting enough that I’m glad I have both. I probably won’t repurchase if I ever get to the end of my bottle, though.

I get an ashy- animalic cedar type note, easily detectable on paper as well as skin. Potent really. I dont doubt for a second this could have some type of amplifying properties, but i could not get past the note. Didnt work for me but theres definitely some power here.

The best way I can describe this scent – freshly ironed clothes.
This is an absolutely unique and gorgeous scent, but too many people wear it in Ukraine. And I have issues with performance: sometimes it’s 7-8 hours, sometimes 1-2.
I do not uphold this babble about the different smell on each person. I’ve tried it on more than 10 persons and all of them smell the same.
You know, for me, this is a good guy has been hated by others, because of he’s so indecently good.

Experience: At first I found it hard to smell anything beyond a slight cedar scent in the opening. However, I received compliments from friends and my boyfriend, despite not really being able to smell much myself. I found this pretty strange until I read up a bit on the main ingredient Iso E Super. As others have commented the scent hits you in waves, and is definitely not a perfume that I feel the presence of all the time.
Price: Way too high! Next time I’ll buy a Iso E Super + alcohol mix from eBay as that is much cheaper and can be bought more concentrated than this.

Good stuff! Molecule 1 Escentric cologne with Iso E Super is amazing. I stumbled upon info about it online and I learned as much as I could before deciding to buy it.
It has a nice, mellow cedar vibe to it and you’ll find yourself sniffing your arm quite often after applying.
It is extolled as a nearly “magical” fixative that will
invigorate your other perfumes; those which don’t perform
    as well as you’d like.
Yesterday morning I started the day with a few spritzes of Dior Homme Intense on my wrists and neck. This is, of course, a high sillage frag and I have no misgivings about its performance.
About 4 hours later my order of an M-1-E clone from Ebay arrived in the mail.(More about that later)
So I opened the package of home-made M-1-E clone and applied a couple of sprays over the existing Dior.
It had been 4 hours since I first applied the Dior and it had begun to show signs of diminishing strength. When the M-1-E clone hit my skin I immediately smelled a nice cedar note and it was smooth and reassuring.
Now this is where it gets interesting. After 30 or 40 minutes the Dior Homme Intense began to shine through and it was obviously experiencing a revitalization due to the effects of the aroma enhancing Iso E Super in the Molecule 1 Escentric clone.
The scent of the Dior was completely intact but, like a friendly ghost, the M-1-E clone was influencing it in that I could detect the cedar yet it in no way interfered with or impinged upon the notes of the Dior Homme Intense; it combined with it and enhanced it giving it a velvety smoothness and charm that is, quite frankly, indescribable.
Iso E Super is going to be in my cologne stable permanently as I am very disgruntled by the perfume manufacturers who have made the fragrance world like a visit to a disreputable bordello where one finds satisfaction on a hit-and-miss basis only –
The love of money is the root of all evil.
After I discovered this incredible, new, synthetic masterpiece online I shopped around and saw that the prices are exorbitant, especially for a 1 note – 2 ingredient frag. I saw ridiculous prices like 120ml for $130.
I then found that it’s simple to buy the Iso E Super fragrance oil and perfumers alcohol and make your own.
One could probably mix up a full 32 oz. for $25 total.
So I searched Ebay, my all time favorite perfume source, and I found many sellers retailing their home made clones for reduced costs below that of the Escentric Molecules Name Brand.
In my search I stumbled upon one seller who will sell 60 ml in a glass, cobalt blue bottle with a quality spray nozzle at 20% concentration, instead of the 10% concentration the name brand sells, for $17.99 + 3.75 shipping.
This seller will also increase the concentration to 40% if you ask when you make your order. The name of the seller is thetxstate.

The ultimate nose-turner. Addictive! I buy a new bottle even before the old one is empty just in case. Even though skin is supposed to shape and form and revive this molecule it makes my heart run over with joy when my clothes too bring waves of this gorgeous scent even after a long period on the shelves.

THIS PERFUME. It’s all this perfume’s fault. I got a sample after someone recommended it and BANG, I now have a perfume addiction. It’s such a weird thing. What I can’t understand is that when I bought a bottle of iso E super by itself, it was not the same. I can’t explain that. My nose CANNOT get enough of this smell. It’s elusive nature makes me hunt it even more and has led me to try others by this guy. I like Boudicca in the right mood, Escentric 01 is ok but beautiful mind ‘fantasy & intelligence’ was over the top, like Escentric 01 with a sickly flower after taste. This is the bang, just this. Love it. I especially enjoy M01 when I’m a bit nosed out by other perfumes. I like that it doesn’t entirely conceal my own smell, and this also confused me because it is a man-made molecule. Somehow it feels soft and unintrusive and like it simply belongs on my skin. After the rollercoaster of complex fragrance exploration, the simplicity of M01 satisfies me greatly.

Really like it – it’s nice and light for hot weather. It seriously is a ghost/whisper of Encre Noire. Where EN would be too much in high summer in the central US, Molecule is excellent.

I found it very interesting how people can smell the same thing in total different ways sometimes! It’s particuliarely the case with this one! One simple note it this blend and everyone got a different take on it! There is my personal impression: Straight from the bottle, or on paper strip or any “cold” object I cant smell nothing at all, like it’s just straight alcohol… but at soon it’s on my skin, it stats to project like a beast!! And I got to say, it’s too much for my liking! It kinda reminds me of an animalic type of smell… weird! I gotta admit, i’ve read the reviews here fîrst before i tried it, and since i read from some that you cannot go overboard with it since it’s so light, i spread myself generosly! BIG MISTAKE!!! I smelled like a dirty and sweaty animal, disgusting! I washed my self several times but it was still there! A bad day! Then i just tost it away and did’nt think about it anymore… and one day i tried a perfume that i really liked, and i realised that on of the notes in it was iso e super! I recognized it and i found it so light and pretty, kind of sexy in this perfume, i decided to try molecule 01 again. A tiny tiny drop, large like a pen point, on one of my wrist, and wow! It was devine!! From now on i use it very lightly and most of the time I layer it with perfumes that lacks of caracter to me! It has a special place in my collection now!

I was really excited about this when I ordered it. Hearing and reading what other people said about it, I expected some kind of magical pheromone amplifying thing that would have no scent of its own, but that would enhance my scents. So, I was disappointed with what it really is. Yeah, you don’t smell it right away, but it definitely has its own scent, a soapy old books kind of thing. My wife caught a whiff of it right away, and didn’t like it. Didn’t seem to have any kind of interaction with my skin and whatever else I might smell of. Its smell is not offensive, but I don’t find it attractive either.

  36. :

I love that this scent is controversial. I think it speaks to its quality. It’s unusual in how it acts; sometimes it’s there, sometime’s it’s not. But it does make an impact. It is almost more masculine than feminine (if we still need to use those qualifiers in 2018). It will waft up at the most unexpected moments and blend uniquely with your skin’s natural scent. On me, it smells fresh yet almost animalistic. Like a heightened Paper Commodity for women, which I also like.

Not sure how or why anyone can’t smell Molecule 01. It is most definitely there and I catch wafts of it throughout the day quite often. I just think people have grown so used to the blatant effects of complex fragrances to the point where anything with a subtle scent is deemed as weak or undetectable. Either that or they just don’t care for the scent that is being emitted from Molecule 01 when they do smell it. I fail to suffer from neither.
Molecule 01 works for me because I am not one those “If I can’t smell it on myself then why wear it” types. Having a scent excessively right under your nose all day is not very pleasant regardless of how well it smells. I have learned that where a fragrance is applied usually helps a great deal in lessening the cloying effects to the wearer more so than the number of sprays applied.
Which is why I honestly have grown to appreciate the Molecule series. I can apply it on areas of my body that I normally wouldn’t, mainly my neck, and the scent doesn’t cloy at all. I catch whiffs of it throughout the day and when I don’t people certainly remind me that I am giving off a nice aroma.
I’m not an in your face type of person and I certainly don’t need my fragrance to be. Therefore I use all of my other EDT’s and EDP’s moderately enough to have you aware of my presence without announcing it. The beauty of the Molecule series is I can go heavy on the nozzle if I choose to without making myself uncomfortable while wearing it.
Single subtle notes and/or molecules might just be my thing and I plan to seek out more types of these “scented” formulas.

I like unscented detergents, and I don’t like this.
No, actually, I know it as the main ingredient in any number of “fresh” or “outdoor” smelling laundry detergents and fabric softener sheets. Mostly, it reminds me of Classic Tide — but in a more penetrating, lingering, irritating way. It gave me a headache. Wouldn’t wash off, either, and every time I’d think it was gone, another wave of it would swirl round me.
Smells exactly like Comet cleanser. Not offensive, but nothing special, in my opinion.I think it’s BS. I do find it kind of fascinating because I can’t seem to smell it 5 minutes after application, yet I can smell it on my clothing after it’s been laundered. Weird. Overpriced!

This one is bizarre and I’m trying to figure out the idea behind it. Is it supposed to smell differently on everyone or something ?
On me, it was a very, very faint rubbery smell, like a very watered-down Dior Farenheit. It lasted almost no time at all, and projected virtually not at all, no matter how much I sprayed. Dud ?

it is designed to react with an individual’s skin, so while the wearer may notice a subtle woody note at first, it will re-surface to give off a wholly individual scent after time

Something is very wrong with this perfume or with my nose…
I can’t smell anything at all… if I try hard I can smell something woody but very close to my skin. Also my friends can’t feel it on me…

If I, the wearer cannot smell anything, how come anyone around me will be able to smell something out of this on me?
    That i will never understand.

I definitely prefer feminine scents on myself and although Molecule 01 is not a bad scent – in fact, I feel it smells like a walk in a woodland after a summer storm and that deep earthy smell I like in nature – I would have been a lot happier to smell this on a man.
Molecule 01 turnes very woody and masculine on me, and it smells fairly refreshing. Do I smell some aromatic tea there? Maybe. Sure it is a wonderful scent, but
