This one is very similar to the original YSL Cinema scent, with the addition of something different in the top. Cinema Gold has a cool, almost metallic top note that I didn’t find in the original Cinema. Not sure what that is, but the first 10 to 15 minutes smell different and make Gold seem a little more formal than the original. After 15 minutes, Gold warms up and the two smell virtually identical.
Another difference: Cinema Gold persists a little longer than the original Cinema, which is a great thing. The lovely dry-down is warm and sweet and lasts an entire workday.
Due to the similarities, I think you would only need one of these two scents in your collection, and Gold gets my vote, based on longevity.
Scents like Cinema Gold are not especially original or unique nowadays, but they’re almost universally pleasing to anyone who smells them. Cinema Gold is subtle enough for office, but sweet and warm enough for a romantic evening, too. I know I’m going to find lots of occasions to wear this one for Fall and Winter.
