This is what i would wear in winter sitting infront of a fireplace drinking a great single malt islay whiskey.
This is masculine and dry as a bone in drydown. It starts juicy with a blast of wet spices and probably even patchouli, leather, smoke and dry wood and while the slight patchouli smell disapears after an hour, the rest of the notes stay put and become smoother with each minute. A great woody leathery thing with fantastic performance. The drydown reminds me of Masculin Pluriel minus the lavender. Yes to me this is the drier, less sweet and less oily version of Masculin Pluriel.

Giant astringent patchouli opening that fortunately gives way but not before all circuits are turned off. There’s a lovely wood note hidden in there. Nasomatto’s Black Afghano is one of my favorites, and I can smell some of the more artificial notes from BA in Duro, a profile which emerges thankfully after drydown. I think it’s mostly kephalis that stands out in BA to a large extent and emerges with a lighter touch after drydown in Duro.
The construction, the whole package, does not work for me. I jcould not get past the patchouli and leather. If you like Amouage scents, this one’s for you. But it’s certainly not for me, but understand I haven’t found an Amouage I like. I understand perhaps why people like Duro. For someone like me, it smells like male overcompensation, and that’s never attractive. Nor is smelling like the grandmother who has been drinking and stinks of smoke and cheap lipstick left open in a bedraggled handbag. It’s the kind of smell some creepy dude thinks is sexy but just sort of reeks of “sex panther.” This is for men who think 50 Shades of Grey is erotic.

Duro is a beautiful woody, leathery, smoky, spicy, manly scent for cool weather, day and night. The spicesness looks like the one it exist in Jubilation. These scents are not similar though but it has a vibe from the Jubilation.
It opens with a slightly dirty/animalic leather note which becomes stronger as time passes but loses the dirtyness. It’s safe and inoffensive and totally masculine.
Dominant notes are leather, patchouli, resins, dry tobacco, woods, incense and maybe oud. I get a vibe of a very nice but slightly medicinal and smoky patchouli which looks like oud but it isn’t imo. I’m not sure if I smell oud or a high grade patchouli here but I loooove this smell whatever it is. Duro for my nose is a dominant leather/patchouli scent with woods and spices. There’s also a boozy vibe at the opening but it fades away quite quickly. I also get mild black pepper, mild vetiver, a faint dusty/ashtray sub-sweet vibe and maybe a tiny trace of cloves. Overall Duro doesn’t feel well balanced or natural, the notes are all over the place, but I love it as it is.
Duro is a long lasting scent but with moderate/limited projection. It calms quickly and settles close to the skin. I understand, when we loove a scent we use to exaggerate about it but I’m sure Duro has moderate projection at best and not beastly as the voting shows.
Btw, Duro has a very very smart marketing… superb!

This is my favorite men’s perfume so far. It smells…reliable.
It opens with warm patchouli, then a bitter smoky notes jump out in the middle, quickly disappears, gradually turns into compound woody notes, with the slightest musky hint.
    Long lasting, low project.
P.S. Monsieur by Frederic Malle is another male perfume I wear.
Interestingly, these two have similar vibe, but develop in exactly opposite direction.
Monsieur has a somewhat dry, austere woody beginning, but gradually falls to a bed of comfortable patchouli; whereas Duro start with a softer notes, which is slightly on the sweet side, and eventually transitions to multi-layered woods.

What a wonderful woody concoction! An airy, leather, tobacco-smoky, yet slightly sweet fragrance.
Three fragrances come to mind: The spicy berriness in Jubilation XXV, the smokiness of PdM’s Nisean, and the incensy feel of Amouage Epic Man.
Not to confuse anyone, these fragrances only put me in a certain genre or category, if you will, as you think through the aroma and essence of this fragrance.
Duro is a very nice fragrance! Very pleased.

Bottle is on the way, and oh man the sample smells so freakishly good it gives me goosebumps! I don’t know what the f*** they put in here but a deep whiff of this feels like an olfactory drug and I can’t wait for the bottle to get here!
To me it smells like luxurious sweet leather, with some kinda woody or nutty vibe to it. It’s less fruity-sweet than Tuscan Leather (which I absolutely adore), and I suppose that makes it more masculine. It does not have the ashy/smoky aspect of Tuscan Leather, but that nutty vibe is just outstanding for me.I love having both as they are probably my two favorite leather smells. Further testing of performance soon!

Used it today for a first time, oud is noticable and a slightly animalic/sweaty aura coming from the leather… Unfo i didnt see the longevity that all are talking – black afgano seems to be much better in this area-
but i will be in the position to see it better in the next days. Definetely nothing that has not been done before but a nice and masculine perfume.. Too soon to see it deeply so im not in the position to judge it 100pc. Patchouli is something that can be noticed as well as a slight sweetness. Will revert…
2nd day, same with longevity.. It takes you about 5-6 bours and sits close to the skin
After using it again, it has longevity and is more than enough. I like it although i had my doubts before but now i like it a lot. Masculine 100pc.

My gf usually doesn’t like leathery notes at all, or even most masculine type notes for that matter. This one is definitely close to both of those things, but she was really impressed and intrigued with this one, very creative as wel as pleasing. I know peter said it was possibly just a synth base (black agar by Firmenich or Givaudan – (spelled?)), as well as maybe cashmeran of some kind, but that really doesn’t take away any of the creative merit of this one for me personally. Also a perfume head Co worker girl’s favorite release out of Nasomatto’s men’s offerings, is Duro

Dark fiery animalic oud leather incense combo with a herbal twist. Nothing sweet, bright or cheery here!

Great scent; But I have to admit the lasting power is not the greatest, It sits very close to the skin, It is definitely not a winter scent, Will try again in the summer and update my review,
    Scent 10/10
    Long lasting 5/10
    Thanks,

Does anyone else have performance issues with this? I know it’s supposed to be beast mode but I can barely smell it projecting off me after about an hour. Is it possible I’m going nose blond or is my skin just hovering up the fragrance as soon as I put it on
Otherwise, this is a great scent. Strong, dark, masculine. It’s got such an aggressive tone yet it isn’t offensive. Not as creamily refined as Pardon and not as delicious as Baraonda but a beautiful scent nonetheless

  12. :

Alpha male masculine. Projection is over the top with a single spray. Wood and leather mostly with something spicy. Not very smooth, kind of sharp and in your face. I can’t imagine a woman wearing this… at least not the ones in my world, nor the ones I would be attracted to for that matter. Duro reminds me of those classic uber masculine colognes from the 80’s (Kouros, Quorom, Giorgio, etc) when fragrance houses competed to have the strongest cologne for men on the market with sillage that entered a room before you did. Duro is a MUST try before you buy. Absolutely not for the office or humid summer days. Best in cold winter nights walking around the city (e.g. New Years Eve) or taking the lady out to dinner.

  13. :

This is my favourite 🙂 I don’t feel it like masculine at all, I’m a 30 y.o. lady and it is just perfect for me – for all the occasions (office, nights out, dinners, lunches..) It is so warm and calm, very classy and expensive. I receive compliments all the time and I am absolutely addicted to this frag. The silage and projection are very good. Absolutely worth the price!

this is really sexy! Opening is a bit dry oudy, but few minutes it bridges to leathery and spicy.
very masculine! So makes me strong

I get an obvious synthetic oud accord, very resinous and quite sweet. A subtle spice and a musty slightly animalic note and a soft illusion of leather. It doesn’t change much on skin, it doesn’t project very well on my skin and lasts around 5 to 6 hours. Not sure if it’s subject to reformulation in the last couple of years I am not sure.. but that’s what I get out of it.
Pardon is my personal favourite from the house, the obvious synthetic smell in this one puts me off..

  16. :

    5 out of 5

A leathery somewhat woodsy masculine fragrance, it can induce a sense of unease and dread in very sensitive individuals. A bit overdone and somewhat synthetic IMO.

  17. :

    5 out of 5

A dry woody scent with sweet and spicy facets. I pick up a synthetic medicinal oud, along the lines of M7 Oud Absolu. It’s nicely done, but perhaps too linear for those seeking something more dynamic.

  18. :

    5 out of 5

I love most of Nasomattos fragrances, but this one feels a bit plasticky and synthetic..It just doesn’t do anything for me..the opening is very harsh and spicy, but longevity is good and it gets a lot better later on.it is definitely a take on the sexual side of the word hard, or duro..

  19. :

This has a wet cardboard box quality to it that I really like. A box, sitting in a damp basement filled with leather bound books and paper. The scent you breath in is aromatic, pungent but not gross, you can smell the leather, the wood, the mold. All in all, it’s intoxicating. Unlike others in the Nasomatto line, this is very much a one-act play, not much evolution or change in the scent over time. But there is nobility in this kind of dependability. I did own this once but sold it because it quickly dropped off my frequently worn list and it’s cost it too high to have it sitting staring back at me.

maybe the best in nassomatto house is this one IMO.
start with unique boozy-spicy notes that i really crazy about and little turn to woody note in continue.last and sillage is beast.really worth this price and use just in special situation.10/10

I’m not a big fan of this one, and I agree with a previous comment in that it smells like old sweat, not a pungent armpit sweat but more like an old shirt left unwashed in a closet for some time.
Smells a bit leathery, cumin like, and some animalistic notes. There’s no sweet or floral notes as far as I can tell.
I tried it few times but it’s not for me.

This is, bar none, the manliest fragrance I have ever smelled. Actually reminds me of Clint Eastwood in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

  24. :

This is a suprisingly sweet and uplifting scent, given its reputation for being a “beast”. It does have a hot, assertive, almost pheromonic presence – yet one absent of brutality or harshness: A 30-year-old’s testosterone-fueled adventure.
My nose had to learn this scent; it’s really modern, and at first I could hardly even detect it. Now, it smells like an enormous thrillride.

Hmm, I really wanted to like this, it smelled quite good in the store. However, after putting on the sample at home my wife’s first reaction was: “It smells like antiseptic!”
Also, did not project at all!

  26. :

    5 out of 5

Strong and impressive as its reputation holds, I’m glad to finally try Nasomatto Duro and experience what’s usually hailed as a masculine beast fragrance.
Part of the charm of Nasomatto is the absence of note listings, so we need to rely on our own senses and the suggestions of others in determining the breakdown.
In the mix for me are oud, leather, and woods, and I get a bit of booziness probably from a whiskey type of note. Apart from liquor, I have a difficult time accounting for the slight sweetness I detect in a storm of semi-harsh masculine notes.
Performance marks are very high, at the extreme end along the lines of some of the Slumberhouse beasts, some Tom Ford Private Blends, and so on.
Given how biting it is, it’s difficult to give this the very highest marks but for me it’s a solid, high-performing cold weather masculine option that one does really need to love to splurge for, at $185 for 30ml extrait.

Wow. That’s the best word to describe this MASTERPIECE. Duro is a very manly fragrance. 80’s powerhouse performance without that 80′ powerhouse smell. Duro is a fresh cut piece of wood in a big way with some Oud and booze poured over it. It’s the one that I wear when I am feeling like going on a adventure or something. It’s going to get you recognized in a good way and you will get a complement. I always do when I wear this. Now don’t go hard on the trigger here guys, two sprays goes a long way and will last you the whole day!
I own the best three from the house and that’s subjective but that’s black afgano, this and pardon. Oh yeah. Don’t let the 30ml fool you. It will outlast almost any designer 100ml EDT you own. So fresh, so powerful and so manly. Such a great fragrance and it’s not too complex. This is one I would even reccomend to a non collector who just wants one great fragrance that will last them a long time and get them noticed.
    10/10 masterpiece

Cold and distant. Something that demands attention from the opposite sex. Best worn in the cooler months with a rugged leather jacket and leather boots, feeling adventurous and a bit mischievous.
This is not for everyone, but on the right person I believe this potion could do wonders.

I bought this awhile back and although I like it it’s very strong. Use lightly. I don’t use it much cause I usually prefer more florals. I gave it to my husband and it is better on him and I still get to enjoy it.

    Duro
    Vigorous, full-bodied, unique.
Duro opens on my skin with a woods scent. I am not able to identify the wood note. The glorious leather comes through, it smells like uncured leather! I sense oud, it has a bitterness to it. I sense some soft sweet spices, faint vanilla. There is a magnetizing powdery musk-like aroma on my skin accompanying the leather. I think I sense incense even if I dont see it in the pyramid. The woods are deep, heavy slightly smoky blending with the leather.
Duro lasted on my skin for 7 hours and the sillage is enormous! This is a must try for lovers of Leather!
Perfume has no gender, don’t worry about Duro being marketed towards men, women can wear this.

yesterday i wore duro and i can still smell it.
This stuff opens very duro and stays duro.
This is straight up wood, durowood.
To me it smells like a freshcut tree or woodlog with that kind of sharp, wet aroma that the tree releases from it,s tree juices.
That wet, freshcut, woody aroma that this fragrance does, makes it give that hardness to it. That “duro”
Someone on here said this is his leather jacket, his feeling dangerous scent and i get what he means.
This stuff makes you feel dangerous, smell dangerous
I,ve smelled darker, deeper and more powerfull scents than this one but not as dangerous like duro.
    Duro has this foxy feeling.
For me i am happy with my sample but if you,
feel attracted to the dark, sly, dangerous side, then this one might be worth checking out.
This is the scent a sithlord would wear pulling out some mindtricks… May the foxy force be with you

Wearing this today this is Wood leather and spices plus some more wood and spices… + ATTITUDE 🙂 This is for a mans man… cant really see this worn by a woman well it could be i guess but this one is more men focused…
Starts of harsh and my turn people off but after 30 min when its starts to dry off a little bit of sweetness come through from sandalwood… other then that pretty much linear smelling.
Performance is good with above average longevity and good silage.
I love this thing… that said try before u buy this one is not blind buy safe.

Duro feels from the entrance to the very concise and simplistic middle notes, almost everything is Cashmeran with a very slight note of spices without much else. Yes it is true that the Cashmeran has a dry woody smell very nice, but it is clear that this does not convert itself into a great aroma and a masterpiece.
Drying improve something and not as minimal as it also comes in leather chord with smoky notes.
Such a simple and pleasant little artistic composition, with good length and projection, but that is not justified (for nothing) the high price to pay for this fragrance 30ml, about 118 €.

My favourite of the house. Really potent and sexy fragrance. Lots of patchouli in the beginning. Please note that this scent really has to be put on the skin for an optimal review. I first sprayed it a paper and after some weeks on my skin. That’s when I really began to appreciate this one.
Bottle worthy even with this price. Piece of art.
PS Do not blind buy this one! It’s not a “crowd pleaser or a typical safe scent… ”

To me, Duro smells like… patchouli. Lots and lots of earthy, moist, vegetal-spicy patchouli. Very smooth and with a fascinating sort of wet sparkle to the top, but ultimately not what I want to smell like and doesn’t seem worth the price for me. Perhaps other ouds I’ve tested today have numbed my nose, so I may give it one more test…
(LOVE Nasomatto’s Black Afgano & several others, but this one seems lacking in the depth/progression of the others.)

I hate nearly every leather fragrance I come across. Well, that stopped today. The beauty that is held inside this 30ml bottle, so sparkling, radiating, and deliciously masculine, is quickly becoming a favorite. Hate I waited so long to try this! FBW Masterpiece!

I think many of these reviews are exaggerated in one way or another. This definitely smells masculine and classic. However, it’s not animalic, and it does not smell offensive in that it resembles body odor or hair, or anything of the sort. What I get here is leather, woods, an oud accord, incense, and maybe patchouli. It’s woody, slightly sweet, resinous, and leathery. It’s very well made, and I personally think it could be worn year round.

i don’t wanna disgust you but this has an awful story that Alessandro said himself to my friend.
he said “this fragrance came from the idea and the smell of me scratching the area between my thighs and my (sorry Ladies) balls.. so this came out”
that was hilarious specially on having such an inspiration.
now truly i can imaging that it was the smell!! i can smell leather yes, wood note, slightly animalic, and to be honest i kind of smell hair, slight armpit, and tan skin essence. citrus, sourness, and hint of cotton! grass, greens, and some pepper.

THIS IS GORGEOUS!!!!!!! All I ever hear people talk about is Black Afghano which is great. But Duro is the masterpiece from this house. This is sex in a bottle. Strangely to my sex apparently smells like clean garden soil mixed with root beer. Amazing. People literally stop me every time I wear this and bury their heads in my neck. Men and women. In fact although is is definitely a more “masculine” scent I have given it to several female coworkers who love wearing this themselves. Wear this is you want to get noticed.

Hello All (that choose to read),
So… I don’t know what the ‘deal’ with Perfumiers actively concealing (or rather – refusing to reveal) the contents of their work – is. **Assuming role of Devil’s Advocate, here:** I know… It’s “Art” & should certain Perfumiers choose to NOT reveal their “creative process,” then that is their choice! Humph! …right? I am sorry, but I must DISrespectfully DISAGREE! In my opinion, it is the equivalent of being forced to watch a fascinating movie on MUTE!! You like what you see, but very much want to know what is going on as well. *Hangs head* I know, that was an awful analogy. It just irks the hell out of me. Yeah, onward…
I apologize for the rant and thank you for the kind ear/shoulder. I do enjoy this fragrance. A lot, in fact. There is a lightly sweetened, tart black-currant. This note plays well with the Ambergris. Neither are listed, but both are very much present. A clean, synthetic Amber, generic “All-Wood” (if I may) and soft-untanned leather are what this ends up drying to. Blended well. If you Iike musks, then you’ll almost certainly dig this. Thank you very much for your patience.
    Thanks again,
    JJ

Bold woody aromatic, which is supposed to depict all things manly. Not at all is this overly vulgar or offensive to me. If anything, this to my nose is luxuriously sweet – from the woods and leather. Also brings to mind aged oud, therefor evokes assertiveness and collectedness. A very good blend in my opinion. If price is a turnoff, go for JC’s Dirty English for a more economic alternative.

Oh, wow this is soooo sexy scent.
I felt stunned by its sensuous strength.
I don’t know if this is only for men, what I know is that’s simply charismatic, powerful, compelling.
This scent whisks you away and takes you away into a sensual embrace of leather and wood spices.
It’s a living skin that glistens with spices and smells of resinous woods. It’s an earthy fragrance that inspires you with primordial feelings but always leaving you with an extreme experience of classy and sophistication.
I could abuse a man who wears it, but I would wear myself. :-p

I’m adding this not so much as a review, but to add something that no-one else has mentioned. This probably means that either I have had a couple of olfactory ‘off-days’ when I’ve sampled this, or that my skin does something odd to Duro? I’d love to hear if anyone else gets the same, or has a better/different explanation of what I’m getting…
I won’t bother repeating the general observations of the primary notes themselves as the other reviews capture this perfectly well. But I notice that, after the initial heady, thick initial wadge of oud-ish woody, leathery, medicinal smokiness has subsided, but before the softer, almost soapy ‘pale-incense’ arrives, I am getting a slight touch of what I can only describe as almost parma-violet. It took me a while to sense it there under the dryer wood of the drydown, but I swear I’m getting it! Imagine taking a small parma-violet sweet (candy), crushing it and sprinkling the pieces on a still wood dusted cut tree stump. It is VERY subtle, but I get this each time so far.
Also, just for the record, I think that the ‘right’ woman could wear this. No, it’s not girly (more steampunk?!), but after the initial ‘thwack’ of sticky darkness, this opens out into a much more approachable state.

My remaining sample of Duro was used this morning and although I’d worn it twice before (once & now with aerator) there had been no noticeable distinctions made by others – except this morning. Not only did I get a couple of appealing remarks but I too began to appreciate it in a new and comfortable sort of way. After about an hour I thought it wasn’t going to work with my chemistry but after about 2hrs I began to settle into the warmth of this fragrance and really connect with its’ source notes of wood and leather. Wood almost to the degree of cedar combined with spices.
Unfortunately I lost the trail after about 2.5 hrs and had to seek out a ‘life-line’ for further observations. So as uncomfortably as it was I asked a couple of female colleagues and they assured me that earlier this morning they noticed it, but now there was no scent trail whatsoever. My wife couldn’t notice anything even as a skin scent on my neck either. Very disappointing for this juice at this price.
I’m considering sampling the Aoud Musk Montale.

This isn’t a review but rather a preamble(of sorts)of hope: I spend a lot of time researching the various fragrances which seem to appeal to me(i.e. Notes with Amber, Patchouli, incense, oud, musk, woods,…). In full disclosure I am the quintessential novice and neophyte so I tread lightly…especially with this niche price point. Being a minister I must measure my expenses to say the least.
Having said that I am so excited to have tried a few samples lately thru LuckyScent and have learned more about what I and my wife prefer – She’s my involuntary trainee 😉
Now I’m about to launch out & learn a little more — This Nasomatto Duro is going to be my next experience and I can’t wait to share my experience with you.
I’m so grateful for this wonderful community of people who are so intuitive, civil while yet being intelligent –sometimes the two are not mutually inclusive.

Update: 1/16/14 Just recieved confirmation of shipped order —- I haven’t felt this anxious since I was awaiting special parts for my 87′ 560SEL MB. Like a Big ‘almost’ 49 yr old Kid! I never knew being a “Fume-head” could be so exhilarating.

It’s a masculine scent simply outstanding! It belongs to the category of woody fragrances, where the woods are then rendered particularly attractive by spicy notes. I have bought a bottle for my husband today and I can assure it a very long lasting scent. No doubt it also a rare expression of masculinity but always in a very elegant and sophisticated way. Duro does not correspond to HARD, it is more a name that wants to emphasize a charming man who wants to say something with his scent.
    Congratulations to Nasomatto

    DURO!!!!
The HARD ON of male perfumery!
I saw a video of some guy reviewing it on youtube and he claimed that the name had sexual connotations. I had to correct him at the time thinking ‘Duro’ just means ‘Hard’ in Italian and it was just his dirty mind and the marketing material talking about what a masculine statement this fragrance makes. That’s the intended concept anyway…and as I said I was skeptical.
That was…until I got my nose on it!
Wild this one… make no mistake!
If you like wood up the wazzoo this is the fragrance for you!
Loud woodiness of dank strong Oud and a harder denser wood combined with it.
Then there’s the spice it’s hard but not in a cooking spice type of way or even a hot chili kind of way, it’s dry woody spice…almost like the natural spicey scent that would come from a piece of exotic wood.
This fragrance for me is absolutely everything I look for in a masculine powerhouse. The spice perfectly tones down the unpleasant quality oud can have. You know? that bit when it takes a nosedive after the initial almost sweet strange amber quality.
Anyway…the price of this juice is high, extortionately high some might say but I still felt Duro was a worthy purchase because of how bold and strong this juice is.
Longevity and projection are massive as you’d expect from extrait de parfum.
It’s not especially unique smelling this one but what can I say? It has a certain appeal & I was charmed by it.

Duro!! I can not understand the notes of this masterpiece, and ‘a scent that I think most do not understand’ but on the skin and ‘exceptional try it for at least a day on your skin, for those who complain about the price in Italy costs € 108 with discount it has 100, a good price for an essence of perfume, stress, eSSENCE oF PERFUME, for a perfume ARTISAN AND SUMMARY ….. my vote and ‘9/10 ……

I smell this and cannot imagine how anyone could not like it. Some fragrances you know are a little quirky and may be an acquired taste. Very nice wood note with great longevity and sillage. What is there not to like. Yes it is a manly fragrance, so what, i’m a man. This is pure heaven in my books.

Smells like vix rub … woody musky like a incense burning on wood in a hindu temple not something i would wear … drydown is a little better but all i can smell is that wood note

It smells like someone who isn’t very nice. Like someone ruthless, climbing the corporate ladder and greasing the rungs behind him who doesnt look back and doesnt stop smell the roses. Great to install fear in your juniors, less so to make friends.
