This stuff is the bomb,a 10 ml bottle of vintage pure perfume.Yes,it has a ‘spoiled’ smell when 1st applied.Be patient, that will burn off, then for the heavenly drydown.Ahhh…

Beware of turned bottles. I have bought 2 off ebay one was a green colored liquid and the other normal yellow orange. Both had turned and could not be worn.

Usually fragrances with a million notes from the early 1900s, I fall in love with. However, this one just smells like a million notes thrown together. I cannot discern any one particular note at all. So sad……
^^^^My nose had to have been fried that night I said these things. I JUST tested it again to make sure I wanted it in a sell box. WOW. The “opening” is this mish-mash of notes, but only after about 5 minutes when the alcohol calms down……..DANG! If you love floral, animalic fragrances that last and last and LAST…….don’t let go of your bottle or go on the hunt for one! Wow…..I almost lost this one. Test, test and test people!

I received a sample vial of the Jovan vintage in a swap and it’s taken me a few days to get around to trying it I very rarely like big bold chypre fragrances. I usually end up scrubbing away as my eyes water and my nose burns. I have to say this is maybe the first powerhouse scent that’s won me over. There is just something about this one. It’s not overwhelming, nauseating or dated. Though this does contain everything but the kitchen sink note-wise,
it all blends beautifully. I thought I hated civet but now I think I need to finally get that bottle of Passion I’ve been so afraid to buy for so long. I am very glad I gave this a try, I will definitely be purchasing a full bottle.

If you are into animalic driven scents..this is a dream come true. My sin? Purring kitten to this beast. Its very animalic on me with the indolic jasmine and inscense-coriander opening. Reminds me of Bal a Versailles. When it warms up and the floral heart makes this beautiful. But ride out the first blast to let the magic happen. The dry down is cinnamon spicy, which theres no notes listed. Its very rich, kitchen sink type of perfume & sexy.

Pow! This fragrance bomb detonated on my skin and it’s an explosion of beautiful scents. I wanted this to remind me of a perfume I have but it didn’t. This is in a class all of it’s own. It’s floral, it’s spicy, it’s woody, it’s animalic musky leather and amber. It has something for everyone. I would even call it unisex. The fragrance has an unusual opening. I smelled mostly flowers from the start: iris, orange blossom, gardenia and freesia. There’s osmanthus as well. The heart notes include more flowers! Carnation, tuberose, jasmine chrysanthemum and rose. So many flowers and yet I couldn’t call it a floral fragrance. It has other notes that temper the flowers. The leather is quite strong which begins to appear in the dry down. Leather-musk always go together. This also has patchouli and incense which of course harmonize very well and ends up smelling like incense. A sufficient amount of oak moss as well. And amber. The base notes save the scent from turning into something super floral like Estee Lauder Beautiful. This could well be the world’s most perfect fragrance. Everything fits, everything smells great. And it smells expensive and more luxurious I paid for it: 30 bucks lol This is a steal. Get this great perfume now for such a great price.

Warning. I got saucy on this review. However, I also repurchaed Cassini because incense and civet .. the jasmine is cool .. adds to three very bold notes. This isn’t a shy one.
Forgive me. I know there is much more going on here than what I shall focus upon. CIVET. Some hate it, I ADORE it. Right now I count 23 bottles that contain civet on my menu. All but four are women. One of the men is, of course, Kouros. Cassini doesn’t stay a Kouros (who needs more than one of that beauty?) .. but she sure does start off like him. The incense smoke aspect really changes this game. Femme by Joop! has jasmine and civet as top two pronounced notes by Fragrant Reviewers .. however, Joop! Femme to me is sweet, not candy, but sweet civet. Cassini is animal civet. This mellows but on me it stays center stage, thankfully. I don’t smell Diva here. On me the Rose comes through strong with Diva. Here the civet is pronounced. Even Passion blends the civet more. This is booty smell & sex beauty. We can be polite ladies, but civet is from where it’s from and appeals to our animal nature. Nothing wrong with that! Quite natural to want to feed the animal. Cassini is a keeper. I like perfume that smells like someone I’d have an affair with in an old, French hotel.

As another reviewer said, Cassini for women was the ultimate chypre; and to me that’s a great thing. I adored this fragrance when it came out, young as I was, and I have always had it on hand. I have noticed it’s no longer the same as it was, which breaks my heart. I’m always hoping to find a vintage bottle that can return the scent I loved so much back to me.
Interestingly, my newer “Body Spray” versions of this, available here and there, seem to have retained more of the original feel of the scent (if not its original power) than the newer EDP versions I own.
Update: I noticed Neiman Marcus was offering an “extrait de parfum” version of this, so I ordered one. It’s a bit better than some of the newer EDP versions I have, and even better when I spray it over a slight spritz of Outremer’s oakmoss scent.

just few sentenses to add to the many-said ones by othes earlier.
i speak about vintage cologne concentrate in a mauve box with pink flower stems, the bottle itself with the same mauve stripes.
this is the longest-to-settle-to-start to enjoy smell i have ever came across so far. it took me about just over hour to start smelling heart and slowly it kept mutating for another hourinto an amaaaaazing fragrance.
yes, it is ‘wow'(in a sence u don t know if u made a disastrous mistake buying it) at the very start, but if u experienced ‘stinker’-tester, u decide on waiting….
so i do agree with the reviewer below-about 2hours untill u smell ‘final’ result. To wear it out u can NOT simply spray and go like with the majority of linea fragrances, with this creation u ‘plan’ to wear it and spray and ‘mutate’with it at home while getting ready. i personally will be using this bottle ONLY for dinner/formal occasions, as i find the perfume so so equisite, that it would be a shame to wear it every day.
it is THE creation, and i am going to hunt another vintage bottle to be stocked up.
oh, and NOTHING i smell to remind Clinique aromatics, this is more in the line of vintage Madame Rochas, Infini Caron… not Elexir at all…

This is for a newer formulation
Cassini opens with an indolic bite and civet growl that quickly moves to become a slightly oakmossy and incense touched white floral. This opening is reminiscent of the opening in classic Tabu as we have here an anamalic floral over a nice spiced base (coriander, peppery carnation) and like in Tabu this opening is pretty intense. The silage is loud and strong and the indolic jasmine is a bit screechy. Now don’t take this to mean I don’t like it. I do, it’s just a bit intense at first.
After the scent fully settles (about two hours in), the heart gets a bit powdery with iris. The civet is still front and center as well, but the florals get a more pronounced and sweeter. There’s iris, gardenia, and tuberose. The jasmine has taken a back seat and its screechiness is gone. The composition is really lovely at this point. It’s the perfect blend of florals, civet and spice. The civet and spice sit more on the skin while the incense touched florals dance around beautifully on the air. It was worth waiting through the somewhat harsh and intense opening. As we delve deeper into the heart the ylang-ylang gives a very pleasant zing to the powder iris and rose. The florals are in full force and sing an incredibly beautiful song. The oakmoss and civet are much softer on the skin now.
The dry down is the sweetest stage, coconut, musk and hints of gardenia touched amber. It’s lovely and creamy.
The scent is very loud in the opening but becomes a skin scent at around five to seven hours and is totally gone by nine to eleven hours. Over all it’s well composed and beautiful. The opening is harsh but it’s worth enduring for what comes later.

high expectations from this fragrance as i wanted something to clearly remind me of the 1990s. I wanted this fragrance so badly. When I got the perfume, excitement was at its peak.
one spray… It changed my whole mood of ecstasy. Smelled nothing like what i expected..no jasmine, no gardenia, no tuberose. The only smell i get is a smoky leather + incense thing. Where is the rose? ylang ylang? amber? nothing was there. It did smell similar to a stale hair oil. The scent was so overpowering and nauseating. I had to wash it off with fabric conditioner with teary eyes. 🙁
However I dont blame the perfume coz i suspect it to be expired or outdated. Surprisingly the code was totally unreadable. So i think it was an outdated one.
My advice: Always go for a sample version first if u cant buy it directly. Else, it would be a fiasco. Keep this in mind. 🙂

This HAS to be a completely different scent than what the bottle and some of these reviews state. I had, and still have a little left, of what wasa gorgeous chipre scent from a long time ago. My bottle is frosted glass with a mauve stripe. NOTHING sharp or screechy, just a beautiful scent in the same vein as (dare I even say this?) Mitsouko or femme Rochas but without any spiciness. It’s just beautiful, even still after all these years! Love love it!

I bought this as a blind buy because people had compared it to Jean Patou’s Joy and I hate it. It just smells like a cheap version of Clinique Aromatics.

    Rich, sumptuous and elegant scent!
Best of best of the ’90’s perfumes.
It’s very long lasting with enormous sillage.
    A classic masterpiece!

I don’t like this when i first spray it. It has a harsh, old perfume smell. HOWEVER…about 15 minutes later, that goes away and the perfume begins to settle down and become something lovely! I wish I could pick out the separate notes but in this one, I can’t. It’s sort of floral, spicy and woody. VERY nice…good blind buy!
I had this on when I went to bed the other night and the scent remains on my blanket. I absolutely LOVE it! I now hold that part of the blanket near my face so I can smell it as I go to sleep.

This has been my signature scent since the moment it came out in 1992 or whenever that was. I smelled a sample in a magazine, said “I have to have that” and never looked back. As soon as the bottle runs out, I get a new one.
Put simply, this is my favorite scent, ever, period.
It is sexy and romantic and dreamy all at the same time.
There is nothing “sporty” about this! It is rich, full, warm, extremely romantic, but not too Oriental and not too flowery.
To me it is just the most sensual, sexy scent ever made.
I always, and I mean always, get compliments on it, especially from women who want to know “What are you WEARING!”
It’s like . . . an incredible warm Cinnabun. Mouthwatering. Delicious. I never ever get sick of it.
I am a tall Leo. Brown hair, brown eyes, a real Fire Sign. I like a mix of classic with bohemian. I’m artistic but also practical. Does that convince you?

I was gifted this when I was just 10 years old. The only thing I remember about this was that it smelled like candy, well, that’s what I used to say back then, but that was in ’90. I would like to smell it again for old times sake.

On me this is a very dry perfume.
Loads of coriander, woods and moss.
On top of that leather and incense.
Masculin but a bit mysteriouse at the same time.
Now it is the coldest time of the year in my country so might be that reason no flowersnotes come trough.

Wonderful perfume, uplifting and does remind me of Joy but psst… I like this better! It blends magically into my skin’s chemistry and wafts around me like a warm soft floral banquet and yet gives one a distinctive aura. A winter wardrobe classic.

I first encountered this perfume in 1990 (with rep samples given at Harrods)…beautiful. I then received a beautiful very expensive box set for Christmas of the same year and have been a lover of this ever since.
There is a seller on E-Bay at the moment – quays_severn who is selling GENUINE VINTAGE Cassini item. This seller is nothing to do with me…just a wonderful find for me because I decided to seek another bottle as my original 50ml EDP is almost empty. This seller doesn’t have spray bottles but 30ml pure perfume in beautiful silk covered boxes.
Recently I did get a modern Cassini…it came all the way from the USA from a reputable stockist recommended on this site. I was less than impressed. It doesn’t smell as it used to.
I don’t know about top notes, base notes and all that…I just know what I love…and Cassini is an elegant powerhouse of a perfume.
I think I now have a lifetimes supply…of the VINTAGE perfume…of the body lotion…of the talc…and of the soap. 🙂
If you are looking to buy genuine vintage Cassini then I recommend quays_severn on E-bay (there is a perfectly valid reason also why this seller has the stock she has to sell).
    Enjoy.

    Amazing.
I have what I believe to be the current version of Cassini, in a purse size spray bottle.
The first time I sampled this was on a warm day, and the weather was not helping one bit! The chemical sharpness never really subsided on me, causing my – usually – unflappable nose great surprise….
But today is another matter entirely. In the cooler air of autumn, Cassini matures much more endearingly! I now notice the balsamic accord – a newly added feature here at Fragrantica – just as I do in many of my favorite fragrances. The opening will still be astringent to the uninitiated, but I’m beginning to enjoy that quality. 🙂 Wait a few minutes, and the whole blend becomes more noticeable, and a rich brew it is! It should come as no surprise that this richness owes much to INCENSE and CIVET.
    Long live Cassini for women!

I am not sure if I have the Oleg Cassini that is mentioned here. Maybe someone will know. The bottle I have is the “Oleg Cassini for Women” by Jovan. It comes in a clear rectangular bottle with a rose colored stripe slightly off center with a matching lid. It smells like the note description given but was there more than one Oleg Cassini for Women perfume made?

Gosh, this brings back some memories today! I used to wear this to work in the 80’s, and I must have choked my boss. I forgot how potent the scent can be when first using it. I have the perfume in an unusual little bottle that lays on its side – no bottom. It is a sort of oval heavy glass with a violet pinky lid. Back then, oh heady me, I could hardly resist this fragrance. It smells really really sweet and sugary. As it dries down, I get a peppery smell, a sweet ambery oakmoss speckled with little powdery flowers that sort of burst in my nose as i press it to my skin. How amazing! then the civet comes out to play and smells jasmine with a hint of rose. I remember paying £50 back then. I had saved and saved so that I could get a bottle in the sale. I still have the same bottle, all these years later. It is good if you don’t mind being slapped about the head a bit with the strength of this stuff. I should go now and make my hair bigger and put on my shoulder pads!!!

I got a bottle of lotion as a hand-me-down gift. It’s strong on me for sure, so i must have the real thing-I can’t say i hate it or love it, just not me.I think i read it came out in the 90’s, smells more like the 80’s to me. Very floral and classic, i cant’t smell anything but floral right now maybe later when and if it dry’s down. This is the perfume you would smell on on older aunt or church lady when you hugged her. Not that they smell at all alike by any means but it has the same feeling to me as chanel no5, 24 fambourgh. All are really nice, special evening out fragrance.Maybe someone will trade with me?

  29. :

This fragrance is dominated by oakmoss and more oakmoss; it is musty and animalic. I tried my best to give it as much time as possible to dry down but I could not endure it any longer and scrubbed it off. Then when the persistent juice wouldn’t scrub off I sprayed my arm with vinegar. That finally got rid of it. I think I’m pretty open minded about scents, but I just could not bear this one. I have some issues with chypres to start with and this one was the ultimate chypre with incense and civet thrown in- whew! Too much for my nose.
I am going to try to track down some vintage Cassini so I can see what everyone else is talking about. The current version is not worth smelling, but the vintage may well be lovely.

I just had a delivery of a 50ml Bottle of Cassini by Oleg Cassinifrom FragranceX which I believe to be a fake…
I have bought from them before, last year with no problems… I now sit here with the last of my partners 50ml Bottle of Cassini by Oleg Cassini, and am comparing that with the new bottle I have bought for her birthday. The original has the classic Cassini smell she has worn for the last 16 years, which is one that lasts for hours, but the new bottle contains a scent that is vastly different, and that fades after about 5 minutes to an unpleasant ‘peppery’ smell.
The box seems the same, but the bottle should have the CASSINI logo across the centre of one side printed onto the glass bottle… the new one doesnt and only has a clear sticker label on the underside, but this is stuck off center on a wonky angle.
I have reported this to FragranceX, only receiving a stern reply that they dont sell Fakes… I have emailed the pictures of the bottle and described the problems with the scent difference compared the the product they supplied last summer.
Does anyone have any thoughts or observations please?

I wore this one in the early/mid 90’s and back then I thought it was such a revelation! It is a bit scarce these days, unfortunately. I love scents with incense! Cassini is very refined, stylish and for ladies who love to be a tad different. I used to have the body powder, shower gel and body lotion as well and used altogether, one knew that the evening was going to be a good one! I received lots of fabulous comments when I used to wear it. I fact, I’m thinking of getting my hands on another bottle!! Update: I still have a massive container of the body powder, body lotion and some of the original EDP! I’d stashed it away!!

I finally got the real deal on my third attempt in a set of lotion and a large EDP. Oh, my, this is gorgeous! I think it shares some base with Black Tie, but this Cassini is a sweet formal occasion version.
Can’t wait for the next special occasion to wear it.
This is seriously potent and long lasting stuff!

I suspect I bought an authentic one but I’m thinking it may have gone “off”- perhaps just too old, exposed to heat or light or oxidized. I wish I had a confirmed good one to compare it to, or a nose of someone who knows how it should smell. It smells like something I could like but a bit too funky. There is an over-ripe cantaloupe note- that’s the best I can describe it. Is that overly ripe fruit note supposed to be there? I say cantaloupe because it really has that slightly sulphurous smell that says cantaloupe! I am still curious but not enough to spend more money hunting down another one to compare. I’ve decided to finally post this because today I just received my purchase of L’Art di Gucci and I’m sad to find I’m having a similar experience, although not as much as with Cassini. Does anyone else smell this “note” in Cassini?

What in the world!?!?! Here I am opening another bottle of EDP from a supposedly very reputable seller….this time it does leave a sheen on the skin and no alcoholic smell, but I can barely smell anything! Then I see these 2 huge red flags: #1. the sticker on the bottom of the 1.7 oz bottle says 4 ml….not good, unless Americans don’t know what they are doing anymore. #2. No Cassini word on the side of the bottle. The bottom line is I really doubt it was made to be smelled by jamming your nose into your wrist. I have one tyny spray of Diva on me, and at least 6 sprays ofCassini all over, and all I can smell is Diva.
I hope I am not losing my mind, but I am giving up on this one. Really, sweatshops in China should spend more time making fake Chanel and Light Blue, they won’t make much money on this one off people like me.
Maybe that’s why so many negative reviews, because althouh week, it does smell pretty crappy. One more seller is on my black list.

This is one of the very first bottles I got and it was a gift. I’d never heard of it but I didn’t care. All perfume gifts are welcome with me 🙂
And I can still remember what I thought straight away after using it: This smells like old-fashioned candy. The kind of candy I used to love as a kid. And that’s not bad at all 🙂

  40. :

    4 out of 5

I would never think in a million years that someone would make counterfeit Cassini ( it’s not like people are lining up for it), but the fakes are out there. Shipping one back today, which was supposed to be a tester. and the seller is jumping out of his pants trying to hush it down. So far can’t write anything constructive because all i got was a blast of alcohol and some nasty residue. As soon as I get my refund will repurchase again from Fragrancenet.
Hate this kind of headache but it happens from time to time.

  41. :

The opening is sweet like sugar laced with honey
dries with a nuances of fruit of peach and freesia
to finish the top layer of this fragrance then turns
a bit deeper with leather a tar like opening but seems to fade due to the presence of Tuberose,
Tuberose is a hit and go with me i love Amarige
that is devoted to the flower but with Cassini it’s
too cloying and drowns out the other notes Cassini
is a typical 80’s Powerhouse elaborate and overbearing but this is’nt my favorite it does
    nothing for me.

I totally agree with Action. This is a masterpiece! It’s sillage and long life are excellent. I want a big bottle but it is a bit expensive. I just really do not understand scents being dated; clothing which is visual, yes, scents, no. Are fresh baked cookies any less fragrant because you first smelled them as a child?
    This is a classic!
Just ordered that big bottle of EDP.

oleg cassini starts out soft and floral, maybe orangeflower and gardenias, which I love, but it it doesn’t stay floral. After a while it smells gummy, sort of like glue. It also did not last very long on me. While the perfume was not good on me, the bottle is very nice to look at.
