Description

L’Homme Ideal Sport is created by Thierry Wasser and Delphine Jelk, who took the almond note and revealed its sporting potential by giving it vitality with fresh spices and aquatic accords. The heart develops with a delicate neroli essence, followed by the woody base featuring an intensive trio of patchouli, vetiver and coumarin.

The bottle adopts its predecessors’ design, updated with a deep blue lacquer. The label’s red trim evokes a sports shirt. Guerlain L’Homme Ideal Sport is available as a 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette from May 2017.

L’Homme Ideal Sport could certainly be unisex. I love its glamourous lipstick vibe (as you rightly said!) that makes it so different from the other tipically “sport” or “summer” scents and it seems that my skin likes it too.
Despite being called sporty fragrance, it wafts all around many hours after one spray only.

This fragrance reminds of Bleu de Chanel..it’s got that lipstick vibe like BDC. It’s a nice safe fragrance for daytime use. Longevity on me is not very good, couple hours and seems like only skin scent. But haven’t tested among lots people to see if sillage is any good. Seems like arm’s length for first hour or so then just a personal space fragrance. As in people within ur personal space may smell it?.

This is a very unique fragrance despite all the other reviews out there. This is the first scent that combines that fresh and aquatic nature (which has obviously been explored before in so many different ways) with the rather unique yet heavy veil of almond. Where Ive been underwhelmed with sport fragrances in the past that have just a nuanced combo of aquatic/marine and citrus blended together, Guerlain makes this a perfect summer daytime fragrance that is uplifting yet sporty and not in a strikingly tart/citric way. Ive found my hot weather fragrance to be L’eau Boise, this is definitely not a bad choice and a great choice if you enjoy the warm spicy or almond accords.

I finally was able to get a quick sniff of this “Sport” flanker of “Guerlain L’Homme Ideal” & my first impression is that I like it! Ever since I heard someone compare this fragrance to a male version of “Chanel Coco Mademoiselle” I had been dying to try it.. Now this is just my first impression as I was only able to get a quick sniff on paper but right away I knew exactly what that person meant! Guerlain L’Homme Ideal Sport opens up nice & fresh yet you can tell right away that it has some depth to it.. I do detect some of the L’Homme Ideal DNA as there is a touch of that almond accord in there yet this fragrance strays further from L’Homme Ideal than even L’Homme Ideal Cologne did.. There are some floral notes which lend this Sport flanker somewhat of an almost unisex/feminine vibe to it.. A very nice patchouli note in the base stands out which contrasts nicely with the fresh aquatic opening & the floral heart along with with those touches of sweet almond.. That patchouli note contrasting with the other notes is most likely where that “Chanel” comparison came from.. Anyways I definitely want to get to know this fragrance better as it is the first fragrance out of the “Guerlain L’Homme Ideal” line that I actually might want to add to my collection!

The least interesting from the Ideal line. Mass pleasing generic aquatic scent easy to wear it any time any place.
Dominant notes are aquatic notes, neroli, mild almonds, mild patchouli and mild vetiver.
Get something with personality and beautiful smell like Guerlain L’Homme Ideal Cologne for warm weather. The sport version is very boring.

Wow! I just don’t get the hate for this fragrance.
Nothing groundbreaking I know, but still a gorgeous fresh scent with that almond touch, and familiar guerlain-ade in the dry down.

For me the Ideal accord has certain ‘Goldilocks zones’ where it works and this version might just be a departure too far. Here’s the history of my option on Ideal and it’s flankers, I didn’t really like the original, I found it disappointing, sweet rubbish. Then the EDP or deeper version, for some bizarre reason I quite liked even though it was possibly sweeter and even more icky, but sometimes it’s a case of…if you’re gonna go there might as well go all the way. Then the ultimate plateaux was Ideal Cologne which mixed the original accord with more fresh notes, I really liked it and perchased, and actually wear often. Ideal Sport still has vague glimpses of the almond base but they are much more distant now and the top notes and main vibe are that of a generic, aquatic. I find it boring but not unpleasant it’s fresh and when dried down smells a bit more interesting than the hundreds of aquatics it smells like because of that Ideal pedigree. Is it something I’m interested in? Not really performance was fairly good though.
Update: I can’t believe I was So blasé about this fragrance, upon sampling again its actually a brilliantly well realised aquatic. It’s a class act, reminding me a touch of amazingreen, classic cologne type fragrances, modern aquatics and a touch of the gourmand basis of the original. I really like it.

I have tested twice before purchased this fragrance. At first I don’t really like it when I sprayed on my arm. But on the following day, the smell kept lingering in my mind. So I decided to give a second try. This time I change my mind and I like it very much. It smell very much between Bleu de Chanel and Chanel Allure Homme Sport. But Ideal Sport is more moderate which suit me more. You can spray more but without headache and nausea. (No offence to others from overpowering.)Sillage and Performance are so-so.
Which I think it allows people who loves you to get closer to you for a good sniff.

I do not know why all the hate on this one? It is – in a way – a twin brother of the L’homme Ideal EDC vis a vis (am I using this word right?) vibe and lightness – ofcourse, the scent is different in essence…you can smell the water notes and the neroli along with the famous almond note in there.
All I know is when I received this one, it just made me smile…a lot.
A perfect early morning scent for the summer.

I have sample of ideal sport and can’t get what are all these hates for?whatever this perfume is…it’s not a bad one!really!it’s kind of perfume that everyone will like and enjoy it.a casual and lovable perfume with acceptable performance.IMO it really worth the price.Perfum houses all around the world produce many fragrances at many different levels.we sould not compare this one to a niche class perfume.at its level its a really good fragrance.I think i will buy a full bottle as soon as i can reach it.

This is NOT GOOD and TOTALY NOT WORTHy for this price.

No much work or creativity , i’m maybe over simplifying my review but honestly i perceive this release from guerlain as versace pour homme or chanel allure sport with few tweaks.
    PASS.

I just got this fragrance for my birthday and I can only praise the man who selected it. For anyone who loves l’homme idéal it is a must have. I don’t agree with those who say it is like the cologne. This one has vetiver and a marine smell. Very easy to wear and still different to the other fragrances in the series. Well done.

I tested all of perfumes they have on their counter including this one. I end up bought Habit Rouge Dress Code 2016 because it pleased my love one so much that he would even buy another one for himself in the future. In the process I got a sample bottle of L’Homme Ideal Sport.
I have the urge to write a review of this meek child of L’Homme Ideal family because of the poor rating it got.
This one open up with fresh watery citrus from watery note and neroli. It reminds me of grapefruit which smells generic in perfume market these days. (And I think everyone loves that smell. lol)
Quickly follow up by smooth almond and mild spice, I really love this creamy stage. I got soft patchouli, vetiver and spice for the dry down which still contains Guerlain’s signature and quality.
Since L’Homme Ideal EDP is my BF’s signature scent, I have to say that the sport version is a predecessor watered down and add watery note plus citrusy. Then, you got this easy to wear sport flanker that I assumed it made for casual situation unlike the others from the family.
Sadly, the longevity is weak and the sillage is skin scent soft.
I can’t get any whiff of it after 2 hours. Though, It still there if I sniff my arm… hard. On a bright side, you can completely overspray this one. XD Overall, L’Homme Ideal Sport is a “like” for me.
I think this one targeted the people that new to perfume or people that strong perfume cause their headache. Unfortunately, If Guerlain want this one to compete with other sport perfumes in these days market, it will lose without a doubt.
If you want to try the one that differ from the fam, go for L’Homme Ideal Cologne. It’s snow like cold. It’s fresh yet unique. It’s… gooodd.

I’ve decided to write a review because I believe L’Homme Ideal Sport deserves some love.
First, I’d like to say that I wore this each day for over a month after I bought it.
I’ve gotta say it smells decent in the first few minutes but, after the hour, every time I smelled it, it felt like heaven. On me, most days it would last over 12 hours; this and its pleasant scent makeup for the soft-moderate sillage.
Oddly and surprisingly, every day it somewhat smelled differently, as if this guy had a range of ups (never downs), but always similarly in its fresh-aquatic personality, which I certainly love.
Most of the time, it is fresh-aquatic, never citric, and sometimes creamy, like it’s brother, the original L’Homme Ideal. Also, some days I picked up the neroli and it’d be such a pleasant surprise.
It’s fresh, multifaceted and enticing scent make it my favorite out of all the L’Homme Ideal family, especially for everyday casual wear.
I love smelling it at random moments of the day on the top of my hand, where I usually spray it aside from my neck, and it’s even better when I take a deep breath at that spot!
If you’re lucky, it’ll rain on you and it will suddenly come alive! …or you can jump in the pool or take a shower for the same experience.
*Other things I should mention, just in case, is that every time I put some on me and walked past my mother, she’d always compliment me. Same happened when my sister came over for a poolside family reunion.
Also, when I tested it at a department store, it always smelled boldly like a creamy almond, and it seemed way too similar to the first L’Homme Ideal, which made me doubt whether I would love or want this. But, like I’ve said, this strays away from it because it truly is a fresh-aquatic.
Hope this helps anyone with doubts and encourages you to give it a chance!!!

Think the fragrance is getting too much hate. Its simply a generic offering with decent quality. It does smell very basic at first but there are hints that come out at you that smell of quality. The almond for me is very tame and in the background. I wouldn’t even really pick it out if I wasn’t aware of it. Its got a little bit of that smooth and slightly creamy freshness that versace pour homme has.. It has the same aquatic tinge that nautica voyage has and also a soapy freshness feel slightly like mont blanc individual. add a tiny hint of vanilla.. And I mean very small because its not really a sweet scent to me..
Overall it will be a familiar and generic smell to most of you guys.. A generic freshie with some of the elements I have mentioned done in a decent quality formula.
    Scent 3.5/5
Performance not rated yet.. Appears at least average.

It’s like Frankenstein, 40% jimmy choo ice, 40% bulgari aqua amara, 20% mugler ice man.
But this one is done much better then the others. I actuali wouldn’t mind to wear it, nothing that I can say about the others.
Edit: in the middle part the mugler ice man grew to 35%.

Ouch, but this one was a let down. I was nervous about this release to begin with (anytime I see “Sport” I cringe), but being such a huge fan of Guerlain I tried to keep an open mind.
Well, an open mind wasn’t enough to give this one a passing grade, I’m afraid. The other family members in the Homme Ideal line felt like there was a vision behind them, whereas Sport just came across so generic and brash.
There’s both aquatic and gourmand components wrestling away here in a less-than-pleasing manner, and in a way which we’ve smelled in any number of mens care products available on pharmacy shelves.
That being said, even my favourite musicians are prone to putting out an album or two which might not resonate with where I’m at at the moment. Does it mean I love them any less? No. I just have to hope that the particular album was something they had to get out of their system. There’s always the back catalogue to hold my respect intact.

I’ve tried all the L’Homme Ideal line from Guerlain and I liked them. Unfortunately this one is a disappointment. The smell is pleasant enough. It opens with a burst of almond and mint with a vague hint of spice. The L’Homme Ideal DNA is immediately apparent. About 20 minutes in, there’s some kind of salt water note and something vaguely earthy (possibly the vetiver) which appear. 30 minutes in the neroli comes in and the tonka/coumarin vibe is detectable.
It’s a skin scent from start to finish and an hour in, it starts to fade. Somewhere between two and half and three hours later, it is gone. Disappointing.
If you like the smell but you want it to last, get the cologne version instead. The cologne version is creamier and rounder and lasts longer. It’s a better blend with better longevity and projection. The Sport is a nice enough smell but not worth the bother, I’m sorry to say.

It hasn’t been long since Guerlain showed everyone how a sports flanker is done right (Habit Rouge Sport). So what the hell happened with L’Homme Idéal Sport? My guess is that a memo floated down from LVMH, telling Thierry Wasser to make a sporty-freshie to commemorate Guerlain’s transformation into a mass market brand – that’s like commissioning a jingle for supermarket froyo from Frédéric Chopin. Or maybe they realised that the original L’Homme Idéal was a bellyflop and just decided to milk it.
Either way, L’Homme Idéal Sport is a confused mess of disjointed notes. Habit Rouge Sport worked because it eschewed the standard procedure for sport flankers (which is to remove everything that made the original memorable, and dilute the rest fifty-fifty with a generic aquatic base). L’Homme Idéal Sport, on the other hand, follows this formula to the letter, and the result is utterly unworthy of the Guerlain name. It’s not necessarily worse than the average sports fragrance, but absolutely abysmal by the house’s lofty standards.
Please, Guerlain, leave this crap to Dior and Chanel, and go back to making real fragrances again.

Tested this in the city yesterday and also got a small sample.
I love the salt water scent.
To me it smells of neroli, a bit woody and salt water with a soft projection.
Personally I do not smell almond.
    It is very nicely composed.
Very much of a hot summer perfume. I can imagine this works fantastic in a more tropical climate than south Germany 🙂 it somehow matches great with my profile picture.
Will i buy a bottle? I would like this to smell more of citrus. But then i really love the salty notes. Not sure if i will get a bottle. Need to sniff it some more.
But this has potentials to become a mens summer classic. I just hope they market it well.

So we lost Guerlain Homme L’Eau, the perfect sport fragrance, and this is what we get? What a joke!

  28. :

    5 out of 5

This one is just too much. Metallic aquatic common boring blend that accompanies headache that has been repeated over and over and over under a tag named “Sport”. I have always believed that “sport” tag was A flop, and this fragrance proves it all! No almonds, no tonka beans, and no patchouli! just a pinch of spices, citrus and metallic water.
Guerlain are quite smart creating this fragrance and attach to it’s ad who supposed to be sexy(ish) so will guys purchase it thinking they’ll get sexy. Ironically, there are still some reviewers on youtube who believes “the only reason to wear a fragrance is to get girls attentions AND to get laid”, it’s like WTH! are girls really that cheap to your point of view! we are in 2017 and still there are cheap thrills out there and Guerlain is taking advantage of that. WELL DONE Guerlain 🙂

  29. :

    4 out of 5

Before I say what I’m about to say, I’m a Guerlain fan, but this one is a mess, trying to be everything at the same time, and capturing all the mass appealing smells in the market while retaining the almond accord typical in the homme line, but the worst part, a very cheap sharp synthetic background (like cleaning product) that ruins everything if it wasn’t already ruined.
Don’t take this has a blasphemy, if you love this good for you, this is just my opinion and smell is a very subjective manner. Definitely try before buy it.
All in all, this is not Guerlain quality standard and seems rushed in some weird way, definitely a pass.

  30. :

    4 out of 5

The almond accord of the original is definitely there, but drowned in the same woody-aquatic accord of Bleu de Chanel and Dior Sauvage.
Another hideous offering from Guerlain. The brand wants to open 100 stores worldwide during the next years. Soon Guerlain will be the new Yves Rocher, but disguised in fake exclusivity and exaggerated prices.

On the paper strip smells like a man shower gel indeed, but on my skin I find it more feminine. Aromatic, fresh and sweet in the right way, very easy tolerate, I like it, maybe I can wear all year around as everyday “unisex” frag:) Reminds me of something in the past but dont know the name or it’s just a supermarket’s shower gel smell:D

  32. :

    5 out of 5

Pleasant and fresh fragrance. Very versatile in summer, doesn’t have pronounced casualness or classiness, it’s somewhere in the middle. Longevity is pretty good (at least on paper). It has that shower gel smell to it but overall it’s great. A love from me.

  33. :

    4 out of 5

So this frag has motivated me to finally register on this site and this is going to be my very first review on here.
Guerlain is my favourite brand and I wanted to love this new scent as I do the others in my collection but I cannot- it is far too weak and does not project well, maybe if you apply huge amount but that is what you really should not want to be doing with this allegedly EDT.
Seriously even the official website did not have any info on this until today and it’s already been launched for like a week here in the NL, the website also states in the description it is long lasting which is really deceitful of them as it is not true at all! Becomes a skin scent after an hour and a half, you probably get to smell it a bit again when you take a shower in the eve as the hot water would activate it a bit again.
Overall, first time I am very disapointed with Guerlain, a bad move indeed, the one us true fans of the house hate to see. They should have kept the three frags of the line and never add this weak after gym scent, or an after shower bed time smell cause noone will smell it on you anyway.
It is very linear, simple, smells pretty much the same from start to finish, overall quite nice, would appeal to <20 year olds who haven’t smelled many frags yet. Has an Abercrombie Fitch casual vibe to it, not worth the name Guerlain.
Even Mr Wasser who is an otherwise talented perfumer cannot be serious about this and I remember him disagreeing about so many flankers the company seems to be making policy and believe he is just coerced to do whatever the profit greedy managers who destroy the brand tell him to do.
    Scent:5/10 Sillage: 3/10 Longevity:3/10 Guerlain Disaster!!!

I just received a 50ml bottle as a gift from our local Guerlain counter in Melbourne…..this is a beautiful and elegant edition to the L’Homme Ideal line…to me this fragrance is all about the gorgeous vetiver and patchouli dry down…..on my skin it is very long lasting and can be easily smelt the next morning which is unusual for a fresh fragrance…….for once an Aquatic done right…..8/10
Update::::all the people calling this a “disaster” obviously havent been smelling the rubbish coming out of Paco Rabbane and Dolce & Gabbana for many many years

Can’t add a review as I have never smelled it before. However, I have smelled all the others from this line and if it’s in the same vein, I don’t see how it could be bad. By the way Coco Mademoiselle is my favorite fragrance for women. I just love the smell. If Thierry took that and made a more masculine version, I think I may just punch someone in the face – in a good way.

@Jasminalia – If what you say is true that this new L’Homme Ideal flanker smells somewhat like a male version of Chanel Coco Mademoiselle than count me in! Oh how I wish Chanel would make a male version of Mademoiselle! It smells so good! I suspect that this L’Homme Ideal Sport will be very well done as all of the L’Homme Ideal flankers have been very nice in my opinion! Can’t wait to get my nose on it & than I will update with a proper review..

    EXCITED !
Who cares if the name of the flanker is SPORT ? We had Habit Rouge Sport from Guerlain that was not “sporty” at all but very flowery and beautiful instead…
Moreover, to me, almond, neroli, spices and patchouli don’t sound like sporty notes at all. Let’s see what the duo Wasser/Jelk prepared for us this time around. I hope it’s gonna be heavy on the neroli with strong almond and vetiver undertones. Let’s wait and see. 🙂
