Cool and sweet lily-of-the-valley, slightly green and spicy, smooth and dewy. Like little white flowers growing close to the ground in thick, lush grass and dark wet earth. The sillage and longevity on me are light; this is more of a pick-me-up than a perfume.

This opens with a bright green, dew touched wisteria and lilac. I remember a citrus punch in the opening that fades quickly, but time has removed that from the opening in this bottle. There is, however, still a heavy dose of lily-of-the-valley behind the purple flowers. The lily-of-the-valley always stands out in my mind with it’s bright and sweet song. It has that white floral “thing” about it, without the harsh indolic sharpness. Forest Lily is my go-to scent for lily-of-the-valley. Behind the bright green and dewy florals there is a nice woody, almost bitter oak note. You have to search for it in the opening, but it is there. The opening leaves the impression of a cool morning, just before the sun begins to rise. It’s nippy and damp, and the air is sweet.
After a time the scent has warmed up, the dew has evaporated, and the sun has fully come out. It’s still a cool and chilly morning but a bit of the edge has been removed from it. The lily-of-the-valley becomes the dominant floral. The wisteria and lilac are still there, just quietly so, lazily dozing in the background. There is a slight, sweet zing from what I think is Ylang-ylang. Normally, I feel that Ylang-ylang warms up a composition but that’s not the case here. It’s still has that cool morning bite, even with the zing of the ylang-ylang jumping around energetically. This ylang-ylang zing, however, gives a nice edge to the lily-of-the-valley, even if it doesn’t remove the chill from it. The oak base can now be easily found. It’s dry, rich and has a bit of a mustiness to it, that makes me think of the bark dust I’d inhale while climbing trees in my youth. I think it may be orris root that supplies this nice mustiness. I find the use of oak here a really interesting choice. It gives this scent a uniqueness in the woody/floral category of scents. There is also a hint of pepperiness (for lack of a better word) floating around in the heart. Perhaps from the wisteria. The oak and this peppery tinge give the scent some depth and keep it interesting.
The dry down is soft and woody. The florals are now blended pleasantly behind the oak, which has been joined by a sweeter wood (most likely Sandalwood). After about four hours Forest lily becomes a skin scent and it’s completely gone after seven hours.
I find this scent to be very unique. I’ve never really smelled anything like it. There are some things that remind me of it but, unfortunately, I have not found anything that I could think of as a good replacement. This is a shame because Forest Lily has been discontinued for some time now.
This scent will always have special place in my heart. It was my signature scent when my husband and I were courting back when we were seventeen. I can’t wear it and not remember the blush of young love and memories of the marriage that blossomed from it. It’s a very special scent from a very special time.

Where has this fragrance been? Considering how much I love lily of the valley I am amazed that I missed this one. Adair58’s comment about this being lov”s “deeper, darker cousin” is right on the mark, describes this perfectly! I have been wearing it all day, and it has amazing longevity and sillage – one spray brought my husband from the other side of the house, saying something smells really good.

If lily of the valley has a deeper, darker cousin, Forest Lily is it. Like walking on a misty morning near the edge of a wood and finding a lily plant shadowed by wet green leaves. It is cool, not sweet, and quite green at the opening. It settles back into the cool lily, a touch of lilac or hyacinth, then trails gently into the woods where it came from.
It is close to the skin on me, and lasts about 5 hours. I really like this one.

I adore this fragrance, and have since it first came out. I have been through at least 30 bottles of it, and I use the shower gel and talc as well. Summers where I live are extremely hot and extremely humid, and Forest Lily keeps me feeling like I’m walking on air. SO refreshing, green and light. It lasts exceedingly well and has powerful sillage, so one spray will do you for the entire day. It’s reminiscent of lily of the valley, but with fresh grass notes, and I smell freshly cut apples, too. Heavenly for hot weather, a bright, sweet, juicy sweet green fragrance.

I wore this in 1998 when it was a new scent. I absolutely LOVED it! It smells like lilac and lily of the valley and lots of green! So uplifting and fresh! I just ordered a bottle on EBAY…anxiously awaiting it’s arrival! So excited!
It arrived today! I just LOVE it! It still smells great even though it’s a vintage. Lilac, lily of the valley, fresh cut grass (even though it’s not listed in notes) and ylang-ylang is what I detect. Fresh, green, lovely!

I recall this scent from about 15 years ago, a fragrance I wanted to love but at that time found too astringent and bitter. I was given a decanted vial to try, thanks to Fragrantican generosity: talk about a trip down memory lane!
This is still an astringent, bitter, green fragrance; my more mature skin isn’t any happier with it now than in the past. It is an exceedingly cool lily of the valley—along the lines of Silences, but maybe even more green and bitter; it also lacks the galbanum of Silences, so it does not get powdery or smooth out as it ages. If you are familiar with the LOTV in Avon’s Odyssey, do not expect a similar LOTV. Where Odyssey is sweet, gentle, slightly powdery white musk, with other light floral notes to balance the LOTV out, Forest Lily has no balancing elements (to my nose). This is LOTV, newly sprung from the wet cold earth, crushed lightly under careless feet, with mineralic dew drops clinging to the bruised white bells and emerald leaves.
The notes listed include ylang-ylang, wisteria and lilac; they may be there, but they are staying cool and aloof, not adding any warmth nor much depth. There is also sandalwood listed, but it has yet to appear on my skin at all—normally, sandalwood is a great way to make a white floral settle smoothly into my skin, but I don’t think there is enough here to do the trick.
If you are a LOTV fan and love a pure white floral with some heavy green notes, a cold, almost high-pitched bitterness and a single-minded intensity—this is the scent for you. If you prefer something warmer, this may not be your cup of tea. Projection is moderate, longevity unproven as yet (still going strong after 3 hours).

I remember when this fragrance was first launched,it was by designer Diane Von Furstenberg for AVON (I remember reading that Diane wanted to capture the scent of walking through her own personal garden where she lived) and it was just lovely…Very fresh..almost Wet smelling, like a garden right after the rain with a lot of green leafy notes..a Nice fragrance for Spring..Casual yet Sophisticated!

I recall this from 1998! Just saw it added and recognized the image; I couldn’t recall the name. My mother in law was an Avon lady and I got a bottle from her. This was a fragrance I really wanted to love; I wore it for several months during a memorable phase in my life. I recall an astringent herbal note that does not match the notes listed. I also recall a lovely dry down–probably sandalwood–that took too long to arrive.
