This is nice. I have the deo and it reminds me of kryptomint with more chocolate, no mint. A tiny hit of cherry. I dont remember ever smelling this in public like the others.

The body wash compliments my fall/winter fragrances extremely well! I highly recommend this pairing during the colder months. Sure, chocolate maybe the selling point of this line, but brief notes of cherry and vanilla is pure ecstasy. Now that I think of it, I actually get noticed wearing this than most colognes I’ve worm. From Axe, who would’ve thought?

I will never understand the hate for this fragrance! Ladies like chocolate boys, PERIOD! and this is possibly one the best chocolate fragrance in the market right now. I am personally a big fan of sweet fragrance, I own many chocolate fragrance both cheap and costly. And even though my favorite is EROS…. axe dark temptation is my all time fav !

    This is not for me.
I can appreciate a gourmand and this would fall into that category… But, I just can’t appreciate this version of it.
I don’t detect spice to it at all. It’s all cocoa-sweet.
It’s understandable why the ad campaign was so successful, the ladies seem to like this one.
In my most humble opinion, there are better Axe fragrances out there.
Update : I was wrong, there is spice present in this scent. I smelled a guy wearing it on the train a few days ago. Be that as it is; I’m still not a fan.

This is legitimately good. I wear it myself and would love it on a man too. Sometimes I layer it with Black Opium, a fragrance I find meh on it’s own.
There’s nothing too dark about this and the chocolate is more of a milky one rather than a dark choc. No wonder really if you consider the vanilla and whipped cream in this. Despite it all, it manages to not be too sweet. This is such a good, affordable buy. The shower gel didn’t manage to capture the scent accurately, in my opinion at least. So I was a bit disappointed. Still, nothing to complain about here. Axe did good on this one. Still find it funny how rarely I get complimented on “designer” stuff and then I wear Dark Temptation and immediately “Oh what is that? You smell good!” Ahahaha IT’S AXE, GIRL.
edit – Layering this with Dior Addict is killer. So sweetly dark and beautiful. It toned down a tiny part of Addict that didn’t sit well with me. I’m editing this in August. I can’t wait for cold weather and grey skies so this can shine. Also, I have to praise the longevity on this thing which I can’t believe I didn’t do in the first place. This is just a body spray but you get hours and hours from it. It’s with you through your whole day.

This is the only Axe fragance I wear, smell sweet and chocolate with an somehow sexy vibe… Yes, smell sexy. Women seems to like it a lot and I personally love this scent. An EDT or EDP fragance should be make with this ADN.

I was hoping to get the same thing other reviewers did, a ‘sweet, slighlty spiced chocolate with a raw chocolate edge’ but I didn’t get anything close to that. I got an undefined fruit dusted with ginger and red pepper, with a weird cakey/muddy not that I think ismeant to be the chocolate. I waited until full dry down, hoping to get that spiced chocolate, and ended up not liking anything about it. It smells like a cross between teenage-boy body spray and gourmand cakey foody BBW splash for teenage girls. No shocker, I guess, being as this IS a body spray aimed at teenage boys, but I’ve had luck with super cheap frags smelling fabulous in the past so I went ahead and risked it. Failure this round, but at least it was cheap.

I’ll be honest and say I kind of like this. It does have a chocolate scent but done tastefully . Issue is Axe has got such a bad rep due to how many tween boys would abuse these body sprays so much that I probably wouldn’t dare use this outside of just putting it on myself or making my room smell good. I never owned a bottle but I’ve smelt it a bit. Maybe I’ll pick one up just for the hell of it .

I personally own both this and Lancome Hypnose for Men. There is nothing in common between them at all.
Dark Temptation is a good spray. I do not hate it but still a cheap scent that everyone knows they are Axe. I do recommend this to be used as air freshener for their best performance.

This is what I wore every single day during my teenage years. On days I didn’t feel like smelling like a chocolate bar, I wore click. That was rare though lol. Still love it, as an air freshener.

Bought DS and EDT for my youger bro as I`m his usual supplier :-), we both got similar style. Dark temptation is oriental, sweet woody vanilla frag. Warm and dark like raw chocolate.

Note this is mostly on the EDT version not the body spray.
Dark temptation to me is kinda like a mix/combo of something like the beginning of pure malt, mixed with CK shocks mid transitioning to base, plus a bit of another fragrance that is escaping me.
However to add to that perhaps strange relation, the “boozyness” in this has a more fizzy aspect. Although calling it fizzy is probably to strong of a word because that would imply this is strong enough to tickle the nose so lets call it “bubbly” instead.
Its also more “gooey” smelling if you will than the others. And although CK shock, and pure malt, both to me have a slight cordial aspect to them, the one in this especially compared to pure malt is more cherryish.
I have never found this to be a chocolate bomb like the commercials suggest(although youre talking to a dude who wears a lot of sweet stuff so perhaps im biased) but certainly there is a sorta chocolate vibe. Something like a cordialish, milk chocolaty, but almost with a bit of spice to it. Which I guess would be the sage and red pepper relating it to a somehow spicy chocolate one min, and a sorta bubbly slightly boozy quality the next.
I don’t think this smells juvenile to me, however performance wise you are getting what you pay for. And by that I mean pretty piss poor. It sits pretty close to the skin almost immediately and despite some of the notes, it doesnt tingle the nose very well so getting wiffs of it to enjoy is pretty random at best and it gets lost in the air pretty often.
That being said although I don’t own the body spray id question the need for the EDT given my experience with it. Although the EDT is not available in the US, where you can get it, its pretty dirt cheap, but the body spray is even cheaper. So it would be interesting to see just how different the performance is, because when all is said in done, if you like the smell, may as well just stick with the body spray.
Overall nice smell, obviously people like it or it wouldn’t have jokes about it, so thats testament to that. But price wise youre getting what you pay for in terms of performance, and again id question if just sticking to the body spray might be the better option.

This is a 99% copy of Lancome Hypnose for men. I have both one on left one on right hand and barely can tell difference.
If you don’t believe me, try by yourself.

Got the body spray based on how nice the deodorant stick smelled, but it had that characteristic AXE odor I encountered too much in high school. Maybe that’s just a thing with their body sprays and the Eau de Toilette would be better.

wow I’m so excited this is in the encyclopedia. this is the one that has a spell on me. my bf, with whom I recently reunited, wears this. memories just flood when I smell this. this is his smell. when he’s around he has this on. I love it’s quirky chocolatey masculine sweetness. Im hesitant to buy him anything else because I want him to smell like himself. love

Until I became involved, quite by chance through my wife, with the fragrance industry… Axe(or as it is known in the UK sales region – ‘Lynx’) was the closest I ever got to ‘smelling nice’. Since then though, I continued to buy the Dark Temptation shower gels for after the gym and am a big advocate of advising that a decent match of a body wash or lotion can enhance the favourite or desired notes of the persons favourite/current chosen fragrance. I love orientals and so I tend to choose vanilla based products to shower with(always a coconut gel for 212VIPMEN… With my PRADA Luna Rossa summer phase it was their metal iced[?cant remember?]type). Dark Temptation is still the only choice that suits my LR Sport, 1Million Privé, L’eau D’Ambre Extreme and CH MEN wardrobe. A staple buy when short of cash or fragrance!

I bought this at the CVS on a whim. 5 bucks well spent even though I will probably never wear this scent. what it does, it does very well. sweet, chocolate, creamy. this would be would probibly be better suited for a much younger person. teenage-early twenties, but for me i think i might just use it to make my car smell nice every once in a while.

This is delicious, plain and simple. I love sweet scents for men and DT definitely fits the bill. I am in no way educated in men’s fragrances, I only know what I like and don’t like when I smell it, and this is GOOD. Chocolate, but more than just that. Sweet, of course, but still pretty distinctly masculine smelling, though that wouldn’t stop me from nicking it from my boyfriend if it pleased me… not that that beats smelling it on him! Sexy for sure. And so inexpensive and easily available on top of it… hard to beat. People associate Axe with college bros who think drowning themselves in it is a substitute for regular showers, and you can’t blame them since we all know someone(s) guilty of that, but this particular offering, at least, has some merit.

This is a body aerosol spray and not a true EDT, EDP or aftershave.
The scent doesn’t develop on me, it sprays on and instantly becomes a warm, spicy chocolate along with cream and vanilla.
Projection/Sillage is around a few feet and no more. Longevity is around 3-6 hours but it does depend on your skin and how much you spray.
Very popular in the UK, Dark temptation is best for night time or a date 2.8/5

This didn’t work for me and honestly was one of the scents that turned me off to Axe for sometime (until rather recently.) The branding of this bodyspray and the smell just wasn’t me. It’s not a bad thing, it’s just a personal preference thing.

  25. :

    This one is nice.
I do not like the opening, when it has that “axe” smell, that i can not describe (it just smells cheap) but later on it starts to get really pleasant. It is sweet and fresh, young and masculine. Even the cherry does not disturbs me ( and i usually do not like cherry in perfumes).
I think it is a good option if you´re looking for something modern and sweet but not too deep or cloying.
I do not know if i would describe it as sexy, probably not, but i would not mind being near a man smelling like this.

It starts like typical man body spray, but if you wait a bit it turns into a variation of taste of fragrance mugler scents. I really like to wear it with Angel, Amen or Bman, I think it compliments the other scents well.
Sweet, creamy, but with a hint of patchouli. Really pleasant for a drugstore body spray.

  28. :

Woman here, and tried the body spray just for a laugh. Well, the laugh was on me. The first spray is not harsh at all, but it is really “shaving cream,” that ubiquitous generic citrus sort of thing that I associate with scents marketed for men. The shaving cream aspect never really goes away, but recedes far into the background, and supports a chocolate baby powder smell, heavier on the chocolate than the powder. And even to call it “baby powder” is misleading. I have more womanly and sexy scents than this, but a woman can totally pull this off.
In a nutshell, take a shower with some fresh soap (like Irish Spring), lightly apply some baby powder, and then open a nice big box of chocolates under your nose. That’s the scent.

    Greetings everyone,
I must review this fragrance/scent. It is absolutely perfect example that cheapie scents can bear some quality.
While I was living in Netherlands, I noticed many different types of AXE cosmetics in local stores due to the fact that AXE is produced there.
In the Netherlands it is possible to purchase both deodorants and EDT versions of AXE scents.
Axe Dark Temptation is actually not that dark. It is sweet, fresh, light and delicious frankly speaking. Vanilla and Chocolate and Sugary Caramel are the main notes.
It does have that LE MALE feeling to it, somewhere in the background, however this is one of the best AXE scents.
Another I could recommend is AXE Africa.
Axe products are synthetic, simple, but it does not make them bad. I have smelled plenty of 30USD frags that project much much inferior quality.
If you have a chance grab AXE Dark temptation and AXE anarchy EDT versions. They are amasing for their price range.
Longevity is good and projection also. It lasts hours but is not a beast.
All in all 9 in cheapie category.
PS. It is a good time to war it since it is less popular than a few years ago.
Would suit someone in the 18-30 years group, or anyone who wants to feel happy and refreshed!
    good luck anyone!

After reading some reviews on this, when I passed by it in a local store I had to get it and try it. Only cost a couple of bucks.
I think it’s really nice and the first blast when you spray it, I like alot. But the negative to this is, since it’s a body spray, it doesn’t last 15 mins on my skin before I can barely smell it. This was my first time ever trying an Axe spray.
If this were an actual cologne I would absolutely buy it.

I’m a perfume freak/addict (woman), and my man wears this spray.
OMG, it’s delicious in a totally manly way. Smells like chocolate and Dior Addict, but in a sexy manly way.
This should be released as a spray/scent/cologne.
Or made into a more feminine female parfum. Dior Addict and chocolate– yes please!

Well…I NEVER thought of even testing any Axe stuff. But,while grocery shopping yesterday…I sprayed Dark Temptation on the top of my hand…then continued shopping. A few aisles over…I got an upward whiff of ths scent from my hand..and….!!!!!!!….wow…I was sold. YES….this is synthetic…cheap…body spray..however…it smells fantastic..so..who cares?!
I will use this as a no-nosense great smelling day scent …no problem. Well…I wore it to work also yesterday…Got 5 comments…without asking…From..OMG you smell awesome…and wow..what are you wearing?! Guys and girls comments. So…I always say wear what smells great to you..no matter the price…brand…ect.
I went back and bought the Dark Temptation body wash too !! I also tried Gold Temptation…LOVE it also. Gives off a Dior Homme vibe. Also..for a more tropical vibe…Axe Excite…coconut/woody vibe…sort of like Joop Homme Wild.

Axe gets a bad for being and inexpensive drug
Store brand labeled as teen drenching trend.
If you don’t go out to your local drugstore and
Scoop up as much as you can carry, you are seriously
Missing out on this heavenly, can’t get enough,
    Long lasting comfy, delicious scent.
Trust me, guys, you will be asked what you are
Wearing. Armani suit, jeans and a hoodie, it works!
Don’t be a snob. Get this!!!

The dark chocolate note is very strong and beautiful, not bitter at all. Vanilla is the second strong note followed by patchouli and them cream.
It’s like a dessert and I really like it but I don’t think this is what I’d be mostly attracted to.
However a very good idea and mix. I remember when this was new and popular… 🙂

    A seductive, sweet chocolate smell.
The best chocolate smell I’ve tried along with Givenchy’s now discontinued “Very Irresistible”.
And it’s long lasting as well.
I wear my shirt then pull the neck to the front & spray vertically from above for 1 second only. Then I do the same from the back.
My body smells beautifully sweet yet manly for the next 10 hours or so.
    Axe’s best selling deodorant!

Even though am female, I absolutely love this, so I was extremely estatic when I found the EDT online to buy. Sadly the EDT is nothing like the body spray, completely different scents.
If anyone knows of a perfume/cologne that smells exactly like this, just last longer pleaseeee let me know.
    Thanks!

My brother had this and I must say, it’s kinda good. Obviously it is a deospray and reeks of alcohol, but besides that its kinda good. Good for being an Axe spray anyways. I wouldn’t use it, but if axe is your jam then this is your best bet. Lasted for 2 hours on me.

I admittedly used to wear axe in my tween years and used to wear orion and dark temptation. Years later ive forgotten about it until I started working at a gym and a guy applied this and it brought back those teenage memories.
Still after all these years I still love this scent but after moving onto better colognes im afraid i wont be repurchasing this. None the less for an axe scent this is still very good !

I love this smell. When I first sampled the axe deodorants this one stood out front and center. It can hold its own against any department store fragrance IMO.
So far I have only owned deodorant stick but I really should invest in the body spray.
Great Cheapie. Please bottle it in a EDP versión!

Probably the best Axe/lynx release since “Oriental” back in the 80’s. I use the entire range of Dark Temptation (shower gel, deodorant & aftershave) and combined they can really pack a punch to see you through a hectic day and I still receive the odd compliment late afternoon as the scent lingers around. Most people are shocked when I tell them it’s Axe/Lynx as they (and usually I) associate it with cheap n cheerful stocking filler spray.
Hats off to this fragrance and if they ever make it into a legitimate EDT then I’ll be first in line to buy a bottle.

This is the best Axe on the market. It’s so sweet and rich all while maintaining a completely masculine vibe.
If you like this fragrance, you should try Antonio Banderas Seduction In Black.
It’s almost identical – sweet, masculine gourmand fragrance. Seduction In Black smells more almondy where Dark Temptation smells more like chocolate and rich cherry.
SiB and Dark Temptation layer perfectly together.

  45. :

I have made fun of this scent, mostly because of the idiotic “Chocoman” ad campaign. However, I finally bought some Dark Temptation and it’s really not bad.
I mainly get the pepper, amber and dark chocolate/whipped cream accords, although the pear and herbs do come through a bit in the drydown.
The problem for me is a certain “chemical” smell, which is slight but does keep me from putting it in the “love” column.
Also, it’s important not to overspray, as the chemical smell becomes much more pronounced then (which is probably why Axe products have a bad reputation for being stinky).
This is a “dry” scent, not overly sweet.
Sillage and longevity are moderate on me, but again I was careful to apply only once, in the morning, unlike the young men who spray the darn stuff every couple of hours and wind up polluting the air.

    A sweet, dark, mysterious smell.
    An amazing smell.
The image of it is made immature by the Axe marketing team & usual target audience of Axe.
Dark Temptations is found as a deodorant spray & as an EDT for relatively low prices.
Put simply, it’s like a variation of Givenchy’s Very Irresistible for men.

Also, for those of you who would like to experience this fragrance in your skin for more time, i recommend ~Malbec Absoluto~, from O Boticario (Brazilian Brand), which unfortunately is not on the database yet.
They’re not alike, but Malbec has a great, lush, dark chocolate mixed with leather, and i think that you guys who appreciate this Axe body spray will also like that Malbec edition.

  50. :

    5 out of 5

    Oh God, Dark Temptation <3
Honestly, is one of the best scents i’ve ever smelled. Is dark (duh), sweet, masculine and sexy (Sexy like a tall, mysterious guy). Is not sweet like A*Men, which reminds me of when you try to put melted candy in a freezer to get hard again. This one, in my opinion, is ONLY for the night (is a body spray, but is HEAVY at when applied). And is totally a crowd-pleaser.
It has that “Body odor” thing, but i think that every body spray has it, must be something chemical used in the making of this kind of product, not a note (and maybe our brains link that smell to body odor since we all know someone who sweats a lot and spray Axe after it). Ans honestly, that “body odor” is not a sweaty mess-gyn locker thing. Is that kind of warm, hot body odor (not that stale thing after you run for an hour)
The thing that keeps it from being generally used, i guess, is that since is a body spray, is not gonna stay on your skin for a really long time. Projects well while it lasts, but doesn’t last that much.
This is one thing that fragrance snobs are missing out. If you find it anywhere, PLEASE, give it a try and forget is a drugstore body spray. Forget the price (here in Brazil you can get the whole line – body spray, antiperspirant and shower gel for less then 10 dollars) and try it.

Thank you Fragrantica for adding this to the database at last. I LOVE this body spray, especially on my boyfriend, but I can rock this too. It’s a masculine, sexy chocolate and doesn’t smell cheap at all. It’s not overwhelming and strong, but very yummy. Okay, I’m a bit biased by the funny commercial, but the scent really delivers. Impressive and memorable.

I love the shower gel from this Axe dark temptation ever since it came out. Even though is for men I use it alot it smells so good on my skin

  53. :

    5 out of 5

I feel like I need to put this out there. I do not wear this scent, I am a female, and I LOVE when men wear it. I’m definitely not into any of the other Axe products, and even though it doesn’t last for long, boy when I can smell it… 😀 ♥
I remember the commercials– it was a man made out of chocolate and all the women kept grabbing pieces of him to eat (ok, that sounds really creepy when typed out), but they were spot on! This scent is a lady killer. And it’s so cheap! So why not own it??

  54. :

    5 out of 5

This is a really nice fragrance for young men but definitely not so cheap. It is low cost but smell almost expensive. well it has nothing to envy to an d&g, ysl, gucci. Really well made a game of contrasts, gourmand buy fresh cream and dry. Dark sweet ambery and sexy. Really a surprise. I found a neglected back body shower into the shower room of an hostel during a last-time trip. And was hmmm my exclamation. The beautiful bottle of the edt (like the Apollo ones) make me think to something tribal a voodoo.
