Description

Just like a walk in the Alhambra Gardens, Mandarine Sultane is a fruity, flowery fragrance. The mandarin’s freshness merges with the softness of Jasmin. The Garden of Earthly Delights. With a play on shadow and light, the perfume Mandarine Sultane creates a mosaic of refreshing, sensual and voluptuous notes, juxtaposing the facets of mandarin, musk and jasmine.

Mandarine Sultane by Alexandre.J is a Citrus fragrance for women and men. This is a new fragrance. Mandarine Sultane was launched in 2016. The nose behind this fragrance is Amelie Bourgeois. Top notes are mandarin orange, bergamot and lemon; middle notes are neroli, jasmine, orange blossom, peach and almond; base notes are sandalwood, amber, musk, saffron, rum and cashmere wood.

I’m not a big citrus fan so I wasn’t drawn to this fragrance, but I do enjoy the creativity and artistry behind Alexandre.J so I ordered a bottle for a great price. What’s not to love?
Mandarine Sultane opens with a fresh blast of mandarin and citruses, a strong powdery accord, and that Alexandre.J DNA, which is hard to explain but you’ll recognize it when you smell it. The opening wasn’t my favorite part since, as mentioned, I’m not a huge citrus fan and the powdery accord surprised me in that most powders lean feminine to me. Conversely, it opens strong and a bit harsh (which I enjoy) which may be off putting for those looking for something softer. But the scent is quality, no doubt.
Thankfully the mandarin begins to tone-down within minutes, but never goes away…just slowly fades with the passing of time. Moreover, that powdery accord pretty much disappears within the first few minutes as white floral and sweet tones push forward along. I can detect neroli and orange blossom but not jasmine specifically, which I appreciate because strong jasmine scents lean heavily feminine on my manly skin. Those those of you who loves a fantastic jasmine fragrance, I would suggest you look at Rasasi Jasmine Wisp. It’s awesome.
Woody, amber and a slight musky tone push forward in the base to blend with the heart of this fragrance along with the mandarin which hold-on but continues to fade. The drydown is my favorite part of Mandarine Sultan, which is completely unisex IMO, whereas the early stages lean a bit more feminine. Performance is pretty good is that it lasts 7-8 hours on my skin and project moderately, overall, although it is quite potent and distributes a large scent bubble for the first 20-30 minutes.
Overall, I like this one and find it perfectly suited for the Spring and Fall seasons; it’s a bit too heavy for the Summer months and too bright for the Winter. Although this fragrance could be dressed-up or dressed-down, I find it better for casual wear. Cheers.
