Discontinued, but legendary! Thanks to a celestial Fragrantica member, I was able to experience Ellipse . . . finally! It has been on my unicorn list since I found out about it! What a glorious perfume! Zinging with a galbanum accord, there’s a undeniable green feeling that has an elven feel to it! Mischievious, worldly and with a gorgeous woody oakmoss frame. Real oakmoss in its most potent incarnation! Strident galbanum gleaming in a dynamic setting; warm, hearty woods and spice creating a foundation for them to shine. This is a statement perfume for the gamine!
Only discontinued because of in-house business conflicts, it has remained in the hearts of aficionados for almost half a century. Ellipse started out as a department store perfume, and is now on all the Top 10 lists as one of the most expensive perfumes in the world thanks to lovers of this scent vying for the remaining supply. Now that I’ve worn it, I know why . . . it has a spitfire appeal that once smelled, you long for again. In the genre of Estee Lauder Estee and Niki de St. Phalle, which also feature oakmoss in a starring role, Ellipse is much easier to wear and more engaging. The legend is deserved!

Very dry, sharp green with bergamot, galbanum, coriander, and thuja, it also manages to be quite dusty a la Sonia Rykiel’s ‘Septieme Sens.” In its essence, Ellipse is a leather chypre with a backbone of bitter wood and dirty engine oil from the “leather” ingredient isobutyl quinoline – something it has in common with classic leather perfumes like Azuree, Cabochard, Bandit, etc.
It reminds me most of Septieme Sens but with a lot more sharp green bitterness to it.
(I am reviewing the vintage pure parfum. People should avoid the Eau de Parfum, I’ve read that it’s faked. Original Ellipse in white box came out in parfum & EDT only.)

After passing through 2 phases ,which means being similar to 2 other perfumes , this darling ends up to be a twin to vintage Ô de Lancome.

Wow I still remember the deodorant spray in white bottle with silver top, it was hot item in 80s in USSR. Woody floral chypre.

Finally a micro mini perfume bottle of Ellipse arrived and I am in perfume heaven.A rich, dry ,woody chypre in all its glorious beauty. It developes minute by minute on the skin, beautiful in all its phases.I am a die hard chypre fan and this is one of the most beautiful that I have smelled. The only other perfume I can compare it with is Sinan by Jean Marc Sinan(the vintage one with the cream colored crescent moon stopper)

Gone, but not forgotten vintage. Very green for me, very chypre, and a little dry to the touch. It was nice knowing the scent.

Lovely perfumes, my mom used to wear it back in 1978. I just remember that it was dry warm scent. I really would like to buy one for myself. Any idea where can i get?
