A aromatic that hails back to vintage fragrances with lavender and violet.
Overall this is understated and masculine with 5 hours longevity and fair projection, but poor sillage
I have trussardi my land , which performs better and has more of and edge
Rocky mountain wood has more of a base and better performance than the original here
not bad, but not great in my opinion
could be a great casual fragrance for a 30 plus man at discounted prices

sheer brilliance, original, refreshing, outdoorsy..mix of pure wood smell in forest and saw dust with violets up top…clean and masculine.for outdoor activities like logging, camping, hiking, work, trekking…this is an ideal scent.in the summers day it lasts 4/5 hours…but in cooler spring days i got up to 7 hours…projection isnt bad also…this sits right behind rocky mountain wood for me…so good to smell….not synthetic or cheap…niche quality juice.
    8.5/10 for me.a must try

I hated what I smelt initially but as it sat on my skin it turnd into something beautiful. it’s absolutely fresh and calming.
I wouldn’t recommend it for closed settings though, I find it to be more suitable for outdoors.
but it’s really nice anyway, something unusual, you should give it a try, especially if you enjoy violets.

I thought it reminded me of the sorely-missed Kenzo Air when I sampled it at the department store. After some wears, I noted something was off until someone pointed out that it smells like Magic Marker – It is artificial and extremely sweet. I would avoid.

Expectations are always coupled with disappointments when they are not met! That’s why I always allow fragrances to surprise me,as a result,I love and like everything in my collection.
This scent is great, violets and wet or green wood similar to what you would get pruning a lush green tree branch. The wood is there, just not as dry as we’re accustomed to in perfumery.
    Wonderful performance, very uplifting scent.
This is aromatherapy, isn’t this the reason why we are fragrance junkies?

Read a review on here, purchased a sample (wow, – you have to purchase samples now??)Was terrible, soapy, nothing like wood, blah cheap womanly perfume-like cologne. Going to try the rocky mtn edition, hoping for more than what this deceivingly cool looking bottle has in it.

Smells old. The powdery notes makes it feel almost like a dusty grandma-perfume. I have a hard time with violet notes in general, it gives some kind of powdery-meets-liqoricue smell that I can’t stand. I hate when my boyfriends wears this.

Where’s the wood? This must have a massive dose of Iso E Super – an aromachemical I strongly suspect I am anosmic to – because I can’t smell anything but synthetic violet ionones and musk. There are much cheaper ways to smell this cheap.

I’m a woody-kinda guy, lovin’ all things vetiver too, but after all these rave reviews below, I was quite disappointed by the smell of this can…
too flowery and not any pronounced wood-scent.
    a pass for me unfortunately.

Hahaha, ooopsy…review is in the right place now…
Anyway, I’m interested in why the intense version has “watery notes” and this one doesn’t. That must be where I was getting that floral “soapy” feel. Plus, the pepper must have been the incense.
I’ll have to get a sample of this one to make a better comparison, but I can totally see the original being less harsh off the top. Still, the drydown of Intense He Wood is actually pretty good, acquired taste or otherwise.

Just bought a back up bottle. Big Big love for me and under the radar for sure. One of my favourites and a quintessential fall fragrance for me. Definitely niche quality. Longevity is incredible on me, 12+ hours, and projection is moderate . I get a lot of compliments on this one. One of my most complimented frags. I will always have a bottle of this one.

HeWood is the ONLY scent my man wear. And I love it to. On his skin the woodsy notes shines perfect and the Violet is very discrete but there. A very Male’ish scent and a head-turner =)

I have to add an review on this.
I work in a hotel cleaning rooms and sometimes we have stayovers, when the person is still staying at the hotel and we just change the basic things.
One room I entered, as fast as I came in this scent hit me, and it was so lovely. The whole room was filled with this scent, but not in a bad way, not heavy or anything like that. It was soft and seducing and just very lovely.
It was standing in the bathroom and I had to pick it up to sniff it even though we are not allowed to touch the persons things. I picked it up many times as I cleaned the room and its not something I’d wear myself, but I could definitely get this for my future man. I felt like hugging the bottle, it made me feel absolutely ridiculous.
It didnt smell at all like other male perfumes i’ve felt before. It was sweeter, but not in a ‘girly’ way at all.

He Wood by DSquared: A very addictive fragrance. Begins with Violet Flower blooming sharply and powdery together with Violet leaf which lends an herbal air. Cedar and Vetiver rise quickly to join the two violets. These give the flowery, powdery Violets the woody muscle necessary to render it a male scent. Musk, Amber and Pine anchor them all into submission with macho virility and stamina boasting mega longevity and a nuclear bomb of sillage.
Some people complain about notes being synthetic. I don’t care how perfumers create their masterpieces as long as it smells great. Whether this one is using synthetics or naturals no one really knows except the creator. In the case of He Wood. All is very well. A different fragrance worthy of your attention. A wonderful step away from the over produced Fresh and Clean market, yet still keeping a clean nose in it’s wandering. For it’s diversity and uniqueness, it’s definitely worth the purchase. I like this very much.
Big High five for He Wood by Dsquared. You satisfied all of Highroller’s clicks. Now I need to try and find a sample of your Rocky Mountain Wood version. I read reviews claiming Rainy Forests aromas, that’s already got my attention.

I love this fragrance. Is not the best cologne i think so because it gives a simple scent.
I love the woody scents and this is too ethistic for me. I can sniff my arm for 2hours with this.
It reminds me fresh, cuted cedar wood being wet because of morning humitity in the middle of cedar forest full of violets.
    fresh wood-violets-water/wet
Girls dont like it so much. Five girls in different situations said me that is not bad but is not something special like 1million or Brit Rythm.

Going against some of the reviews here, but I really love this. For me it ticks all the boxes : violet, wood, vetiver, more violet – what’s not to like. If the violet is “synthetic”, it’s still a gorgeous note (like Grey Flannel this is what hooked me and stopped me in my tracks). And the combination of violet and wood is just great, perfect. A bit linear, but who cares, not every scent has to take you on a “journey”. For me this is a light, fresh scent, perfect for citrus-phobes like me: a great daytime, office scent. Cool, charming, light, attractive, like a spring morning walk in a wood. I’ve actually been complimented more on this scent than any other.

  26. :

    4 out of 5

Smells like synthetic violet, synthetic cedar, pepper and a pinch of vetiver in the background. Uninspired, sharp and drawing inspiration from Fahrenheit but with lots of ISO E, no development worth mentioning. Even the bottle seems kinda childish. Not as vile as Rocky Mountain Wood but still gross. As you can tell I’m no fan of violet, but this is just… disappointing.

  27. :

    3 out of 5

A bit too sweet and powdery if you expect something woody. It reminds me a bit of Trussardi My Land but without the citrus notes. It doesn’t feel as well-rounded as Trussardi’s, something’s missing and it ends up smelling like spices (more like cinammon than wood).

Prada – Luna Rossa. Lots of similarities. I’m not too fond of both.

This is such a nice fragrance for any formal occasions or dates. It smells classy and very well made. I love it on a strip but on my skin, it gives me a headache! It smells like walking among the woody furniture in a department store which is amazing. You know that nice woody smell of new furniture that just screams classy and new? With a pinch of freshness. Definitely not for anyone but if your skin pulls it off, it can be one and only fragrance you use.
On a projection side, it doesn’t last that long. 3 hours on my skin but on my dad and bro, it lasts 7+ hours. Skin scent by then but it can be felt. I’m totally different story and there are way better woody fragrances for me. If you are a strong manly man with a huge confidence that likes to wear fancy clothes.. get this!

I had a sample vial of this fragrance at hand and gave it a try. I had no experience of DSquared’s fragrances beforehand, but ad seen the WOOD line online several times and herad good about it amongst people.
So what do I get out of this fragrance?
It’s a woody and and green scent that soothes the mind. I dont know if it’s my skin, but I find i somehow similar to Armanis Code Ice in several ways. Although not completely the same, it’s body is pretty much the same on my skin. I like the fragrance, but it’s nothing outstanding in my opinion. I’f you have Prada luna rossa og Armani Code Ice, you’re not missing out on much. But I’f you don’t have any of those, you might find this one exciting.
The scent last 3-4 our on my skin, and has a decent silage that radiates withing an arms length. So all in all the silage is suitable for work and casual wear.
The scent in itself is not dedicated to worn at formal occasions, but is more of a casual and daily wear.

I can see why people have contradicting reviews over this perfume. I has to do with your skin and more than that, it has to do with the weather. This frag is highly dependent on the weather and dont ask me why, i dont know. The more the humidity in the air the better this frga shines. I have to agree that it’s basically violet, but it’s good. I rather enjoyed it…
Try testing it in different weather conditions, you’ll see what I mean. I do have to say that I enjoyed Rocky mountain wood better…

Weak. Not woody. More like green stem from a small plant being extract to make this perfume. Light perfume. Is it nice? yes, it wont give you headache but nothing special. Nothing groundbreaking, thousand others can smell like this. Pass.

A fresh, green and slightly minty opening greets you with only a small amount of wood; it reminds me of a household cleaning product but in the best possible way, or a higher-end men’s toiletry scent: “Mountain Rush”, or whatnot. As the sweetness and wetness recede, more wood comes to the fore, with a richly earthy, organic dirt undertone. I almost think it’s too wet to be Rocky Mountain Wood, maybe Cascade Wood or Sierra Wood? It’s a lot like the cheapo Stetson Sierra minus the rough edges…greenery (violet?) plus coniferous wood plus dirt. Still, like SS, I feel like He Wood isn’t filling any of those roles terribly well…all of those components are a little *too* organic (i.e. rotten) and synthetic, and as unique as it is overall, it makes me think separately about my better green scents and my better wood scents. Still, because I’m so much more used to drier, warmer forests, I’m probably not the best judge of this alpine Canadian brew; it’s definitely worth a try, as I’m sure its flankers are.

My husband wore it and so did I every chance I had. The only negative for me was that it was a bit oily and had the potential to stain your clothing.

It says Wood… and it is. Smells like a piece of wood soaked in water…. but really. For me a really interesting, altough strange concept. I can’t imagine any event to wear it properly.

  42. :

    4 out of 5

Wood couldn’t be more misleading. Be prepared to have people wondering if you’ve been rummaging through your wife’s soap basket. It smells like a fragrance soap from Crabtree and Evelyn. Nothing resembles masculinity or woods. Powder and soap is it. I’m a huge fan of woodsy fragrances (Mont Blanc, Banana Republic Black Walnut, Valentino UOMO, etc.), so I grabbed this off the shelves with excitement. Huge mistake! I’m not offended by a soft or neutral scent as I supplement C&K Encounter Fresh here and there, but this is ridiculous. For a positive it has strength that lasts.

  43. :

Looking at the bottle and reading its name, I thought this would be a dark woody fragrance. Boy, I was wrong! It’s floral, light, clean and soapy. That is what I get from it. I like it, but I don’t love it.

Dear daynierds we are a large and diverse community here. People wear fragrance for many different reasons. Some women wear fragrance for themselves and other women and some men wear fragrance for themselves and to appeal to other men. Historically different communities adopted cetain fragrances. The gay womens community of france adopted drakkar noir as their own in the late 1980’s and gay men did the same with kouros. Le male became a classic because of its popularity in gay clubs. My point is the culture of fragrance is much more interesting and diverse than you seem to be able to imagine. The democratising nature of fragrance means there are no rules only choices to be made and new permutations to discover! Happy smelling.

  47. :

I didn’t smell any wood – I just smelled a fresh note that is common in too many fragrances. This is uninteresting and boring. Also – it didn’t last very long on my arm. I am not impressed.

  48. :

    3 out of 5

I wrote before people´s opinions is one of those criteria to take into account when choosing a fragrance…another one certainly is what we think about it…
I believe all this debate began because innapropriate and generalizing comments like these:
“Seriously, people wear or like fragances because girls love it ???
There are a lot of people withou nothing of personality… I supose that they are kids going to the college. :D:D)”
as I said as well..generalizing always implies a bit of injustice and that comment was a bit too much for those like me…who take into account what people think and other´s opinions…, if not…what the f. are we doing in fragantica…?…at least I am here cause opinions and advices do care….
one question…will you buy again and use with ease something your wife, girlfriend or people around you hate…?, if so…maybe yes…maybe I may have serious a lack of character and self-confidence
have all a nice smelling or bad smelling day…

  49. :

    5 out of 5

    Dear jmansar
not sure if I understood what you said but ok…remember that generalizing always brings a bit of injustice…and yes…I declare myself guilty, I like to smell good and not like rubber, cement or semem….if you believe taking people´s opinion on sth is a sign of insecurity or lack of personality..then I believe we see 2 different worlds and even when I tend to respet people´s opinion…., I do believe I live in the right one, have a good smelling day man and keep smelling as you want even if nobody likes it…

  50. :

    3 out of 5

    dear @daynierds
It is clear that the interesting thing is smell good, but the smell we like ourselves. I’m just saying that we have to have a little personality.
I know that there are people who eat that women says, who dress according likes others and even think like the others say …

  51. :

    4 out of 5

    Dear jmansar
I believe is pretty logical MEN wear fragrances women like…I believe it could be instead pretty weird if we took into account the opinion of baboons, buttleflies or even WORSE…the opinion of other MEN to make our selection if we still believe we belong to the human race…decisions in life have multiple criteria nature, if the criteria women’s opinion has a smaller value for you in the selection, for others it’s simply bigger…why would I wear cartier declaration d’un soir, 24 gold, bulgary black or encre noir if my wife, friends and even strangers will dislike it…at the end?…do we want to smell good or bad?….for the last option save some money in fragrances and start skipping your daily bath…

  52. :

A nicely done violet fragrance seems a flanker of Fahrenheit Dior and very close to Absolute Fahrenheit but thankfully it shares only violet with Fahrenheit no gasoline and Rubber smell.
Although its not groundbreaking but worth a try due to its non aquatic freshness , the combination of vetiver, violet and musk make it a really nice option.

I received this from a friend who works in retail he gets to bring home a tester every now and then. He Wood Seems to get better smelling after about 30 minutes and progressively turns into a very pleasant violet scent with trace wood undertones. During next hour it then seems to balance out even more.
It wears extremely close and sometimes I prefer this. I use about 4 to 5 sprays and it lasts a good 6-8 hours on me. I have to admit when I first tried it straight out of the bottle I was not impressed at all. I’ve had other scents that transform like this one. So I was kind of expecting this.
I found a tester bottle from FragranceNet for a price reference, and feel this is a fair price for this fragrance ($30.00). I don’t feel it’s worth much more that, but I do enjoy it and so does my wife.

  57. :

Well, this is a too light and fresh fragance.
There is NOTHING of wood here. After a opening with a lot of alcohol, is basically a violet scent.
Smell good but is too BORING with a good lasting power (more than 7 hours) and a very poor projection.

    Excelent fragrance.
    Very classic and soft.
It starts off with a strong scent which makes you feel like you’re in the heart of the forest on a rainy day. It’s a wet mossy fresh scent, but the main smell is rain wet wood and trees.
Then after 15-30 minutes it breaks down and smells sweet but still very fresh. It makes me think of meadows or mossy fields, that’s when the smell of moss is at it’s most intensive.
After 1-2 hours the smell is still there but it is a lot softer and the freshness decreases but you can still feel it if you smell your shirt. The smell on the body depends much on the person, after a few hours I can still feel the smell on my body and depending on the temperature of the skin/weather the scent changes to fresh and soft to warm and thick.
Do not spray it on yourself too many times (more than 2-5) because it can start smelling very sweet, almost like syrup.
Other than that this fragrance is PERFECT for rainy/cold/humid or dry days.
It is also very usable at night as it is very elegant.
I get incredible numbers of comments from friends and some random people about the cologne. Mostly from ladies.
It is mainly a masculine smell, BUT I would understand some ladies having it.
I have had Rocky Mountain Wood. They are very similar but Rocky Mountain Wood is just a bit stronger and not as sweet.
You could picture it like this, He Wood is a rainy day in late Spring with scents of flowers but mostly the green trees, whereas Rocky Mountain Wood is late winter early spring rainy day in a forest at 6am.
    Hope this helps.

From a collection point of view I absolutely couldn’t wait to try this and I’ve been waiting a long time too!
I very nearly bought it blind but finally I found it to test and I’m kinda glad I did.
I love woody fragrances and the assortment of notes in this is right up my street. As I mentioned as a collector it’s a must have in terms of innovative bottle design and brand distinction.
When I initially sprayed it I got what can only be described as an awful, muggy horrible note which I identified as being the same smell I disliked from Azzaro Decibel although the scents are quite different this element is unbearable for me.
Thankfully, this smell is short lived and when it’s gone you’re left with an lovely woody scent, that is well balanced and smooth…just what I like.
I also tried the Rocky Mountain wood and I have to say I preferred that as it has more strength and spice but this one is pleasant and I will definitely add both to my collection at some point.

I bought this for my mum, who absolutely loves it (And on whom it lasts 12 hours if not longer).
I tried it one day when bored. The first spray is THE EXACT SAME as Crystal Creek Wood to me (which I used to have). After that, I can’t tell what’s going on but I REALLY don’t like it very much on me.
I put up with it on mum – and luckily it suits her – but I’m personally not too keen on this.

I bought it as a gift for my Husband, who loves Lalique perfumes. I wanted a bit of change in his perfume wardrobe and this Dsquared Wood smells gorgeous.
This perfume is a long-lasting green-woody fragrance ; quite of a masculine, strong scent. I personally can smell the vetiver, the fir and the cedar above all. I did not notice much the violet. It’s there, but to me, it’s definitely not the most noticeable note.
It’s a very pleasant one. It was a real success!

I got to smell it today and it’s not bad. But one way or the other also not so special for me. Maybe I expected too much of it after reading the reviews.

This is very pretty. It does not project, very soft and close to the skin. The violet and violet leaf dominate the opening and the are balanced by the vetyver in the mid. The cedar is also faint in the mid. Fir dominates the base. However, the fragance is soft, not loud, and close the skin after the openning. A beautifully balanced smooth fragrance throughout. Worth a trying if you are 30 and up. Younger people wouldn’t like this. Also this is a man’s fragrance but a woman could easily wear this.

My first impression was that someone was able to wring out a wet log into a bottle. Afterwards, I saw the advertising and realized that was likely the impression they meant to give. To me, it’s all wood. It’s like a cool sauna.
I was introduced to this scent when my wife remarked how much she loved it. Normally, she’s a tough sell on fragrance, so when she brightened at it’s scent, I knew it must be special.
The wood theme could make it masculine but I would like this scent on a woman, too. It’s long lasting and equally great as a fresh-all-day scent or for a night out.

There’s very little diference between this and Rocky Mountain version. There is no pepper. But I must say it smells even fresher and more natural woody. Also to me it seems less floral and drier. As in RM I can swear there is some minty note, very refreshing and soothing. Both are a nice transition from fresh citrus for me. Just a little bit soapy or powdery enough not to make the change very abrupt. Perhaps one doesn’t need to have them both, in that case I would go for RM which has a more complex formula. Still hoping Silver Wind will be a good choice for the evening

On me, this fragrance work so longative! (more than 8 hours stayed on me) with match of this and my body’s chemistry makes the new experience!!
8.5/10 plus 0.5 because of wood’s venier around the bottle ^^

Excellent fragrance! You may remember a little 212 Men Carolina Herrera.

One of my favorites. On me the wood is definitely the most potent note. The violet is behind the well balanced amber both of which are a distant 3rd to the other woodsy notes. I am a big fan of this one. I absolutely must try all the others in this line up. among my favorites.

As a woman, I love it. I’d recommend it for men.
Don’t wear too much, please, because it’s nicer to just sense the lightness of this one.
It is masculine (although could be unisex, I agree with other reviewers)
As I said: It IS a masculine scent, but not in that all-too-usual or typically choking, heavy, or eyewatering kind of way.
This is a modern, casually erudite scent of man.
I especially like the lingering smell of this on the skin after a few hours or the touch of it left in your clothes the next day.

Fresh herbaceous woody scent. Amazing 🙂 manly, masculine but cheerful and easygoing 🙂 bad side on longevity. 4 hours max. Sillage an arm distance for 2 hours.

I was told that this He Wood is being discontinued (or it’s already have), so I decided to grab it while it’s still available.
Just like most members said, it’s just all about violet, especially the leaf. It’s nicely sweet, very wearable even with that slight bitterly green nuance. The staying power is fair on my skin as well, which is the only downside of it, I think.
Overall, it reminds me of Balenciaga L’Essence or Dior Fahrenheit Aqua, but it’s more bitter and subtle, but at the same time it stays pleasant. B+

Easy to wear, for all occasions frag.it smells like common mens frag but it has that sweeter note that it makes it special.Dsquared is my fav brand and on clothing.Longetivity is mediocre about 4 hours MAX.
    Overall score 7/10

He Wood is very much a violet-lovers perfume. The violets are upfront and they hardly fade at all during the day as one is wearing this scent. The dry down of wood and musk is my favorite aspect. It makes the scent richer, even though it is light in the middle.
Don’t be mistaken by the title – it’s not about wood This is violet /ozone and freshness that goes on fairly lightly. Despite that, it’s a good idea to spray with caution because it packs an unexpected punch, and it lingers for many hours.
    Definitely a younger guy’s perfume
