I just ordered a 1oz EDT for my wife. It is her number one favourite perfume, given that she has around 80 that is no mean feat. The 1 oz would be like 3oz of most other perfumes, it is that strong and deluxe. She is going to love it.

A lovely fall and winter fragrance, Daphne reminds me of mulled cider. Very spicy opening blends perfectly with the citrus notes, with a very subtle hint of evergreen. This is a true unisex scent. Delicious! I can’t stop smelling the crook of my arm!!

Juicy plump raisins provocatively mixing it up with freshly ground spices and citrus zest. Muddled petals tenderly bruised with integrity bind to form perhaps one of the most exquisite smelling perfumes I have ever experienced.
I remember feeling this way about Byzance when I first started wearing it back in 1989.
There is an immense honesty inherent in Daphne. A colossal character she is on my skin and I adore her humbleness. She takes my breath away with her enigmatic arrival only to blend seamlessly in with her surroundings.
The natural composition guarantees the initial elephantine presence of Daphne evolves in perfect harmony with the personality of the wearer.
“Jumbo serenity” springs to mind as an attempt to better describe my experience.
An aesthetically crafted creation worthy of mainstream recognition.

Daphne is without hesitation gorgeous! she uses these autumnal delights to convey a amber chypre… a true story of a woman transforming into a tree… from the delicate petals of her skin ro the rough pricks of the needles to the warm depth of the resins… she changes and still entices. she inspires beauty as human and projects beauty as plant based perfume.
    HURRAH!

Containing the most notes of Lord Jester’s compositions, Daphne is a massive perfume. I get the impression of walking on a hot autumn day as golden, red and amber leaves shimmer in the sunlight. You walk into a large, bright Victorian home and exploring the dry, hot attic, you find a bottle in an old chest. Thats just the beginning of this wonderous creation! There is something delicious baking in the oven…
It is not a traditional chypre, as it lack vetiver and patcholi. Daphne demands lace and long dresses! It is so ornate and impossible to pick out an individual note. “What a composition!” is all I say when wearing it. It delves into the past so far that it is beyond time itself. Indeed, this should set the standard for natural perfume and beyond.

This is an amazing fragrance. I have samples of a number of Lord’s Jester’s fragrances and this one (according to my wife who has been trialing them) is the longest lasting and most powerful.
Last night I applied one spray to the back of my hand and was gob-smacked by the luscious richness. Like a spicy fruit cake mix cooking on a stove top with lots of brown sugar, citrus peel and sweet spices. To me it’s a bit boozy and so complex that it is hard to identify individual elements. There is a sweetness that is akin to the sweetness of honey, but honey is not a listed note. The sweeter notes are underpinned by deeper woody and resinous notes which give this near perfect balance.
This is real perfume and so breath-takingly more real, more authentic and more natural than 99.9% of what is available in the perfume world that it is almost necessary to try to find a different paradigm of terms to attempt to describe it.
After 24 hours the single spray I put on the back of my hand is still detectable and I wanted to put another spray onto the back of my hand, but my wife started to show slight distress at the suggestion of me using any more of the precious nectar, that she has now appropriated as her own.
    I don’t usually give a rating but I think I need to start… 10/10. A masterpiece Mr Gottschalk!

Daphne was the daughter of the river god Alpheus, and the innocent victim of the young god of love. Apollo did tease the young Eros (Cupid) that he should leave the bow to the “grown-ups” and Eros shot him with a gold arrow of burning love and Daphne was the first one he saw…but the mischevious cherub shot her with a lead arrow of unrequited love (the cruelest one of all) and when Apollo pursued her, quite enamored of her and was gaining ground, and whispering sweet honeyed words in her ear; she cried out to her river god father to save her. She came to an immediate halt as her toes transformed into roots and as Apollo’s arms embraced her she had bark for skin! She was transformed into a laurel tree, and though Apollo could not love her, he took her leaves to fashion his crown, and to this day laurel leaves signify victory and prestiege…
This EDT begins bright and sweet, like the young nymph herself: citruses, lush cypress and warm ginger and marigolds create a warm, green and juicy-sweet freshness. The heart is resplendent with flowers including imortelle, plumeria and magnolia-flowers that bloom fully have wonderful essences. These hint at the youth and sensual beauty (roses and jasmine) of the girl the god fell in love with, but underneath the airy scent of love is a note lurking that, though bitter, is still beautiful. Her fate is captured in the woody resins, and heavy warm notes of tonka and benzoin, and her sweetness defined still, by the vanilla; and the moss and pine, give it a chypre feel and complete the transformation of flesh to tree very completely. This fragrance reveals the beauty of nature, its sensuality and the capricious nature of love itself; and finishes warm, mossy and sweet-Lovely!
    Sillage: very nice
    Longevity: good
    Overall: 4.5/5
This elixir is intoxicating, complex and very intruiging…I love this story and find Adam captured (as he does so well) the essence of the myth. This is not your typical Chypre floral, it has oriental nuances, bright citruses and some intricate development. Floral enough for women, but warm, smooth and sexy enough for the guys…
Moral: It is better to have loved and tried your hardest, than it is to remain hard-hearted and run from love…be open, try something new!!
