Description

“From the faith of the great Mongoloid to the modern heritage to the World. From religious faiths to the rich heritage of ancient wisdom, all is captured into one essence of ‘Mogao,’ which is named after the caves of Buddha, that feature a collection of finest Buddhist art spanning over a period of 1,000 years. Located in Kobe desert and on the monumental spot of the silk road, it was here where the caravans of men crossed paths with the holiness of Buddhism, amidst the rich natural surroundings that engulf this spiritual oasis of ancient China. Mogao begins with a celebration of rich natural heritage of southwest China, Sichuan province. From a variety of aromatic sweet oranges, intoxicating Osmanthus combined with Sichuan’s indigenous spices and tea leaves that are picked with an attentive eye. Like the sacred content of the caves’ library, enigmatic aroma of fresh ingredient, tempered with the base note, is set to disperse beyond boundaries.

With the base note of incense, wood and leather, we reimagine back to when the caravan gatherings came to pass by the ancient silk road where merchants and people of difference races met and mingled. From east to west, somewhere along the road emerged that “one thousand and one Arabian nights” moment, in the midst of desert. There sit we, with our caravan of companions around the campfire, casually exchanging and enriching one another’s cultures and religious beliefs with no sense of segregation—either by nationality or border. Just a group of free-spirited voyagers from faraway lands, surrounded by the warmth of campfire and united under the same starry sky.” – a note from the brand.

Mogao was launched in 2017. The nose behind this fragrance is Prin Lomros.

Lovely, complex, charismatic thing which manages by some magic trick to be sweet, but not cloyingly, citric without being sharp, yet also full of warm spice with surprisingly dark corners. Very distinctive and unusual – can’t think of too much like it – though the comparison to Nanban below is spot on – they don’t actually smell alike, but have similarly richly-layered, intriguing, teasing presence. You can literally feel and see the quality, as well as smell it, because this leaves a delicious, lacquer-like, slightly oily sheen on your wrist for a really long time (like up to 30min) after application – it’s the real deal, no question.
I didn’t fall instantly in love – and at Pryn’s premium price I would have to – but could easily wear this anywhere, any day. Sadly, on me it unfolds one fascinating picture after another, like some wonderful manuscript scroll, only to run out before its time … vanishing faint by 4h in. One for the true aficionados to savour as a treat, but probably not a practical everyday choice unless money’s no object.

Charismatic, intriguing and mysterious.- Beautiful arrangement of orange and mandarin, schuan pepper is fantastic. An ancient harmony,a hint of vague incense looks out after a while, spices and resins come together in a continuous swirl of emotions and memories. I really like it,the sillage is moderate and the longevity lasts a lot on me…! Beautiful.

    Sweet citric champaca.
It’s a floral gourmand with doses of variant citrus and plum as i can’t detect nothing but fruiti blend with bits of floral then hints of sichuan pepper as i begun detecting something hot. As it cools down, the smoke and incense begins to rise and so is the leather.
This fragrance changes dramatically from something to a complete another thing! it’s like a teleporter! I can’t define my final opinion yet as i need to check it up again some other time cause what i have witnessed is something weird!

An Oriental spicy gourmand like none other, this beautiful fragrance from the talented Thai perfumer Prin Lomros has two central notes: Mandarin Orange and Sichuan Pepper. To this interesting central notes he adds orange, tangerine, incense, nutmeg, cinnamon, cumin, star anise, Champaca, osmanthus, plum, costus, leather and other exotic Oriental notes to create an evocative fragrance that reminds you of China in the early 20th century. In my mind, I get the feel of Bertolucci’s “The Last Emperor”. Think of a fresher smelling “Nanban”. Beautifully blended, with moderate to strong projection and sillage, unisex (leaning slightly on the feminine side), this is yet another winner from one of the brightest new names in modern Oriental perfumery today. Those into Orientals and gourmands need to get their hands and noses on this Asian beauty.
