Description

The famous woody marine fragrance from Kenzo, Kenzo pour Homme from 1991, got its new edition Kenzo Homme Eau de Parfum in February 2016, inspired by the power of the ocean. The new Kenzo Homme is announced as a fragrance of a free man who draws his strength from nature. This intense, sensual and mysterious version marks the 25th anniversary of the original.

The new, aromatic, woody-aquatic creation is signed by perfumers Nathalie Gracia-Cetto and Olivier Pescheux. The fragrance supposedly combines freshness and irresistible sensuality. It opens with a fresh combination of citruses, mint and cardamom. The heart notes include sage and marine accords with some spices, laid on the woody base of vetiver, cedar, sandalwood and vanilla.

The face of the perfume is the French model and actor Nicolas Cazalé. The bottle kept the original bamboo form, colored in ocean blue that gradually fades from top to bottom. The fragrance is available as a 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

Very few reviews on this one!
I tested again today, yep it’s still an excellent fragrance in my opinion. I disagree with the Invictus and especially 1 Million (lol) comments, this is nowhere near as sweet, in fact it is fantastically fresh (closer to Invictus Aqua if any of that ilk). If this was hyped up by certain youtubers it would be a smash hit, it’s far more worthy than some of the overhyped scents for sure.
I smell mostly citrus and I guess it’s mint behind it which amps up the freshness with the sea notes adding a smidgen of saltiness. To my nose this is blended in such a way as to create a particular overall scent (which is what it’s all about really!) rather than each ingredient being easily identifiable, having said that I find the vetiver quite prominent, higher than the table above suggests. The base is woody but remains fresh, I don’t sense much vanilla but perhaps it is there to just keeps things from becoming bitter.
I’ll definitely be looking to add this to my collection when I need to replace one of my several freshies, nothing really new but it’s very nice juice (EDP) with superb performance!

I just smelled this today, I don’t get the hate for it and especially the low score here when stuff like Dior Sauvage is heavily worshiped but each to their own.
To my nose it’s a powerful and fresh modern men’s fragrance, it’s not reinventing anything but KHEDP is a strong challenger to the many (many!) other similar style scents out there.
Edit: Extremely long-lasting on my skin. I have a sample now so will give it a few more wearings, might buy a bottle. Really impressive stuff!

A citrussy slap in a face once you spray it. It was really too much for me to be honest. But once the scent settles a bit, I get mainly prominent sea notes underlined with mint and some woody notes with a slight sign of vanilla.
Fresh, uplifting for summer. Kenzo knows very well how to give water a smell. It’s not really any game changer to my nose – wish the spices would be more prominent to give it more masculinity, but still it’s very inoffensive safe fresh fragrance.
    To me 6,5/10.

Soapy. If you dig soapy stuff, check this out. I dare to say it’s a good gift for a man. I’m picky and I don’t like it myself but also I’m not getting the amount of dislikes here in Fragrantica. You sure you smelled this and not some of the other Kenzo flankers? 🙂
Try this and Bleu de Chanel Eau de Parfum and see which one you like better. See which one lasts longer. I’m not saying Kenzo Homme Eau de Parfum smells unique but… Go on and try ’em out yourself! 🙂
If you like this kind of scent, Zara Man Blue Spirit (2017) is also worth checking for!

If you like this one and want to go with a cheaper equivalent : get Mont Blanc legend spirit, its 90% the same, good longevity, with better ingredients.
What to say about this Kenzo eau de parfum…
    Explosive fruity notes…
    Synthetic cheap smelling dry down…
Lasts hours and hours with a cheap generic clone scent…
Welcome to the 2017 fags frags.
Im sad about Kenzo house. A real Kenzo eau de parfum would have been a direct buy from me.

OK hi everyone first post on here as an aftershave nerd but hey ho here goes! KENZO HOMME EDP – Nothing like the EDT! Completely missing the point, probably one of the worst fragrances I’ve ever bought! The original EDT was my fave all-time smell, so I was looking forward to the stronger EDP version, however it let me down so much! It just doesn’t smell ANYTHING like the EDT! And it doesn’t stand up to the so-called EDP longevity. This, or it’s a snide but I doubt it. I was tempted by the EDP from recent excursions with Armani Code Profumo – That one raised noses everywhere I went so you can imagine how excited I was when Kenzo brought out the EDP version of my fave smell. KENZO – SORT YOUR HEAD OUT! I WANT A REFUND!

The smell is kind of boring. I had to high expectations, probably. A lot of frags smells like this nowadays, Invictus among others.

I actually really liked this one,
i had already made up my mind not
to try this as i hated the original,
but i got a sample with a purchase so
of course i had to try it, as stated
by another reviewer this is an updated
version of the old one that is more suitable
for 2017 and i have to agree on that one.

Ends up smelling sickeningly cloyingly sweet on my skin. Almost like candy – a citrus Warhead or something. Thought I’d love this, but I guess it’s not for me.

Aquatic fragrance that preserves the same DNA of the other Kenzo Homme of the same line.
Here the beginning is quite beautiful and above all fresh, this freshness is provided by a cocktail of citrus, mint and cardamom that together with the marine note produces an immense and gratifying freshness, and then begin to evolve in a sweet woody with much less personality And much more generic and unbalanced than the beautiful beginning seeming here in the drying to so many other designer more, as some fellow pointing towards Invictus for example, and reason does not lack.
The duration is very good and the projection acceptable.
It does not convince me just yet.
    Rating: 4

Kenzo Homme EDP = Invictus AQUA (not regular)
And I agree that there is NO DNA of original Kenzo PH in this flanker !
Quite soapy – shower gel vibe as Invictus Aqua and YSL Sport have.
6/10 because of a good performance on my skin
decent frag but not must have unless you got a bargain….

Not sure why most of the audience here is against this fragrance.
I was honestly not the biggest fan of traditional Kenzo fragrances but got interested in this one as probably a bit sweeter than the EDT.
Indeed I have to agree with the fact that IMO this is a different perfume than the Kenzo Pour Homme EDT, reason why I like the EDP, yet in my opinion this is better.
THe opening could even be considered as a sweeter/milder version of the more pungent Pure Energy from Thierry Mugler, while on the long run I feel more the sweet vanilla note that well blendes with fresh citrus/cedar scent.
Longevity is quite strong: on my skin I can still smell it after 8-10 hours…while you if sprayed over clothes, watch out wearing other perfumes the day after….you can still smell the Kenzo!!
Sillage is probably average: 2-3h nice projection.
Last but not least: this is the only one my wife could blindly recognize when asking her to guess which fragrance it is!!!And she is quite bad with perfumes(unfortunately!!).
    Suitable also for office days
    Recommended: yes!

Lol it smells nothing like Invictus
Every time Kenzo releases a new fragrance for some reason people bring up Invictus, it’s weird and highly inaccurate

I bought this fragrance expecting it to be an EDP version of the vintage and well-known Kenzo Pour Homme. I was let down in this regard, as it is an entirely different fragrance. This has caused alot of people to harshly judge this fragrance. However, despite everything, its not a bad fragrance, in fact it’s quite good. Kenzo Homme EDP has a very soapy opening scent that is followed by a minty, citrus, aquatic scent with minor spicy notes. It has been compared to Invictus by Paco Rabanne which Kenzo Homme EDP does share some in common with, but both are different fragrances. This fragrance for the price has a good scent for the forumulation and lasts a VERY long time with moderate projection. For $45 it’s worth checking out, and is a good casual fragrance.
*Update*: After wearing this fragrance for several days, I can say with great certainty that it is indeed a strong fragrance, that has resulted in many compliments and questions about what I am wearing/where to buy it. I admit I was skeptical about this fragrance at first given the negative reviews, but it is indeed a solid fragrance that is sure to impress.

This fresh scent is too generic, and similar to the well known and cheaper Animale for men, that I had once. In spite of being a ‘parfum’, the projection of this Kenzo isn’t very strong. Longevity is normal. Certainly this is a good choice to practice sports.

And so I got it. Standard Kenzo Homme bottle, translucid to dark blue, simple and nice as usual. First try and I imediately got the bubble-gum smell mentioned, the extra sugar and of course Invictus. Reading the previous reviews helped me to identify everything, but that bubble-gum smell is the first to fade, or never is a predominant note, perhaps just a glimpse I get on aplication. The sugar goes on, but looses the “extra” on its way to the base a couple of hours later. Coming back to the initial try I also identify a note, very faint, that usualy disturbed me on Kenzo Homme, a plastic one, like a wet styrofoam. I think sillage is weak, and the whole perfume soon becomes a skin scent, but what rests in the end brings a fresh feel that reminds me just a bit Kenzo Homme. Overall this is a mild sweet scent (strong only in the begining), and, at least for me, that final fresh tone and that faint wet styrofoam scent I get sometimes, both very easy to be missed, are the only links to Kenzo Homme. Everyone already knows it’s not an “EDP” of the original, in the same way L’Eau Par Kenzo Intense is not an “intense” version of the original L’Eau Par Kenzo. I never liked Invictus, I certainly don’t like Par Kenzo Intense (more close to Invictus kind of smell), I am easily disturbed by Kenzo Night, Par Kenzo Eletric Wave is a more wearable Par Kenzo Intense, and so far nothing else seems to be a real flanker of Kenzo Homme. Kenzo “Sport” is more a flanker of Kenzo Woody, and Sport Extreme only is a sweeter version of Kenzo Sport. Apart the original, I’m more ok with this “EDP” than all the others I mentioned in this review. It’s like a movie I go to see with very low expectations and turn out to be ok. But the contest for the Oscar of lack of originality is still on (it’s always on nowadays), and I can put some Mont Blanc fragrances I tried recently in the list.
4 days now in a row, day and night tests, and right now with Kenzo Homme on one wrist. I also took the oportunity to come back to Kenzo Boisée/Woody. This EDP is still devoloping as a skin scent rather quick, and the others impressions I had remain the same. Sillage and specially longevity of the original Kenzo Homme keep going well. From the “Kenzo Homme” family Boisée still ok, and this new EDP still ok, that one more herbal and this one more sweet, but seems to last even less than Boisée. Anyway, the all tries only made me wish more that someday they will abandon this mass market orientation to take some risk and make a real bold version of the original Kenzo, how about also improving the fresh tone, without loosing the spirit “aquatic”, etc. I´m sure there’s pleny room for it.
After ten days, I never used the original KENZO HOMME so much, and this Kenzo EDP is the great responsible for this. I even got my second compliment ever on Kenzo Homme today! Botton line: must likely I´m not going to buy another Kenzo EDP once (or if) my bottle finishes. Pointless as an EDP of the original, and probably will be pointless if you want a differente take on Invictus (I think Par Kenzo Eletric Wave do a better job as a sweet scent with more balance and some substance, and Par Kenzo Intenso is more Invictus like with some variation). In the end, a weak and watery scent with not much to say as an aquatic neither as a sweet fragrance. Fabio Dondeo said much more than me with this diary when he wrote “generic” in his review above “:¬).
Ok ok, more inconsistent is not easy to be. But today, 13/12/2016, I can say I´m ok with it.

Bought this just yesterday in Tehran’s MotherPerfumes for about 75$, which is a pretty modest price for a good, reputable brand here in Iran. I tested like 25 different perfumes in a span of 2 hours, 45 minutes to make sure about the sillage and longevity. This was the only one among the latest I could choose and I am happy with my purchase.
The top notes are the same as mentioned here. The same is with the midnotes. But the end note has no trace of vanilla or vetyver IMO. It’s more of a mixture of cedarwood and musk.
The sillage is very good and the longevity excellent. Highly recommended for those who seek to give an impression of appeal and freshness at the same time.
IMO, it can be used even in autumn.

Must be morbid curiosity, or a masochist thing, but I just want to try it. The store around here just got the packages full of Kenzos EDP, but no tester yet. So I wait. But haven’t you all tried the new L’Eau par Kenzo Eletric Wave? That’s another take on Invictus smell. I had L’Eau par Kenzo Intense (not at all an intense version of original, just another take on Invictus), and that L’Eau Eletric Wave follows the same path. Just less bad than L’Eau Kenzo Intense! Indigo was a different thing, but then what have left of originality maybe sunk to the botton of the abism.

  20. :

It has zero similarity to Kenzo Homme! Why the hell do they call it Kenzo Homme EDP? And furthermore it doesn’t have the strength of an EDP. It can either be a light EDT or a Cologne or L’Eau or Eau.
    Complete disappointment! Forgettable nondescript scent.
    2 thumbs down!

    ★★
Misleading marketing. This is by no means the EDP version of the original Kenzo Pour Homme from 1991, but a new perfume instead.
Sweet and aquatic, nothing new, pleasant but cloyingly sweet, with a mediocre longevity and sillage. (after 4 sprays on one arm)
Fans of the original, stick with the current EDT formulation of Kenzo Pour Homme as it still is one of the most interesting and authentic marine scents around.
The current perfume market is officialy on a descending curve in terms of both originality and quality.

Excellent new version of the classic Kenzo Homme, really updated for nowadays. Fresh, more green than aqua, very sophisticated, fresh and refined. Downside is that it doesn’t last that long, especially for a parfum, but otherwise an excellent scent.

  24. :

    4 out of 5

Has nothing to do with the original Kenzo pour Homme.
NADA QUE VER CON EL ORIGINAL KENZO POUR HOMME. ESTE NUEVO “EAU DE PARFUM” ES PARA CONFUNDIR A LA INMENSA MAYORIA DE COMPRADORES QUE ESPERAN UNA VERSIÓN MÁS CONCENTRADA DEL MÍTICO KENZO POUR HOMME. (una estrategia comercial que no dará resultado)

  25. :

    5 out of 5

It is a weaker version of Invictus as has been said, only Invictus lasts twice as long. Design of the bottle is nice, that’s the positive. This just lacks any imagination or creativity, something Kenzo were famed for, whether you loved or hated their fragrances, they were different. Longevity was shocking, three generous sprays, I had 2 hours from it, avoid and buy something more imaginative. 0/5

Why Kenzo destroys their Kenzo Pour Homme legend with this lame flanker is beyond be. Another Invictus clone. Shame on you Kenzo ! Absolutely not worth your nose and cash.

  27. :

Kenzo became the low profile brand of the LMVH portfolio just as Joop! became the same of Coty. Sad story.

  28. :

This thing is horrid! So unimaginative, so dull, so meek! Has nothing to do with the original Kenzo pour Homme which in my book is one of the greatest scents of all times. And they dare call it eau de parfum!Plus a tacky bottle and totally artificial ad. What a letdown!

  29. :

    4 out of 5

A 95% copy of Paco Rabanne Invictus which I hate. At the start the Kenzo has some bubble-gum in the background, though in the base it is becoming a full clone of Invictus.
Strange and sad thing: a second Invictus clone from Kenzo (after L’eau Intense) in a year…

  30. :

    5 out of 5

I totally agree with Endymion. In my late teens and early twenties, I loved Kenzo because they were rather different in the designer segment. But this, this is about as generic as it gets. I’ve smelled this before. Does it remind me of Dior’s Sauvage? Who knows.
There is no link to the original Kenzo Pour Homme, not even a slightest note. And that’s okay, because it’s no problem if Kenzo would decide to come up with something completely new. Except, this isn’t something new at all. They haven’t done it before, but a lot of others have. And that’s a shame. Kenzo was one of the few houses I still had a high regard for within the segment, but this doesn’t really do it any good.

Guys, guys, relax! All I see in comment section is most of you being worried how it smells, because someone elses opinion. Just try it…
It maybe has some similarities with Invictus, but that’s just this aquatic feel. Buy hey – it is meant to be that way, it’s for HOT days. To me, it is extremely pleasing. Actually, number 1 on my summer wish list.
    Just try it!

what a shame the whole thing.
Kenzo Homme had charisma, was different to all.
It’s like if they poured half bottle of Bleu into the old formula. making the good, bad.

    I just sprayed it testing.
I immediately get Paco Rabanne Invictus in mind.
    Smells so much like it.
It’s an half hour on and still the same.
But i think it smells good.
    less cloying than invictus

At Kenzo they’re completely out of ideas, which is especially sad for they were very creative back in the old days.

Tested this yesterday around 04:00 pm.
Opens very Fresh with the Lime and Lemon.
Today 01:00 pm still going strong.
Clean Woody and a bit sweetness in the drydown.
    This is longlasting freshness!

Since its reformulation that makes it become just a light scent, I only dream of this flanker…I hope not feel disappointed! Thanks Kenzo!
