I prefer Cold Weather scents vs. Warm Weather scents anyday. Balsamic should be my middle name. With that being said, this fragrance made me do the craziest thing I have ever done. Someone sent me a small vial a few years back and it was love at first sniff. This is the epitome of Spring in a bottle. Antway, after seeing the Ebay prices I sent every member here that have it listed as a have a message. Crazy right? I know but it was a chance I had to take. Of course nobody wanted to sell their bottle but someone did sell me a 10 ml decant! 10 ml should last me forever and I am forever grateful to that member. TBH, the notes don’t look great but something about this is spectacular to me. If I could pinpoint it I would but I can’t.

Forest Rain does smell like a rainy forest, but not in the way most reviewers seem to expect. There isn’t a hint of evergreen in this, despite the color of the bottle and “northwestern rain forest” look of the whole presentation. Seattle is many thousands of miles away from this one.
The smell is more evocative of a tropical rain forest, full of beautiful flowers, blooming grass, and giant trees with enormous leaves, dripping with water. There isn’t much, if any, wood in this blend. This forest is dominated by leaves and thick foliage. The muguet note is particularly noticeable, and I suspect it’s responsible for the “watery” green aspect of this scent.
As it dries down, a clear relationship with Kiehl’s Musk emerges, but completely sanitized, a little sweeter and softer, and with that watery green-ness remaining in the background. This comfortable and simple watery green musk accord hums along for quite awhile, and never breaks down into anything obnoxious. Sillage is average and longevity is above average.
I do enjoy it. Would I buy it? Maybe, if it’s inexpensive. It appears that is no longer the case, as it’s discontinued.

This was an expensive purchase for me, based on the rarity of the item. The bottle I have dates to 2008, the year of the fragrance launch.
Fresh, clean and green, it seems aptly named because there is a certain “rain fresh” scent to it. The musk is not overpowering at all. For a clean and green scent, it has a bit of thickness to it, if that makes any sense (as opposed to something like Mugler Cologne, which is lighter and more airy). One reviewer said that all she got from it was almond but I don’t smell that at all.
In truth, despite the price I paid, this is the type of scent I wouldn’t be surprised to find in a nice, boutique style shower gel.
Four sprays seems to be too much. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still on the lighter side of the fragrance wheel (as opposed to heavy oud) but not as light as you might expect from a typical clean and green fragrance.
Did I overpay for a rare and vintage item? Probably so.
Do I like the fragrance? Yes.
Bottom line: Fresh, clean and green fragrance with a bit of “thickness” that’s somewhat generic.

Just noticed this listed on Ebay with low price of £5 😉

This smells like Balenciaga L`Essence but it’s less earthy and green, more woody and musky version of L’Essence. I think it’s more balanced and better than Balenciaga.

eshwae: try a line of perfume oils called ‘AIRS’. You can still find them online. I just compared Forest Rain to the one I have called ‘Ocean’ and it is quite similar. There’s probably something even closer if you get the chance to try them. I believe there is one called ‘Rain’ so maybe that might be one. Good luck!

Can anyone tell me if there is a fragrance similar to this? I am desperate 🙁

Someone is selling a 1.7 oz bottle on Ebay for $499.
    Crazy.

For some reason, I was convinced that this would be a much bluer or greener scent, but I’m finding it much redder than I expected, leaning toward magenta. The opening is brilliant: a lush, semi-tropical unisex fruit basket, with the type of florals you’d find in a Gendarme (or Richard James, or At The Beach 1966). I almost am at the point of being able to pick out individual fruits, and maybe that’s why I like it; I don’t like most fruit fragrances but I also can usually never pick out their notes because all the ones I’ve tried are frankly synthetic, metallic garbage. What troubles me is that the fruit starts to shift more toward resembling cherry, a note that I truly despise. At first, the scent passes through a phase where it reminds me of cherry popsicles, which doesn’t bother me. It gets a little worse, but isn’t too bad and only leaves me mildly annoyed because it’s not as candy-like as a lot of other brands become by this stage. It’s actually a lot closer to Richard James than I remembered from my first few trials, and this earns it a lot of my respect, but it’s still not quite what I hoped for, nor is it an amazing and serendipitous find. Just a unisex floral cherry fragrance.

I received this gem in a swap and I love it. I get a cinnamon note and that’s not one of the notes mentioned. If you find this, don’t be afraid to buy it! Very unique.

Forest Rain is a lovely substitute for one of my favorites from the 70s, Love’s Fresh Rain Scent. It has refreshing green top notes, a white musk heart, and it dries down into a lovely muguet skin scent.
Potency and staying power are not what I had hoped, unfortunately-
A great choice for someone who doesn’t like perfumey scents, and just wants to smell nice and clean-

A beautiful fragrance. Very unique, its musk is complimentary to the floral sweetness of the lily-of-the-valley, lasting me through the day when I apply. Only bad thing about this fragrance is the fact that Kiehl’s discontinued the spray and I cannot find the lotion (my introduction to the scent). I heard at a Kiehl’s shop that they are bringing on a new fragrance that I might enjoy as an alternate. For those who love Forest Rain, I was able to buy 2 bottles from Nordstrom online during the holidays.
Added 9/8/14: While I ration my remaining Forest Rain, I have found something that is similar such that I have the same response to it as I did when I first smelled Forest Rain. Although the notes are completely different, I found Bobbi Brown’s Bobbi’s Party is similar. Like others, I sense a violet leaf in Forest Rain, which you will find in Bobbi’s Party. I tried blending Bobbi Brown’s Almost Bare with her Party, since Bare has that delicate note of lily of the valley. So smashing similar to Forest Rain.

Definitely a very unique fragrance. Forest Rain’s central note is a fizzy, soapy violet leaf note. When I say “fizzy”, I mean “fizzy” like soda. I believe it’s the patchouli that cuts the violet like that to give it that effect. Those two notes are surrounded by a green soapiness that defines the scent. It’s a little musky, too. The longevity is spectacular – I easily get 10 hours or more out of Forest Rain.
Forest Rain is one of the most unique fragrances I’ve smelled, and it’s definitely worth trying. I really don’t wear it anymore, though. It doesn’t satisfy me as much as it used to. When it comes to Kiehl’s, I prefer their Musk or the Pour Homme Essence Oil. Still, give Forest Rain a shot – it’s a really unique scent that needs to be smelled to be understood.

This has been discontinued, which is the worst news for me as this is my signature fragrance. It’s a unisex fragrance that genuinely works on both men and women, and is unlike anything ive ever worn before, which is why its my signature fragrance. I am devastated Kiehl’s have discontinued this!

I would love to smell this on a man with the appropriate body chemistry. This just smells too masculine on me. There is a weird, pungent note in it that is almost reminiscent of urine, but not quite–I don’t know if that’s the musk or the vetiver. The “urine” calmed down within a couple of hours, but didn’t completely disappear.
It didn’t smell like Love’s Rain Scent to me. Maybe Love’s Rain Scent Pour Homme.

Spices, musk and vanilla are prominent in this composition. I think the name doesn’t suit the perfume. I would think of forest rain as something understated, refreshing with lots of green notes. However, this smells to me mostly of vanilla and cinnamon. This fragrance also has some orris notes even though they are not listed. I think this is a very sexy scent IMO. It is quiet sophisticated and refined. I also detect some similarities to Chanel No. 5. This shape bottle doesn’t do justice to this fragrance as it is complex and alluring. It’s worth a try!

If any of you are looking for something like Love’s Fresh Rain Scent, don’t give up hope until you’ve checked out this refreshing, lovely scent! The next best thing to taking a walk in the woods after a spring rain-

Tried this out several times in the flagship store in NYC. So breathtaking and familiar at once! Fresh, clean, and green with pretty-pretty soft florals. Plants, herbs, and flowers after a morning rain fall. Lovely. Look forward to purchasing it for my spring fragrance wardrobe.

Forest Rain? Green? Floral? Woodsy? I don’t get it. The only thing this smells like on me is 100% pure almond. I’ve been wearing this for 2 hours and it never developed into anything else. It smells like Dior Hypnotic Poison.

Unfortunately, this one doesn’t work on me. I love vetiver, so it was a shock to find a vetiver scent that I can’t wear. It’s possible that it’s too heavy on the musk – but I always feel that it starts out green and kind of… rots on the skin. It doesn’t stay fresh on me at all. Too bad.

It was the name that urged me to buy a sample of Forest Rain. It sounded so lush and green that I couldn’t possibly resist the temptation. Forest Rain turned out to be all that I expected and more.
The moment I applied Forest Rain to my wrist, I exclaimed with deep satisfication, “yum!” To my nose it’s a combination of musky greeness, a dew-like sweetness and an elaborate bouquet of big, white lillies.
I feel very feminine and pretty while wearing this, however it has an interesting warmth once settled, that makes me feel very in touch with the earth, somewhat like a hippy. It exudes this strange bohemian aura, and while I’m not very bohemian myself, it awakens the creativeness in me.
The scent tends to envelope you, it becomes you. I can’t imagine this fragrance offending anyone. From a distance Forest Rain smells clean and soapy. This fragrance actually reminds me of Spring.
The sillage and lasting strength are amazing. I was so enraptured by this fragrance that I added it to my wishlist in a matter of seconds, without even waiting for the development.
Although I recommend this fragrance for Spring and Summer, I’m currently wearing Forest Rain on a cold and rainy Winter’s day and it wears considerably well in such weather.

This is a less known Kiehl’s scent, other than their Musk, that deserves some attention. It’s very original, weird somehow, but usually Kiehl’s scents behave in different ways on different skin chemistries. On my skin it smells mostly of Lily-of-the-Valley. Actually a lot of Lily-of-the-valley, fresh floral and intoxicating. I don’t get the citruses, instead I smell strong aquatic green notes and the drydown is almost all woody vetiver.
It’s very good to smell when you need an escape to the woods fragrance! Open air when you are trapped in an office.
It stays quite sharp and green all the time. I can’t say if it’s feminine or masculin or maybe both, a perfect unisex. More complex than Kiehl’s Original Musk. It’s not really my kind of fragrance but I think it’s worthy a try, just to smell the way it smells on you. You could be surprised.

I have never smelled the original Kiehl’s Musk, and I’m not a huge fan of pure musk scents. However, Kiehl’s Forest Rain’s musk is nicely tempered by the fruit and flowers. I don’t see cucumber listed as a note, but the overall effect of those fruits and flowers is a lush, green cucumber accord. Or perhaps dewy green foliage? “Forest Rain” is a very appropriate title for this scent.
I’m not sensing the vetiver in here. Usually, vetiver has a dry, grassy aroma and this fragrance is the exact opposite: very moist and steamy. Perhaps its effect is tampering down the sweetness of the Lily of the Valley.
The musk note is detectible right away, but it’s not unpleasant. It smells familiar and is an olfactory reminder of how many clean scents and soaps, body washes, etc. contain musk as an ingredient. The musk becomes more prominent as the scent dries down, as one would expect. It’s a very animalic, “sweaty” kind of musk. Some will find it appealing, and some won’t.
    The staying power is excellent.
Forest Rain is definitely unisex, and my husband and I have both tried it. The fragrance smells unique on each of us. The florals are not especially pronounced, and men should feel comfortable wearing it. Overall, it’s a pleasant fragrance that fans of musky scents like J. Lo’s perfumes, Jovan Musk or those “head shop” musk oils will probably enjoy.
