Description

Born Lovely came out in July 2018 as a new interpretation of the original Lovely fragrance from 2005 from the actress Sarah Jessica Parker. Born Lovely is a “celebration of inner beauty (that) begins with lush florals, sparkling fruits and clean woods”

The fragrance belongs to floriental-woody group, described as a lively, radiant, fresh and charming scent of pastel freesia mixed with a sparkling black currant and an unexpected twist of spicy cedar wood.

Top notes: mandarin, peony, cassis
Heart: freesia, honeysuckle, orange blossom
Base: patchouli, cedar, caramel

The bottle retains the same design codes of the original, but in reverse, with a grosgrain bow. Sarah Jessica Parker Born Lovely is available as a 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

This is a beautiful, comforting fragrance.
I see that Born Lovely was released in July and that most of the previous reviews were from the summer, whereas I just tested it the other night in October. The air is drier now, and it’s quite chilly at night.
I got almost pure musk from this scent. At first, it was reminiscent of Johnson & Johnson baby oil, and then some sweetness came out, but I couldn’t identify any particular flower — just a little sugar. And this is the kind of musk that I love, similar to Kat Burki Trellis.
While I can’t pinpoint any other specific fragrance that this reminds me of, I would classify it along the lines of Demeter New Baby, Demeter Kitten Fur, L’Artisan Parfumeur Skin on Skin, CLEAN Skin, etc., but I liked Born Lovely better than them all.
It very quickly became a skin scent, where I had to sniff my wrist to detect anything. The woodiness came out later, and I did get occasional wafts of that. I also suspected amber as a note, because for me, the comfort factor usually involves amber.
I think the name Born Lovely is perfect: this fragrance conveys innocence, gentleness, sweetness, and comfort.

I’m not picking up any of the notes listed, all I smell is Elizabeth Arden Green Tea. Very different from the original Lovely and not at all what I had expected. Soft, fresh, clean and green with no patchouli whatsoever. Returned.

Born Lovely came from my “want” list to “dislike” unfortunately after testing it at my local Kohl’s.
I am very fond of Lovely but Born Lovely by far is out of that love rank for me. It is exactly a straight up patchouli and woody fragrance, and THAT’S IT, no more, no less.!!! NO floral, nor other notes detected on my skin 🙁 It does not smell so bad for being just a green woody scent, but it is TOO primitive/simple comparing to the original Lovely. Sillage and longevity are also very weak.
I would not pay the full price for this one, and probably will skip this version.

This is indeed “lovely”. Starts off at first blast as a very familiar scent, but dang if I can put my finger on which one..I want to say maybe one of the Poison flankers perhaps..??? But then this quickly dries down after about 15-20 minutes into a fresher scent, almost like a Clinique Happy flanker. And as this dries even further down, this reminds me of a Narciso Rodriguez frag (which, coincidentally, the original SJP Lovely is often compared to). Not dupes of any of those fragrances, but just sort of “reminds me of”..
Note-wise, and as for the accords, to me this is mainly a fresh, citrusy, slightly woody with a touch of subtle warm spice scent..and call me crazy, but as this dries even further down, I pick up a wee hint of musk. Not patchouli, but more of a musky scent to me. I don’t pick up any sweetness here.
There is a freshness but also a soft warmth, and for me, there is a slight musk. Great for daytime bc of the freshness, but I feel like the warmth that I get from this could also be carried over into a nighttime scent. Sillage is soft, but despite being a softer sillage, this is quite excellent on longevity for me…..I can still smell this on my arm 12 hours after applying…..Impressive!!
Heavier (or lighter??) spritzes might perform differently and of course on different skin chemistries. For a celeb scent (that sometimes get bad raps), this is very nicely done….Too bad that it looks like this one seems to be flying under the radar, as this is actually quite nice.
However, I would say if you have the “original” SJP Lovely or the pink bottle Narciso Rodriguez “For Her Eau de Parfum” (so many flankers!!), you probably don’t need this…..Unless of course, this might smell differently to you/on you. Have a nice day!! 🙂

I just received this fragrance today! I want to preface this review by saying that I am a male that has no aflliction’s towards placing a gender on a scent – I wear what smells good to my nose. Sarah Jessica’s original Lovely is one of my all-time favorites, so to say I was excited for a new flanker would be a massive understatement. Born Lovely has little in common with the Lovely family – if anything, it smells more like a Stash Unspoken member. It opens with a burst of freshened florals and stays that way for about twenty minutes. To my nose, I smell the honeysuckle the most. When the base starts to poke through, the cedarwood gives it an ever-so-slight spicy smell while retaining the florals. It lingers on my skin for a while, and I did catch whiffs here and there. I’m glad I bought it, but I don’t think I’ll be reaching for it regularly. I want to see how it smells when the weather cools, though. I hate to say this, but this fragrance leans all the way to the “feminine” side. Sarah Jessica said on Instagram that the target demographic for Born Lovely is teens and up, so there’s that. Lastly, I wanted to say that this fragrance smells familiar. I can’t quite picture the bottle, but it’s conjuring up some memories of detecting something like this on a teacher, or something.

Born Lovely is a nice soft, long lasting scent. I like this perfume a lot. Very femme. The lightly spiced cedar wood note
is a really nice touch to very feminine flowers in this scent.
    Another, good fragrance from SJP.

Can not wait to try that! Mum never had a Sarah Jessica Parker fragrance and she’s excited because she loves the smell of caramel and honeysuckle!

I could not wait to write about this one. I went online today to order it from her website and the largest bottle was sold out so I went for the 1.7 ounce. If this has any characteristic of my all-time favorite celebrity scent, Lovely, I am in. In my opinion, as much as I love the original, this will also be a hit. Today, ironically, I received Lovely Sheer in the mail. To my nose, Lovely Sheer was IDENTICAL to Lovely. Hopefully there will be some small difference in this one, without compromising it’s integrity.
