Description

The third Eau Parfumee in the long line of Bvlgari “tea fragrances” is also a unisex. The fragrance is gentler and more sensual. Two red-tea extracts were used to create this fragrance: Roiboos, a South African variety, which gives off its warm and gentle woody character, while Yunnan, a Chinese one, offers its intense and voloptous aroma to the composition.
Eau Parfumee au The Rouge opens with the notes of pink pepper, orange and bergamot followed by red tea and fig, while the trail is sensual and warm; harmonizing the notes of walnut and musk. The nose behind this perfume is Olivier Polge. It was created in 2006.

Such a beautiful unisex perfume – so unique! Spicy but in a sweet-ish way.
BY THE WAY – I’ve noticed so many boxes with mini bottles (with lotions) on sale on EBay. Sad to see people selling this for money – these are free for everyone flying Business or First class on Emirates – not sure it’s very nice to try and sell it when it came for free. Just give it to a friend or something!!

I wish I could be a little more tactful but honestly, I hate this so much. I bought this blindly on a whim because LOVE Thé Blanc and really like the Bleu but this one is terrible. I tried, I gave it time and tried smelling it again but I literally had to scrub it off me because it started nauseating me. I know it’s a “tea” scent but it is SO peppery and the tea is SO overpowering. It smells like a mix between cleaning supplies and peppery tea that has been left sitting out for about a month.

I wish to be a personification of this perfume….but the longevity makes me cry.

Wearing this on a slightly damper late Summer’s day. With a matching moisturiser.
Leather isn’t listed in the notes, but I smell it here – new top quality leather bag. Then mint, a touch of fig and the red teas of China and South Africa I know well and drink occasionally.
This is a gentle unisex fragrance, which smells to me of an expensive leather boutique, mixed with a fresh whiff of figs and mint and some citrus. The dry down is still fresh with some musky powder.
A sophisticated and muted fragrance, which stays close to the skin. I really like it, for its individuality and class, as well as the leathery freshness.

This blind buy paid off. I love it. So light fresh and airy. It’s tea. Really pretty tea. It’s perfect for summer. Great suggestion in the forum on this one. Thanks so much! It’s really beautiful.

I have the old, clear bottle, so I don’t know much about the new reformulation. It’s a lovely, relaxing scent. Sillage and projection is not strong, but au the rouge isn’t a perfume that’s meant to be smelled by almost everyone in the room–I’d suggest going for one of those majestic sillage beasts from the 80s for that, or perhaps Flowerbomb.
I enjoy spraying this on my wrists and catching faint whiffs of this throughout the day. It’s sophisticated in a subdued way, and I hate that I clumsily dropped my bottle and broke the spray/nozzle to it. I had been using this sparingly, knowing that it had been reformulated, but I am content with sniffing it from the bottle if I cannot fix it!
It’s amazing how I rarely smell this on others. I remember catching a whiff of this only once, on a woman hastily climbing up the stairs of the subway station in Lower Manhattan, and when she moved her head, I was pleasantly surprised to recognize it. It was during the winter, but the light tea and fig notes were a welcome fresh crispness in the cold dryness. I mostly wear this in the Spring and Summer, and it’s also lovely to spray on then.
I have occasionally worn this on the nape of my neck and behind my ears, and once in a while, a friend will comment on how good I smell if I flip my hair. If you are happy with the kind of scent that you cannot show off, but can only keep close and treasure, this is definitely a fantastic choice.

The first blast of this is definitely tea, and this tea note persists through the dry-down, but it’s not real tea it’s Rooibos tea made from an entirely different plant. People who know I drink a lot of tea have given me Rooibos as a present, which is very sweet of them, but of course, it’s not actual tea. Rooibos is supposed to be healthful, and it tastes that way, too. I have drunk Yorkshire tea for too many years to change my habits, but I digress.
Eau Parfumee Au The Rouge keeps that herbal rooibos scent, almost spearminty to my nose, and soon adds a great fig note. This is one of the best figs I have smelled, but I have not smelled that many. Fig is one of those notes that you can’t do cheap or it’s disgusting. This is not a cheap fig early 2000’s body spray, this is a great fig, probably from twinning it with the walnut to bring out its richness.
What I like about this scent:
    1. It does not smell the same all the time. The opening is herbal tea, heart is fig, sometimes I get the pink pepper (another favorite!) and sometimes I don’t. It’s chameleonic, which makes it interesting.
    2. Sillage is faint, so I can enjoy this without having to listen to people react. Don’t you hate it when you wear a nice fragrance and people say, “What’s that smell?” It’s like you were playing Saint-Saens The Swan on the cello and some goober said, “What’s that noise?” It’s art, people. Not everyone wants to smell like Johnson’s Baby Powder.
    3. The fig note is superior. I can tell it’s fig, but it seems more than fig, something better than fig. It develops a beautiful nutty sweetness that is hard to describe. Fascinating and earthy. Salt-free Womanity.
The only downside is the format, a light cologne. But I get around that by spraying a lot more than I normally would. Longevity is not that great at full strength, yet it does linger in a subtle way. Great for any season.
This is a very grounding scent, extremely calming.
Thank goodness I can’t pick up any of the funky nastiness of actual Yunnan/Pu-Erh tea (which I drink sometimes because it’s good for me). I tried to get interested in high-end fancy teas over the years, but it ain’t happening.

This smells like my grandmothers kitchen when she makes her famous winter tea. And I mean in a good way. It is warm yet very fresh, spicy but airy. Every time I smell I get black tea and hibiscus tea. The opening is sharp because of the pepper. After a while it starts to get sweeter I start to smell figs. Drydown is my favorite part. It is sweet, creamy and nutty. Unfortunately it doesn’t last long. Sillage is also weak. I need to reapply it very often. However I think it is a unique uplifting smell, suits all seasons and all occasions.

After spraying: Pu-Ehr tea (strong, metallic, fishy, like a “baboon run”),
After 15min. : oversweetened tea with raspberry syrup + hyacinth undertone (no Rooibos). Ten years ago I labeled this perfume “cheap”. But after sniffing it on other people I think there is something airy, melancholic to it that make it quite interesting.

WOW – I don’t like florals or rose scented smells in particular BUT MAN THIS WON ME OVER!
IT’S not noted as a rose or floral and I get the scents that are in the note pyramid on a deep smell (though the walnut maybe a bit abstract). But at a whiff it smells to me on the dry down like soft rose or rhubarb (I think soft rose is spot on) slightly musky interspersed with chamomile tea and fresh soft wood (more like soft fresh wood chip). Initial spray to me is of citrus and diluted rose. The black tea with milk and figs as a description didn’t occur to me until reading here but that also works…
If I was offered to purchase this on the description of Roiboos Tea as Bulgari describe it or on the pyramid alone I’d have said no thanks. I’m always curious though and it would’ve tempted me to at least try and Bulgari is one of my fave safe brands.
As it happens I was gifted this in a First Class kit on Emirates ( I had a free upgrade – Awesome – Bonus – must’ve been my luckiest day of the year thingy!!). I tried it as a “what the heck” despite the unmanly packaging. WOW – what a CURIOUS UNIQUE SCENT I thought. How fresh and nice for a change from an aquatic. After a few hours I’d realised that not only did I like it but I wanted it!!!
As soon as I was off the plane in Europe and heading to my connection I tried to purchase a full bottle. It hadn’t occurred to me that this was actually a unisex scent. My brain just assumed that it was a mens kit therefore it was an odd perfume for men. Everywhere I went for two weeks people in the gents section did not know of a Bvlgari Rouge or whatever in a red bottle that smelled like faint roses and tea – and they looked weirdly at me…
After googling it as an after thought and seeing it listed as a womens scent and or unisex on the return leg at Heathrow I realised I had to go the the ladies section and of course they had it. The girl said “Must be for the wife as it wasn’t a common request!”, I said “its actually for me”… she just looked me up and down and was like OK whatever… I walked away shaking my head but with a smile on my face…
    * Great longevity 4-8 hours
    * Low to moderate silage
    * Unisex but erring on the ladies side
    * Fresh and not overpowering
    Some times serendipity strikes…

If you’re like me, and you like burying your nose in a cup of tea, this is perfect for you. On my skin, this is all peppery black tea in a beautiful way. It lasts a decent amount of time before it starts fading (usually towards bedtime) and stays wonderful the entire time.

There is more citrus in this than I expected. I also get a lovely creamy fig and tea leaf smell. Overall it is fresh yet sweet, creamy and warm but in a clean way. It is an eau de cologne and the sillage and longevity match that description for me. I think it is the perfect summer or office fragrance for those of us who always need a little creaminess and woodiness in a perfume.

I love, love, love this scent!
I own this fragrance in a set with the Bleu and the Vert ones and this is my favorite. Wise decision to bring back this one because it really is a timeless beauty.
It is kind of fresh but not in a citrusy or herbal way, it is kind of dry but fruity and aromatic at the same time, it has some kind of sweetness, maybe the walnut and resin, that makes it warm and delicious, it is feminine but perfectly wearable for men as well.
Unfortunately this is not very long lasting. The sillage is moderate and, depending on how much or how often you reapply it, people around you will notice it.
To me the Vert is uplifting and the Bleu is balancing, this energising. I feel happy and full of positive energy when I wear it.
It reminds me a lot of Hermes style, especially of Un Jardin en la Mediterranee because of the beautiful fig note, but Jardin has also a powerful cypress and cedar that make it a bit stronger and maybe a bit less feminine. Ideally I would wear this and my husband the Jardin for the perfect fig binge…

A gorgeous unisex classic by now. I was late into the purchase of the Eau Parfumee Au The line with the tea theme (red white blue green) so this is a joy to discover. I have enjoyed the matching soaps conditioners and shampoos now I get to enjoy the perfumes. For me this is by far the spiciest and most memorable of the Teas. This is a distinctive smoky musky Oriental red tea drink that reminds me of a tea I drank years ago in the 60s in Istanbul Turkey and in Morocco. This has a Middle Eastern Muslim air. Smells of a café in Casablanca. I picture men smoking hookahs in fez hats al fresco in a café by an outdoor marketplace.
This opens with a big pepper note that is quite potent. There’s additional spices of which the walnut or perhaps nutmeg is detectable. However it is a note of tobacco that stands out to me. As soon as it begins to wear on you, the tobacco leaf scent emerges, quite masculine and unisex. This is initially strong but softens from the tobacco and pepper into a tea note that is quite realistic. Smells like you’re drinking a hot red tea. This has some sweetness. There’s fig and it does come through at some point. Smells of an exotic and sweet fig swimming in a dark tea. The smokiness is still present and it’s more spice and smoke than herbs and green notes. I don’t get a lot of green notes the way I do with the others. It’s a warm wintery red tea.
This is a good fragrance to wear for this month and through the rest of the winter. It’s warm and spicy and like I’ve already said this can be worn by both men and women though I would recommend them to more experienced perfumistas. On a young guy or girl this would be shocking. It’s linear and not long lasting but the notes are not typically found in most young people’s fragrances. This is mature and probably best worn by the 30 40 50 and up crowd. I peg it as a winter fragrance and matches up with leather coats or any kind of material coat, gloves and wool caps. This is very distinctive and quite well blended and the bottle is very nice.

Whoever said the opening was rhubarb was dead on, as was whoever said it smells like hibiscus tea. However, most tea scents have a soapiness to them that I don’t care for and this is no exception.
For a tea scent this is very good and I could see it becoming a solid like, but it isn’t likely to become a love.

My parents used to take us to a hotel in Switzerland that had this fragrance as their soaps and shampoos amenities. I somehow was obsessed with the scent of the soap and would always take the bottles home with me. Then I crossed the fragrance version of it and of course I had to purchase it.
The scent is absolutely beautiful, very crisp, very clean. Its a luxurious soap scent that stays on your skin for a very long time. Its an incredibly easy fragrance to wear and spritz on, whenever and wherever you may go. Its a very classy scent and also reminds me of the crisp early morning forest walk in the colder months. It is not at all citrussy, which is how I love my clean fragrances. It is definitely a unisex perfume. Overall, absolutely stunning.

I bought this perfume a few days ago. It turns out that they are starting to pull it out of the stores, so I went online to ebay.
I really like this scent. Like someone mentioned it evokes the image of a woman in a business suit, however, while that might be true, I would say that it remains truly feminine. I love the green tea undercurrent, but I truly like the layers of the other notes. The bergamot provides a delightful balance with the other scents. While this is similar to the other Bulgari scents in this line, I really think it holds its own. So far, it looks like this is going to be one of my favorites. Like I say, they seem to be pulling this out of the stores, so get it while you can. If not, online is a safe way to go

The composition almost kinda smells like rhubarb to me. When I’m wearing it, most people think it is a fruity fragrance. It’s definitely tart, but the depth and bitter aspects are there.

In LOVE with this amazing perfume. Have to say it is my top favorite perfume of all time. A beautiful unisex smell.
Unfortunately, it is NOT LONG LASTING just about 2 or 3 hours, LOW SILLAGE.
BUT i would love to wear it the rest of my life, eat and sleep with it.

I love this scent. The spice-hinted green tea is fresh, calming and yet not boring. However, I have major issue with the longevity, as it never seems to last beyond 2 hours (usually mush less).

I love the smell of rooibos tea in a tin—tobacco-like, sweet, and above all, dry. For some reason, I expected these facets to be played with in The Rouge, so I kept it on my want list for a while. After a test, it was eliminated in a hurry. I found it amusingly evocative but utterly unwearable.
Instead of the nobility and mystique of the dry leaves, what it evoked for me was the most lifelike wet, tepid teabag. Not necessarily a rooibos teabag, either—more like a rose hip/hibiscus combo spiked with a hefty amount of lemon. The unglamorous kind of vitamin-C-laden tea one makes when one is suffering from a cold.
It nearly gave me the kind of nausea one gets from having real (green or black) tea on an empty stomach. In tea, it’s the tannins that do it, but The Rouge replicates some part of tea’s scent so vividly that my stomach reacted like a Pavlov’s dog. The first half hour was so unpleasant I considered scrubbing it off.
Only when the sweet middle notes came to the rescue was I mildly intrigued. The tobacco-like dryness and sweetness came through after all, whispering to my mind of vanilla and caramel, even of cocoa powder. Nuts as such I couldn’t detect, but the whole did morph into something a *bit* subtler, nicer, and more sophisticated than it was in the beginning.
Still, the perfume never lost its primary character, and the final nail in the coffin was when husband smelled my wrist and went ‘yech.’
The sillage and longevity of The Rouge are impressive. I’d describe it as high-pitched rather than soft. Highly synthetic. 100% unisex. Quirky and kind of clever, but ultimately, to my nose, not pleasing.

I was addicted to this for quite a while. Rouge has the biggest personality of the Bvlgari tea line, but it still manages to be clear and subtle. It smells just like a cup of tea blended with peppery spices. Fig, walnut, and clean musk add interest. It becomes more sweet as the drydown progresses, but not too much.
I like to wear it when I’m in a Zen mood…doing yoga, relaxing before bed, etc. Love it on rainy days for some reason. Smells amazing on my boyfriend, too. Definitely unisex.

I love “au the blanc”,so I bought a sample size of this after reading here so many positive comments…unfortunately,I can’t find nothing good in this…while “au the blanc” is airy, ozonic, fresh, calming, alluring, this one is too hot,too heavy, too sweet, too spicy;the only note I smell in this is “red fruits tea” and nothing else,no nutmeg,no citrusy notes,no fig…
even if it’s announced as unisex,I think it’s absolutely feminine;maybe I had too different expectations…in my opinion, not a good option for a blind buy, expecially if you like fresh scents.

Emirates airlines uses the Bvlgari fragrance and skincare range on their flights, so I was introduced to The Rouge in the in-flight cosmetic kit they provided.
Oh, the horrors. This smells like rooibos tea with several hefty spoonfuls of white granulated sugar and condensed milk that has gone slightly sour. I was literally sick to my stomach the duration of my flight from NY to Dubai. And, as fragrance law would have it, I couldn’t scrub it off my skin!
If you like tea scents, sweet scents, hot milk and rooibos tea, then The Rouge is for you. Otherwise, be forewarned!

A very sweet tea fragrance. Nice, yet (IMO) too feminine-the tea crosses the threshold for me in terms of gender. I wore this a few times and just couldn’t appreciate its offering-not able to get past its feminine aspects.Too sweet for my liking.

Lovely sample from a lovely fragrantican. On first spritz I get the pink pepper and citrus, as it develops it’s easy to tell the tea is central to everything with a lovely nuttyness grounding the whole thing. I keep sniffing my hand and really get the urge to lick it!!! I really like this and as others have said would be great in hot weather. Sadly after 15 mins this has faded quite a bit so not quite fb worthy.

Fragrance Review For Eau Parfumee The Rouge Bulgari
Top Notes Orange Pink Pepper Bergamot
    Middle Notes Fig Tea
    Base Notes Musk Walnut Resins
Eau Parfumee Au The Rouge is a spicy and aromatic tea perfume. It is layered with strong Oriental touches of spices, resins and even tobacco. The first time I saw this beauty was in the dresser table of a gay friend. He let me borrow it and I returned it to him but loved it so much that I thought I’d buy one. Around 3 years ago this was still selling on the Bulgari website. I do like Bulgari especially their debut women’s fragrance Bulgari Pour Femme which is the height of luxury for perfume! So I thought I’d give this one a chance. Right off the bat it’s a unisex aromatic scent. It does smell like a spicy tea. There was also something that smelled like a red rose but it’s not listed as one of the notes. At the first spritz I detected the citrus and the pepper note. It then turns into that tea scent. It lasts for a long time but somehow, somehow it’s not too strong. It’s a light subtle scent that becomes part of your skin. I love the dry down. It smelled mostly of musk and resins. But again not very heavy. This feels very elegant and formal but it’s easy to wear any time anyplace. I can’t thank my friends enough for getting me into perfumes that I would never have known existed. This is a great Bulgari scent even though it kind of looks like but does not smell like Bulgari Rose Essentielle which is far more popular. But this one is very very nice. If you like tea fragrances and are looking for tea perfumes try this one.

I really have an affinity for tea scents that smell like tea and don’t turn into some type of cinnamon or spicy hybrid. The tea is center stage in this one and is very wearable. I do not like it at all when it first goes on but it settles down quite quickly and become lovely. I’m not sure if the if the onset is unique to the eau parfumee or not but it doesn’t matter because all the undesirableness dissipates within minutes. So many people refer to this as spicy and strong (other than the initial spray on) but I don’t find it either. I find it delicate which is not to say this can not be worn by a man. It is unisex in a CK One kind of way (it does not smell like CK One) but more complex and much more enjoyable. I would love to smell this on a man actually.
I live in a part of Texas that gets HOT during the summer and this is light enough that it will not get smattered and become some stinky abomination due to the heat.
If you are looking for something pretty, powdery, floral, sweet fruity or very feminine this is not the scent for you.
It is a very lovely tea scent that I think will work well for many people.

I have this perfume and I really love it. It reminds me of the perfect professional, business woman perfume for the office! I know it’s advertised as unisex, but I think this is much more feminine than I would want my husband wearing. This is not pretty, flowery, or fruity, just a nice, crisp scent! I like tea scents, so I guess that is why I like this one too.

Bought a very nicely presented gift set of edc, after shave lotion, and body lotion, for £7.00 to try this frag. Why so cheap? No idea. The edc gives an initial impression of very life-like and up-lifting tea which deserves a round of applause because it is a show-stopper but unfortunately it fades far too soon. After thirty minutes, the lingering scent lies very close to the skin (or my nose has been desensitised?) and is reduced to a vaguely jammy ‘figgy florals’ plus a hint of delectable walnut. It feels oriental, actually Japanese, to me and I think that is because it is so close to the skin it is a personal experience for oneself alone, introspective, miniaturised, a Zen moment, bonsai, sushi, small, perfectly formed. If you follow me? It’s very good quality stuff, there’s nothing offensive here, but sadly nothing memorable either. No, I put that badly. What I mean is that it’s very well crafted but it is crafted as a miniature or a watercolour when a mural is required and thus the end result somehow disappoints by being too self-effacing. When we live in a world where talentless nobodies become household names it seems culpable that excellence is so diffident. Virtue should assert itself or it betrays its own gifts. This frag refuses to stand up and be counted and that is just wrong. So it is memorable but it is a memory of something fading away. Anyway, I will use up the gift box contents which I consider very good value for money at the price I paid but I doubt I would buy a full bottle. If the tea was less fleeting or the walnut louder then this frag would join my ‘love to wear’ collection but as it is the dry-down is just too small to merit giving this frag a place on my limited shelf space in my tiny bathroom. I like to smell unique not generic, to stand out not fade into the background. I think this fragrance is designed for office workers (Tokyo ‘salary men’?) who have to blend in, look/smell conservative (even if they are not). Fortunately, as a self-employed ‘creative’ I get licence to be more daring with my personal grooming. If I want to smell like burning rubber or pickled window-putty during work hours I can. Heck, it’s probably even tax-deductable heuch-heuch-heuch!

The undoubted masterpiece of the tea range. I was heartbroken when this was discontinued and delighted to see it’s return. The only difference appears to be in the packaging, thank God. This is the one which truly is unisex. The gorgeous tea notes are complemented by fig and bergamot and a hint of pink pepper before the resin comes through after the initial spray. This is balanced and warm and wonderful. It really is sensational. It works for every season and every occasion and elicits compliments. It’s not the strongest or most long lasting scent but if you ever get the body lotion to go with it, combine the two and you’re on to a winner. Bravo Bulgari! Bravo!

A very refined, accomplished tea on fig-nutmeg fragrance. Magnificent in its subtlety. My favourite fig fragrance.

I have Au the Rouge in the clear bottle so I am not sure if that will make a difference to this review with regards to possible reformulations.
I typically love Au the Rouge in the summer. I feel that in cold weather, this fragrance tends to stay linear – sharp rooibos, fig note from start to end. However i believe warmer temperatures make it brew; as tea should ;). In the dry down, there is a lovely light floral note effortlessly floating on top of the ever present rooibos base which i continuously get whiffs of and its gorgeous. very unique fragrance.

Discontinued? No. Reformulated? Yes. The perfume in the new packaging and all red bottle is not the same nutty, sweet red tea. It is quite dull and very musky unfortunately. Does not last as long as the older formula either, no surprise there. If you want a good red tea get the clear bottled original version. I tested both side by side to compare and was disappointed.

Very strong tea beginning. What surprises me is from bitter dry tea, it develops into creamy drydown.
It lasts about 4 hours with decreasing sillage overtime. It is cologne but behaves more or less like modern edt.

A spicy Rooiboos tea, light and warm, that dries down to a tea time appropriate snack of meaty walnut and fresh green figs. Simple, clean, and soothing, an excellent palate cleanser when your nose is fatigued from wearing heavier fragrances with elaborate high concept notions.
Not terribly lasting, and not much of a trail…..however since this can be found for a song online, you can feel free to reapply liberally without any wallet related stress breaking the mood.
Pretty, polite, and just enough of a gentle divergence from the bottomless buckets of tea fragrances to distinguish itself, this is one of my more budget friendly favorites.
I am reasonably sure this has been discontinued, so grab some while it lasts.

I like this scent… Very well done from Bvlgari.
The rouge opens citrussy just to fade into a delicious afternoon snack of figs and tea. Very warming and soothing. It’s soft projection and long lasting power provides it with a sense of intimacy that only you can enjoy. Very nice.

Eau Parfumme Eau The Rouge by Bvlgari is absolutely amazing. It is very gentle and calming. At first spray I smell the tea, yes beautiful and wonderful tea. The dry down is a mild fig with walnut and musk. The tea note lasts throughout the day even in the dry down. I could wear it every day.

Lord how I LOVE this fragrance!!! I picked it up at Ross about three years ago (it’s 2015 now) as a blind buy after enjoying selling Bulgari eau the vert to my shoppers at work. OH. MY. GOD. I was floored by this blind buy (my first ever blind buy at that, WHAT luck) instantly!! To me, it smells like the spoils of a harvest, and all the things I love about the cooler seasons. There’s a real “dark fruit” quality to this, that’s rich, beautiful, and simply effortless. It reminds me of stewed cherries, the subtly earthy smell of real silk fabric, and the pleasant smell of a being inside a well kept old wooden barn on a warm autum day (minus any animal or animal related smell). THere’s something very “sundown,” / “now the dark is coming but you have nothing to fear” about this scent. If you love fig, but without the earthy or sharp edge, love the smell and flavor of dark fruits, and are looking for a warm inviting scent that’s not sticky or sweet or spic
