Fragrance Review For Gala De Dia By Loewe
    Notes
Peony Coriander Carnation Black Locust Sandalwood Mandarin Orange Lilac Peach Jasmine Cedar Watermelon Rose
Gala de Dia (Day Time Gala)is an olfactory pleasure. It’s fruits and flowers that smell exactly like looking from the outside and into an open window where lilacs, roses and carnations sit on the ledge, warmed up by the sun in the summertime. It’s also a picnic basket of peaches and watermelon. The sweet scent is welcome in spring and summer when these type of scents perfume the air. It is an affordable luxury. I enjoy just putting my nose to the spray nozzle and when I spritz this on my wrists, I drink this perfume with my nose. A sensual delight.
Gala de Dia opens with a peach scent, so if that’s your thing for a fragrance top note, this is such a treat. A sweet sweet peach. There’s also a delectable citrus courtesy of mandarin orange. The watermelon scent comes in and of course it’s just as you would imagine a watermelon to smell, although it’s more on the Glade plug in aroma for your home kind of watermelon. It also smells like watermelon candy, almost like a watermelon scented Jolly Rancher. So I would say that the opening to this perfume is very fruity and like fruit candy. It is also a tad innocent and child-like, almost like this is a perfume for a younger than me girl, possibly even created specifically for girls ages 14 to 17. But I like it so what LOL
The floral scents that are swimming around in this chemical concoction include a heady peony, rose, carnation, lilac and jasmine. They have a bit of an abstract “all-together there” type of smell but I would say that the peony is the true dominant scent. It’s a pretty good peony very flowery and powdery. This fruits to flowers progression is very nice though.
For me the peach and watermelon softly transforming into peony and lilac is such a pleasurable experience on my nose. I only wish it had a longer life. Like fruits and flowers, they are not there too long before the scent fades away. It’s on me for about 2 hours maybe less and that’s because there is no top middle and base note formula. As such this is the type of perfume that is best used when layered with other fragrances that have good base notes to support the scents on here: peach, peony, lilac. I would suggest Violet Eyes by Elizabeth Taylor.
Finally the dry down at the very end of the fragrance’s performance is wood. It’s a hint of sandalwood and cedar wood. It smells like powder most of all, and that’s because the flowers are not tethered to the ground by any real base notes. The sandalwood and cedar might be there but it’s not like sandalwood and cedar that I’ve experienced as base notes. So this type of fragrance is good while it lasts and it’s very easy to wear. It’s great as an introduction to fruity florals, and good for wearing when you want to smell good but not make a statement.
Wear this while in your car running errands, picking up the kids, going to PTA meetings, office wear/for work. It’s light, subtle, soft, and a sweet perfume.

This has been one of my favourite perfumes ever. I had it when I had just entered College and I loved its fruity-fresh and floral smell. This is the fresh version of the now discontinued Gala, which had stronger floral notes.
It is a light fragrance, beautiful and romantic and you can get a lot of compliments when you wear it.
It is also a wonderful fragrance for an informal dinner or to wear in the office.
The bottle design is gorgeous too, inspired by one of the most famous of Velazquez’s paintings (“Las Meninas”), and keeps the design of its predecessor, Gala, which was also a gorgeous black and gold bottle.
    A great fragrance.
EDIT: This is now discontinued and it makes me so sad because I loved it! At least I still have the miniature so I can smell it now and then and remember when I had it…
