Description

Herve Gambs Paris, company known for their beautiful room fragrance, presented their perfume collection Collection Parfums Couture. at TFWA 2013 in Cannes. The new collection includes five fragrances in metal flacons colored in gold: Jardin Prive, Coup de Grace, Hotel Particulier, Rouge Cardinal and Coeur Couronne.

After 25 of work on artistic flower arrangement and luxurious room scents (fragrances and candles), Herve Gambs has boldly stepped into the world of perfumes made from the highest quality ingredients with French perfumers. Perfumers from Grasse Looking helped looking for special raw materials, following “recipes” of traditional French perfumery in order to create the highest quality compositions. Fragrances come in bottles of 100 ml as pure perfume, intended for men and women.

Saffron was presented in the most sensual way in the fragrance that tickles the imagination and inflames passion with a magic spell of Damascus roses. The composition opens with Damascus rose, white lilac and violet, which enhances floral wealth with spicy charm of saffron and vetiver. Additional heat and creamy shades come from amber and sandalwood in the base.

Good perfume from Herve Gambs, excellent if your like rose. The rose smell is natural and traditional, not the retouched, mixed or bender contemporary rose smell.
It opens with the saffron, followed shortly by that nice and pure rose. On the dry down it has a sharp change when the Vetiver, Amber and Sandalwood comes into play. Then it remains mostly woody with that rose still there to complete roundly the sophisticated and luxurious smell.
I would say that is not the most masculine fragrance and it can be going towards the feminine side, but having said that, if you like rose on your perfumes by all means get this one because is a delight! Great longevity between 8-10 hours and sillage is moderate for the first 2-3 hours and after that is sits closely on the skin.

This one comes out as a huge spicy red damask rose of epic proportions and amazing lush detail. The other ingredients roll out with quite pace. A smooth violet note gives a vintage class to this, then Lilac and saffron grow and grow becoming much more than I expected. Its wonderfully balanced. But what surprised me about this one was that around 1.5hours in, a woody accord breezes through with a beautiful high quality vetiver at the centre, and Coup de Grace loses any stuffiness or ‘grandma connotations’. A refreshing and long lasting state that just oozes a clean refinement and turns this into probably one of the best unisex roses I’ve tried. Highly recommended.

If you like Lyric by Amouage you will also like Coup de Grace. The similarity is strong. Take Lyric and remove the greenish rose and the freshness. Add tones of grandma’s red rose (zero freshness, no “green rose” effect), add some strong lilac and mild saffron and finally add a load of the grandma’s red rose again! This is the Coup de Grace. It also reminds me one of my grandma’s scent, an old rose scent, but I can’t remember the name.
It is a strong rose scent with heavy projection and sillage. I think that it will shine on a woman, it clearly leans toward feminine scents. It’s 9 parts feminine and 1 part masculine IMO.
Dominant notes are big red rose, lilac, saffron, vetiver. Longevity is great, about 10-11 hours as a skin scent. The sillage & projection are heavy for about 2.5 hours then it becomes nice moderate.
I highly recommend it for mature women. A nice rose scent for winter, fall and early spring, day & night.

Coup de Grace shares many things in common with middle east rose blends like Abdul Samad Al Qurashi Perfumes Al Ward Al Taifi but the muskiness is not as sharp and green as in Coup de Grace.
Coup de Grace is indeed a very realistic Rosa centifolia ,intense, amplified, concentrate, juicy, seductive:starts with a green sweet accord like the Aurea of the rose and warms up progressively to develop into a sweet, red and spicy rose.Is like a love potion made of broken hearts.
I get instant compliments every time I wear it because is simply irresistible and smells 100% natural.Absolutely unisex, get it while you can,a must have, sexy, sexy sexy,I am addicted to it,it just blows my mind and makes me happy. Masterpiece

HUGE bust in the face of RED ROSES.
It has that sharp type of saffron that accompanied the red roses with some sandalwood. It is the type of Arabian blend actually specially that sharp roses effect.
Sophisticated and good deal for roses lovers.

Charming and sophisticated, delicate rose,a violet notes in the background, vetiver, sandalwood…. I can hear every note here. It has an atmosphere of bygone days, autumn scent a melancholy little. I am discovering this fantastic line of eau de parfum and I am so thrilled..! The longevity here is enormous (12 + h), the sillage average. Happy to have tried it, nice perfume!
    Sillage: 7.5/10
    Longevity: 10./10
    Scent: 8.5/10
    Overall: 8.5/10

To me, this is one of the best rose ever. It really reminds me of a centifolia flower, sweet and natural. A wonderful composition, very well crafted.

cold hearted purple rose … smells as though there’s something petrol-y synthetic… bit faint , withered rose… saffron way too dominant for me. I’ll skip.

You love rose fragrances and haven’t tested Coup de Grace yet?! You must ASAP! I haven’t tested such a strong and heavy rose for years. On my skin it is a rose solifloral, which gets stronger and stronger as the time passes. At the end of the day it seems I’ve been soaked in a rose oil bath! The rose in this fragrance is interesting – not sweet, rather green and oily. One time it seems like it’s a Bulgarian rose, then I feel it might be a Tea rose as well. Anyway, it’s the Rose from capital R. A bit too strong for me, though 🙂
