This is an interesting scent for sure.
Immediately after putting it on I smell a note of wet, mentholated paper (which I love)!
Boy smells very different and unique at this point.
However, it quickly starts smelling a lot like a stronger version of N18 to my nose for some reason. (Ambrette)??
After a few hours however, it starts smelling like a mix between Cuir de Russie and Bois des Iles, only “softer” somehow.
    Weird…
All in all, a nice “retro” type of scent that is perfectly unisex, office friendly and very versatile.
If only Boy would continue to smell like it did when first spritzed, and packed more of a punch (this is really soft IMO), it would be perfect!

I really love vintage fragrances, old classics and there are lots of classic in my perfume collection. I thought I will love “Boy” at first sniff because I really like when classic and modern form comes together as an olfactive. But I found “Boy” is a bit flat! If I wanted to buy something fougere, I wouldn’t buy “Boy”.

Once this scent settles in the skin its amazing. Forget Bleu De Chanel, this is it. Its super fresh, potent and long lasting. I will buy a bottle

First blast was fine until…the heart notes came on which concerned me a bit, smelling quite feminine on my skin. I thought I even detected a soupcon of No.5 but it finally settled down to a truly gender neutral scent. No regrets in getting this from the boutique. Oh, and longevity, at least on my skin, is not as bad as I would have thought.

The initial blast is cold and herbal, fuzzy; I get aldehydes and lavender. After 15 minutes a touch of freshness appears from the geranium. Some more time in and it begins to change and it’s warmer and softer with a definite floral heart. Some of the flowers, the white musk together with the lavender give me a soapy clean feel. Towards the end goes powdery on me and in this phase it sweetens and there is a creamy blend where I pick up vanilla and tonka. Boy is a soft, never intrusive perfume and the softer it gets, more powdery becomes. Well executed, refined floral-creamy-soapy-clean, subtle, but it lacks a sparkle. I think it’s the first gender neutral Les Exclusifs, but it leans more feminine than others in the line I’ve tried. It feels like a modernized version of a vintage perfume.
    Scent: 7/10
    Longevity: 9/10
    Projection: 5/10

    The scent of versatility.
Boy is fluid, wandering in between modern femininity and distinct suave masculinity. Boy may not represents solid mature confident, but there is definite youth determination. Contemporary scent with a hint of retro tease. Strong but wearable. Edgy yet vulnerable.

Gah! This stuff drives me to distraction! I almost can’t function when I wear it, I’m so busy smelling my wrists. Can’t talk… sniffing. It may knock Coromandel off its pedestal for most fabulous in the Les Exclusifs range.
I don’t get a ton of lavender personally; it’s musky citrus for me, with an intoxicating floral blend. Soooo beautiful. I only have a 5ml sample so far and look forward to expanding my review when I’ve gotten to know Boy better. When we’re on more intimate terms. When I stop drooling long enough to write more.
Ok, I’ve collected my thoughts… For me, it’s a solid unisex fragrance. It cruises effortlessly, right down the middle where the overlap of masculine and feminine lies. I don’t know why it doesn’t lean more feminine, looking at the notes, but there’s a definite “essence of man” in there somewhere. The moss? The lavender is there at the opening now that I’ve tried it again, but it doesn’t hang around on me. Still, it’s in a nice balance, not super lavender heavy. Nothing wrong with lavender, just saying. The musk is on a new level compared to other musks I’ve experienced; quality ingredients, as you’d expect. This is beautiful, elegant, classy.

The lavender takes a lead in the beginning, on a bed of … opaque, oily heliotrope, and warm spices (anise?).
You sensed something sharp, something high pitched, waiting in the next corner. It settles in after a couple of minutes, smells like rusty geranium.
Then the sweetness comes into play: the vanillas, the Tonka beans, you name it. For me, this is closing time.
Oh, of course, don’t forget that soapy aldehyde, lurking somewhere all the time. Sometimes I feel it’s a note haunting in every channel perfume I’ve ever tried.

  9. :

    4 out of 5

Wow, it is so very musky in the drydown!
Citrus and tonka bean appear as a cheerful blast, bringing the associations with my beloved Coromandel, and disappear within a minute. What stays is lavender, wet, juicy, spicy, grinded lavender. And a lot of musks. It is not fresh at all, but quite strong, almost intoxicating.
I can barely detect some geranium and moss. Presence of rose and vanilla is the note-list is rather surprising to me.

Boy carefully balances a classic fougere accord full of aromatic lavender, coumarin, tonka, moss, vanilla with some bright fresh citrus top notes and a musky powdery drydown of heliotrope paired with some high quality musk and sandalwood. CHANEL aimed with BOY to create a contemporary aromatic fougere that transcends gender and is tied to tradition. Which in turn means to create a masculine fragrance that is pretty. A short of Brut with less brute force. Caron discovered this land since the mid-80s and seized it with the godly beauty of Le 3e Homme, the first pretty fougere. I don’t know if the search of beauty is a search of proportion, but Third Man was perfect while Boy is just charming. When a creation is closely related to existent ideas the outcome might vary. There are cases that I have witnessed improvements even with colossal perfumes (Mitsouko compared to Coty’s Chypre). Historically though, if the land you are trying to claim is occupied by a creation so perfect that improvement seems highly improbable you are usually destined to live in its shade. This is what eventually happens with BOY, which is bound to live under Third Man’s star forever.

Okay! I’m in love now! But not because of Boy purely, but because of how it layers on top of Luten’s Jeaux de Peau. Creamy wheat & lavender seem to combine to make quite possibly one of the classiest things I’ve ever smelt in my life. Geranium, lavender, herbs and wheat/vanilla and clove. Genuinely the only way I could have enjoyed Boy, properly. I get the love it recieves, but I sadly don’t feel the same.
Two sprays JdP, wait 3-4 hours, 1 spray of Boy. Heaven.

This review will not be detailed but a very quick first impression sniff.
I tested the new edp exclusives line so havent tried the previous version.
It smelt very plain and light. Kind of reminded me of the simplicity of No 5 L’eau but not as citrussy, I actually like it, but excitedly was drawn towards No 22 edp so couldn’t give Boy a chance. It is a fragrance that appeared to be neutral and unisex. Not sweet and not too masculine. Would make a great office scent if something non offensive is required.

This smells like a better quality Pinaud Clubman or Brut aftershave. It is powdery. It is slightly interesting because the opening seems to be the most powdery and opaque, becoming more fresh/light/transparent as it gets to the mid, where a nice geranium note comes out.. This one is very boring though and I can only bare the monotony of wearing this one if I layer with a bit of TF azure lime/molecule 01. I usually am against layering but if I own a scent that I literally won’t wear for whatever reason, I will see if there’s anything that might make it more appealing to me that I could use with it. It smells very “nice” like a very goody goody Boy Scout scent

This is my first time getting my nose on the Les Exclusifs line, I put it off for years, WHAT A MISTAKE. I was totally blown away by these gems. Boy got my attention due to the sharp, green citrus opening, kinda like some of the standard men’s line but midway it took a turn down a floral, creamy road, this is the turn I would have loved in one of the standard men’s line frags. I’m so glad to finally find a fragrance that has a deliciously juicy citrus opening and a creamy, soft floral dry down that suits my taste, Chanel, you have a new fan. I pulled the trigger on a 200 ml bottle after a couple of days of testing. ♡♡♡

    Oh Boy .
    this perfume got reformulated .
I went today to chanel boutique , cuz 5 days ago I couldn’t believe it .
it’s official now , they removed the sandal and reduced the heliotrope .
you see the main note in the base is the white balmy sandal + heliotrope .
with a soapy feel to it .
    that’s why I loved it .
    now remove the sandal .
all Blahhhhh to me , smells very close to platinum egoiste .
    don’t tell me it’s IFRA again .
    i’m not convinced .
every year the price goes up the quality goes down .

It would be perfect without that strong sandalwood mixed with sharp lemon that’s disgusting me.

I don’t entirely see why this had to be a thing. You’ve got Platinum Egoiste… and you’ve got Boy.
Doesn’t last at all. Just really, really boring

I never imagined I’d ever smell a Chanel so “meh”, especially with a name like this..
Boy has a very distinct cologne quality to it. The lavender is strong, so are the roots, the bitter flowers. Sandalwood is it’s usual creamy self, and frankly, musc is the only surprise in the composition, though barely noticeable. It rounds the sharp corners, ads a “modern” feel to the composition.
Well rounded and well composed, it does not have the “mmm” factor for me at least. A good quality every day cologne, that has a very strong Chanel DNA.

    Love this scent.
If you are into soapy, warm powdery, skin smelling scents you must fry this.
The opening is off-putting, a blast of lavender and citrus but it settles straight away.
Lavender is not the strongest note for me, i smell mostly sandalwood, grapefruit, musk and geranium.
And the more i have gotten to know the scent the more it reminds me of coco noir.
Its like a soapier, cleaner, unisex, coco noir.
Really simplistic, comforting and effortlessly classy.

Boy is not just for boys though.
This to me is so unisex. I wish they would just come out and say it’s unisex when a fragrance is marketed for one gender and it smells UNISEX and clearly meant for both sexes to wear. Boy is very reminiscent of Guerlain Jicky the first modern fragrance and success for Guerlain which was indeed a unisex fragrance. Like Jicky this is a classic fougere with a top note of lavender a lemon and a base note of sandalwood and musk. In between you get florals and vanilla. So yes it’s very easy for a woman to wear, soft and yet strong, spiced up, citrusy, floral, vanilla, creamy, rich and decadent with a soapy clean air. This is no different from other ‘men’s colognes that can be worn by females such as Joop! Pour Homme Coty stetson Dana Canoe, those barbershop powdery vanilla based scents.
Chanel has more fragrances for women than men so I’m glad to see that they are branching out and making men’s colognes other than Chanel Pour Monsieur (the original classic now reformulated) and Egoiste. They should continue to make frags for men and give Dior some competition because Dior has done very well for themselves creating men’s fragrances (i.e. Dior Homme and Fahrenheit). I think guys that wear this smell very clean, innocent, fresh and soapy. It’s the type of cologne that doesn’t smell like cologne but a form of bath soap. Very easy on the nose. It’s a scent that matches with a clean white dress shirt long sleeves buttons, or a suit. It’s inoffensive and discreet, office-friendly and not a typical overt masculine scent. It can be worn by a young man though not a boy, more of a mature 17, 18, 19 year old or guys in their early to mid 20s. One could argue that this is the male equivalent of Chanel Coco Mademoiselle with a grapefruit and lemon in place of the bergamot sweet citrus top notes and mimosa of the Mademoiselle. Even as such there is orange blossom so it’s not too far from smelling like a tweaked version of Mademoiselle. Love the grapefruit which to me has always indeed smelled like a unisex fruit.
I like to wear this fragrance myself because of it’s irresistible aroma. I love the lavender because I adore lavender floral scents and it comes off as spicy-floral citrusy and soapy and it matches up with the subsequent heliotrope and vanilla scent. It blends with sandalwood and a bit of greenery courtesy of the moss, some musk, and in between those lovely florals. The flowers that are in the heart of this perfume include rose, geranium and orange blossom. It’s quite floral for a man’s cologne. If you’re a guy or girl that likes these particular flowers but are especially fond of lavender fragrances, and fougeres this is a delight! Recommended for day time wear, casual, semi-formal affairs, business formal, for lunch meetings and for working in the office. It’s aromatic but soft and yet projects. One to two spritzes is enough.
    A real winner.
    Thank you Chanel.

I see a lot of review saying that this “hello grandma” type of a fragrance.
Yes, it is a little retro, classy, sophisticated but in no way is it outdated or just for certain older age people.
I swear by the whole Chanel Les Exclusifs line, in EDT formulation or the new EDPs. They are those fragrances that when you wear them it’s like people around you go insane saying that there is some sort of enchanting aura around you and when you pass them they want to follow that trail.
And yes, what I would definitely agree here is that Boy is versatile. Definitely any age, any season, any occasion. Signature Chanel soft powderness combined with freshness and sparkliness.
Perfect composition of citruses, florals and some woods with vanilla.
What notes I can detect upon testing: Definitely grapefruit, lemon, lavender (on the background), geranium, soft wood with a touch of sweetness.
    I’m getting 200 ml bottle.

got myself a 200mls. from the bottle, the lavender opening is more profound but lasted for probably 5 mins, before transforming into a very nice floral accord, i guess from geranium and heliotrope combined (because its not a very ‘masculine’ floral like geranium in platinum egoiste), then i sense the woods, moss and vanilla. musk is very much present by the end, together with the geranium. its a pleasant and warm fragrance, office-friendly but also quite interesting cuz it keeps on changing on my skin. i might have found my new signature

wearing a sample, a cute 4 mls bottle i got after purchasing a bottle of eau de cologne.
beautiful, warm but fresh at the same time,, reminds me a bit of coromandel.
theres something about this line that are intriguing, they are discreet yet very much present. they are like ur second skin and can reflect the type of a person u are or a mood that ur in at the moment, provided ur wearing the right perfume. controversial as it is, its still a very wearable perfume that fits every occasion, casual or formal. also a very safe work fragrance in my opinion.
    i might get a bottle soon. 10/10

    Hello ,
last night I went to ” Grand mall ” where I live , I went there to buy a new perfume after 2013 dec , reformulation ” you know the one that destroyed the sillage and longevity and made all perfumes sheer watered down ”
this formulation killed the perfume pyramid no top no heart no base , just one note at max you get only citrus as the top note .
I tried all chanel exclusive line and dior , what caught my attention is dior Granville and chanel boy .
I gave up after 2013 dec , I just want a simple casual perfume “””” no lux no big masterpiece perfumes “”” , just a nice after shower cologne
boy smells like vintage chanel egoiste platinum before 94 just remove the base ( Cedar wood , oakmoss , )and ad the heliotrope and vanilla with soapy quality same as chanel no 5 .
It didn’t love it at first , went home ,then I put the paper on my desk , the smell was warm very warm what is this ?????? omg it’s boy .
my advice to you : boy is a casual perfume , it works well in summer .
actually boy remind me of a summery ” Breezy ” weather in Cote d’azur , cannes , nice , grasse .
give it time , the dry down soapy warm aromatic havean .
I agree with ” Frample ” nothing new here , I’ve smelled lots of perfumes similar to boy by chanel .

@scentmad: there’s never been an EDT version. Boy came out before the switch, but already as an EDP.

  27. :

Today is the first time I have worn Boy. I have the EDP version – I never got to sample the EDT version so what I don’t know won’t hurt me.
For me, this is a beautifully balanced aromatic, spicy fragrance that feels new but familiar.
I popped this on this morning and on application it felt like nothing special, a little chilly but really pretty. It’s now warmed on my skin and it’s developed into a gorgeous clean, green/lavender/geranium/peppery/musky fragrance that’s sitting around me like a cloud.
It’s worth exercising a little patience for the payoff of a really delightful perfume. Letting this warm up decoded the opening beautifully.
I would say, as this is an EDP I was expecting it to be slightly more forceful in its delivery but that said, I am glad I have it and I can see me wearing this a lot.

I really want to love this perfume. I try the perfume yesterday but I don’t like it. After the dried down I only get the lavender and leather. The other notes only appears after the spray on your skin. Too disappointing for me, considering the price tag and what i paid for. Plus, i believe there is some other perfume smell like Boy out there. Not so exclusif afterall.

I quite like this. I don’t love it with passionate, wild, must hoard bottles love, but I really like it. I think this is perfect for spring-summer, holds up to heat well, and very classy, cheerful, bright yet subdued. I’m a lavender lover (I don’t think there are really very many of us), and this is a mellow lavender, not crunchy, herbacious, medicinal. I love lavender in ANY form, but this is soft, very approachable.
As others have noted, it’s a bit of shape-shifter, and after a very brief top-note exhibit of lavender-geranium (and clean French milled soapiness) this one pulled toward the citrus side–and maintained it for hours (unusual for citrus I think). The rose, the vanilla, the heliotrope are very well blended so that not one stands out but all are present in a well-choreographed dance; no one is upstaging until the dry down when the heliotrope and musks merge into a powder and send the other flowers off stage.
What I do not get is the coumarin or sandalwood; it’s so sanitized and soft that it’s not present.
Overall this somehow manages to do many things well enough: citrus fresh, breezy-clean, brisk and uplifting, as well as soft powder, soothing dry-down, almost sensual-sexy–but not quite. I almost hate to write these words since they are so often a kiss of death for me and others but this IS office friendly; however, for me wearing this to the office would put me in a cheerful mood, ready to face the day, braced with a little citrus without fumigating people.
The longevity when sprayed with a lavish hand is pretty good. The silage is low to moderate. As others have noted, when dosed heavily with the juice, there is a point of diminishing returns; it just will not increase in silage or scent trail. Longevity increases, as does one’s enjoyment, but that’s it.
While this is billed as unisex, and supposedly leans toward the male consumer (one whose “girl” will pilfer his bottle), I think it tilts feminine. A guy could certainly pull this off, and some women might find it “too clean” to be masculine, but the powder qualities skew feminine for me.

This is …..nice. Boy is an appropriate name for this because it’s cute and naive to its own beauty and also because it is too nice and polite for proper seduction BUT….only as long as the Lavender is there is this an exceptional fragrance. About an hour or so on me. The Lavender here is wonderful. Almost anise-like in its herbalness. After the lavender is gone the fragrance is much less interesting with just a simple musk, sandalwood and heliotrope but I found myself reapplying every 3 hours to experience that lavender again. All in all taking price into consideration along with the nose dive this takes I consider this a 6.75 / 10.

Scent – geranium musk, lavender, vanilla & subtle sandalwood.
Season/Time of Day – I prefer to use this one in the warmer months, during the day.
    Projection – I did get noticed, I didn’t get a compliment.
    Longevity – I get 8hrs consistently.

Starts with a Jicky-strength lavender, but sadly dries down into an inoffensive Lynx Africa-style scent. I’ve had better headaches than this sensory experience. A solid 2/10.

  34. :

    5 out of 5

Nothing “exclusif” about this perfume except for the price. The first half an hour is pleasant and interesting, but far from original. After that I have to rub my nose to the wrist to get anything, and I put 2 good sprays. I would certainly not pay the amount of money Chanel is asking just to hardly detect a faded lavender soap smell.

  35. :

Boy smeels like a mixture of many things … done before… but the result is something very wearable, agreiable, a bit nostalgic, a bit modern/clean, ultra suave and as many Chanel very classy. If Dior has Bois d’Argent, boy could be easely called Bois d’Or, it has the same stylish undertone of d’Argent but Boy shines beautifully any time of the day or night, and I expect any season, too on the moderate side, relaxed atmosphere, discret gatherings etc … But yes, Boy goes on the other direction from the ouds&sweet&heavy duty scents so many people love … so, you, beware …

Well, my friend Trisha introduced me to this “Boy” and I am crushing over him bad!!! I must admit, he reminds me a little of my husband’s long forgotten Canoe, lavender and powder…..did He just come from the barbershop??? He smells so crisp and green….hey wait a minute!!! Barbershop my ass! This “Boy” has been in the company of another woman! I can smell her perfume, some sort of floral ,sweet almond and sandalwood. A classy ,elegant woman to be sure. I am jealous, they are the perfect pair, their scents blending beautifully and I am dying to know her too. Intrigue gets the best of me, and I follow my “Boy” across town just to glimpse the other woman….but alas, I lost him after a couple of hours…..where did he go????Oh where did my “Boy” go???? Please come back, I can’t get enough of you!! I love you Chanel Boy ☺

  37. :

    5 out of 5

The initial blast of Boy is slightly masculine, with the lavender and citrus quite noticeable. When it dries down after a couple minutes, it’s actually quite feminine because the vanilla kicks in. I’m not sure why, but this scent reminds me of the beach, which makes it summery to me. It reminds me a bit of Guerlain’s Jicky, and just a tiny bit of Chanel Jersey, which is the superior scent. Boy is a really great scent, but on me it vanishes almost immediately. I tried several sprays on my skin, and then I tried it on clothing to see if it would hold better. No luck. Even if I put my nose directly to my wrist, it’s gone. I have the old formula, so I’m wondering if the new EDP will have better longevity. If not, it’s absolutely not worth the $185. Glad I sampled it, but I need a scent that lasts a full work day. If you’re looking for a nice lavender that’s still feminine and sticks around a little better, go Jersey.

Smells overall green and lemony, nice harmony with the florals,I think it can pass as unisex a lot below say nay but it can easily be feminine I think. A touch of musk but that’s all that is really masculine. That said it’s not unique enough for me to be a buy. Lasts pretty well good few hours.

Sample. Boy EdP. A lovely calm, fresh scent. I do have problems with citrus – they turn male’ish on my skin. It starts with Lavendel and citrus – in a male style on me. But its nice, calm, fresh, and I like it alot. But to me this is more of a male-scent then unisex, I guess its because my skin chemsitry. A perfect gift for a he-she or to a man that loves class.
Provtest.

Boy is a stunning composition that walks the fine line of being neither too masculine nor too feminine. It has a decidedly “barbershop” vibe that’s both intriguing and inviting. It’s also become my signature scent, and it’s one that I enjoy more than Aventus.
The composition begins with an explosion of the softest, most opulent lavender I’ve yet to encounter, along with bright beautiful citrus notes. After about 30 minutes, its lush, beautiful heart of rose and geranium begin to emerge, mixed with soft, creamy sandalwood, and a stunning, undeniably sexy musk.
My favorite moments begin as the base begins to expose itself, with soft Vanilla entering the mix followed by Heliotrope and Oakmoss. It begins to sweeten a bit without becoming gourmond. It disappears for moments at a time and reemerges as something that’s either slightly masculine, or slightly feminine without being too much of either.
To me, Boy invokes the simple joy of receiving a great haircut and a close shave from a skilled barber. It’s also walking along the Greenway with my fiancé on a cool spring morning, or dressing up for a night out on the town. It’s multi-faceted and is suitable for wear during any occasion.
I should have purchased a bigger bottle.

BOY starts with a classic uplifting aromatic “barbershop” scent. But it doesn’t smell like a traditionally masculine scent at all. As Chanel advertises boy is a scent for a woman with traces of a mans cologne , like a woman waking up after a night in his shirt or his bed.
There is a soft velvety accord from the musk and raw materials chanel uses, the “sexy skin scent” .
The lavender smells clean and beautiful but not too soapy nor too harsh.
The heliotrope smells like sweet powdery almond, and then there is vanilla, and both of these help to balance the masculine notes very well. Just beautifully done in my opinion. I find it soothing and sensual and very natural if you will.
Another thing I love about Boy is that it’s quite lemony in its beginning and so refreshing as well as soothing it does have a great masculine character in its beginning and then soon shows this sensuous soft vanilla almond face that is much more feminine than expected in the biginning. It is in fact just what Polge wanted to achieve and he has done so well.
There is something about BOY, likely the lavender and vanilla, that reminds me of Guerlain Jicky. Not with regards to the scent itself, but more so in the warm sexy Lavender perfume category. Another one of my favourite perfumes in that category is Jersey, which is a more soft and fluffy lavender vanilla musk scent . Again very different but both play on lavender musk as their main accords.
BOY is a soft, powdery clean but warm smelling perfume and I just love it , it went strait to my top shelf.
I do wish it would last longer. It turns into a skinscent after an hour and wears very close to the skin. However it’s beautiful and the coumarin / benzoin enhance the vanilla combined with the heliotrope as a faboukes skin scent that stays very long when smelled up close. I don’t mind to respray through the day. It’s nice this way to get the lavender side of Boy a few times through the day !
BOY is the only one of the les exclusives that comes in the EDP version but all the other les exclusives will be changed to the EDP version come October 2016.

one of the least unisex of this line, more feminine…disappointed by low duration and poor sillage. It has an Habit Rouge vibe with no leather resemblance, maybe more powdery….surprised by the sub standard performance to be a Perfume!

Boy is beautiful! It’s so far from my usual perfume tastes which tend to be incense, pine and spice notes. It’s like a big snuggly blanket and a stylish silk dress on a summers day at the same time. Both comforting and cultured. Its familiar and yet like nothing else. The notes are expertly handled where nothing dominates. I don’t find it at all masculine, in fact to my nose, it’s decidedly feminine. It’s timeless, unpretentious and very, very special. Thank you Chanel.

I sampled it in Chanel store as it is sold exclusively there. As others said, it is a unisex scent. Lavender, heliotrope and musk dry down. I can’t say I smell all the florals listed and I don’t find it very floral at all. There is definitely some greenery in there but I can’t quite identify it. In some way, mid notes reminded me of Eau de Savage?
I couldn’t shake the feeling that I smelled similar stuff before. Its pleasant enough scent, make no mistake but I don’t find it very unique or anything.
btw, the name is irritating. Why call perfume “Boy”? There is got to be more enticing and creative name than this.

“Boy”, the new Chanel exclusif is a modernized fougere that’s very likable, but not sure it’s “exclusive” enough.
Playing on unisex codes, Chanel advertises Boy as a woman’s fragrance that has masculine undertones, but so do most Chanel fragrances in my opinion; No19, Coco, even chance eau fraiche are all androgynous. Boy is straightforward powdery vanilla, lavender, rosy geranium, with a nice freshness and a rounded barbershop musky note. It would have made a wonderful new masculine mainstream fragrance for Chanel! The opening is sparkly, playful and warms up quite a bit as it settles. The lavender and geranium give a cuddly fougere aromatic accord.
But i can see how Chanel enthusiasts might be disappointed, “Boy” Capel was the ultimate love of Coco Chanel’s life, and he was a timeless, chic yet passionate and driven individual, and the fragrance doesnt really capture any of that. It’s not timeless, has no dark side and feels rather cute and juvenile. There’s no denying it smells really good but it falls rather short as an homage to Boy.

This fragrance to me is a total marketing disaster. So disappointing and old-fashioned.. I expected much more from Chanel of today. Right from the start there is a big problem with the name. It’s misleading and the whole product seems like a short-cut, a type of easy recycling of old ideas without the “fresh twist”. Anyways, it put me in a bad mood because I expected something fresh and current yet with the class of Chanel that we know. Maybe it could be appealing to a woman in her 50s or 60s, but definitely not for a young girl I would say.

This is reminding me of guerlain’s “insolence”. They’re both quite powdery and they have one to two notes in common, I suppose. This is more wearable than the guerlain though, it’s quite so
