This kind of came up to my expectations. Nice, woody ginger. The name is very accurate.

Very unique and bold. Unlike its name suggests, the perfume is not really about ginger, although ginger is the central note here. The other notes it is blended with include pepper, cumin, clove, , lime, paolo santo and vetiver. All these lend a mystical South Asian spirituality and vibe to this expertly blended natural perfume. The overall evocation is of piety and calmness. Although this brand has another perfume called ‘Holi’ water, it is this one which actually reminds me of a spot on evocation of the holy water used in Vedic purification rites. This is not an easy perfume to like for a Western audience but it is an utterly unique and haunting piece of perfume art.

Purchased this and Jasmine Smoke from the Heretic line. A year ago I went searching for a natural smelling ginger fragrance and never found a winner (although Origin’s Ginger Essence was close). Origins is great and anyone who likes Dirty Ginger but can’t handle the cumin should look there – but DG offers a little more longevity, complexity, and edginess. Lends a nice lived-in perky feeling to my state of mind.

Oh, if only we could soar in the clouds a little bit longer! The ginger. The GINGER! Oh my goodness, this is actually, for several fabulous minutes, the most breath-taking ginger scent without being foodie. It skews a bit “masculine” but it’s just a zesty, lemony, fantastic spicy ginger blast with citrus following.
And then…shamefully, cumin appears. I love cumin, and I actually get along just fine with it in a lot of “skanky” or “BO” type perfumes. I often think it adds a depth or grounding or is in just the right amount to smooth a scent out or add “some” sexy armpit/crotch. But this. This is unwashed after the gym major “crotch.” And it wasn’t good.
The lift of the ginger (so clean, dare I say) and the lemony-zest of it, so bright and crisp I could smell it as if I was peeling the skin of a ginger root became a weird funked BO, a hot cumin-salsa.
So my highest rating goes to the name, which is absolutely accurate: “Dirty Ginger.” It is. Try it, if nothing else, for that opening–you may enjoy the dry down more than I did.
