Blind bought this for myself, as winter has just finished here in Australia and it’s now spring – and FAR OUT what an amazing scent!!!
This is what I imagine Aquaman to smell like! Hahaha
Best blind buy ever. I definitely get the aquatic notes, and its somewhat very fresh and….zingy?? I can put my finger on it exactly, but it’s just a very interesting smell.
Also, longevity is amazing and it’s such a bright, happy scent. Perfect for the Melbourne spring/summer – a little bit also goes a long way, I gave one small spritz on my wrist and a few hours later had a shower, and it’s still heavily there on my skin – so use very sparingly!
I’ve read a lot of negative reviews on this, and it’s unfortunate that this magical fragrance just isn’t compatible with the negative reviewers – y’all miss out!

my advice: definitely don’t blind buy this one. I can’t smell this without making a sort of “urgh” sound and scrunching up my face… as to me it smells like urine and harsh cleaning product with some aquatic notes. That’s it. Very unpleasant.

I have several Issey Miyake scents in my collection, so tried this one. Sprayed it on my hand….
It just smelled like urine to me, like I urinated over my hand. Maybe my body chemistry is not compatible with this one. Don’t like to smell like this.
    A big dislike for me!
    Try before you Buy!!!!

Great fragrance. It’s just different, and I like that. Good performance, unlike the myriad summer iterations on offer anually from this house.
Surprised the new Super Majeure isn’t on here yet, but I’d probably buy that too.

Smells just like Azzaro Wanted: my husband uses AW and It’s just the same. A sharp and sweetened scent but a tad fresher

LOVE THIS JUICE. I see this it’s getting a lot of negative feedback I’m not sure why. It smells like 2016 Invictus Aqua minus the Invictus. Longevity and projection are beast for a summer frag. My new summer signature.

Terrible! Not even worth trying. A chemical mess, very sharp on the nose.

Yet another crowdpleaser and probably a safe blind buy if you like oceanic (not just aquatic) fragrances. From the outset, I got mainly citrus freshness with some salty-sweet ambergris notes evoking associations with summer sea. Quite similar to D&G Light Blue Eau Intense (or Swimming in Lipari) as well as to Invictus Aqua (2018).
Then there seemed to be something fresh other than the citruses. I was thinking somewhere along the lines of juniper, mint or lavender, but my last guess is cashmeran, which I usually perceive as fresh and relaxing at the same time. Not a bad idea, I must say.
As a whole, the composition isn’t very original or complex, but it is pleasing and fresh nonetheless. Ambergris (sea notes) gives it some density and saltiness without overdoing it (no excessive “egg smell”). Cashmeran keeps things smooth. It isn’t too sweet. And the bottle with its metal cap looks good (though the sprayer is the usual Miyake plastic one). So, I bought it for my father, who likes mainly fresh and aquatic fragrances. But for fragrance aficionados, it is nothing to lose your sleep about.

I have to agree with some of the points people have made about it being a typical ‘current smell’ but it’s still a nice scent and its better than a lot of the other synthetic sickly aquatics on the market I.e Invictus.
To me though you can still detect the Issey miyake dna and its one of those refreshing juices that just flows the moment it hits your skin. It evokes tropical water very well, great for a hot summers day and good longevity for once.

I like this. It has certain aspects from L’Eau D’Issey, D&G Light Blue PH, Versace Dylan Blue. But it also seems to have an almost Chanel Egoiste-like undercurrent that is really warming, mature, and intriguing. My sister hates the opening, but then she grew to “not hate it” after it was on my skin for a while. This one’s pretty underrated, considering that it’s better and more mature than a lot of “blue” fragrances and considering that not many people even know that it exists. Check it out at an Ulta near you because I don’t think it’s sold anywhere else in the States. I had to ask them to make a tester bottle because they didn’t even have a way to try it out

L’Eau Majeure D’Issey evokes the concept of water in a larger accord, symbol of strength and movement as the principle of creation. Its composition was thought to portray the wind that blows a marine spray with an innovative note of drifting wood that, over time, becomes salty in contact with the sea water, in addition to bringing some mineral nuances.
For this, the perfumers Fabrice Pellegrin and Aurélien Guichard created a fragrance from refreshing notes of grapefruit and bergamot, giving a luminous exit, as if it were the reflection of the sun on the water. In the heart of this ocean, a marine accord with mineral facets from ambergris. Finally, a base of woods and cashmeran, depicting a wood that floats, gently, on the waves.
The bottle was created by designer Todd Bracher and its glass seems to have been polished to perfection, bringing the brushed metal on the lid and reinforcing the aesthetics of the brand. It became more curved and anatomical and if viewed from the side, it has a similar shape to that of the female perfume (L’Eau D’Issey Pure). The slogan of the campaign reinforces the concept: “Designed by Water.”
Regarding the fragrance, I have some considerations to make: in the matter of freshness, I have always seen the fragrances of Issey (as well as those of Kenzo) as refreshing and green, built with citrus, aromatic herbs and a touch of wood, for the most part. Sometimes we also have ginger, a touch of cardamom, and yuzu. On the other hand, most mass-market brands have always brought fresh and blue scents, full of marine/ozone notes, besides melon, juniper and mint. It is as if exists a division between East and West.
Obviously, Brazil is the perfect place to enjoy these types of fragrances. Both types (green and blue) have conquered me for various reasons. But I confess that the more citrus and aromatic, the better for me. I do not get along, in a long term, with all the marine-fruity fragrances that are on the market.
That said, it seems to me that L’Eau Majeure D’Issey crossed the line and abandoned the roots of the classics of the line Pour Homme (traditional, intense and sporty) and decided to fit in the pattern of oceanic scents. Even L’Eau Bleue D’Issey version manages to be greener. It was released in 2004 and still holds the title of one of the most original creations of the last decades.
But does that mean L’Eau Majeure D’Issey is bad? No way. It’s a delicious scent, fresh and…BLUE. It does not seem synthetic, it has a good projection (although it exudes for a short time, because of the volatility of the top notes) and it has a good durability, although it becomes soft with the passing of the hours. My biggest criticism is because of the lack of the smell of salted wood that, apparently, remained in the sea (and on the olfactory tape)!
It’s amazing how ambergris and cashmeran give a soft sweetness to my skin, while the hints of salted wood are more vivid on the blotter (be careful when testing in the store). And maybe, because of this, some people have already reported similarity with Invictus, which also has notes of grapefruit, oceanic nuances and ambergris. In particular, I did not feel so much similarity on my skin, but I imagine it could happen to other people.
The bottle is beautiful, but the inscription Pour Homme is not recorded, not even on the box. I believe it is a reflection of the current moment in the perfumery, in which the brands are trying to abandon the segregation by genres.
To finish, L’Eau Majeure D’Issey has everything to become another huge success, mainly in Brazil, where the greater part of the public invests in this type of fragrance that pleases to all. But I can not let go of my unbiased sincerity and I am forced to say that this scent made me imagine diving into the sea, but it left me feeling like a dip in the pool.

Um fellas, Trussardi My Land? When I smelled it yesterday I fell in love right on the spot and I said to my girlfriend, “I love it but it smells like something I have”. And yeah for me it smells like My land without the leather. Sprayed it only on paper, not on my skin tho. And for crying out loud it smells nothing like Invictus!

I find this to be a pleasant scent. I get the ocean vibe though it’s not a salty one but more of a smooth velvety one found in Salina by Laboratorio Olfattivo. If anyone has ever smelled that one, you would understand.
I blind bought this one and I wouldn’t say that I regret it but if I had smelled it before, I would probably not have bought it. Not because it’s bad, but because it’s not that great either.

    ★★
Well, I don’t have much to say about it. To me it smells like Biotherm Aquafitness.
I can’t wait to see if others spot the similarity because I immediately thought about Aquafitness when I smelled it. L’Eau Majeure smells very 90s but there are better options if you want that kind of a fragrance.
I’m surprised some reviews state that this smells like Invictus or the future (even those two statements are contradictory). This is not at all like Invictus, there is no sweetness whatsoever and it is definitely not the smell of the future. Probably some people lost their sense of smell during the 90s.
Having said that, I prefer Biotherm Aquafitness to this 🙂
Go for Ralph Lauren Polo Sport, it’s more original in this genre!

    This is L’Eau going mainstream.
Up to this point, the distinct flowery-woodsy-citric component that always identified the different incarnations of L’Eau was dominant. Especially the woods in the dry-down made L’Eau and virtually all of its flankers sophisticated. Not always equally pleasant and original, maybe, but there was always a sense of quality.
This was sacrificed in this case. In L’Eau Majeure, the solid base of the previous instances of L’Eau is gone. In its place is the head-heavy, sticky sweetness of any random “current” smell. Clearly, Issey recognised that in the age of the uniform Boss smells and the post-2000 Italian mob, they needed something that fit in with the boring type of run-of-the mill stuff that seems to be everybody’s favourite these days.
The only detail that Issey got done better with this one is longevity, it seems. I sprayed a bit on my wrist, and two days later can’t seem to get rid of it anymore. Definitely a quantum leap there compared to the ephemeral nature of the original.
This will most likely find an enthusiastic *new* audience. But if you’re into the original and some of its more bearable spin-offs, don’t go near this stuff. Huge disappointment.

    I get fresh – aquatic (slightly) – aromatic – sour/sharp/incense/…..cashmere/musk……ish……?
Can’t put my finger on what it is but there’s a very different edge to this frag which really works and intrigues me to the point I really do find it quite addictive and when wearing it find myself repeatedly sniffing it, enjoying it.
I get and understand the negative reviews and can smell the aspects that really don’t work for some reviewers but then isn’t this testament to why Frags and Smellies are of interest to us, they’re evocative and personal, working for some and not others? We all like the individual/identity element to frags.
I expect the first smell is going to be like ‘first impressions last’ but if you’ve sprayed on your skin do give it time and I mean like probably a good 2 hours or so to mellow down and see what you think. It is VERY different to the opening and there is a transformation going on I haven’t experienced before to the same degree as with this one.
Life-span wise it’s mega and outlasts anything I own. The legs on this one seriously are detectable 2-3 days after (2 or 3 sprays on the wrist) even after showering and swimming. On my clothes I get the memory of this 3-4 days later! In both cases not the full complex scent but the slightly sweet/sharp/incense base.
It’s not going to work for everyone but at the moment I like it – lots. Different, fresh and amazing value for money.

I feel like some people have only tried 5 scents their entire life, one of those being Invictus, almost every fragrance review you have someone claiming it smells like Invictus…FFS no this smells nothing like Invictus at all…

this is a classy, quality aquatic. really well made.
    mature, formal, corporate code.
something to wear for work, meeting etc.
but it’s not alluring. not human enough, even.
it’s really some high tech android of the future smell.
    quality impresses but character alienates.

I am wearing this right now. First sniff of the bottle I got Salt and Sea, sprayed it on and couldnt smell much in the shop. Now its been on my wrist for about 2 hours and it smells close to dry down of bleu de chanel, I also get the invictus vibe as well. Drydown is too ubiquitous for me.

I tried this at a departmental store a few weeks back and was somewhat taken by it. The fragrance itself seemed nice and lasted for quite some time and caught onto my clothes and seemed fine. I sprayed some on a blotter aswell and it transferred on the inside of my pocket so whenever I put my hand into my coat pocket and took it back out, I was welcomed with a ‘scent’. It did smell a bit weird but I was more excited about the aspect that it lasted and the smell transferred onto my hands for many days to follow.
So I came across a tester bottle on eBay and was quick to snap it up… I have no idea but I wasn’t entirely happy with it. I have never been sea sick but the smell started making me gag. Something like steel/iron in a restroom, don’t really know how to explain it or how it would make sense but the smell was not exactly urinous but more to do with some metal being corroded (not rust!). Maybe the smell of keys or coins?!?! There is a really strange gut wrenching metallic saltiness going on in this and it is loaded with Calone….
I shouldn’t have even purchased it but I think the shape and design of the bottle played a big factor because it was something different to touch and felt quite nice to hold. Anyhow, I am glad I managed to get rid of it sooner and I feel so much better without it.
One thing I did like about it is that at some point it gives the impression of synthesised thin oud which I also have never fancied but I like that the different notes could produce this effect…. That slightly acidic, acrid note which lingers onto your skin and makes you think you’ve spritz some bleach on yourself.
Silage (yeah I got a compliment while wearing it) and longevity are excellent which usually is the case with the ones that don’t work for me personally!

    A big thing from Issey.
If you asked me how the Issey should smell in 2017 I would answer: Like this!
I agree with those who compare L’Eau Majeure with Invictus, but Invictus is just 20% of the scent that gives it modern structure. Majeure is no way an Invictus clone. Moreover, it’s not a clone of something and that’s why I made it a part of my collection.
Metallic, with some floral nuances, with a big ambergris part and a huge amount of salty molecules. Not sweet at all. High quality, modern but still a very Miyake style.
Another gorgeous creature of Aurelien Guichard.

Tried this one at a perfume shop and bought it because I found a nice scent. Nothing wrong with that, it’s fresh and salty. Good longevity. Safe buy.

  27. :

Well, it’s salty fresh with a wood sense, a bit of citrus in it and… thats it. Not so special imo.

  28. :

    3 out of 5

This fragrance is more diabolical than the atomic bomb which laid waste to Issey Miyake’s home town as a child….and I’m not being melodramatic.
Is it any surprise then the review below is from a guy who took me to task about a review of a similarly awful scent some time ago? No it isn’t. He clearly likes this kind of thing, whereas I find it abhorrent and offensive. I’m not getting at him for this, merely illustrating how tastes can vary in the most extreme of ways.
I’ve been whining recently about generic, uncreative scents saturating the marketplace and you’d think I’d embrace something which evokes such a colourful response in either direction, for beeter or worse….well I don’t! This stuff is horrific. Opens with a noxious cloud of salty, calone and a whole plethora of other messy, chemical crap. Yes it does have the same stuff going on as Invictus, Versace Eros (+ countless others) but makes those two seem the pinnacle of olfactory excellence in comparison. It’s got that acrid, flyspray smell that would knock you sick but at least when you use thinners or some nasty glue there’s a chance you might get a little high off it. No such luck here I’m afraid. I hate this fragrance I actually hate it. It might drydown really good or change or be nice on some people and I except that but I wouldn’t even give it a chance to drydown. Oh…Did I mention I didn’t like it?

  29. :

    5 out of 5

First thoughts, CLOSE to Invictus… close… but saltier, lacks any sweetness and leaves a distinctly CLEAN metallic/electric tang. Totally on the refreshing side. The cleanliness is decidedly too clinical for my taste where the dirty sweetness of Inv’ on the skin keeps that as a winner head to head. Despite my comparison,..oh my god!… THE LONGEVITY IS AWESOME!!
THE BOTTLE is also well designed and sits perfectly in a man’s hand.
Good one Mr Miyake, best of the new set.

  31. :

This is a gorgeous new scent. At first all I picked up were the salty aquatic notes. Power water is right. I didnt even notice the top notes (grapefruit) until it was explained to me later on. I love the salty aquatic woody notes along with the cashmeran musk. And besides, how often do you get to say “salty wood” throughout your day? You can’t spend every day on Grindr or Tynder. This is a versatile combination 😉 and it has that same “Issey” note that many of his other scents have from decades past. It is like the 90’s have come back, but in a modern way. In a way minimalism is modern to me, but in a different way now.
Having said all that, there is something about this fragrance that takes me back to my childhood in elementary school. The smell of glue stick, or the creamy kind of glue. There is something abstract about this scent, and it is an afterthought (afternote?), that reminds me of the smell of GLUE! And I love it.
Except this time it WON’T cause brain damage.
    Too late?

I was looking forward to this but unfortunately it doesn’t work very well on my skin…the silage reminded me of toilets i’m sorry to say – could it be a combination of the “cashmeran” and salty aquatic notes that make it smell like that on my skin?. On paper it does smell better so I would suggest to test this on your skin!
