I love this, I think it is a very classy fragrance. It is heavy, powerful, it has authority. Not only that it is beautiful, but also interesting, definitely not a scent that stays unnoticed. On the other hand I can imagine that someone finds it disturbing. It smells artificial, but in a good sense, like Coco Chanel said, that a woman should not smell like a flower but like a woman. And in my opinion this is a woman, it is an adult scent. I am very happy that I found this, it is unique.

I sense that this one has been reformulated. I asked the last time I bought it but the sales person was not aware nor did she care. I asked her to find out and inform me by email, but that was a useless exercise! I love the original scent, I don’t think I’ll be purchasing again because it’s just no the same which is too bad because the price is the same.

As i am a big frangipani-lover, i was curious to try this one. I paid much for a small sample…but well.. Here is what i get from this scent:
there is a sharp synthetic note maybe water hyacinth and something that makes this scent unpleasant through all other notes. The ylang is more intensive than the frangipani, you just got the idea of a frangipani behind anywhere in the background maybe, but not the full white creamy frangipanis which i get from -Bissoumines Nuit de Iles- for example, which is my absolute favorite frangipani-scent so far. I am pretty dissapointed from this perfume by Chantecaille and not sure if worthy this high price. I understand, why some people might like it, its not bad, but for me as a highly sensetive person, there is just an unpleasend aura around the other notes, what makes it not wearable for me. And after a short time wearing it, the ylang is gone and there is just the sharp powdery note who stays on my wrist. If you are in search of a nature realistic white franginpani scent, then its probably not for you. You better try first.

I got a sample of this from a lovely associate at Nordstrom – I didn’t know that you can ask them for a sample of any fragrance! Super thrilled to get to try this.
This is great, what a tropical beach fragrance should be. I’m glad I actually get the stages for this one, the hyacinth and orange really stand out for me in the top and keep things light and fresh in the beginning. As it warms on my skin, the sweet ripe ylang ylang comes out, so vanillic and mouthwatering. It’s never too heavy, the hyacinth gives it an almost watery feeling, like ocean water. I don’t find this to be an overwhelmingly powerful fragrance like many tropical florals are – it’s light, refreshing, smiling – but it does last throughout the day and every now and then you will get a whiff of it. The florals, while sweet, are never too heady. Check it out if you want a different kind of vacation perfume.

Does anyone know if this was reformulated when the bottle changed 5 years ago.i heard people say its changed ,vintage is nice but not the same..the new one is better than the older batches.im about to buy a vintage bottle 5 years old and would appreciate any experience in this.maybe it was not stored properly and weakened or brewed like wine left in light and heat.many thanks

This perfume comes in a lovely solid patterned glass bottle and looks beautiful. I was fortunate enough to be able to test a friend’s fragrance, as I had admired it deeply on her. What an unpleasant surprise, when it hit my skin. On first spraying there is a sharpness to Frangipane, not a citrus scent but something similar, and it seems to be covering an underlying sweetness. It felt slightly disturbing to me, as though something nasty was hidden under a blanket and its smell disguised by air freshener, or like the smell of unwashed clothes covered up with cheap scent.
Over the next four hours this impression grew stronger and stronger, with no softening or changing. I was unable to pick up any other notes and was simply aware of the unpleasantness of this “hidden smell.” On thinking about it, I assume it was the jasmine of which I was aware. I have had trouble with the faecal note before and this time, after another hour, I was unable to cope with it any longer and scrubbed it off…as far as it would go.
I can testify to the longevity of the perfume. It persists after numerous washings and scrubbings, although it does tone down slightly. Projection is beyond arm’s length at the beginning and I could easily smell it on myself after five hours, and after scrubbing. On my friend it smells beautiful, soft and buttery, as so many people have described it here. I am very sorry that I do not get that effect, and very glad that I sprayed from her bottle instead of spending money on a tester or a bottle. That bottle is lovely…

Very light, uplifting. Sweet and buttery. I am
wearing this during the winter, but then later
on the day got warm & that is when the scent
comes out. In a word: Exquisite. …Peace…

I used up my fragrance this summer. I liked it much better using it with the body cream. It gave the spray much more staying power. Luckily I have several body creams saved up since I can’t find it for sale anymore. It really smells so much better than the spray. I might be willing to part with one of them. Has anyone else tried the body cream or know if is out of production?

As I said in my review below — don’t let the picture of this perfume fool you. BRAND NEW JUICE of this perfume IS AMBER COLOR not clear, not pale, not peachy. AMBER.

HipChick40, I got my bottle in 2010, when it first came out. And yes it’s the same as one in the picture to the right. A sales woman convinced me to buy it. It is still two thirds full. I don’t wear It much. I don’t know why. Just doesn’t sit with me most days. Just got a new bottle of the other fragrance Kalimanthan. It is very rich smelling like Frangipane. I hope I haven’t bitten off more than I can chew with this one too. That may the problem, Chantecaille’s fragrances are very rich. Maybe too rich for me. Oh well I am going to wear it anyway this winter, along with Frangipane.

@Edee, mine is Amber colored too and it is new, so I think it’s the photo here that isn’t correct. The picture to the right with the silver cap and amber juice is what I have, color wise. Just thought I’d mention that!
I’m adding that I found another perfume that is really quite similar to this with the exeption of price! Island Bath and Body, a Hawaiian company makes one called Plumeria and Vanilla. It is very nice, exact same plumeria/frangipani scent as Chantecaille. Where they do differ is that the Hawaiian version is less complex and rich. However, it makes up for it in longevity! Certainly worth the $25 I paid for it 🙂

Smells like Guerlain Ylang and Vanille???? Sign me up! I love plumeria so adding it to my favorite combo almost makes me want to cry, I want this soooooo badly! Does anyone out there have a bottle they don’t want? Please please please, make my day. Heck, make my year! And send me a message. You can have whatever it takes for a swap for this.
ETA: I got me my very own bottle of this priceless scent! Woohoo! Wow. How to explain it. First off, I do totally get the comparison to Guerlain AA Ylang & Vanille. I would also say it feels related to AA Lys Soleia, another fave of mine. But, I sprayed all three on different places on my arms and in this way, I see they share some but are also different.
This can only be described as AMAZING. It is warm, ylang and frangipani melt into a vanilla base. It isn’t synthetic to my nose at all. It fills me up with emotions though. It is such a deep love I have for this that it causes me to be on the verge of tears one minute and then smiling wide the next, just because I know I have it! The three notes are key to this fragrance. It isn’t powdery or candy sweet, but it might be considered a floral gourmand almost because it smells so rich and beautiful. I get great mileage both for sillage and longevity. It stays put on me for seven+ hours. I’d almost compare its overall vibe to Songes in that they are both rich and creamy and yellow. I’ve clearly found my zone lately and with the exception of some balsamic scents and the occasional white flower, neroli or sandalwood categories, my own personal heaven is in the ylang ylang flower and I now have several epic choices! If you resemble my taste at all and want a gorgeous ylang, frangipani and vanilla scent that pulls you in and makes you want more, this juice is for you! And I also love that it’s not common in any of my circles of friends, that’s always a bonus to me. I can only hope to find some self-control with my large bottle of this because it is very expensive. That is my one and only complaint.
Finally, thanks to all of you for these awesome reviews. I don’t know if I would’ve heard of this or thought to try without the eloquence you possess and share. Xoxo

To be fair I may have gotten an old sample of this.
All I get is ylang ylang with some vanilla. Very synthetic smelling on me to the point of headache. Fortunately it has not lasted longer than 10 minuets on me. When it dries down it is gone.
So the quest for real plumeria fragrance goes on….

What can I say? I am addicted to this perfume. I have tried to wean myself off of it because it is expensive, but nothing else will do. Oh well I better head back to the store and get some more before some one decides to make it extinct for some reason.

Creamy, lush, smooth, silky, fruity, yummy, I would say its playful-erotic in a sense that it makes you smell inviting)
Frangipani on vanilla pillows, nom nom nom
it might be linear but so round and addictive, that I cant see people would get bored smelling this on themselves or from others.

This one is very sweet, exotic, intoxicating, summer bouquet of flowers. Simply lovely. I usually cannot stand such sweet perfumes, but this one is amazing. It really takes me to an exotic place full of warm sand, blue sky and ocean and warm fresh air. Definitely worth to try even though it is quite expensive. The flacon is also beautiful.

I have a bottle of this that is about 10 years old. The color is amber. I see the new ones are clear. I have to to try those. This vintage bottle still smells heavenly. I didn’t appreciate the beauty of this frangrance when I got it almost 10 years ago, but I do now. Correction: It has been kept in a drawer for the last 10 years away from the sun. (I thought it was 16 years ago. My memory is lagging apparently. Time seems to have slowed down for me.) But anyway, I treasure this one, along with my other vintages.

Vie Cafe is absolutely correct in what she’s said at the start of her review…this really is Guerlain’s Ylang Vanille with a beautiful Frangipani thrown in.
Frangipane has become an instant favourite of mine. I feel so blessed to have picked up my 100ml bottle for next to nothing as I know how much this retails for – and I also know I will not be smelling this on anybody else around here and that suits me just fine 🙂
Ylang Ylang, Vanilla, Frangipani…that’s what you’re smelling for the first 20-30 minutes or so, and it’s just gorgeous. But then, a beautiful Incense & orange note waft their way in and compliment the Frangipani absolutely perfectly. Once it’s dried down, a soft musk kind of dusts over it all – very soft musk though, nothing screechy or loud about it.
I didn’t expect the projection of Frangipane to be as excellent as it is 🙂 Longevity is great too, 8 hours and I can still smell this adorable perfume quite easily (I will admit that I’m about to go and re-dose though as I am falling very hard and very fast for it).
Precious Perfume – completely precious. I honestly can’t imagine any floral loving Perfumistas NOT loving this 🙂 ♥

I’m in love with this lush gorgeous perfume. Frangipane is central, warmed out with beautiful, sensual vanilla. The almost powdery green of violet leaves complement the tropical bloom’s sweetness. In it’s dry down many hours later it becomes the most divine floral vanilla I have ever smelled. Nothing synthetic. It lasts all day. I spritz on at 8am and I’m covered with flowers, at 4pm the flowers remain, all floating in a bright pool of vanilla.
An intoxicating sense of being in a bright tropical garden, a garland of frangipane flowers circling your neck. It has been seven years since I first discovered this amazing perfume, and every time I get a new scent, the comparisons always bring Frangipane still the favourite. Love.

This is a very nice scent but VERY sweet. You know how honeysuckle can be sweet? It’s like that. The sweetness didn’t seem to be so much from the vanilla as much as the flower itself. It was like the sweetest flower I’d ever smelled, and not at all in a sugary way. It was like a natural, floral nectar. The perfume was quite strong and had decent sillage and good longevity. I felt that after an hour it was very nice, but after 2, 3 hours, it was too much for me and the sweetness gave me a headache. This scent kind of tricks you because it feels light and fresh at first, and you think it’s going to be a light, romantic floral with a bit of sweetness, but as time goes on it gets thicker and sweeter and stronger, and not necessarily in a good way. You can tell the scent is well done- well blended with fine frangipane ingredients, but for me, I think I’ll pass. I do like frangipane, but I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite flower, so maybe that contributed slightly to my feelings about the scent. I’m not sure it’s a safe blind buy unless you are the frangipane queen 😉

How did I not know about plumeria(frangipani)? Maybe because I live in the frozen north. Now all I want is frangipani! Try this crazy gorgeous floral if you get the chance.

Just sampled this and it’s not disappointing! Was looking for a plumeria scent and here it is! The scent drys down quite fast on my skin into a more vanillary scent though the plumeria is peeking through here and there. I wonder also what kind of vanilla they used here, it smells not synthetic at all, but like a true vanilla. The scent last quite long, just whished the opening notes would stay a bit longer. This is not a complex, surprising extravagant scent, but simple beauty, well blended quality ingredients. Worth to buy a bottle, if I knew where. Nowhere to be found in europe, but it’s made in France!?

This is all just lovely floral. Quality. Lasts all day on me unto the next morning. Lovely lovely lovely….very expensive smelling. After first spray, you have to “wait for it” “wait for it”. Once it settles it is absolutely gorgeous. You will feel like a Princess waiting for your Prince Charming riding his steed. If you’re lucky he might be Johnny Depp 🙂 If you love floral, this is for you. Try it if you ever get the chance.

Ahhh…after testing a few “scrubbers” lately, I finally came to Chantecaille’s Frangipane, and what a breath of fresh air! It’s a soft yet stunning scent. It takes me to Hawaii, not with loud and obnoxious white florals, but with the exotic scent of plumeria at sunset, carried by the ocean breeze.
Vanilla and orange were masterful choices to compliment the plumeria. I never would have guessed they could enhance the flower so much, but they add just the right touch of freshness and sweetness. They do not detract from the plumeria in any way, yet I smell them very clearly. The overall effect is that of freshly picked flowers, still a bit green.
I am not big on florals, but I must own this. The perfume is soft on my skin, but it lasts FOREVER. I wore it for 20 hours, through a night of sleep. I couldn’t believe the longevity for such a delicate scent. It’s absolutely worth the money.

This fragrance has been one of my wardrobe staples for 8 years. On my honeymoon I was lucky enough to smell the frangipani flower in bloom. It may have been a little softer than chantecaille’s offering but I was delighted that it was pretty true to form. It’s warm, sugary, enveloping and sweetly sexy. It’s also quite distinctive – nothing else I have smelled quite matches this fragrance. It may be a little too sweet for some. I get almond, vanilla and a little coconut from this scent – all of which are fine by me! I like the repackaging and although it is a little expensive, the scent has excellent longevity and sillage. I wear it now when I want to envoke the mystery of the Indian Ocean and the promise of exciting times ahead.

I bought this fragrance completely blind several years ago — LOVE!!
FYI: the juice is amber colored and pictures of the bottle and perfume don’t show that. Afraid it was bad, I called the House of Chantecaille who told me the actual color is dark amber in color. I was also worried that it was going to be a heavy “old sweet” smelling perfume after reviewing the various famous people who wear it. Oh I was wrong!
It is a gorgeous floral! Beautiful tropical floral heaven. The plumeria is deliciously balanced with vanilla. I get tons of compliments on it when I wear it.

  31. :

Utterly divine is how I would describe this scent. Frangipane is soft and tender like the frangipani flowers. This perfume is the only one I have found that delivers the true smell of these delicate flowers with which I am very familiar, having lived in a tropical climate for many years.
The lovely vanilla and amber notes warm up the fragrance and the white flowers add just the right balance so that it is not overwhelmingly frangipani. Love, love this and am going to buy a bottle since you do have to re-appply. Only downside to this fragrance is that it doesn’t last long on my skin.
To sum up, this scent is very floral, with plenty of amber, frangipani and vanilla and is a lovely white floral- perfect for summer and with its warmth can be worn year round, too.

This beautiful fragrance is my all time favorite! Worth every penny (and the body lotion is lovely, as well. However, my bottle has lasted forever because my fragrance-sensitive husband goes into an asthmatic fit every time he catches a whiff….sad,sad,sad. So I choose the moments I wear this very carefully and savor every minute. I always get compliments when I wear this, as well. Sigh.

I’ve worn it since it launched in the uk- was it 2002?, and initially I loved it. I used to get a top of neroli over jasmine, vanilla and marzipan. Lovely, and a touch gourmand. however, after 2 pregnancies, my chemistry has changed so much I only get vanilla, hardly any flower overtones, and I don’t like it as much.I am currently looking for a replacement.

Fell in love with this the first time I tried it. Unlike anything else I’ve ever used. Pleasantly sweet, with dry floral & spice undertones. Most people who comment do so favorably and mention that it smells expensive. Reminds me of Summers on the beach. Because it is costly, not too many people will be wearing this scent.

  37. :

Frangipane by Chantecaille is a very fresh floral bouquet that opens on my skin with a lot of violet leaves (watery green cucumber-like freshness). Frangipani itself appears only like an echo, rounded by very clean and pure floral notes. It’s not intense, not edible, nothing coconut-like, I mean very exotic, about it.

To msjennany……are you still interested in buying a bottle from someone? I have a full bottle (only used a few times and decided I didn’t like it). I’ll have to find it, I think I packed it away. It’s a pretty big bottle, too!

A pretty scent…Obviously it has frangipani which is such a fragrant and happy scent. But it also has a slight tinge of smokey incense that keeps it from being a straight-up floral.
It starts off in a very sharp way-oddly citrusy but with a good deal of the frangipani and a touch of jasmine. But as it settles in you can begin to smell the ylang-ylang ever so slightly mixed with an incense-like vanilla. For all of its bluster at first spray, it doesn’t last on the skin for very long and settles to only a soft powder after a short amount of time. But if you like a more floral side to your floral-orientals, this one may be right for you.
