One of my favorite fragrances- all weather, kind of unique yet it smells familiar and non offending, it’s safe blind buy. Longevity is ok could be better though!

I got my partner a bottle of this and instantly it reminded me just a tiny bit of the original cool water for men ( I had to laugh when I saw the list of flankers for cool water , my god there was about 40 fragrance called cool water – something ! Lol
Anyways it does have the cool water freshness and something in it is similar.
This bottle is from 2009 so lasts and lasts ! Maybe not extremely loudly but medium sillage, it just keeps going which was a nice surprise for an non expensive fragrance.
This is quite masculine yet slightly sweet clean & juicy
Softly leathery , not much spice as it’s more refreshing than a spicy scent but it has a classical feel.
Lovely solid glass and metal topped bottle which makes the experience straight away more expensive feeling than it really was !

This scent is very classy,it has the creamy vibe of a new bought leather jacket of great quality, and like a jacket, you have to feel its nuance near your skin!Pretty weak projection, but good performance in the longevity.

Overall a nice, mature, conservative, subdued fragrance with soft sillage. I also pick up somewhat of a dated vibe. This fragrance includes many of my favorite note combinations but I am left unsatisfied due to its’ low volume and modernity. If it were a little more loud and pronounced, maybe it would fit me better.

Wooooaaah so fantastic. Sometimes we only have to pay 10 dollars to get a solid and pleasant scent that the nose can enjoy. Quite versatile I would say and really good.

Spicy, woodyleather, elegant scent with good longevity 6-7h.. but only problem is projection, it don’t have it, skincent.. 🙁 to bad for such a nice fragrance, common Cerruti you can do better.. ps; this frag is waste of money, even Avon frags have better projection..this is” water” not frag.. and I buy it in a
    reputable perfumery…

It is nice fragrance and sillage is ok,does not last very long but it last more then 6 hours on cloths or skin…This was my blind buy and it is worth of money to spend,i had few nice compliments from young girls about the scent and also asking question “what is that perume you have”…my answer was “this is private blend”
    Scent 8/10
    Sillage 7/10
    Longevity 7/10

Nice smelling cologne…you can feel the spice and some kind of uplifting vibe as well…Longevity is about 5-7 hours and projection is moderate, I cannot imagine myself wearing this cologne casually…it better fits the office or formal, semi-formal settings…good value for what you pay…I would also say it is for somebody over his 25-30….it showa some maturity, elegance and sophistication

I have this fragrance today and i must say that this was a blind buy, never tested before…I m very happy with the scent, similar to Perry Ellis…the best part of the fragrance that is last for very long time, can be used in winter time, very cheap but smels like most expensive…i like it 🙂
    Scent 8/10
    Long Lasting 9/10

This is a wonderful woody/leathery and fresh scent. I got this scent a year ago and I didn’t like it at the beginning but my god this really is a great casual scent. Definitely worth a try!!

Very nice solid smell on paper. But on my skin…chemical mess. Good longevity and average sillage.

A sugary version of Davidoff Adventure. Nothing special here. It’s pretty much a skin scent. However it’s cheap so for what it offers it is kind of value for money.

  16. :

    4 out of 5

the orange notes seems like davidoff adventure’s opening. after top notes cerruti becomes more mature with little sweety and light leathery scent. so i can say that if u like adventure style most likely u like cerruti too. Lasting is so good on the clothes; on skin moderate. i can recommend it for daily using especially formal and ofice occasion.

I blindly bought based on what i read here. Turn out, i fall in love. Love how fresh this fragrance with the combination of safron and citrus. It is so fresh and very lasting not only on me but on a few who ordered with me. Now i am using tge second bottle.

  18. :

The opening I get is a sort of banana and coconut note, reminding me of the boxes of produce sold roadside in Cuba. It exists only within the opening, it isn’t especially sweet, and it isn’t there for long. The white pepper and saffron replace it, and then it turns a whole lot drier.
Saffron isn’t an especially common ingredient in mens fragrances – though I have smelled saffron often in Istanbul where it is common enough and used frequently in Turkish cooking.
One great life experience is to walk through the Spice Bazaar in Eminönü, and to take lunch in the pleasant surroundings of Pandeli Restaurant located above and to sit amongst the beautiful old tiles (and almost as old furnishings) with photographs of famous patrons from yesteryear. This unique setting is perfect for gazing over the Bazaar one side, Galata Bridge and Karaköy to the other and taking in the wonderful aroma of saffron rising from the market below. I have been privileged to visit six times in my life, and it would be an unbearable thought never to do it again.
Leather! I don’t notice it so much at the top as the middle. The cedar, amber and musk harmonise with the leather beautifully to make this is a great leather note. In summary, for me this scent is about saffron and leather.
I have tested every Cerruti fragrance. Apart from original For Men (which I absolutely loved), I found them generally “alright” – but nothing more. Usually too sweet, and a bit homogenous. Unremarkable to be honest. L’Essence de Cerruti is their best offering for quite some time.

  19. :

    5 out of 5

L’Essence de Cerruti is a beautiful under rated fragrance. It starts off with a sweet citrus in the top notes. Then what I get is mostly saffron and leather with some musk in the dry down. The saffron and leather is where it really shines, smells expensive and classy. definitely a grown up, suit and tie fragrance. Projection and sillage are a little on the softer side, making this ideal for work or formal occasions. Of course we are all free to wear whatever wherever but what I mean is, this would be wasted at the beach for example. Longevity is a decent 6-8 hours with 5 sprays. It is one of those frags that is a little low on oomph so I give it a couple of extra sprays. The amazing thing is you can find it online at ridiculously low prices. I have had perfumes in my wardrobe that cost twice as much that dont smell half as good as L’Essence so if you see it going for a bargain online, blind buy it. You might just be as pleasantly surprised as I was. Fantastic value for money. I love it. 8.5/10

Once in a while, I buy a small bottle of EDT, to use it during my short trips. Last year it was Guepard, and this spring L’Essence took its place in my travel bag pocket. Both scents boast pretty much the same fresh vibe. The previous one was more woody-resiny, the present plays green and leathery notes.
L’Essence, despite its price tag (bought for a song in an online store), is a high-quality product, well-balanced and really versatile. Sour and spicy opening, bittersweet development and long woody drydown, just a little bit synthetic. Lots of green at every stage. Noticeable but inoffensive, suitable for any situation you can (or cannot) imagine. Happy to have it. Can easily use it as my everyday scent. Recommended!

i like the sweetness of the saffron that mix well with amber and musk with soft and gentle smells of woody when it dry down. on the first spray, i can smell the citrusy of bergamot. This fragrance is a light citrus type. I kind of love it. i will update again how long it last on my skin. just tried it today

I like this one. I think it´s very well made and rather sofisticated. On me it´s strong enough and lasts several hours, no complains there. Kind of a bargain IMO.

  23. :

    3 out of 5

Very nice indeed. My only complaint is that I wish the fragrance was more potent in strength and sillage but for the price it’s hard to complain too much because this is all around a fantastic fragrance. It starts off strong but calms itself down quickly and I wish the top notes lasted longer. It’s sweet without being heavy and subdued enough to give it both a sophisticated and versatile edge where this can be worn all year round for any occasion.

  24. :

If you like leather IN your fragrances this is great, but it’s not a pure heavy leather based fragrance. L’Essence de Cerruti is a really smooth, classy, versatile minty leather with good longevity and moderate projection. A little soapy, but it’s more a sort of tart freshness. If you like mint and leather you’ll probably love LdC. I’m not the biggest mint fan but it’s used perfectly here.
Quite a sexy and sophisticated scent IMO, like I’ve come to expect of some of the Italian houses. I can smell LdC’s presence on me throughout the day, but others would need to be closer to smell it on you. This would make an excellent all-weather signature or date night choice.
Overall this is a really solid fragrance that I find myself wearing often, definitely recommended!

Perfect balance off citruses, woody and musky notes..in this frag everythyng is right.. one off my favorite perfumes and my signature.. very good longevity 7-8h,with moderate projection.. love this one.. beautifull and classy botlle also..

A correction: it is “Cerruti”, not “Cerutti” 🙂 So, double R, not double T!
As a steadfast wearer, I will say that L’EdC is one of the purest leather-scent someone can imagine.
Completely different from Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather… or Mugler’s A*Men Pur Cuir… or Aramis’ obladi… or Robert Piguet’s(*) oblada… or the Montale’s expensive range… etc.
L’Essence de Cerruti is the epitome of a relatively modest but truly classic Italian middle-class leather perfume. Unpretentious but virile, relatively cheap but long lasting on the skin, Cerruti’s Essence will not change the history of the world – but it will surely & positively change your mood during the day(s) in which you will wear it.
It is a decent leather perfume for a decent price.
Warning: on a female skin or a younger male skin, this will give life to a powerhouse!
”Autrement dit”, we speak about a decent 8,5/10 perfume.
    (*) – merci, Abdul!

Sort of how I expect a sexy Versace-wearing Italian man to smell. Clean, fresh, and safe, yet still delicate, interesting, and mysterious. Not necessarily a head-turner, but an elegant boost in confidence that dries down to someone you want to cuddle.

  28. :

    3 out of 5

Do not expect a leather scent like Tuscan Leather, this is not it. Like a coma that a comet leaves behind, similarly this scent is an atmosphere of a leather perfume. This is not a room full of leather jackets, shoes and bags, this is room that once had all the aforementioned products, that is how I perceive it.
I like it. Not because of the notes, but more because of the character it exhibits. I see this perfume having two contrasting aspects. 1) It is very crisp and clean fragrance at the beginning; tad arrogant and confident, which will encourages one to approach others. 2) Later it melts down to very warm and modest; it surrounds the wearer with the essence of leather, woods and amber, creating an aura of cosiness and invites the people to stay around him. It does not work in every occasion, I tried it at work; disliked it. I wore it for night out and liked it then.
Definitely a Yes or “No with a second chance” scent, if you did not liked it the first moment you sniffed it, wait, hold your judgement, you might say yes in few months. It is a more suitable for cold weather. If some gets warm and sweats, as like in a club, it sweats as well and releases kind a oily-like texture, which is very nice. For me projection is not an issue, because I think this is not a perfume to drag people noses to your direction, but rather to drag yourself to them, along with your personality, and when you leave, let them look for you.

We can say that a perfume is based in a modern leather or younger.
Opens citrus, somewhat minty middle and at the gateway to the heart appears a shy pepper.
The body goes through something minty and feel bittersweet, floral semi sweet, saffron probably gives this touch, and a note that is always ready to enter the leather.
The leather appears and there is something not sober, is more rubbery and light, just close this touch minty floral sweet initial drying with soft musk and woody nuances.
Good perfume, especially at the price that is.

  30. :

    3 out of 5

I think I get the same imression as tucktimosprime.
I bought this based on reviews here and at basenotes. though I know things people call “modern leather” usually may not what I look for (ie, smokey heavy leathery notes), I still decides to have a try.
Well, I think it’s partly my skin’s fault, I got a quite strong grassy minty notes, a fresh but bit watery sweetness, and yes, it’s just like some sweetmint-flaver toothpaste/mouthwash from Colgate. I really tried hard sniffing my wrist, but there is no leather, even the wood notes are faint. If I catalogue this scent, it will be under “fresh spicy” or “mint sweet” goups.
Can’t say it’s terrible, I think there will be lot people like this kind of scents, but definitely not what I look for.

A winner from the Cerruti house of fragrances. A smell that tiptoes between formal and casual. It has a super saffron note throughout wearing, along with the mint, wood and leather accords.
Overall, one of the best fragrances in my collection for the money. I would certainly buy this again. A solid Antoine Lie creation.

  32. :

    4 out of 5

it’s an OK fragrance – not bad, not great, a safe one – not a headturner for sure but just an ordinary (not a bad) safe scent…it’s like ‘ok that guy wears an ok edt’ and …..nothing else…longevity & sillage are ok

  33. :

    3 out of 5

Very good I must say. It’s real class here, from top to bottom notes. A must try to appreciate.

I love this classic L’ Essence de Cerutti for its depth and uplifting spirit. I don’t find it typically ‘masculine’ in any way, and in my opinion, if used with care, it can be unisex for daytime wear. It is not overpowering and leaves behind a lovely clean and elegant scent.

  35. :

    4 out of 5

I got an option whether to buy Michael Kors or Cerruti L’essence with $30.
I already sample Michael Kors and I love the smell. But somehow I blind bought the Cerruti L’essence which I really regretted doing that! The top smell exactly like Chrome Legend (which I already have) + smell of toothpaste which I don’t really like. On my skin it smell like tangerine-orange only not even closer to the D&G The One like many people said. Not terrible, but there are a lot more better perfume out there.

  36. :

    4 out of 5

From time to time the house of Cerruti releases really good fragrances and this is certainly one of them. Grown up, tasteful with a nice aura. Leather not being harsh, saffron, bergamot, white pepper playing well and even the menthol part fits nicely and gives it an uplift towards the drydown. Its definitely a flashback into old times but with a very modern take. Antione Lie has done a nice job with this one! For those who do not like menthol, spray simply on the shirt and any clothes instead of the skin and it will not appear. As I smell this fragrance it has an urban classic style reminding me of Paris. Best timing probably autumn or winter.

Blind Buy, very bad choise. Terrible its disgusting i was really expecting more from cerutti, its just terrrible.
Its something old in this EDT.

Very interesting indeed. Leather/Bergamote/Musk would be considered powerhouse territory in fragrances of yonder. All the elements work beautifully together to dial back the volume on the power ingredients just enough to temper them, without making them boring. Powerhouse-lite, as it were.
Bergamote to start, and a bit of pepper tickles the nose, over smooth leather. Mature. The top notes fade, and it strength seems to grow in intensity briefly, increasing its musky, leather undercurrents. Striking! Masculine! And subtle!?
Its strength diminishes considerably after the first hour. A warm amber base, slightly soapy and leathery, with just a pinch of powder. Good for about 6 hours, then becomes just a wisp of scent.
Clean, masculine and intriguing. Shame it doesn’t last longer.

  39. :

nice smooth, bergamont is nice in this scent. LOVE IT
the pepper makes this kinda minty for me.
    Longevity maybe a bit low 3-4 h
But Hey i bought this for 15 euro 50ml, who cares

  40. :

It’s more one excellent and elegant launch of this house. Balmy along all development of the notes, a little fresh thanks to bergamot and white pepper, but after this stage, a mix that remind us flowers and wood smell grow in strenght and stay so until the end. Balmy and long-lsting. It’s simply perfect!!

At my first impression I was let down. But after about an hour I had fallen in love. It’s just wonderful, it’s so sweet, warm and inviting, with a bit of an edge.
It’s fairly long-lasting, starts to fade after about 10 hours, but there’s still remnants after around fifteen (from just one spray) although quite a bit comes out each spray, one on the wrists one on the neck every day, it’s perfect.

  42. :

    4 out of 5

It is perfectly blended, adore it! A very classic piece, as it is being aimed to be. The begining is so optimistic and a bit provocative and sexy, but it dries down to a leathery-soapy scent. It reminds me of Prada pour homme, maybe because of the similar ingredients (leather, saffron). In my view the saffron makes it so perfect and close to skin. It is not overpowering, but yet has a good longevity. I feel it throughout the whole day. It is definately NOT a night perfume, because it is not so captivating and mysterious. Its just the perfect comfort you can afford to have for not too much money 🙂
Grad it if you feel like having nothing to say, but I AM CLEAN AND SAFE :)a perfect office fragrance!

  43. :

    5 out of 5

The notes of this perfume are elegant, gourmand and mysterious!
The bergamot and white pepper are there but not so pungent.
The leather, saffron and woody notes combined with the musk, amber and cedar are
    in magnificent harmony.
    10/10

I bought this blind based on a review that it was similar to D&G pour Homme. It shares a similar sensibility but the notes quite different.
I get a lovely peppery masculine opening which quickly morphs into something quite soft and comforting. I do notice a touch of mint but only very briefly. I think this shares a hint of Paul Smith London by Lie in that it has a slightly coconutty boozey appeal. Then there’s something synthesized and fruity like pineapple (like the note in Tom Ford’s Black Orchid). I think this is what they’re trying to pass off as saffron here. In its final moments on the skin you can detect a hint of leather but nothing worth mentioning.
It’s a poignant scent with noticeable sillage and a good 4+ hours of it too. I think I’d like this more in spring or a breezy summer evening as it’s quite juicy and refreshing (with a powerful spritzer too).
I find this elegant and unobtrusive.

I received the parcel I ordered, and this one was one of the three scents that was in the package. The primary reason for me ordering this one was it’s olfactive group, leather in this case. So, I was expecting a scent that will smell the rich leather nuances. In it’s ingredient list there’s Bergamot in the top note, woods in the heart beside the leather and Cedar, amber and musk at the base. So, naturally I was expecting a woodsy-leather stuff. When I first opened the cap it instantly reminded me of Badessarini classic cologne. The spraying vent of Baldessarini classic smels exactly like that (not the cologne), so I thought it might smell like the Baldessarini classic too. I wasn’t expecting a tobacco flower smell which I actually got at the beginning of the spray, that surprised me since the opening note includes Bergamot. I searched for Bergamot for 6 hours after spraying, never found it. I lived in Cote d’Ivoire for a couple of years, Bergamot’s smell is pretty familiar to me, I never found it in any note. Anyway, the tobacco blossom at the opening is not strong, the duration is pretty low too. The opening note transforms to the middle note very quickly. One thing that dominates the middle note is Mint which is also not mentioned in the note-list, beside a low degree woodsy note, hint of leather and saffron it is dominated by mint all the way. After an hour the scent smells like minty-leather which lasts for 3-4 hours on my skin. Though I didn’t get the amber but my colleagues could smell the amber and cedar at the drydown. It’s true that it really has a clean soapy smell which has been enhanced by the freshness of mint. The smell is little sticky and sharp but the silage is only average. The longevity is not very good either.
    Silage 6/10
    Longevity 6/10
    Overall 6/10
I don’t say this scent is not good, it’s good surely, but it’s just not a leather scent. People who think about buying it as a leather scent must test it before buying.

I just received this mistakenly from an online seller. I am gonna have to spend more time with this one to decide.
So far my first impression is the scent is so light and stays close to skin. It have a hint of sweetness and bergamot; making it smell so clean and fresh. I also get a tiny pinch of spices perhaps from pepper and saffron. The leathery note stands out the most like Bvlgari Black but L’essence lacks the smoky powdery’ness and I kinda like L’essence this way or even better.
So after 6 hours. I still can smell it. I don’t think anyone else around me can because it stays so close to skin the whole time. The scent doesn’t shift or change around much either. I may have to spray on extra next time.
Overall, I find it pleasing and elegant. It’s so much easier to wear than Bvlgari Black but I only wish this Cerruti would have a better projection. You know, I do want people to notice what I am wearing. It’s part of the whole scent idea.
