Description

Dior launches a new exclusive collection of ten perfumes named La Collection Couturier Parfumeur in 2010., signed by the perfumer Francois Demachy. The collection illustrates the life of the founder – the famous Christian Dior.

The collection consists of re editions of three male fragrances: Eau Noire, Bois d’Argent and Ambre Nuit, and seven new ones: Mitzah, Vetiver, Granville, Leather Oud, New Look 1947, Cologne Royale and Milly-la-Foret. Vetiver and Leather Oud are masculine perfumes; Cologne Royale is suitable for both genders, while the rest are intended for the ladies.

Leather Oud perfectly and elegantly blends animalistic notes of leather and civet with noble agar and other woody nuances (patchouli, sandalwood, birch, cedar and vetiver). There are also ingredients of cardamom, cloves, amyris, beeswax, amber and labdanum, which complement this warm composition.

The fragrances from Dior La Collection Couturier Parfumeur are available in bottles of 125 ml, 225 ml and 450 ml.

    Wild and extremely attractive. 9.5/10

“To create this leather scent I envisaged the colors of an oriental-style painting revealing a world of dunes and horsemen. Its woody accord is a signature that is full of character, centered on a potent, animal Oud. It evokes saddle leather, the smell of a wood fire and sand”
    – The words of Demachy himself. Of course, something as subjective as scent leaves the door wide open to interpretation. I always try to imagine what the perfumer (or creative director) envisioned. It puts everything into perspective.
Leather Oud: The description, the scent; it’s all captivating. I get the saddle leather, the wood fire and the sand. This is everything one could hope for in a scent. The entire line is incredible. What a masterpiece.

Far bolder, dryer and more masculine than all the others in the collection. I sprayed on a paper card and could smell it whenever I walked into the same room, days later. This to me is like a male version of those femme fatale, white floral/tuberose scents that say “hey there, sailor”. This is every masculine fragrance trope on parade, but you can forgive it cause its done so well and oh so smoothly.

Oughh! It is one of the worst fragrance I have ever tried so far. How you can resist to sniff it? I couldn’t stand it and wanted to wash off from my skin.

It’s oud version of Kouros. It’s a strong classic smell with oud.

I find this whole line of fragrances very nouveau riche. The smells, the design, the large bottles, the prices. I don’t find it elegant at all. This smell is not bad, but it is a very loud oud, and it screams: “Money! Wealth! Power!” Not something I would ever dare wearing. I sprayed it once also on my jacket and it stayed the next day, a nice smoky oud. But I would think that wearing it would be almost offensive to people around me.

Jus Interdit by Jovoy is my favorite animalic scent. With that being said I am not an animalic lover. I am into the more balsamic type of scents so I knew that this would not be my thing but I had to try it anyway. That opening! Man ole man. It is fierce! Very pungent and overwhelming. Animalic, fecal and smoky all in a nutshell. This goes on for at least 5 hours until the civet dries down to more of a leather, smoky and spicy vibe. It is much more wearable for me at this stage but after so long it has me SMH. True oud and animalic lovers will love this for sure but for the rest of the fragrance community it is not worthy of spending a few bucks on a sample.

Nice but tame, needs to be turned up a few notches. It’s missing something in the background that BTVM has. BTVM obliterates this. Why did they not go balls to the wall on this tiny pretty bottle? Do I love it? Yes but I simply want more and stronger. Is it skanky? To me not at all, I would not use the word ‘skank’ for this, then again skanky is a personal perception, ever smelled a tonsil stone? Was it skanky or down right putrid?
Leather Oud is good yes and the bottle I have is neat, so tiny, I just wish what was inside it was one dab and your done. 25 years ago I had some sort of sweet myrh oil in a glass vial, it was the same size as this bottle and the oil was super thick like honey,,if you swiped that myrh oil on fabric you will smell it for weeks, just one dab, on skin felt like an eternity. That can be good and bad I guess, I love this smell, it’s smooth, just want it to be stronger, then it might be perfect.

The most daring fragrance out of this line. It celebrates the unexpected encounter of contrasting notes. Highly animalistic, stinky, musky, powerful, sexual, vibrant and deep. It is an intensely masculine fragrance, with strong character in which leather notes intertwine with those of Gaiac Wood, Cedar and Sandalwood.
Development: It is complex. The scent opens with its stinky civet, leathery, oud and dirty accord which is delivered to you in a very classy and expensive way and as it settles on your skin and starts to dry down the patchouli, bee wax and labdanum smell gives this animalistic scent a warm rich and quite sweet volume.

  12. :

    5 out of 5

Wow! This is so warm and rich. The top is dry leather, labdanum and some civet and sweet westernized oud that quickly is drowned by honeycomb and some flowers. This is strong and powerful. A tiny bit goes a long way. I put this on at 10 p.m. At 10 a.m. I still smell it but the civet took over. Lovely!!!!

Much much tamer than its notorious reputation, this is a surprisingly mellow and barely animalic composition that presents a sweetened Oud with elements of leather, civet, patchouli, sandalwood, birch, cedar, vetiver. There are also ingredients of cardamom, cloves, amyris, beeswax, amber and labdanum which are very faint. The resulting composition has a very elegant and modern appeal, yet will leave many Oud purists cold. However, for those who prefer safe and discreet fragrances, this can be one Oud you can add to your collection. Ignore all these overbloated reviews. This is a relatively safe scent from a mainstream house that is quite well blended and tame with moderate sillage and projection and the barest of animalic feel to it. Enjoy!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAAH LOM is absolutely right!
I wore this in the Spring, wearing an Hermes
Birkin – wait – no – I did not WEAR this, but I
sprayed it on mY puff puff keychain & yes 😉
it was a lot. However, I was in a RICH area –
doing errands, sO, was completely suitable

  15. :

This is nouveau riche in a bottle. Heavy, expensive, aggressive, RICH. You can only pull this one off in super cold weather and if you don’t wear any designer clothes and don’t drive a sports car. Otherwise it would be just too much. It is dark and fresh at the same time, and is warming, but you should be really careful. Not for everyone. In fact it is most suitable for whoever is the opposite of this perfume.

At first I thought this is an unwearable freak, a pungent smell of male toilette, boy how was I wrong….
This is (I can’t believe I’m saying it) quite a gentle fragrance when applied apptly. Starts off quite acidic and then the journey begins….
Leather. Not really rough&tumble as I would expect from such a fragrance. For a change, it’s like a well made, really refined italian shoe made of very high quality leather. Sophisticated. Daring – oh yes, for sure! Quite provocative, maybe defiant even.
Fits very well to tuxedo, suit and tie and for any other occasions when you’re elegant. It’s not an everyday scent. It’s not a scent for an intimate occasion (at least not for me 😀 ) Last but not least it’s not a scent for a date.
    24 hours longevity, huge sillage.
Bravo Monsieur Demachy, I wish your recent mainstream fragrances smelled like Leather Oud…

I love this fragrance but had a funny experience with it today. I’m getting over a stomach virus that’s been causing fatigue, nausea and other digestive symptoms which I won’t go into here.
I applied Leather Oud just below my ears and on my neck. It started to make me nauseous almost immediately. Quite badly nauseous, but fortunately everything stayed put.
I tried covering it with another scent (Arabian Nights by Jesus del Pozo) but unfortunately the Leather Oud was more powerful and kept peeking through from underneath. I sprayed Arabian Nights over the Leather Oud I don’t know how many times over the course of the day, but wasn’t able to get rid of the Leather Oud undertones that were making me nauseous.
    Takeaways:
    1. Don’t use Leather Oud if you’re feeling the slightest bit queasy, because it will make it about 100 times worse. Not ten times, but 100 times. It’s worth noting that I wasn’t feeling nauseous at all before applying the Leather Oud, although I had been feeling that way on and off for the past week. So it was able to trigger nausea even when I’d been feeling fine that morning.
    2. Longevity and sillage are impressive! Even when covered by multiple (and I mean MULTIPLE) sprays of another fragrance. I’ve never come across a fragrance that absolutely refuses to be covered by another one. Leather Oud insists on being heard and will not be shouted down by anyone else. The Arabian Nights would dominate for a few minutes, but then the Leather Oud would come back as if it had never been gone.
    3. Arabian Nights by Jesus del Pozo is a great scent for what it is (synthetically rosy, oudy & woody), but it lacks the power to cover a more determined scent like Leather Oud.

Scent: Smoky civet (synthetic obviously). I’m a huge fan of oudh and don’t really get much oudh outta this one. The “barnyard” is not the oudh it’s the civet. leather mixed in but faint. also a dingy, old book smell. fairly linear.
Wore this for a few months, never got a single compliment even when layered with other frags. a friend told me that on my skin it smelled like a “sneeze” or “sick breath”.
not to be totally pessimistic…if you put yourself in a certain frame of mind this fragrance can meet you there—very unique scent. strong and long lasting.
i agree with monsoonpoint. i was like “man, this stinks.” but i had my nose buried in my arm for the whole first hour.

very masculine, complex, compliments galore. Does well on my skin, I really enjoy and love colognes of this nature, aquatics are way overdone by various Cologne Houses……Dior is Excellence…..a must have but a daring fragrance.

Well, this is just not my cup of tea, as we say in Danish, when things are more to the dislike side than to the like ditto, although not hate.
I get almost no leather scent, but a lot of unspecified animal – wet sheep or something. I can hardly imagine the charme of this parfume in a social relationship, and wearing it again would make me look over my shoulder constantly to avert an attack from a angry ram….
When I want the uber-masculine scent, I choose Cuir Mauresque. If the mood is for fine leather, I choose Cuir De Russie. And if it is time for a more piquant leather scent, I use Carbochar or even better Piquet Bandit.

As soon as I smelled this it reminded me of the fart spray me and my friends would prank people with in the mid 90’s. I don’t mean that as an expression I mean that literally. This reaks of stool and wet dog. There is not a slight chance that a single person will find this appealing on you. If anything they will probably assume you spoiled your pants. This might be just as repulsive as Secretions Magnifiques.

Just tested this on my skin at the store because I wanted to try it before purchasing Guerlain’s Songe d’un bois d’ete and almost really liked it, but the clove note was just too overpowering. I loved everything else about the fragrance. The leather and oud were very bold, and the civet note, but that clove just kills it for me. If you like clove and the other notes, this could be an amazing fragrance for you.
Definitely a masculine night time fragrance.

  23. :

    4 out of 5

The top notes on this one are pretty hard to take (yes, “poopy”), but it dries down to a quality oud like Hayat Kemi Blending Magic. Problem is, wearing this one is going to be harder. It’s just… hard to take. This is not one of those rapidly-vanishing scents. And, happily, it’s also not one of those medicinal ouds. High quality oud.
    Much better than M7!

Motorbike, leather jacket, cigarettes and all the common bad boy associations that women have yet to come up with. Unapologetic, unattached, untamed.
Everything you have ever secretly imagined for the perfect bad boy that falls for you. Animalic but somehow not dirty, plays hard but also works hard, kinky but compassionate, straightforward but playful. Always so strong.
When I try to wear it, I fail because it wears me. I become the object of it, I become the vulnerable girl that sleeps with him for his attention but I fail and I feel weakened even more.

Honestly, I have a love hate relationship with leather oud. Maybe because I’m not getting the oud note more than I’m getting civet!! The leather note is pretty weird. Comes and disappears.

Christian Dior’s Leather Oud is a great and beautiful parfum. The leather, musk, civet, and patchouli make this a rich sensual/sexual scent. The beeswax, honey, and labdanum attempt to tame this parfum, but it doesn’t really work. The animal is out of the cage and isn’t going back in. I asked a friend what he thought of this and he said “it smells like balls”… Well there you have it my friends. Balls! However, it could be locker room, dirty tee shirt, underwear etc… But I don’t think so. The “sex” aspect of this is definitely present. But it’s more, it’s Dior’s mastery of creating parfum that is really at work here. It’s picking just the right accords, essences, natural and synthetic and mixing them to create an experience that we, the wearers of this parfum get to write our impressions and experiences, and perhaps fantasies, about. Originally, I gave Leather Oud a rather lukewarm review and have since rewritten it. I wore this several times and felt that it was rather tame. Then I sprayed my chest and neck liberally. About an hour later I caught a whiff of myself and boy was I surprised! Yes, it’s dirty and sexy. Yes. I have the 8 oz bottle – worth every penny. I love this fragrance and feel that Dior could have really pushed this further and made it a real stink bomb! I love challenging, loud, unafraid big fragrances. Leather Oud really comes close. I also own Laurent Mazzone’s Hard Leather, and if you ever want a real animalic, whopping scent that lasts all day give yourself two blasts of Leather Oud and two of LM Hard Leather. Then go have sex with someone or a few people… He he he. Because you’re going to smell like sex one way or another!

I have not heard it mentioned, but there seems be a beautiful smooth sandalwood note in this along with everything else mentioned. This fragrance is obviously an extremely thoughtful and precise composition. It really is a masterpiece.

  31. :

    3 out of 5

the civet note is really intense, it could be hard to wear for some. I would not say this is versatile at all, so having only a 100ml bottle available could mean that some people would not justify owning a full bottle of it. it is unique, very masculine. but again as a middle eastern with a family obsessed with oud and strong masculine fragrances, maybe not as hard to pull off. I can not smell oud in this fragrance maybe cuz the civet is really strong. I would not mind layering this on top of pure oud oil just cuz I think it would balance civet so nicely. maybe some jasmine oil but have to experiment.

Very animalic scent, smells amazing! when i 1st sprayed this it reminded me of Antaeus in its animalic qualities, its a very manly scent. i dont detect much oud tbh, for me the civet & leather are main players but oud is on the back burner providing the signature oud hum backing the main notes up, it works really well for me. this is a scent for men 30+, try before you buy
    Thumbs up from me!!

  33. :

    4 out of 5

Question: is the civet in this fragrance animal-derived or synthetic?
Apparently Dior does test on animals, but what about ingredients?

  34. :

    4 out of 5

I can add nothing new or insightful other than to say this fragrance is for manly-men and I love it. Boys, don’t even dare put your mitts on this beast juice…just stick to your fresh & fruity mall scents, because this one is designed for men named James Steel, Snake Pliskin, Ted Fisticuffs and Kouros (Killer) Kowalski…and not Jody or Pat.
I get a strong, dirty, animalic vibe–with a flavorful but not overpowering oud–along with a dirty-leather that is expertly well-blended with a bunch of other masculine goodness. The end result is an outstanding fragrance that others have described in great detail.
I detect no civet, barnyard or beeswax smells that had me a bit nervous about this one. Okay, I admit the ladies are not big fans of Leather Oud the first hour or so (I love it but it can be a bit harsh) but they are fine with it when it sweetens-up and the oud and leather become more prominent. Needless to say, Leather Oud lasts 20+ hours on my skin (with or without shower) and will fill a small warehouse if you apply it as though it were a normal fragrance. One or two sprays tops! In fact, I would start with one-half spray on each side under the shirt just to be safe.
Overall, a Classic fragrance that packs one hell of a punch. As much as I love this fragrance, it is not a blind-buy so try before you purchase.

LO was once one of my favorites. But, after buying a FB and giving it a few wearings, I realized it was not my cup of tea. Too dirty and animalic/fecal for my taste, repulsive to the vast majority of the people. Sure, I wear perfume for myself… but I can’t have a 125ml bottle to wear only at home.
Nuclear staying power and sillage, to worsen things.

Oh my. I just received this in the mail today. Blind buy, and I was wanting this for quite a while. Totally worth it.
The opening is maybe the most fecal/challenging I’ve ever experienced from a fragrance before, and it’s awesome.
If you’re a fan of Absolue Pour le Soir, Kouros, Salome, etc. – then check this one out!
The dry down also… think of that dry down smell of Kouros and Absolue Pour le Soir – you know what I mean? That sweet (honeyed?) musky smell? Now, add some dirtiness to that.
If you’re into animalics, totally check this one out! Recommended!

This is a big, deep, dark, spicy beast, and I rather like it! It’s a good bit spicier than what I’m used to wearing, but I’ve really enjoyed the way it has evolved. Straight up I got a big hit of the patchouli, and as the morning progressed, I got just the tiniest touch of sweetness – not sure where that came from, as there’s nothing particularly sweet in this. Maybe it’s the way it reacts with my skin chemistry, but it works. The leather is right there, but it’s a smoky leather – kind of like what you’d expect a big leather Chesterfield would smell like, after it’s spent its life in a classy gentleman’s club, absorbing years and years and years of aftershave and cigar smoke. Underneath that is a very slight rank note, which I’m guessing is the civet, with a dusty wood overtone. It’s one of those scents that smells really good on your clothes – I only put on the tiniest of sprays this morning, and my dress smells fantastic. This is probably not one I would reach for a lot of the time, but I do like the way it smells, and I’ve definitely enjoyed sampling it – (and thanks again purecaramel for the sample!). I’m curious to see how it would work layered with something lighter and less spicy – Eu D’Hermes perhaps? Yes? No?

My Signature Fragrance, I usually do one more spray on my inner elbow, I cannot stop Sniffing it, I literally stuff my nose into it.
This is the best leather oud smelling fragrance out there, the performance is beast
I see Hassanal Bolkiah or Hades (Greek god of Underground) Wearing it, Or In Fact any other King/Monarch/Gods
When I wear this It feels so ethereal that I want my whole house to smell like this, for eternity…

I own the big bottle of this juice.
Landshark nailed it! In fact I don’t think I could say it any better. The only thing different is that I would give it a 9 and I love the animalic quality.

Christian Dior’s Leather Oud of the Collection Privee is certainly dead-on in its name, as it really is mainly a mix of leather and oud, and so very animalic, dirty, and masculine, as you might expect.
The oud is very wet, damp, and woodsy, not dry and desert-like, and that’s an evocation perhaps not directly related to the oud itself but the scent overall. The leather is a dirty leather, not smooth at all like the Coach Leatherware collection but rather the smack to the face that one gets in, say, Tuscan Leather. As far as other notes, the birch factors in for me, kind of a darker charred woody/boozy accord that adds some color and alternate to the extremely animalic eponymous notes.
As far as evolution, I don’t find the opening so overwhelming (or even offensive), and I don’t find that the dry down softens it all that much.
The elephant in the room is the note of civet, which I imagine is synthetic given that the fragrance is contemporary enough, and this civet
I can easily see how Leather Oud is polarizing (as corroborated by the voting here), as one is either a fan of animalistic scents or not. Similarly, it’s a very strong performer, as one might expect that there’s no doing this halfway—that in order to realize this fragrance fully, it has to be a bit of a bomb, and that much is achieved here for sure. A bit too animalic for my taste but it’s really a tremendous achievement as far as an animalic scent.

I have had samples of this from Dior for a couple of years, and always found its animal fire to be so intense I couldn’t go for a full bottle. Last month, I finally decided to – finding a bottle at a good price at Heathrow.
And I have to tell you – the blend of this has been changed and it has been toned WAY down – it’s no longer the beast, and a mere shadow of the samples I had. It has far less longevity and is now greatly tamed. Previously the samples I had were so fierce they were almost unwearable, and now it’s more like a pussycat than a jaguar. Not sure if it still has its charm .. seems more like a generic leathery oud sense that won’t turn many heads.

Initially I could not believe this fragrance, I mean it seemed at the top of the raunchy “night soil” heap. Then I wore it for several days and fell in lust. It is almost a modern day original Kouros (though not as good overall).
I think this creation is a throw back to the times when perfumers supplied a little funk with the fantasy, A small portion of poison and a large dose of the antidote, both from the same bottle. It reminds me of Kouros and how I initially thought it was rubbish although now I totally love it.
Like Kouros this is bottled up “Kavorka”!
Funk it up a little, live.

With respect to Dior, this is just disgusting. It smells like faeces and I see I’m not the only one reporting that. With so many beautiful fragrances on the market, I don’t understand what people see in this or why anyone would part with cash to smell so bad. I admit I’m not a lover of Oud but If its subtle and blended with nice accords, I’m partial to it, but If I met a man wearing this, I’d run the other way! FAST! Ughhh! Bad bad bad bad bad.

    Wow!
Super powered leather/smoke oud that lasts very long.
The name is not telling lies or promises the frag will not fulfill.
It does exactly what you would expect. The raw materials appears to be top notch, so simple, so true, never boring. Pricey but worth it.
I am very happy I found this gem, finally.
    End of the search.

Rolling greys cover the dying, brown earth. Countless days of wandering in this vast barren world has brought you to the end of your days…no water, no food, no companion. Covered in the burning ash of oud and wrapped tightly in a constricting animalic leather cloak, you stare aimlessly into the depths of the dark sky. The whole world is a wasteland, the smoke and flames of burnt cedar and birch coat your lungs and the only foliage is the deep brown of dead patchouli to mark every doomed step in a hollow crunch. A few more shallow breaths before the dark comes. You stir at the sound of footsteps approaching – it is the silhouette of a woman, pale and golden against the black of night. She reaches toward you and offers some water to sate your ashen mouth – she leans close enough that you can smell the warm, fleshy resins, sandalwood, honey, and amber of her quietly glistening skin. She gently touches your face and tells you that everything will be alright. You close your eyes tightly and pray that she speaks the truth – you fall asleep under her tender care. When you wake again, you find you are strong enough to carry onward, but your savior is nowhere to be found…you shed a lonely tear – it turns to dust as it touches the ground…of course such beauty was a dream, this is an endless wasteland after all…
Day 72 – Only in our dreams
Listening to: Flume – Take a Chance (feat. Little Dragon)
Notes: I have to agree that this is an aggressively masculine scent – maybe appropriate for a dungeon master…it’s that intense! There is a lot in here to turn people off – right off the bat this fume pummel you with an unrelenting civet and oud note with a dusting of animalic cloves and cardamom. It is a little hard to put nose to flesh to really get in it – I honestly didn’t like it my first two wears. Over the course of its 12 to 14 hour life, LO slowly transitions from the potent spiced leather and oud with the slightest touch of cedar and vetiver to a gradually warmer, smoky labdanum and honey (comb) with a dry warmth coming from a sandalwood and amyris. It smells like a fantastic rendition of Oud Ispahan without the rose – 100% woods, spices, and resins! I can say that I do enjoy this quite a bit and it is unique in what it does and how it does it – definitely not for the faint of heart!

A great one, intimidatingly mature, yet gentle soul in the heart of what looks like a beast at first. Very expressive juice, for nomadic person, who has no desire to settle down, its a loneliness that takes the form of a kind of solemness and solitude. Hugest leathery oud with birch tar and oily-balsamic vibe, what might shock some ppl at first – later will be greatly appreciated. The highest score from me.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is a true monster. It starts being oudy and leathery but it changes to something very dirty and animalic after some 6-8 hours. It stays for at least 24 hours on my skin. I would definitely not use this in the office. But if you are going out then this will definitely be your best weapon.

This fragrance is beautifully constructed – however, it was clearly made for people who cannot normally wear this type of heavy scent. If your skin tends to project fragrances very well, then you probably own lots of fragrances similar to this genre, darker, warmer, heavier, spicier, perhaps with leather, perhaps without – my point is, that if you have lighter skin; skin that does not project fragrances quite as strongly, then you are probably hesitant of buying anything heavy, warm or spicy. With this, I would say turn that thinking on its ear. Allow me to explain myself: by all rational logic, based on all empirical evidence, this fragrance should work with my skin beautifully. I do best with warm, spicy, woods, musc, leather, etc. I have dark-ish-olive skin that normally projects these very well. However, this fragrance literally bombed on my skin. It was interesting though, because two of my friends (who have very light skin and normally avoid warm-spicy, dark frags like the plague) also sprayed this one and the smell was so different it was hard to believe it came from the same bottle. We also tested a bottle of Montale’s Oud Leather. On my skin, it was perfect for me – exactly as advertised – exactly what I thought it would be. On theirs, again, it was very different – but this time, they were the ones who were confused and disappointed. At the end of the day, I loved this fragrance when I smelled it on their skin; but for someone with warmer, projective skin, it will be overbearing and come off very unbalanced. I traded this one away asap for Montale’s Oud Leather, and I never looked back. If you are looking for the best of the best leather/spicy scent but want a little less heavy on the Oud, then I would recommend “Duro” by Nasomotto. If you love the oud but want something a little more crisp, sensual and professional, I highly recommend “Pardon” also by Nasomotto. If you’re just super into the whole Oud-Rose combo and are trying to find the best one since they discontinued the 2002 formula of M7, then you need to purchase a black bottle of “Arabian Nights” by Jesus Del Pozo. You will have to go to a foreign website to do this, unless you want to pay triple what its worth on ebay just so you know.

The good, the bad, and the ugly about Leather Oud (and note that some claim there was a significant reformulation, but if that is the case I have the “vintage”‘ formulation) :
The good is that there is no deception here; you get woods, a hint of smokiness, leather, animalic elements, and a bit of what I think of as oud. It lasts very well though projection seems more good than monstrous (one spray to the chest)..
The bad is that it feels like it’s incomplete, which is okay for me because I think this would be great for layering purposes. Also, it doesn’t have quite the depth of the vintage greats, though I wasn’t expecting that to be the case. And of course the price is going to be a “dealbreaker” for a lot of people.
The ugly is that this is a “dirty” scent, so consider the social circumstances before spraying it on. If you think Kouros (vintage) smells “clean,” then you might perceive this the same way, for all I know. I think you could create a similar effect, actually, by layering Kouros and Alyssa Ashley’s Oud Pour Lui. It won’t smell exactly the same, but you will certainly be in the same neighborhood.
Also, it’s rather linear, which some people like and others don’t. Overall, the “clean” type musk used here may be a way to “modernize” this Kouros/Yatagan/etc. type scent, and while I like the smell, I’m not sure if it offers enough contrast for my tastes, so next time I intend to use it in a “layering experiment.”
UPDATE: Second regular wearing. I actually like it more now, as I’m getting a bit of something ambery that softens this up and make it more balanced. Since the first wearing, I obtained a bottle of One Man Show Oud Edition, which is similar, but in the drydown some “cheap” aroma chemicals show up, which ruins it for me (especially since I can wear Leather Oud instead). If you are on a budget and don’t mind a bit of iso e super, you can try OMSOE. LO is one of the few niche scents that I would not consider selling or swapping, due to the unique combination of “heavy” notes being blended so smoothly.
