Description

“The little streets of Grasse belonged to them. With their windows flung wide open I could breathe in the aromas of Leather, Rose and Iris. I too wanted to become a perfumer glove maker, I too wanted to reinvent beauty and share my passion for all of these aromas. With my senses awakened, I could travel through time simply by sitting by my window.” – a note from the brand.

A complex composition where floral lightness and the intensity of leathers and woods met. The first notes begin with natural Pink peppercorns and Mugwort. The heart of the composition is more intense with Lily of the valley, natural Iris and Cedar. Finally the powerful scent of the leather, Vanilla Absolute, Tobacco and Musks mark this original creation.

Cuir Iris by L`Atelier des Bois de Grasse is a Leather fragrance for women and men. This is a new fragrance. Cuir Iris was launched in 2016. Top notes are pink pepper, peru balsam and artemisia; middle notes are lily-of-the-valley, iris and cedar; base notes are leather, vanilla, tobacco and musk.

My youthful optimism lets me believe (or rather hope) that price is not always equal to quality – this little gem is proof of that.
I hated the first bottle I bought, dismissing it as a ‘cold’, overly cedar-y mess and then, months later, smelt it on a stranger and went out to buy another two (which is totally affordable – this is a very cheap fragrance).
The bottle is lovely, as is the packaging. It opens with cedar and leather and remains pretty uniform in the dry-down, with perhaps more leather coming out to play. I must admit I don’t get the tobacco, although I wish I did.
I don’t claim to have a great nose, but it blows me away that no one has compared this to Tuscan Leather by Tom Ford. I own both and the only real difference scent-wise (obvs, longevity and sillage are much stronger iro the Tom Ford) is that Cuir Iris lacks a bit of warmth and maybe sweetness? Maybe its the lack of raspberry? Or amber?
Either way, I HATE sugary perfumes and am ecstatic to have found a dry, luxurious-smelling leather scent that I can afford to drown myself in every day (partly to make up for the lack of sillage and partly because who doesn’t love the ‘psst’ of a new spray every so often??).
The whole (criminally underrated) range is worth investigating if you aren’t a price snob and are looking for interesting, different smells.
EDIT: correction – it is identical to La Yuqawam Homme Rasasi (which also has similarities to Tom Ford TL). I have (and love) both, but this is far better value for money.

Great fall fragrance. Bought it in Spain for 14 Euros at Corte I, can’t beat the price. One of those that I need to take out from the shelf every once in a while and smell it again, it is a sort of a mysterious cologne to my brain. Nice addition to my collection.

I bought this without trying it out first (the store had no testers) because the combination of the notes looked interesting and it was so well priced that I wanted to experience it for myself. What a delight. Although this fragrance can certainly be worn by men or women, it makes me feel very feminine. Warm, subtle, intriguing and important. Very suitable for the office, since it doesn’t leave a trail and doesn’t assault the senses. I can see myself wearing this in any season and any time of day.

Thank so much Amanda for sending me a sample of this beauty. I agree that it is definitely unisex. I’m usually wary of scents with leather in but that being said there are handful that have proved lovely and very wearable. This being one of them.
The leather is very evident on the opening with the iris. I then note the musk and sweet vanilla that are underpinned with the warm resinous Peru balsam. The balsam and tobacco become more and more evident along the time line. The pepper enhances the whole.
I agree with Amanda that this is a versatile fragrance. Moderate longevity and sillage on me.

This was a blind buy that I almost regretted buying when I got home as previous online reviews pointed to this being a masculine fragrance but I strongly disagree. cuir Iris is very unique and well blended, reminding me very strongly of Chanel’s Cuir de Russie.
I can’t yet pick out individual notes but so far I would say that it works well in any weather, especially on days where you are wanting casual, understated elegance.
It’s great for the daytime, the office or just chilling at home. I love it’s versatility.
It has moderate projection and 4-5hrs in longevity.
