Description

Cry Baby Perfume Milk, the first fragrance by American singer Melanie Martinez, was born as an idea after her “Cry Baby” album. Announced as sweet and nostalgic, Cry Baby Perfume Milk represents “the spirit of the girl who is playfully innocent, but conceals an irreverent edge.”

The composition opens with a contrast of dark fruits, strawberry milk and a lipstick accord. The baby lotion accord in the heart of the perfume is there to awaken nostalgia. The base smells “feminine and mischievous” with burnt caramel and woods. The perfume was created by Catherine Selig from Takasago Fragrances.

The bottle design, signed by Powershovel Creative, is inspired by vintage baby bottles. Cry Baby Perfume Milk will be available in the amount of 75 ml starting December 2016.

@rosegrande, I wouldn’t call it a lipstick smell like Lipstick On or French Kiss, but the powder doesn’t age the fragrance at all. All it does is emphasize the fruit and make the perfume smell heavy, imo.

Im kind of scared of the powdery note. I like ultra sweet fragrances, and i’m afraid the powdery note is going to “mature” the fragrance. I DO like the smell of lipstick though… does it actually smell like lipstick? Or the average Sephora fragrances? Not that Sephora fragrances are bad, they’re just not my style. Your forced to blind buy this. There is no testing it.

After several wears I feel like I finally can have a say about this perfume outside of just samples/paper tests
The notes listed I’d say are very accurate to the actual scent of this perfume
it’s basically like a strawberry milkshake with a sweet powdery drydown,
i don’t really feel the wood much though but it’s not really what i see as the essence of this perfume anyways.
it lasts all day , so i’d say it has great longevity and the sillage is pretty moderate , I don’t think it would overwhelm anyone unless you sprayed this heavily.
I really enjoy this , I think they did a wonderful job capturing the description they made for it. It certainly is nostalgic ,playful and sweet.

Dang, this is a super accurate take on strawberry milk! I was a little skeptical because I’ve smelled lactonic perfumes before, but the ones I’ve tested you really have to whiff and search for those lactones, and are only sorta milky.
This is MILKY. Top notes/initial spray is straight strawberry milk, that’s it. As it dries down I get a lot more caramel, something tart (but not overwhelming, possibly what most people are perceiving as citrus?), and the lotion-y texture. The intense strawberry diminishes after a time, leaving a subtly fruity, sweet milk scent. I don’t actually get a lot of powder or woody notes from this; it’s very lactonic, sweet, and fruity on my skin.
The lotion dry down keeps this from being completely gourmand. Cry Baby Perfume Milk kind of reminds me of Lush’s American Cream conditioner, not just because of the strawberry milkshake aspect, but also that creamy conditioner/cosmetic texture. This is gorgeous and impressed me a lot, one of the best (if not THE best) celeb fragrances I’ve tried.
EDIT: I get the powder now, it adds weight to the scent itself. The powder accentuates the strawberry and makes it smell full and heavy, but otherwise it’s not very noticeable to my nose.

I finally got this today and it smells nearly note for note the same as the old Ralph Lauren Hot. Most people buying it will be too young to remember. Very warm milky and sweet.

I adore this bottle of pure sweet creamy scented nostalgia….at first you get a hit of the powdery lipstick, baby lotion, and strawberry note. but then it dries down to a caramelly creamy sweet finish. the powdery notes and the strawberry are pleasantly noticeable along with a linger of woodiness. the longevity and silage is perfect considering. and overall this is amazing.

Anyone complaining that people are selling this for more than $60 should know that it costs lots of $$$ to ship internationally. So yeah $80-$130 is kinda reasonable considering Perfume IS expensive in general. If they can’t afford that’s why there is alternatives.
This perfume is too strong for me. It left me with a rash. It smells ok, not really good. And the curse words on the bottle are really NOT needed since her targeted audience is a bunch of cringy 12 year olds.
So I give it 2/10. Don’t waste your money.

Delightful! Always on the hunt for a strawberry perfume, and saw this recommended in a topic. (TY smellagent!) The strawberry milkshake comes through like gangbusters! Opens with a tart fruity aroma, kind of like putting your nose into a tin of SweetTarts. This grew on me, to where I reapplied to smell it. At first, I thought it was ‘chemical-ish’, but when I sniffed closer it was a fantastic acerbic fruit mash-up! Within a minute it transitions to a thick, creamy strawberry milkshake! Just like the ones your mom used to make for you, with homemade ice cream and real strawberries. Gradually, there’s a baby oil, and ‘powdering your nose’ effect. As the drydown progresses, the strawberry wanes, and sandalwood emerges.
The site says “Melanie’s childhood memories are evoked through a soft, nostalgic baby lotion accord”. That, along with the strawberry milk, combine to create a wonderfully innocent and young scent. I think we both must have used some of the same products as kids, b/c it reminded me of things I used in my childhood too, and I adore strawberry milkshakes! Innocent, girly pleasure!

This scent, mixed over Bath and Body works Velvet Sugar body spray and lotion is amazing!!!! I get so many compliments on this perfume. I can smell it for days on my clothes. Very good strength.

This opens with a burst of fruity notes. The thing I like best is it is fruit not fruit mixed with weird cheapo musk. Some say it smells like Velvet Sugar but I don’t get that at all. I have done the side by side on the skin test. After the fruit comes strawberry milkshake. I get such a milky/creamy dry down. I also find myself respraying it throughout the day just to have the same experience all over again. It lasts the day and sillage is moderate.

12/13/17-Let me also add: in addition to the STRAWBERRIES,FRUITY PEBBLES,MILK and SANDALWOOD,I’m actually smelling PIE CRUST RIGHT NOW!!
I’m in love! This is perfect for the holiday season!

Just ordered this and it arrived a couple of days ago. The perfume is actually white(like milk) which I thought was cool. Anyways,THIS SMELLS DELICIOUS!!
It’s like strawberries, creamy milk, sandalwood,(and like someone mentioned below me) fruity pebbles.
its sweet but it’s not overly sweet in a “kiddy” way.
Because it’s in a baby bottle, people may not want to try it In fear that it’s not age appropriate BUT it’s definitely for ALL AGES. I think what makes it wearable for someone who’s “older” are the woody notes in the dry down. There’s still the fruits and milk that linger but the woods make this fragrance not as childlike.
    It’s just a warm,sweet comforting scent.
I hope Melanie and her team can come up with more fragrances and other products to coincide with the album song titles. That would be cool.

Bought this for an ex for Valentines day, think she wore it once before she broke up with me. Dunno why because this fragrance is a certified banger. Was really impressed with not only the smell but also the attention to detail on the bottle and packaging itself. You will know what I mean if you’re able to get your hands on this 😉

Does anyone want to decant me a sample for at least $5? I do not want to spend $50 and if don’t like it! Please, it would be so appreciated. I’m almost willing to blind buy it, but I’m iffy about the powder note.

I love Melanie Martinez. The first time I heard of hear of her was through the song Cough Syrup on The Voice and I was instantly hooked. I have heard almost all her songs and greatly anticipated her album and as well her launch of her first perfume. I couldnt afford the price tag but I was extremely curious about its notes and the small samples were being hawked for more than fifteen bucks which is outrageous. I finally snagged one through a seller along with a coupon and awaited its arrival. To me, it doe not have much similarity with BBW Velvet Sugar, that one is much sweeter thanks to the coffee and cream but there was something about M.M. Milk that made me recollect of a familiar scent. It is sweet, but powdery like the scent of those old cosmestics powder. A myriad of all the notes mixed into become something playfulish, sweet but remains grounded to maturity thanks to the woody accord and the baby lotion. I went through my perfume stash and sniffed for that familiarity and lo and behold, Debbie Gibsons fragrance came into mind. Although D.G. Electric Youth comes off extremely strong upon first blast, it mellows down and both scents are akin like fraternal sister. Not identical but very much similiar. They both exude charm, youthfulness, sweet child like vitality. They are powdery like baby powder, very much fruity like fresh berries upon a bowl but so very classic and unforgettable. If you can’t snagged Mels fragrance, try Debbies. Although, Milk is much fruitier and sweeter like she intended to be for her audience, just give it a moment to mellow out, Debbies is much better silliage and longer lasting.

Alright so this is EXACTLY what this perfume smells like to my nose:
    Top Note- Oranges
    Middle Notes- Fruity Pebbles Cereal
    Bottom Notes- Pumpkin Spice lotion
I was expecting I guess more of a kind of a berries and cream scent with powder. However, the actual scent is very citrus-like and warm. It is a nice scent, just not really what I had anticipated. The scent has okay longevity and projects pretty okay.
Overall a good scent, the listed notes to me though, are kind of misleading.

I really enjoy this scent. I’ve learned, however, it is a scent that needs to be on skin. If sprayed on clothing it is STRONG and not in a good way. On skin it is milky sweet and enjoyable.

I received this perfume like 2 months ago and I have given it so many chances because I love how it smells! Unfortunately, it doesn’t last! I can’t spell after 5 minutes or at the end of the day…. I only smell it when I initially spray it on but after that it is GONE. I don’t know if its only me who can’t smell it but it really bums me out. Honestly, it smells powdery, musk and cinnamony, it almost reminds me of one of the scents by tokyo milk. It’s very unique and spicy

Hi. I am in Australia and my daughter wants this for her birthday. HELP! I can’t find any way to buy it. Nothing on eBay and it seems it cannot post out of US. Has anyone been able to find it outside of the USA?

This smells very much as described in the paragraph above at the top of the page. It definitely fits with Melanie’s theme. Dark fruits, strawberry milk, even plastic baby dolls come to mind. Another thing I noticed is that it is somewhat sticky like milk would be. If that is intended I don’t know. It’s unique and a work of art. I love it.

Talking about nostalgia! This brings me back to my childhood, strawberry milk, my mum’s lipsticks and baby dolls; sweet and adorable.

I got my bottle in the mail yesterday and I have not stopped wearing it ever since!!I LOVE the smell of this!! It’s VERY different and will not smell like anything you have in your perfume collection. You will definitely stand out. I smell strawberries and milk, which is very girly and fruity and I love these type of perfumes. This is a must have for your collection at home.

Ok I may be the outlier here but this does not smell like Baby powder to me at all.
On first spray, I smelled Bath & Body Works moonlight Path and quickly the milk notes start to come up as it dries down.
I get the Fruity Milk for the first hour and then it’s pure spicy Woods.
It is a Woodsy scent for the next 3 hours! The milk notes dissipates in an hour.
It seems to be long lasting if sprayed liberally. I can smell after 5 hours after 4 sprays.
I do love this perfume. It’s got a sweet, innocent, almost naive personality that is deliciously pleasant.
The packaging is fantastic, 5 stars for creativity there!

This fragrance is just incredible. Its unique enough that nothing else in my collection smells anything like it, but it doesn’t smell odd or like it shouldn’t be a perfume.
It smells like berries, baby powder, milk, and sugar all spun together in a smell that is both nostalgic and a bit sinister. It is exactly how I would imagine Melanie Martinez smelling.
Definitely one of my top favorites now.

I received my bottle yesterday, and I must say I love this scent! While I find it sweet, it is definitely not too sweet which is typical of most celebrity fragrances. The strawberry/berry note is apparent in Cry Baby as is the milk and powder notes. I cannot find a similar perfume to compare this to, but it is worth the blind buy in my opinion.

I gotta love this. I had the scent strip out of a magazine and it smells so good and different. It’s a typical celebrity scent but it’s something new. I know a strip isn’t the same as the perfume itself but I also rubbed it over my hand and that’s amazing as well. Hope it also comes out in UK/ Europe.

I was afraid this would smell like either baby powder or Dana’s Love Baby Soft – as in a super powdery floral fragrance. It’s neither but the powder is the theme. I sampled it & was very pleased but I’m afraid that this fragrance didn’t get too much publicity other than that weird TV commercial with Melanie Martinez reprising her music video role. After inhaling & analyzing this scent there’s a few things I can tell you about it.
First of all, this is a typical celeb perfume. The opening is very straightforward berry. It smells of berries & strawberry with the strawberry plus the milk note smelling almost exactly like strawberry milk which we used to drink as kids, or if you’re of Latin extraction, HORCHATA or rice milk, with a light pink strawberry flavor. This is possibly why Ms. Martinez describes it as a “nostalgic” perfume that harkens back to childhood or when you are a baby or roughly from ages 3 to 5. The memory association is with what babies or toddlers drink or inhale: the scent of strawberry milk, Ovaltine, Horchata or berries. This is a sweet berry milky gourmand scent.
I picked up on notes like vanilla & the powder which is not baby powder but more like nondescript white floral powder. It smells mostly of a vanilla flower with powder. The milk note is very accurate but it’s not as cold or sour as milk. It’s a sweet and very wearable milk. Love the design of the bottle – a milk bottle. This is not going to win any awards or get as much attention as other celebrity perfumes. It comes off as indie niche but I love it! Can’t wait to buy the whole thing!
It is powdery but it’s not heavy powder. There are no floral notes to my nose.

Listed Notes: Dark fruity notes, strawberry milk, lipstick accord, baby lotion accord, burnt caramel, and “sinister” woods.
I smelled a sample of this in Alternative Press magazine. It’s a very simple perfume. The fruity notes last for a few minutes then it’s just pwodery and sweet. I don’t get any of the “sinister woods” notes being listed. It’s just a very sweet caramely powdered scent. maybe a little bit of a lotion scent? It’s a bit hard to tell. None the less, it’s non-offensive, so I’d say it’s a safe blind buy as long as you like sweet/powdery scents.
I have to admit I do want it just for the bottle and how great the commercial was for it, but it’s good to know that I’ll like it at least.
