This guy starts out a bit dusty and waxy. It blooms on skin after a couple hours, though. The drier wood gets joined by volunteer suggestions of dewy roses and lemon juice. Nothing ever leaps out; the sillage seems to increase, but remains quite light.
None of the notes I pick up seems particularly lifelike or especially high quality, but the balance and persistence speaks to a perfumer with a deft hand. It pleases and exceeds my expectation through something akin to pluck.

I love sandalwood, but I don’t care for this. It does not smell like sandalwood to me, just a sweet synthetic smell. A bit like plastic.
It does remind me of Adam Levine, which I also did not care for. If you like Adam Levine, you will probably enjoy this. I cannot stand it, even for layering.

A lovely young woman from India gifted me a roll-on bottle of this scent today after I complimented her on her perfume. When first applied, I smelled sandalwood and plumeria or champa flower in the opening. After wearing for a few hours, all I can smell is sandalwood and a hint of other woody base notes. It’s actually pretty nice for an inexpensive perfume and I am very glad to have the gift. 🙂

The roll on has low sillage and good longevity. I find it VERY cost effective!
As for whether it truly smells like a Sandalwood solo fragrance…. no. It smells like a tribute to Sandalwood, and very like Adam Levine’s dry down, though with far better longevity. In other words, enjoyable if not amazing.
On it’s own it is simply good, even if synthetic. Layered? Different story! This is EXCELLENT for adding longevity to various sandalwood based fragrances (Adam Levine included), or even a floral that needs a touch of sandalwood to ground it. A wonderful tool for your layering arsenal. 🙂
Update – I’ve now purchased Sonia Kashuk’s Red Promisia and find she too has a lot in common with King of Sandal. The overall feel of Red Promisia is a little more floral and sweet, thanks to the addition of subtle jasmine and vanilla, but overall she gives very much the same sort of impression in dry down as Adam Levine and King of Sandal. If you’re wanting a more unisex scent, choose one of the latter two (or better yet, layer them!), but I consider all three to be budget winners.

Very subtle, kinda astringent at first but quickly smooths out to slightly sweet and creamy. Very interesting and unlike any other sandal oil I own. I agree that yes it is very similar to a synthetic modern sandal scent like Adam Levine. It’s an oddball, worth having for the fan of sandal and oils.

This is a bit different than most other sandalwood oils I have tried. It is not as sweet and is a bit more spicy. It also has a bit of a synthetic scent to it. It goes on strong but settles down and stays close to the skin at which point it almost has sort of a butter/rum vibe going on. It lasts about 5 hours and vanishes into nothing, at least on my skin. This is not the best example of sandalwood, but for $3 I guess it isn’t necessarily a bad fragrance.

My review is for the roll-on oil version:
When I first put it on, it reminded me of weak terpentine… I started to wash it off but decided to give it a little more time. I am very glad I did, the only thing I regret is using so much (because it started out weak). After a few minutes it bloomed. It kept blooming and kept getting better. After about 5 hours it was still strong, mystifying sandalwood. After 13 hours it is still there! It is a great scent. I had purchased a bottle of the EDT spray and gave it away becasue it had a very short life. The oil is much more potent and I got six bottles of the oil for less than I paid for the 100ml spray. Great stuff. I will use it alone and for blending (gonna have to try it with Polo). The projection is good but it doesn’t arrive 10 minutes before you do.
    I rate it:
    Scent 10/10
    Projection 9/10
    Longevity 9/10
    Price surely 10/10
Update: 24 hours and I can still smell it on my skin. I have to get my wrist close to my nose now, but it is still there and still good. The roll-on is much better than the spray in my opinion.

If anyone is interested, Nabeel also makes the “King of” fragrances in a roll-on perfume oil. I bought the Sandal and Oudh scents. Trying the Sandal now. Will update later!

a beautiful light sandel yes its not the original mysore sandalwood but its still nice as the jill described…i usually get it for blending and layering works best with king of oud and rose…its a skin close sent and sandalwood is known for its antiseptic calming and aphrodisiac effect so its really worth it its a 100 ml bottle will last a long time u can even use it as a room spray or linen spray very fresh not cloying ..woodsy warm and sensual
