Description

Olfactory Notes:
saffron dust, rose baie, citus notes, green of violet, patchouli leaves, precious woods, ambery notes, vanilla

A Keiko Mecheri leather.
Cuir Fauve defines the sensory experience in an almost bewildering new territory. Leather is warmth.

The work is subverting the warmth of leather
toward a more cool freshness.

Cuir Fauve is quintessentially early Twentieth century Fauvism and early Twenty-First century Expressionism:
Wild brushstrokes and vivid bold tones.
The artist revolves violet leaves, saffron dust, patchouli, vanilla and woods, one another, merely enough to maintain the illusion that one was smelling the real thing, a sweaty tangled fur of some beast in the run.

The pleasure to wear Cuir Fauve is its extraordinary depth wrapped in its animalic suppleness. Cuir Fauve was launched in 2012.

1.5 hours of longevity wtf really. It retails here 270 usd per 50 ml. All I get is a faint  woody vanilla. Nothing else. Nada.

I usually don’t like Mecheri’s style, due the too-low tone of her composition (for my taste of course), but this is the fourth perfume I test from her line Les Mervilles and I must admit I’m impressed, not only for the power and long-lasting performance of the juyce (compared the usual strenght she uses), but also for its quality and density.
Names are a bit misleading, since “Rose” is not the main Actor of “Bal of Roses”, neither “cuir” in this or “amber” in Amber Mirabilis; rose, amber and cuir are cleary detectable, but flankered by many other notes so well blended that the whole compositions are smooth, so elegant, and full of pleasure.
I want to try them all.

Cuir Fauve is more of a peppery woody sweet, something kind of captivating, something cozy and worm with some patchouli & amber of course. Although i never liked a fragrance from this house but this one here is kind of different than all the softs they made. It reminds me of the family gathering around a table for a family reunion feast, and also reminds me of the times when i drew while listening to the series on TV in Ramadan! DAMN it brought me memories although i never smelled something like it before! maybe it’s the cozyness it brings.
It is quite a captivating essence with quality and unique creation.

    Cuir Fauve
The leather is really lovely and sophisticated. The top notes are fresh with citrus, the leather is so smooth and makes its presence known underneath the citrus. The citrus fades then the leather becomes just a little bit more heavier, but is still so smooth. The dark tobacco note comes through, it is really nice blending with the leather. The oud is rich, the scent becomes a little warmer from the soft melange of amber and spices blending with the tobacco as well. It dries down to a sweet powdery balsamic accord.
I enjoyed getting wafts of the fragrance from my wrist.
    Tested from a dabber.

For me it’s a smoky leather with a bit of oud. It’s nice at times, particularly at the opening, but the smoke smells too much like cigarettes for me to enjoy.

Received my coffret set of the Bespoke line and this one is by far my favorite! It’s a true smokey, sweet leather. Like someone wearing a leather or possibly a suede jacket in a room filled with a good pipe tobacco smoke swirling around and two aromas mix together and you get Cuir Fauve. Very sophisticated and elegant.

Strong and delicious, but I’ve just tried a sample. It’s so expensive that I don’t dare to buy a bottle…I like to have many perfumes and to change depending on my mood, even if I’m always fond of oriental perfumes.
Is it really worth the shot ? Maybe I could find the same kind of fragrance, which would be less expensive ?

Keiko Mecheri CUIR FAUVE may be wild for this house, but it seems pretty tame to me. It reminded me initially a bit of Parfumerie Générale L’OMBRE FAUVE, but I think that I was unduly influenced by the name. And the amber. One big difference is that there is no patchouli in this perfume whatsoever, as far as I can tell, but the tobacco may be playing a similar role.
To my nose, CUIR FAUVE is without a doubt an amber perfume with an oudy edge. Very smooth, however, and likeable. There is a touch of florality to it as well. I believe that both oud and amber enthusiasts will enjoy this creation, as those two notes are quite detectable yet harmoniously married. Those who have been decrying the strange phenomenon of oudless oud perfumes will be relieved to know that there is still hope. Ironically, this oud perfume does not boast of its oud in the name!
Once again (as in Tangeri), I find the leather to be less pronounced in this creation, but, hey: what’s in a name? Aren’t they all metaphors anyway, at the end of the day?
