Description

As the new successor to fragrance Encre Noire by Lalique presented in 2006, the market welcomes ENCRE NOIRE A L’Extreme, an intense masculine edition available since October 2015. With its design, the new edition reminds us of the famous “Encrier” designed by Rene Lalique in 1913, which served for design of the first fragrance Encre Noir and its successors Encre Noire Pour Elle in 2009 and Encre Noire Sport in 2013. The latest edition after moving towards a lighter interpretation and ‘sporty’ version of the original, the accent is now placed on intensive woodsy blend of cypress and vetiver.

Composition of the new fragrance ENCRE NOIRE A L’EXTREME is announced as very masculine, intensive, powerful. “Bergamot, cypress, incense, vetiver (Java & Haiti), sandalwood, patchouli ENCRE NOIRE À L’EXTRÊME redefines masculine sensuality with a powerful blend of cypress and vetiver. A new woody intensity, for a unique, unforgettable trail…”

The fragrance is available as 50 and 100ml Eau de Parfum.
The nose behind this fragrance is Nathalie Lorson.

Lalique believed to make a stronger version of EN. The result? It is weaker. He believed to create the same effect as the original, this is drier but less pungent. EN extreme is resinous where EN is musky. Encre noire extreme is smoky where Encre Noire is green. The simplicity and strength of the original are the characteristics that made it enter history (and in my heart). This is a vain attempt to imitate the inimitable. For me it is not too dark, but much less dark than the first, which I do not like at all. There is a reason if I love darkness and certainly not find it in resins or incense or bergamot.
    Nothing compared to the original.

Never thought Encre Noire A L’Extreme will be much admired by my nose and by people who caught the whiffs of it. From the interesting initial spray, to the rich, sensual and classy heart and to the crowd pleasing Encre Noir lite, dry down, Encre Noir A L’extreme is a keeper for the colder months.
It was part of my 5 bottles haul that I recently purchased along with Prada L’Homme Intense, Bvlgari Man in Black Essence, Pride of Armaf and back up bottle of Club de Nuit Intense Man by Armaf. It was chosen last just to complete a free shipping package.
It turned out to be my number 2, best with this haul.
The performance is massive even with just three sprays. Projection and longevity are top notch.
The composition has been crafted carefully and the result is a mix of art, magic and nose-approved.
The classic Encre Noir was a hit and miss on my skin.
I got compliments and I got hate from wearing it.
I decided to let it go and no regrets.
But A L’extreme is different. It will stay with me for years and I can highly recommend it for fall and winter.
    Smell – 9.5/10
    Performance – 10/10

Love the regular stuff, this is more astringent. Less of a crowd-pleaser but far more out there for those who love something different. Both have very good performance. Obviously, they are obtainable for bargain prices. Lorson cannot put a foot wrong as far as I am concerned.

Beautiful scent. I could wear this everyday this fall/ winter. Haven’t got any compliments yet, but I’m confident I will though.

If you have one of Lalique encre noir or a l extreme you don’t need the other one! But if you’re crazy about this DNA like me , then go for both …. absolutely niche quality in bottle. First impression makes me feel iam sniffing Amouage DNA

    I love it.
It is a more rounded version of EN, due to a (strong) incense opening (that disappears completely after 1-2 hours), but a more mellow cypress compared to the original EN. Less aggressive towards other people, wearable in fall/winter evening.
That “dark/strong” effect is created by the cypress intensity, not the vetiver. The cypress intensity makes it less or more wearable. Indeed ENS and ENE are vetiver focused, while EN is more cypress focused IMO.
EN= strong cypress opening, then moderate cypress + vetiver dry down. (strong cypress thus not very wearable)
ENS= strong citrus opening, then moderate vetiver + weak cypress dry down.(weak cypress + citrus thus a very wearable daytime version)
ENE= strong incense opening, same drydown as original EN. (moderate cypress + incense, thus a more wearable “spa” version for the evening)
Read my reviews of EN and ENS for more details, and I also suggest the amazing post “The Quest For THE Vetiver Cologne” on basenotes.net forums for real vetiver fans.

I own the original EN,bought sport version(not impressed at all…too similar),and now I’m “afraid” to purchase this one,if it’s too similar(again)to original EN

I smell a smoother version of Encre Noire here, and I definitely favor this version.

Have you ever actually smelled cypress??? This is the main theme on encre noire extreme.. Cypress leaf mixed With soil.. After as the sandalwood kicks in it mellows and give a sweetish vibe to the scent With out Being actually sweet…. If i make any sense.. I love this fragrance but i understand its not for everyne… No androgynous vibe here.. No crowd pleasing sweetness… Rugged, untamed not giving a fuck about what others think type of scent.

smells way way too close to al haramain black afgano if not identical.beautiful non the less.smells just like match sticks, the big wood kind with the white tips.not the sulfur smelling tips but the wood part especially after you’ve chewed the match stick.i used to chew on match sticks when i was younger trying to look like stallone in cobra.

Nathalie Lorson take a bow. Loved the original Encre Noire, but this is perhaps a bit more wearable. For the price it’s a steal..smells rich and sophisticated with the original Encre Noire DNA which has been slighted rounded and smoothed out somehow.
    Beautiful scent.

Loving the sport version but there’s something in this one that utterly repulses me, it smells like sniffing a test tube in the chemistry lab you shouldn’t be sniffing, can’t believe there are so few dislikes, am I really that different LOL.

  14. :

This for me is up there with Dior Homme parfum….maybe not as rounded and smooth but for sure in my top 5 of all time. And for the price it’s unreal value, last forever and a smell I will hopefully never get bored of. Well done Lalique

every winter I look for scents with vetiver and incense. myrrh and resins are a bonus. I am head over heels for this one, and there’s a lot of apt reviews on here saying that they could charge 4x as much and it would still be a bargain next to the lutens, the chanels, and the tom fords.
LEGENDARY. and to the people complaining about longevity and sillage, really? maybe you’re getting used to it. and to the gentleman talking about black pepper and bbq’d steaks–iso e super has a smell for me that is cedar, black pepper, and expensive dry cleaning solvents.
Lalique has some amazing scents, but in particular the Encre Noire series is soo cheap online now, and soo worth the money. even if this were not drop dead gorgeous–which it is–it would be 15/10 for value for money. love love love love….

    Fourth time’s a charm?
After loving the original, I acquired a sample of A L’Extreme. I tried it 3 different times, weeks apart, and every time, I scrunched my nose at this scent. A year later, and suddenly this smells good to me now. All the vetiver and cypress of the original, with added smoke and patchouli. It’s almost like a darker Gucci Guilty Absolute but without the leather.
It projects better than the original, but that’s not saying much, as neither projects very far. (But at its price, you can afford to go heavy on the sprays)
So, that’s the good. The bad? This is still a bit acrid to my nose, and in spite of the notes, it reminds me of a seasoned steak as it hits the grill. I think the reason I somewhat like this now, is because I’ve come to love salty, peppery scents. Still, I wish this didn’t play out like a seasoned steak on my skin.
I’m sticking with the original, but I can see what everyone else loves about A L’Extreme.

Tom Ford could sell this for $315 a bottle and people would buy it, it’s that good. The fact that I just got this for $30 boggles the mind.

  19. :

    3 out of 5

I love the scent but both longevity and sillage suck. I sprayed generously 10 times and after half hour I couldn’t smell it anymore. The original Encre Noir, from 2006 lasts much longer.

  20. :

    5 out of 5

The ISO E molecule super provokes that feeling of low chairiness and duration in the fragrances that possess it (olfactory fatigue). This happens with several perfumes Lalique or Comme des Garçons … but the others will notice their fragrance.

  21. :

    4 out of 5

this fragrance smells amazing, I love the opening so smokey Vetiver. The Sandalwood is very strong too, the only problem is performance. it is really poor on both longevity and sillage, honestly, I was disappointed, I’m a generous sprayer and I spray like 7 sprays sometimes more of this fragrance trying to improve performance but no it doesn’t. but smells great. probably won’t buy again after I finish the bottle I have.

Encre Noire A L’Extreme is a worthy successor of the original. It starts of quite similar to the original EN with loads of fresh, green cypress, however in a few minutes that settles down a bit and the more dry, woody, and resinous facets start to come out. The incense is very present with a good dose of boozy benzoin. This reminds me of some pine or chestnuts being cooked over a fire in the middle of a forest. It lasts about 4-5 hours with moderate to quickly soft projection. If you love the original Encre Noire, this is definitely worth checking out. It is like a more mature, relaxed version of the original. Suited better for the evening, preferably in the autumn.

it´s not for springtime daily wearing, definitely not ….
yes for winter but otherwise hardly wearable scent
(even if i´m huge fan of niché quality and darker, earthier scents)

  24. :

This is such a nice scent from Lalique. I have all three Encre Noire’s for men, and obviously this one is really bold. I can’t get over the quality, we are talking niche quality here, for the low price. You can’t go wrong. I love the vetiver and incense in this. A classy scent all around!

  25. :

    5 out of 5

If I have to choose between this and the original, I definitely will go with this one; this flanker is so bold, I can say this is indeed a darker version of the original.
The ingredients here are better mixed and so pure, the main note I get is Vetiver with incense behind, giving me the sense of a niche quality.
Not an office friendly, neither an option to go with for a warm season, perfect outdoors scent, and for cold weather.
I can’t say it’s a safe blind buy (it needs an acquired taste), it is better suited for men in their 30s and up! “IMHO”.
Sillage here is Definitly stronger than the original, longevity Stays for decades!
Such a quality fragrance, but at the same time not the easiest to go for, it’s so heavy, deep and concentrated, and not everybody’s cup of tea, try it if you consider buying it!

  26. :

    4 out of 5

A blind buy for me but I was very surprised
    Dense …
    Dark …
    Daring …
    Different …
A must if you do not want to smell like the “mainstream”.
    Simply a masterpiece
    10/10

“Mrs. Nathalie lorson” 🙂 lot’s of love here

  28. :

A smooth, dense and slightly sweet fragrance. This fragrance is distinct and yet not too daring like the original.
This one is much easier wear in different occasions and much more appealing to other people. This could be compared to DG The One, but much more manly and unique these days.
Strong and well established men need to try this out,and I could see this as a discounted desirable fragrance with a rising price in the future.
A great alternative to la nuit de lomme, DG the one or other seductive fragrances that are more metro.
    A masterpiece.

Love at first sniff. Amazing ! Very wearable resinous vetiver scent with a hint of freshness.

  30. :

    4 out of 5

It starts with a loud smoke and strong elemi, it continues with chypress and dirty patchulish-vetivery and finish with cristal clear clean vetiver and dry resins.
A L’Extreme is a wrong name, it should name A L’eau Dense because it is a dense parfume not extreme. I would have liked to be extreme in any way, incense, vetiver or whatever madam Nathalie Lorson wanted.
This is a parfume for a sinner, strong opening as a sin, exquisite, balanced and sublte finish.
    silage: 7
    longevity: 9

That wonderful moment arrived with this scent wherein the resemblance with another top vetiver cologne became more obvious. The vetiver fragrance in question is LV vetiver and in ways the Lalique EN Extreme is like the younger more brooding brother of Lorenzo Villerosi’s vetiver. Best way to see it is taking the original LV vetiver add just a little drop of Arso from Profumum into the mix and voila, there you have it a sure hit for fans for woody vetiver scents. The drydown in particular is seriously addictive in that leave me alone I don’t care if you see me sniff my wrist all day long kind of way.
Really happy to have come across this fragrance.
9/10 just wish the longevity was better.

  32. :

All three EN’s are unique and each is great. I especially love the musk and incense of this. Like the Sport version this seems right for most occasions and suits a lot of outfits.
And this to me, smells too good for the price. I’m so grateful that Lalique keep its pricing this keen. Thank you, Lalique!

im so surprised about this..the orig EN is my favorite..i tried it today and given the word extreme..it is not as boozy as the EN..this is silent more subtle scent of the EN..i love both though..i sprayed them side to side, on my left palm was the EN and this on the right…after one 1hr..EN is still projecting whereas ENX has subsided and became a skin scent..cypress woody was more prominent in EN after an hour and the ENX was projecting more on the incense..i just hope ENX should have been projecting intensely but not..

  34. :

    4 out of 5

This starts off very boozy and resinous with a hint of M7 vibe.
Strong and deep formal opening with dominant incense and yet it still feels light.
Longevity and projection are really disappointing.
The fresher brother EN Sport has far superior longevity which is strange.
Nevertheless, the fragrance is way more wearable compared to the original EN. It also feels dark, niche and has some similarities to Bentley for men intense “same direction”. Moreover, you cannot go wrong with the price, super cheap at discounted websites.

  35. :

    Wow
    Boozy floral(iris) encre noir.
Bit waxy and insence at the start
Slowly dries down to encre noir bitter vetiver
Less green version of the original.
    Performance- average 7 hours
    Projection average
    Strict cooler weather
    Formal
I own all three ( original, extreme and sport )
Original 10/10 – perfect, my signature. Just love the inkiness.
Sport- aquatic less inky less everything . 7/10
    Extreme- sweeter more resinous. 8/10
Had higher expectations but then realised that original is perfect it’s hard to top that.
At least it tries it’s own thing. Worthy flanker

For me, ENCRE NOIRE À L’EXTRÊME was love at first smell. I had the original ENCRE NOIRE and I didn’t expect that this one were going to be SO different.
ENCRE NOIRE À L’EXTRÊME is Vetiver, Incense and Patchouli, mostly.
It’s VERY masculine, dark, intense, and a touch of sweet in the dry-down.
In my skin, lasts a lot (12hours) and the sillage is heavy-enormous.
Dior Homme Intense and other supposed masculine fragrances, are feminine and “mainstream” compared to this.
Although it’s very different to all the perfumes I’ve tried so far, I get some echoes from M7 in it.
The original Encre Noir compared to this is Cypress, it’s greener, it’s walking in a pinewood after a storm, it’s more evocative, less manly and less wearable.
Both are great for different occasions and moods. If I had to choose I’d keep only ENCRE NOIRE À L’EXTRÊME without a doubt.

  37. :

    5 out of 5

Disappointing on my skin. I decided to buy this one to complete the EN trio. My skin eats this one up in a flash. While the original is a super potent, long lasting, dirty, goodness, earthy vetiver, this (l’extreme) is the little lamb of them all. No projection nor longevity on me. Very faint and gone in less than two hours. It is still good and reminds a lot of the original in terms of smell, but it should had been named “baby johnson” encre noir instead.

  38. :

    5 out of 5

Encre Noire A L`Extreme is all about Vetiver and Incense, It is very dark, dry, manly, rich smell. Encre Noir and Encre Noire A L`Extreme have Amouage’s quality for few bucks.
While Encre Noire A L`Extreme is all about Vetiver & Incense, the original Encre Noir is all about Cashmere Wood, Cypress & Vetiver. I don’t find them alike but there are some similarities for sure.
Overall I own this, Encre Noir & the sport version as well and I’m more than happy with the smell and their performance too.

  39. :

    5 out of 5

I am using Lalique Encre Noire A L’Extreme for a few months now, between 3 and 15 degrees celcius climate and to be honest I find it weird that people find this similar to CdG Wonderwood. Yes maybe one or two notes, but it doesn’t become even a relative of Wonderwood. This is way too dark, dry and has completely a different track than Wonderwood. The lack of pepper I believe is the main difference. This one is bold, not slapping people’s face but bold and it’s earthy but not fresh to make you inhale over an over again. Wonderwood does that. Still, this is a very different take from Lalique and should be in every modern man’s collection IMO.
I got few compliments from ladies that this smells rich, as in expensive. Longevity is also good with 7 hours on my skin. I wouldn’t apply this one to clothes at all because this really needs a skin to workout, on clothes it’s just a plain simple dark burnt dry wood kind of smell that kills everything about it.
Compared to Encre Noire, I can’t find solid differences. The bergamot mentioned as a note which I don’t get at all! Also I can’t detect distinctive wood or balsamic notes added in this one. Will try side by side on both arms and update again. Right now I believe whoever claims here those glorious differences from Encre Noire, if we make a blind test I’m sure majority would fail to distinct.
If layered with another – my take would be Azzaro Visit or similar nutmeg-wood scents, works amazing with both Encres.
UPDATE: I have done another arm to arm test for the past 2 hours and seriously guys this is not much different than Encre Noire. I would really high five if one can differentiate it from Encre Noire on a blind test. The only difference I could pick up in A L’Extreme is the more prominent incense maybe, but it is more like iris even though it wasn’t listed in the notes. There’s definetely a note that resembles the main vibe you get in Dior Homme line. I think it’s the Orris note.

brilliant, the only one from designer that has niché quality (together with few guerlain fragrances) … it´s nice calm tobbaco pipe vetiver when it settles down

    @Alessandro Bonfirraro
Same incense than in M7 for me.

  42. :

    3 out of 5

@Alessandro Bonfirraro I wouldn’t call it a church incense in the way that CDG’s Avignon or Amouage’s Jubilation XXV are. The focus is much more on the earthy vetiver, cypress and sandalwood. The resins and insense simply help to set a solemn tone.

  43. :

    5 out of 5

A question to the owners, the incense here is like church incense?

  44. :

If I may make an automotive comparison, Encre Noire was the prototype – the barest essence of the concept, bizarre enough to make people stop in their tracks and say “What the…?!?” but not a car designed for comfort (or even for passengers) – a bold statement first, designed with drivability last in mind – no sound system, no heating or air, just Lalique saying “we’re about to rock your world”
EN A L’Extreme is the production model. It is the same bold statement, but designed from the inside out for the driver and to please everyone who goes along for a ride with him. The edges are smoothed out, it has all the bells and whistles, and will please both the driver and his passengers immensely.
EN remains one of my favorites, but I’ll really only ever wear it for me, and not all that often. THIS one takes the same statement into a more complex direction, adding nuance and depth that are daringly excluded from the elemental simplicity of the original.
In my EN review I called it a classic winter-time “museum” scent, but this will take its place in that role. I will keep EN, but it will likely only be applied when I am settling in with a book, or go for a stroll through a barren leafless park to indulge my ennui… or to enjoy a good cigar and a splash of whiskey, it’s good for that too – it doesn’t always have to be dreary, it’s just so good at that.
This one has all the depth needed to be a more versatile fall/winter scent. This also goes well to work or to anything formal (whereas EN was really only ever suited for a woolen sweater and deep sighs lamenting what is or could have been).
It sounds backwards, but anyone curious about the Encre Noire experience should actually start with this one, and if you love it but think you might also enjoy trying it with all of the refinement stripped away THEN you take the plunge into the original.

  45. :

This is original Encre Noire wearing a heavy winter coat of sharp-peppery Cypress and a heavier Vetiver. Absolutely love this. Goes on a little harsh but not unpleasant then after 1-2 hours mellows into a seriously well crafted winter masterpiece. Even my wife finds this quite pleasant having previously been repelled by original EN for being too ‘inky’. :o)
    Quintessentially manly.
    Distinctly, distinguished.
    Consummately long lasting.
Do buy (but leave some for me). ;o)

  46. :

Nothing Extrême here, but a very nice scent, more rounded than the original. Like a better version of Wonderwood. Even a better version of M7. Niche quality. Good longevity, moderate projection.

  47. :

    3 out of 5

It may not be to everyone’s liking, but this is an amazingly unique scent and, in my opinion, better than the original.
For those sombre overcast days, no other perfume will be a better company than this one. It will not cheer you up, but it will put you in the right frame of mind to embrace them.
If Vlad The Impaler had signature scent, this would be it.

It’s like original Encre Noire lost its’ sharp edges enough to make love with Wonderwood by CDG. In one word – AWESOME.

This is a very dark and dry fragrance and in the end, i found it a bit too dark for me so ended up selling it. I still like the scent character and think it is a high quality composition but it doesn’t fit my style and the vibe of fragrances i like to wear so feel it deserved a new home where it will be worn and enjoyed.

  51. :

    4 out of 5

A superb flanker. You get the original as a base, but then it’s softened, slightly sweetened. Much more gentle, the rough edges have been rounded off. It actually strikes me as a smidge feminine, so I say it’s an easier wear for the ladies. A great one to grab and enjoy for autumn and winter. If you’re a man that has the original and have been disappointed in the lack of appreciation from the opposite sex, I think this will make you (and them) quite happy.
I don’t find it more intense or extreme – but as I said, slightly sweetened, a touch softened, and actually better suited for the cold than the original (which I shall wear regardless, because I’m a rebel). A safe purchase if you love the original.

Today i recieved my bottle of this beauty. As i ripped off the celophane i smelled strong boozy maybe whiskey in the package as i took off the bottle, then i looked at the notes but there is no whiskey listed. I thought okay may be it’s because of the material of the package but whithin the first spray i smell whiskey+pencil shavings just these two for 3-4 minutes, then after about 10 minutes whiskey is gone, pencil shavings 60% there maybe. And there is vetiver and cypress all the way. And after about 20 minutes incense kicked in, i mean it really kicked in and became the major factor in the game along with the vetiver.. SWEET
It’s really complex fragrance, among the frangrances i came across so far which is not too many but still mesmerize me.
2 Hours later sandalwood and benzoin came in the game in the drydown, and gave a smooth touch to it which i love.. SWEET
5 Hours later i smelled tiny bit of patchouli came from nowhere, pencil shavings still there 30%, really interesting.
I am not an expert nose but these notes i have smelled.
Comparation with Wonderwood CDG: I love Wonderwood as well, there are nuances, Wonderwood is more sweet/herbal to my nose than EN Extreme. And EN Extreme is definitely more dry than Wonderwood with better longevity. Both love.
Conclusion: Very good longevity and good sillage.
    Mood changer as EN? Absolutely!
Compliment getter as not EN? Don’t care!
    Confidence booster? Hell yeah!!
I love the original EN i wear it from time to time as i mentioned on EN page When it is foggy. But this i think i wear more often than the original EN. It’s more casual, more sophisticated, more masculine, more just more. SWEET

After reviewing the ENS and the original EN, it’s time to finish the trilogy with the heaviest from the lineup. A L’Extreme is as daring as they get; very dark and intense. Definitely don’t blind buy. Before you buy this you should ask yourself two questions:
    1. Am I willing to wear something that could potentially bother people?
It’s hardly easy or approachable. This is a beast mode fragrance that’s smokey and incense-heavy, so it can and probably will put off at least one person out of every group of ten. Easy on the trigger.
    2. Am I, in fact, not a human being, but rather a Buddhist temple?
If you are a temple and you’ve been hunting for a fragrance that screams “Om mani padme hum,” this is for you.
For those of you who like extremely powerful smoke and incense but are on the fence, this no-nonsense, dense, intense incense scent makes immense sense for you gents to dispense your dollars and cents.
For the rest of us, we might consider giving it a pass. To me, this shows the value of restraint. Fitting to its name, this is a concept taken to an extreme. It really is a bottle of smoke and incense. I’m sure the density of this fragrance works for some, but I find it becomes overbearing after several minutes. I don’t know about you, but I have no desire to smell like a pyromaniacal monk all day.
You may have gleaned by now that this juice isn’t for everyone. But if it is to your liking, you’re still left with the classic EN conundrum. When the f*** can I wear this? Temple? A yoga retreat? Whole Foods?
If you know what you’re signing up for, I suppose this delivers. Well constructed, and the incense does have a soothing quality to it. Plenty of vetiver, ISO E, and all the other EN staples. But for me, A L’Extreme is the weakest link in a very interesting series by Lalique. But still, points for being daring and experimental.
    Namaste

Winter is coming to Moscow …
For the first time in few months I used ENL’E this morning … and fell in Love again.
    Magnificent, captivating, dark.
    Nobleness in the bottle.

To my surprise, this is not stronger than Encre Noire as it says “Extreme”. I’ve had Encre Noire in the past which smelled more woody and stronger with about 2 days longevity. This one is a very light version of the original one.
Less woody and bergamot is not smelled either.
It reminds me one of Bijan series but not sure which one.

Very good opening and heart – dark, lush yet kinda dry, little sweet from elemi and benzoin and with nice incense that lingers above as some kind of silent spirit.
But in the drydown unfortunately its cheap price shows in full blast of synthethic sour plastic woods (some weird mix of ambroxan and iso e super?) Once you experience it, next time you smell it from the beginning…
I would like it much better with less longevity, less syntethic amplifiers, so I could reapply every few hours and enjoy nice opening again and again. For this price it woudnt hurt my wallet.

Oh man I hit a homerun with this blind buy! Very masculine woody fragrance with a shot of incense from heaven. Not too heavy & the projection is surprisingly not as overbearing as I thought it would be. To me, a very well balanced fragrance… A must have for any mans collection considering the low cost.

@Advatra I don’t think this is that hard to over apply. Quite the contrary, I’ll never put more than 3-4 sprays. I think less is more with Encre Noire A L’Extreme.

This is basically essence of Iso E Super and pure wood sap for the first few hours. This is as much Iso E Super, if not more so than Terre d`Hermes. This is hard to over-apply, The dominating IES just can’t be made to be heavy or project much on my skin unlike the original EN. The opening has a richness like candy corn or tootsie roll and super-dry sauna wood. When the vetiver payload hits after a few hours: it is sour and heavy and lasts about five. While the vetiver in the original Encre Noir hits very hard right away, here the Iso E super wears off and the vetiver ramps up at about 3 hours. This vetiver is harsh and bitter like grapefruit rind, not just sour like in the original EN.
Yes it smells like pungent woods after a few hours and heavy application. I had a co-worker sniffing the air passing back and forth looking for the source “did a cat get in here? It smells just like cat.” she was referring to the pungent woodiness like cedar or pine cat litter… hopefully unused.

Man, why you’ll need niche when you can find fragrances like this one for less than 50 Euros?
The average consumer don’t really know about this brand, and the smell… Well you can’t find anything similar at your local Sephora, that’s for sure. Smells beautiful but defiantly it’s an acquired taste kind of fragrance. Not a safe blind buy.
Incredible performances on my skin, much stronger than the first EN or EN Sport.
I’ll wear a lot of this one and Bentley Absolute this fall and winter.

My favorite of the Encre Noire series, followed by Sport. I find the original interesting, but this is the king. The first time I wore it it, the incense was overwhelming. It was like being in Catholic school again during Lent with the incense wafting to me in the front row, but as I’ve grown accustomed to it, it’s become the centerpiece of my small collection. It had me questioning what exactly I had done in purchasing it. It’s super masculine, woody, mysterious, qu
